Georgia linebacker Brandon Burrows decides to return to team

ATHENS — In a year in which the Georgia Bulldogs have seen their number in a continuing state of dwindle, they finally got to add one on Monday.

Brandon Burrows, a redshirt sophomore linebacker from Marietta who quit the team just last week, asked for and was granted a reinstatement on Monday.

“I’m actually on my way back to Athens right now,” said Burrows, reached via cellphone Monday night. “I’ve just been thinking about it and praying about it a lot. It was weird because, while I was thinking about it, I got a call from Coach [Rodney] Garner and we talked about a lot of things. He was saying I owed it to myself, being fully healthy and not redshirted, to play here and prove to myself I could do it. And I really agree with him. I think I would have being doing myself an injustice if I left in such a manner. So I talked to Coach Richt about it and he’s, of course, as caring and understanding as they come.

“I just can’t put into words how thankful I am to be back and I’m elated to be a Georgia Bulldog.”

Burrows, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker out of Marietta’s Walton High, redshirted as a member of the scout team in 2010, then had to sit out this past season following shoulder surgery. He was able to practice at inside linebacker this spring and was listed as No. 3 at the “Mike” position on the 2012 preseason depth chart. Senior Mike Gilliard and sophomore Amarlo Herrera are currently listed ahead of him.

In announcing his decision to seek a transfer this past Thursday, Burrows said he hoped to become a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme as he envisioned when he first signed with Georgia in 2010.

“There really wasn’t a straw that broke the camel’s back,” Burrows said of quitting. “It wasn’t anything like that. But once you’re gone, that’s like my second family over there and one thing led to another. I just need to take things one day at a time. It was a hasty decision and I just need to focus on getting ready for camp and doing the Dawg thing.”

The Bulldogs had another player quit only to return this past season. Running back Ken Malcome quit the team in frustration over a lack of playing time last September. With Isaiah Crowell’s dismissal on June 29th, Malcome is now the No. 1 tailback heading into preseason camp.

Why do you guys need to define winning the SEC east is like? It not “like” anything except exactly what it is.

Did you NOT want to win the division?

Complaining about UGA’s schedule. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, if this, if that. To quote Suzanne Yoculan, “Losers make excuses.”

Thank goodness, it won’t be long for football season to be here. Then we will settle things on the field. And then settle the SEC in the Georgia Dome. Until then, I expect more whining from rival SEC teams about the Dogs.

Should hear some good news recruiting wise. Sounds like Kelsey Griffin is about ready to pull the trigger. Also think we get Kamara sooner or later. Maybe McNeil and Kimbrough commit this weekend.

UgaInsider, Obviously you’re not inside anything UGA. Chris Peterson has never been approached for the UGA job. IC was on a very short leash with Richt and it was Richt that made the decision.Absolutely no truth or proof to your post.

Cry baby! Get your little feelings hurt and you quit. Now, you’re back or at least until your little feels get hurt again. Grow up and be a man! You’re not entitled to playing time, you have to earn it!

Welcome back Brandon. One great lesson for young people is never leave a situation until you know you have given your best and can leave with pride. Now it’s time for the hard part. GATA in an angry Dawg sort of way

Truth – fully, that probably went right over his head, AD, but I liked it.

So, Techies, when we play 2 (TWO!) ACC teams in 2013 (Clemson, Tech), will the Bulldogs be deemed as having a worthy schedule? Will the UGA blogs become absent of criticism, except for GTBob, who will aways have an insult handy?

Theres alot more the the Petersen story than ppl will ever know about. Richt lucked up and won the East, which allowed him one more year, now has a loosely written contract extension. How could you fire a coach after winning his division?

And that this will somehow bother Georgia fans?

Kelsey Griffin, making his second trip to Athens in two weeks, hearing he will likely be one of 3-5 commits this weekend.
Kimbrough is bringing his parents and head coach with him, so the Dogs may be picking him up.
Kamara is expected to commit soon, and I like the Dogs chances.
Some big time 2014 and even 2015 prospects expected.

The answer to your question- any athlete who does not follow the rules laid down, unlike at practically all other SEC schools where you get a free pass on your drug usage unless they catch you twice. Mulligans are for golf, not drug tests in Athens.

You don’t really get credit for playing Tech because you play Tech every year. Clemson is a nice addition to the schedule and will help out if they stay on the schedule. As for the overall schedule, we will have to see it. You play North Texas and Appalachian St. Two completely useless games. I am not sure if you guys are dodging all of the hard teams in the west again. It will also depend on the SEC East actually becoming a half decent division.

This is the 4th guy who has left the Team and come back: Dexter Morant, Ken Malcome, Marc Deas, and Brandon Burrows…..I question VanHalanger’s performance….more guys have left, transferred, been kicked off or thought abought leaving since he started the official position of “Director of Player Welfare”!! Another crony drawing a check for doing very little!!

Florida’s starting TE, Jordan Reed, today was placed on the “watch list” for the John Mackey award…given each year to the best TE in the country. Nope….Georgia and Bama fans…..absolutely no talent this year on the Gators football team….especially at the receiver positions. Keep on believing that.

I willl be totally shocked if Kamara commits to Georgia. He starts this year for the Vols….or at least plays a whole bunch as a freshman. But….he may be better than any RB on Georgia roster as well….based on what I saw on ESPN this past weekend at The Opening. He is a super talented young man….and can really catch the ball. Someone is going to get a good one in this young man.

And….if Tennessee gets him….they become a contender as well in the East….if they aren’t already. The SEC East is going to be very good this year…..with the exception of Kentucky. Georgia, SC, Florida, Tennessee, and Vandy are all very talented teams.
