Media vote: Georgia will win SEC East

HOOVER, Ala. — Georgia will win the SEC East and lose to LSU in the SEC Championship game again this season.

That’s according to the annual preseason media poll, announced Thursday at SEC Media Days.

Georgia received 132 votes to win the East, followed by 72 votes for South Carolina and 12 for Florida.

LSU drew 139 votes to win the West, followed by 72 for defending national champion Alabama and six for Arkansas.

If the media is correct in both divisions, that would set up a rematch of last year’s SEC title game. And the outcome would be the same, too, according to the preseson media poll.

LSU received 129 votes to win the SEC championship, followed by 65 votes for Alabama and 14 for Georgia. Five other teams got six votes or fewer to win the conference title, including one unfathomable vote for Mississippi.

“I hope the media is right [on its SEC East pick],” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “I was looking at the record of picking the eventual champion, and it wasn’t real good. Maybe you guys are a lot better at picking divisional champions anyway. But it would be nice to get back to Atlanta … and hopefully play a little bit better this time around.”

The annual media poll has attempted to predict the SEC order of finish since 1992. But it has correctly predicted the eventual SEC champion only four times in those 20 years, most recently in 2008 (Florida).

LOL! IN WHAT WORLD IS UGA WINNING THIS YEAR?

Let’s get past Missouri and South Carolina first, and finally have a back to back beating of UF then we can talk about winning SEC East.

@Trueblueeagle

That’s around about where they could land at worse we have another 7-5 year at best maybe 10-2 I just can’t see us getting by South Carolina or Mizzou(underrated).

We got the defense to win every game included SECCG, but we don’t have an offense that amounts to much of anything at all. Even our BEST QB in Murray just can’t get it done if Stafford were here with some of the stuff Aaron got around him man we’d have probably going on 3 championships.

So the media, with all their wisdom, voted exactly according to the order of finish last year.

Tough job.

Hope so, but of course we all know that preseason predictions don’t mean bibbidy-squat. We have a good team, and a favorable schedule. I do hope Coach Richt gets the team ready to play hard right from the very opening kickoff, and we don’t take a full half to get going like we do sometimes. We need to be prepared to play tough from the very beginning, and keep it up a full four quarters. If we can manage to do that, we’ll be OK.

Shoulda been 2007 National Champs till Les whined his way to the game “You should have to win the SEC championship to be in the BCS title game.” Nick Saban supported that at the time too. I bet Les still feels that way, lol!

The last thing we needed…I know that the media at this thing hasn’t exactly shown that they can predict the overall winner but I don’t know about the Divisions. Guess well just have to go out and do it. We’ve beat em before and we can beat em again.

The poll is correct in that LSU will win SEC again and most likely spank UGA in title game (again) due to their DIII strength of schedule.

If the Dawgs don’t win the East, there should be no questions about Richt’s future in Athens. None. It has never set up this well in my 37 years, and probably never will again. Ray Goff couldn’t screw this up, Richt sure as hell better not.

Before we jerk our shoulders out of joint patting ourselves on the back, remember we still have CMR and Bobo in charge of the offense and to be “generous” we have not been that well prepared or able to make mid game adjustments in the past. Love the Dawgs and always will regardless but lets play the season one game at a time, win a couple to start, build some momentum and THEN start thinking about bigger and better things. The talent is there (O.Line?) but they still have to be prepared and coached through the games and season.

Will UGA be able to handle the pressure? First time since 2004 that the media has predicted UGA to win the east.

If Richt can’t shake the recent conception (reality) that his teams can’t handle pressure and actually win the east….then he’ll be without a job come the 2nd week in Dec. The new contract makes a separation easy.

Georgia will probably go 9-3 and might win the East depending on if and how South Carolina and Florida stumble along the way. They’ll lose two against the better part of their SEC schedule (Missouri, Carolina, Florida, and Auburn) and then drop one of the last two against Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech. No way they win the SEC, though.

Georgia will win the SEC East?? Really? I hope so but have my doubts. Considering the last two games UGA did nothing in the second half against LSU and gave up 33 points in the second half to MSU leaves me wondering how this team /coaching staff will perform. Got to play 4 quarters. I guess we’ll see…….

it’s cyclical! what don’t you understand?
lsu had zero sec championships in the 1990s
alabama had 1 sec championship in the 2000s
they both just happen to be good the last several years at the same time.
auburn has 2 sec championships total from 1992 – 2011. no other sec west team has won the sec champ.
the western division has hardly owned the SEC!

RedandBlackDAWG

I would be interested to see a poll come out as to what each teams record will be this year. For those pointing at last years records as a precursor for peformance of this years team at any college, I would think you might want to remember that each team is different from one year to the next. The same players the year before might not have had the experience they needed, or a critical mistake could cause a loss, but that doesn’t mean it will happen again this year. Injuries and even off field incidents can have a profound affect on a program.
Remember, there haven’t been a lot of repeat NC’s in the NCAA in quite a while.

As a Tech fan, I agree that Georgia will make it to the SEC Championship game, possibly undefeated. Georgia’s a good team playing a weak schedule. The interesting thing is, if Georgia can somehow pull out a victory against Bama or LSU (I think we can all agree it’s going to be one of those 2), they could play for the National Championship…it’s all laid out for Georgia this season, and they may not have another shot like this for many years.
