HOOVER, Ala. – The question was about the perceived advantage of the open date on South Carolina’s schedule before the Gamecocks’ Nov. 10 game against Arkansas. But South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier veered in a different direction with the answer.
“You think I make the schedule?” Spurrier said from the podium at SEC Media Days. “If I made the schedule, Georgia would be playing LSU, and we’d be playing Ole Miss.”
The schedule says otherwise, of course — South Carolina at LSU on Oct. 13 and Georgia vs. Ole Miss in Athens on Nov. 3.
Spurrier didn’t make more of the issue, quickly moving on by saying: “Not complaining about that other part I mentioned there.”
But he had made the point, not for the first time, that South Carolina’s cross-division schedule is more imposing than Georgia’s. Last month, at the SEC meetings in Destin, Fla., Spurrier proposed that such schedule inequities be remedied by counting only intra-division games in determining the SEC East and West champions. That proposal went nowhere.
Georgia this season draws SEC West opponents Ole Miss and Auburn (a combined 4-12 in league play last season), while South Carolina draws Arkansas and LSU (a combined 14-2 in the league last season). The Gamecocks have lost to Arkansas each of the past three seasons and five of the past six.

Maybe Spurrier should stop choking against bad teams like Auburn was last year, and he could have won the East, Spurrier sounds like he wants someone to give him a championship, instead of winning it on the field, he has been the biggest choke artist at South Carolina I have seen, hey Spurrier, win the games you need too, and all will be good. Ole Spurrier gets more passes than a two dollar hooker.

UGA is smart to stay in the SEC East instead of making the move to the Big East Conference. They wouldn’t be favored to win all games in the Big East as they are now.

Why dosen’t the cast from Saturday Night Live do SEC Media Days ? It
would be about as worthwhile as this circus. How does any coach let himself get roped into this side show ? Here we are just a few days from the Olympics and the sports crowd can’t think of anything better than interviewing these guys ? And they have to go to Alabama to do it. If the coaches are going to have to put up with this stupidity the least they could do is go to Sea Island.

Winnng the SEC East is hollow when you lose to top 10 teams and get embarrassed in those losses. Be thankful UGA fans that Clemson did not get an invitation into the SEC East, that would mean two losses a year to South Carolina teams.

Why talk about South Carolina losing against Auburn when they BEAT US! Actually, we beat ourselves in that game. Same way we defeated ourselves in the Michigan State bowl game. Our biggest opponent: ourselves!

have talked with several mutt fans and they believe this is the year they will run the table and play for a NC. I am thinking the cosmetology program at Buffalo will be a tough game for them. Well maybe the welding department at Florida Atlantic will give them a game.

This is the SEC, which means anyone can beat anyone on any given Saturday. It just depends on who keeps their head in the game for 60 minutes. I hope the Dawgs can do that this year. If so, they will have a great chance at winning it all.

im so sick of hearing about uga’s easy schedule. Its about time imo. We have had a hard schedule for a long time. Everyone forgets bout our tough schedules we had in years past like 2008 and many more. We will get a tough schedule back and the poor little chickens will have there turn at an easy schedule one day.

I’m tired of people complaining about UGA’s schedule. I didn’t hear Spurrier complaining a few years ago when UGA did play one of the toughest schedules in the country. Arkansas may not be that good this year with an interim head coach. Here is my question for Spurrier: why has his passing offense stunk at SC? If it were not for SC’s defense, SC would not have a good record — with the exception of Lattimore, Spurrier’s offense at SC has been pathetic.

The voters and coaches, computers all had the game being replayed. I guess the same team that got blown out in the SEC championship game, lost to an average BIG 10 Team took notes on how to win the big games. The UGA fan mentality is the BIGGEST joke in the league. We will give you a few weeks and the same harping and crying about how the play calling is a joke, the OL will not block, and the defense will lead the league again in Personal foul penalties.
