South Carolina: Spurrier would prefer Georgia’s schedule

HOOVER, Ala. – The question was about the perceived advantage of the open date on South Carolina’s schedule before the Gamecocks’ Nov. 10 game against Arkansas. But South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier veered in a different direction with the answer.

“You think I make the schedule?” Spurrier said from the podium at SEC Media Days. “If I made the schedule, Georgia would be playing LSU, and we’d be playing Ole Miss.”

The schedule says otherwise, of course — South Carolina at LSU on Oct. 13 and Georgia vs. Ole Miss in Athens on Nov. 3.

Spurrier didn’t make more of the issue, quickly moving on by saying: “Not complaining about that other part I mentioned there.”

But he had made the point, not for the first time, that South Carolina’s cross-division schedule is more imposing than Georgia’s. Last month, at the SEC meetings in Destin, Fla., Spurrier proposed that such schedule inequities be remedied by counting only intra-division games in determining the SEC East and West champions. That proposal went nowhere.

Georgia this season draws SEC West opponents Ole Miss and Auburn (a combined 4-12 in league play last season), while South Carolina draws Arkansas and LSU (a combined 14-2 in the league last season). The Gamecocks have lost to Arkansas each of the past three seasons and five of the past six.

With UGA’s schedule, there are some people in the cemetary that could win 9 games coaching.

CFB Nation is laughing with Spurrier at Dawg Nation. Note the room ERUPTED in laughter. Why? Spurrier has the media laughing at you!

Everyone knows you have a cake schedule AND have a ‘problem’ keeping players out of trouble with the law (Fulmer Cup). Spurrier is doing his job.

Spurrier sure is whiny. They aren’t gonna put an asterisk beside UGA’s record when they win the East. Steve often reminds me of an 11 year old brat.

All this trash talk, and not a single UGA graduate anywhere to be found. I guess anyone who can go buy a hat at WalMart can claim to be a “dawg”. Sad for the actual alumni though, because most of them are good, intelligent folks. But their school gets represented by a bunch of illiterate high-school drop-outs on the AJC. You can actually feel your IQ declining with each subsequent post you read. And you’ve got to love a bunch of losers who live vicariously through a bunch of children playing a game with a ball, having the nerve (or lack of intelligence as it may be) to badmouth Spurrier — who has owned UGA at virtually every college coaching job he has had! You may not like him, but yopu haven’t figured out how to consistently beat him (and his inferior talent) yet!!

Typical Spurrier mind games and whining. He is setting up USCe. I guess he had not issues when he was at Florida he ahd a pretty bad LSU team to paly and UGA had some good Auburn teams.

And since when is playing USCe, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, GT and now MO considered weak.

Last I checked – Florida beat Ohio State.
USCe hammered Nebraska
Tennessee is improving
Auburn is getting back to being Auburn
And USCe is actually a very good team

Our schedule is on par – if not more difficult than any ACC, Pac10 or B10 schedule

Go Dawgs – one game at a time!

An Alabama fan walks into the doctor’s office one day with a hat on. He takes off his hat, and the doctor sees that there is a big frog sitting right on top of his head. The doctor looks at the man and asks him why he has a frog sitting on his head. It was the frog who replied “Actually doc, I was the one who wanted to see you. Can you remove this wart off my butt?”

No tears here for poor little Steve Spurrier, the Gators enjoyed an open date prior to the Bulldog game for years and I don’t recall him saying he had an unfair advantage then. Boo hoo, Steve, Boo hoo.

Since just about all of those teams were pretty bad last year and improvement only looks likely for one of them. And lol at UGA having a tougher schedule then every team in every other conference. You must have a really high opinion Vandy, Ole Miss, and Kentucky.

230gr Full Metal Jacket – I’ll chime in sir. I graduated in 1988. The main reason people get involved with the blog is to show others how witty they are. It really has become a huge waste of time. I’m willing to bet if you go to any blog, in any town, you get the same stuff.

My view on this effort: Stevie “One Hit” Wonder doing what he do. He takes shots at UGA and his base loves it. I don’t like the man. I don’t respect the man. But South Carolina guys do so enjoy. They’ve had two very high profile coaches, Stevie Wonder and Holtz, and what do they have to show for it? They have beaten UGA a few times and won a bowl game or two. (Is it two?).
