ATHENS — Georgia’s roster took another hit on Saturday.
Marc Deas, a redshirt sophomore safety from Kississimee, Fla., has decided to quit the team due to lack of playing time and is seeking a transfer, coach Mark Richt said after Saturday’s scrimmage.
“I talked to him yesterday and he said he just wasn’t getting the opportunity for playing time he’d hoped for,” Richt said.
Deas joins defensive lineman Derrick Lott, who made a similar decision on Friday.
That makes 11 players who have quit, been dismissed or are facing suspension since Georgia’s Jan. 1 bowl game.
More to come later. . . .

Does anyone else find it a little troubling that we are in this situation with numbers 12 years in (for Coach Richt)? You see this kind of attrition in the first year or two of a new staff.

Why the constant anti-Ga. Rant??? You offer no constructive critisism, only juvenile attemps of humor. What are you like 14 or 15 and get bullied alot at highschool? Being as big a tool as you are has to take alot of practice. Grow-up boy and either add to the blog or STFU…

Sooner or later, those that are left will understand the policy and penalties. Then UGA can move on! At least no one is holding these weaklings hands and begging them to stay. The same thing needs to be done with our wonderful government people in Washington,D.C. NOW!

Are we seeing a pattern? If they can’t stay out of jail or stay away from drugs, they quit! How much longer does UGA recruit losers? I have been a supporter of the dawgs since before my college days (Class of ‘72) but I am sick and tired of this! I hear my friends say it’s “win at any cost” so we gotta recruit these players who have no loyalty, no class and no intelligence. If we are keeping up with that philosophy then where are the championships? It has been a long time since 1980.
Sure UGA put together 10 wins in a row last year but did we beat anybody? The best team we beat was UF with a one-legged QB and he damn near beat us! We opened with 2 losses and ended with 2 losses. And that got CMR a new contract! OMG!
We are looking like the only title we’ll have anytime soon is “Losersville” , just like the Braves, the Falcons and the Hawks. Yes, we will win 8, 9 or maybe 10 games in 2012 but again, any wins over anyone rated or maybe even with a winning record?
The more things change the more they remain the same.

Mettenberger transfers, then Ealey, wow, losing guys right after left for Richt going with favorites and not playing other guys.
Hutson Mason had better numbers in the scrimmage, just like last year, guess who’ll get the start?

I guess these guys know more than their coaches. I guess they would rather play for a lesser team but want to be the big fish so bad they don’t care that they will be in a small pond. The same small pond that the NFL scouts sometimes overlook. Any kid who walks off the UGA team is getting very bad advice from someone that isn’t very sophisticated. Bottom line, good riddance. UGA is better off with less independent, “me, me” type players.

Just THINK, these kids have been playing football since they were six or seven. Their talent and HARD WORK have always stood out among the rest. Their talent and HARD WORK were rewarded with a FULL scholarship to the GREAT UGA. Now, all of a sudden, they before QUITTERS and LACK DRIVE. So YOU GUYS actually believe this is the reason they are leaving UGA.
If you are a current student or an alum, do they not teach critical thinking or logical thinking at UGA?

I think most people when faced with the prospect of not being used very much, work or play, will choose the path of least resistance, which these players obviously believe is somewhere else. Those mat drills must be tough or someone else has stepped it up and bypassed the two players in question. I’m just glad you nuts don’t sit near me at ballgames. Most of you have probably never been to one and you surely never attended college anywhere!!!

Do any of you actually believe that any coach at UGA read this comment section? And if so, do you think that they would use any of these suggestions? If you can answer yes to either or both of these questions, please send money to East Fork Consolidated High School, Route 4, Liberty, Mississippi so we can build a new gymnasium with a roof and lights.

IF UGA doesn’t sign about 10 early enrollment players along with however many open scholarship positions that have available to get our scholarship roster up to 85, CMR should be fired for incompetence. I’m sick of us playing with a roster of 65 to 75 players.

Yet more attrition. Just another off-season in Athens.
Hey-couldn’t help but notice but for some reason no comments are allowed on the Rambo piece from a day or so ago. Some Dawg fan at the AJC a little sensitive?
Most embarrassing quote in that story is from Rambos HS coach: “It’s stupid timing on the part of the University of Georgia if you ask me,” Ingram said. “I don’t know who’s policy it was to set that up after spring break but that’s crazy.”
Wow.
Maybe what explains a little about the problems at UGA, when you have “leaders” and “molders of men” like that enabling young men. “It’s UGA’s fault?!?” Great responsibility example there, Coach.

_____________________________________________________
Let me jump in here please Doug, the city of Atlanta has the most SEC fans of every city in the world. This is the AJ-C, where you post this, and this blog has the more different IP Addresses typing their opinions on college football from The SEC perspective than all the other UGA blogs combined. Doug, this post is like the ones from RICHT-0-PHILES saying that if we had not have lost to every team who made the top 10 and not lost to every team who made the top 25 all these years, then Mark Richt would have the best record in The SEC vs winning teams. Of course, he hasn’t which is why they don’t provide a URL Link to it. And, of course the city of Atlanta does exist, all 6 million of us. If Atlanta did not exist ? It does, doesn’t it ? Try to wish it away – like RICHT-O-PHILES try to wish away all the losses to the top teams.

“They lack of talent on the O.L. is a total joke. Yet, Richt and his terrible coaching staff all get raises. The problem at UGA is McGarity and the athletic board for giving Richt an extention and these average coaches raises. My GOD, how do you get a raise when you have proven over and over again that when you do get kids on campus, you can’t coach them up. That is the problem at UGA, and it will never change as long as Richt is the coach. He never, ever, holds players or coaches accountable for their performance, and that is a total lack of leadership. That sums up Richt’s whole career. Sorry UGA fans, but the truth hurts, and this guy has shown his total lack of ability to manage a program”

Rambo’s HS coach, an educator, said “I don’t know who’s policy it was to set that up after spring break but that’s crazy.”. So I guess it’s ok to get drugged-uo on spring break and not worry? Testing is supposed to be a measure of self-restraint, I doubt that many college student-athletes know that term but they can use a stolen laptop (Cam Newton can help) and look it up. If you know the test is coming and don’t know exactly when….

Please stop saying, “drug test the student body.” Students on academic scholarships would certainly lose them for drug related arrests, much less, sexual battery and felony theft. Most students are paying their own way, which these entitled football players are not. In that sense, they are state employees. Adams instituted the drug testing program to increase his stature in the academic world, not realizing it would jump up and bite his biggest source of revenue. That being said, Richt has always followed a double standard with player discipline. He will love and coddle someone like Crowell, but send a third stringer packing for a lesser offense. If Richt tried to develop some of these back up players, he might be surprised.
