Georgia’s first 3 games picked up for television; 12:21 p.m. kickoff for opener

Athens – Fans will be able to catch Georgia’s first three games of the season on television.

That was the news that emerged Monday with the SEC’s release of the league-wide TV schedule. It was uncertain where television might fit in with two of the Bulldogs’ first three games being against Buffalo and Florida Atlantic.

  • The SEC Network picked up Georgia’s Sept 1 opener against Buffalo and has set the kickoff for 12:21 p.m.;
  • ESPN2 will carry the highly-anticipated opener against SEC newbie Missouri at 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 8;
  • Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) will televise the Bulldogs’ Sept. 15 tilt against FAU at 7:30 p.m.

The first three games of the 2012 Georgia football season will be televised by the SEC Network, ESPN2, and CSS according to a league-wide scheduled released Monday by the Southeastern Conference office.

Georgia already knows its Oct. 27 game with Florida in Jacksonville will be televised by CBS at 3:30 p.m., as usual. The other games will be determined the SEC’s 12 days in advance procedure.

The Bulldogs announced this past weekend that they have sold out of season tickets for the 2012 season. Only singles remain for the home games against Buffalo and FAU.

Don’t underestimate Buffalo. They have a great young coach and an up and coming team. Many see them as one of the big surprises this year.

Once again these “fair weather fans” as cornelius washington has called us have sold out 92,000+ seats for a home schedule that leaves much to be desired. I’m glad to see a couple of night games, nothing like football under the lights, especially at the start of the season when the temperature is in the 100’s at noon.

Great year to go to Athens to see a game. Many season ticket holder friends of mine have already offered the ” prison team” games if I want to go.

Does UGA really open the season against 5 teams that went 23-39 combined last year with only one of those having a winning record? Fall practice basically lasts 5 extra weeks in Athens.

@gt bob,

Murray and the Dawgs should inflate their numbers in 2 of the first three games. High expectations runs amok only to be ruined again from an underachieving program under “Ricky Bobby” Richt.

Really, you give CMR the credit for UGA owning Tech? If you hired Isaiah Crowell as head coach then UGA would win at least 9 out of 10.

WoooWeee! Noon on September 1st in Athens to see the nationally competitive and always popular Buffalo in Athens!! With the temperature and humidity most likely in the 90s and with such an attractive opponent, what do you think, 10-15,000 empty seats??? Maybe a third of that in the student section?

As an Athens merchant who lives and dies with football Saturdays, I am not impressed with the AD’s scheduling philosophy of scheduling Tech and three practice home games. When SEC teams (or teams like Colorado, Okie State and Clemson) come to Athens, so do more than 100,000 fans (UGA draws 10-15,000 to Athens who do not have tickets). Great for business. I see where UGA is still hawking single game and season season tickets daily on the web site. With this year’s home schedule, it is going to be a poor year for businesses in Athens that thrive on football attendance.

Get ready, SEC.
Mizzou has the best line-up of receivers ever to walk onto an SEC field.
No one is ready for what is about to happen.
After slicing and dicing SEC defenses, they will march to Atlanta and take home the SEC Championship in their first year.
Then they will lose by four TD’s to Oklahoma in the BCSC.
Get ready, rednecks.

Will,
As a Athens merchant? I find that hard to believe. If UGA chose to play home and away games with a larger opponent, then you would get one less home game every other year. Would 10,000-15,000 folks extra for one game make up for the loss of revenue over an entire game with 92,000? Now I see why your business is struggling…you can’t do simple math!

Will, I would think as a merchant in Athens you would be thanking McGarity for this extra home game. I’m guessing your business is slightly better even with 10k seats empty, than when the football team is in the state of Kentucky on opening day? (as it was previously scheduled)

The MO game will be a good yardstick to measure the dawgs performance this season. The manner in which they win or lose against a fairly matched opponent will be a good indicator into the strengths and weaknesses of this team. Lets hope they’ve overcome last seasons mistakes and off season defections and dismissals.

Athens merchant…make em an offer they can’t refuse – half-off beer during the game (plenty of TVs of course…ypu are a bar or restaurant, aren’t you? Cause if you’re a furniture store I can’t imagine why it could make any difference in the first place). See if you make it attractive enough fans would rather sit in your place and eat Buffalo Wings than head to the stadium just to watch Buffalo play…get it?

Also, I’d be more worried about that 90s humidity that you are predicting, than the opponents. Unless your business is EMS. Or Persian Gulf training.
