Ryan Black covered spring football practice in Athens for the AJC on Saturday and filed this report:
ATHENS — Jarvis Jones accomplished a lot last season. He was named to nearly every All-American team. He was a finalist for the Butkus Award. And he led the SEC in sacks (13.5) and tackles for loss (19.5) for a Georgia team that won the Eastern Division.
But if Jones doesn’t replicate those stats and accolades in 2012, he said he will have failed to live up to his own lofty expectations.
“I can do better than I did last year,” Jones said after Georgia’s first full-pads session of spring practice Saturday. “I’ve definitely got to improve myself. . . . Anything less than what I did last year is a failure.”
Coming off such a dominant first season as a Bulldog after redshirting in 2010, Jones was asked if he feels he is now “the face” of Georgia’s defense. Always quick to deflect attention from himself, he dismissed that notion in favor of a team-oriented outlook.
“I’ve got a role to play. Everybody [does],” Jones said. “I think I’m one of the leaders on the team, and I’m definitely one of the players who my teammates listen to. We got a lot of leaders out there. We got Alec [Ogletree], Shawn Williams, Bacarri [Rambo]. . . . We don’t try to stand out among each other. We all push each other and try to get each other to get the ball rolling. That’s why I think we’re so close. We’re headed in the right direction to do some good things this year. We all believe in each other, and we communicate well. We just enjoy doing what we do.”
Just a few months ago, Jones, Williams and Rambo had to choose whether they would return to Georgia or depart for the NFL. Jones said he did not try to push Williams or Rambo in either direction.
“I just told them whatever decision they [made] —- if they decided to go pro — I’m always going to be in their corner and believe in them and wish the best for them,” Jones said. “But they came back, and we’re gonna take this thing up another level and try to be the best defense in the nation.”
Since spring practice opened on Tuesday, the defense has dominated the offense in drills. Jones pointed out that part of the reason is that the defense brought back more experienced players, “especially up front,” where the offensive line is trying to replace three starters.
“[The offense] is getting a bit frustrated, but that’s what we want,” Jones said. “We want to put them in situations where they can learn and they can improve, so down the road when the season starts, we’ll be a much better team.”
As good as the defense looks to be this fall, the Bulldogs are young at Jones’ outside linebacker position, since both Cornelius Washington and Ray Drew have started to work into the rotation at defensive end. Jones said he isn’t worried, though, since his younger teammates are picking up things “real quick.”
Besides, to meet his goal of eclipsing the season he had last year, Jones admits there is still a lot he needs to learn himself.
“Coaches are still putting new things in there, teaching me new things, teaching us as a defense new things,” he said. “Even when you get to the pros, I think you’ve still got a lot of room for improvement. It never stops.”

This is great news! We goning to have a defense that displays dominants on other teams. Coach Richt knew what he was doing in hiring Coach Grantham. Now that we resrocked the talent and no more wet Willies our D is back to junk yard Dawgs type D. This is how Dawgs supposed to play. We knows we got the talents that just needs being exposed. Now we loaded up to beat down East and then whip Bammers or Lsuers in Dome. I really want to play the bungle tigers and Metzburger. Then we can show Metz why we cast him out and cut him loose when he started stinking. Our defense will put a hurt on the sorry bad QBs we play like chickens and gaytors.

Jarvis is a hero. I love the leadership and focus and selflessness to team that he brings. The DC gets a lot of credit in instilling such a culture. Because Snoop, Mark Richt doesn’t have a clue as to how to build a championship team. He’s more loyal to his assistants than he is to the football program. The players, while all the hype says they love him, they don’t respect him, fear him, follow him. In short, we’re stuck with mediocrity in the near to short term.

Yes, I am not convinced that we have anyone back there defending the forward pass other than Malcolm Mitchell, myself. There isn’t a single Secondary Player whom Erk Russell would have put back there at what he called his Rover Position. We move anyone who could defend the forward pass to other positions.
From that standpoint, moving Malcolm Mitchell back there will prove to be a move that the defense cannot afford to give up.
But, if you look at the defense closely, you can clearly see 12 players who are and have been our Starters – all 12 of whom are absolutely gone after this 2012 season.
It’s a one-year window for Mark Richt and would have served him far better to have his extension actually come up after this season, rather than now.
By the way, why is there not a
WATCH
turned on daily for when Mark Richt actually does sign this extension ?
3 times the AJ-C has announced that Mark Richt got his extension.
3 times.
However, in fact, 3/25/2011, Mark Richt has FAILED to SIGN the EXTENSION November, December, January, February, and now March is all but over.
April ?
The National Press is going to get past this local hype-machine Kool-Aid crowd saying how Mark Richt has his Extension and point this out.
Again, this is good for Mark Richt.
This will be his best season. He starts out # 6 in the nation in all the polls for 2012. He has the most leadership on his Defense he has ever had, led by Jarvis Jones, Consensus All-America and the
# 1 LINEBACKER IN UGA HISTORY.
That’s already after 1 year. I felt that he, as the # 1 player at his position in the 12-year UGA Bulldogs’ history, should have turned pro after last season.
That’s not because I want Mark Richt to fail: Mark Richt doesn’t need me to want him to fail when in 26 games to-date against Opponents who end season 10-Win Opponents, he has beat 8; and Mark Richt has a 1-year window to do well this season; sure, he will return his Offense intact for 2013, but he will have lost his ENTIRE DEFENSE.
Jarvis Jones should have left to the League because he has already proven that he is durable and that the neck is not an issue, as our UGA Doctors told everyone 2 years ago when they let him go over his neck; and another season in The SEC will not alter that with the question still hanging out there after 2012 as well, so he should have left – that’s for himself, as he above everyone else knows that his very next play could well be his last, ever – so, take the guarantee and put the money in the bank. Good Heavens.
Still, I am thankful that UGA fans such as I get to see daily of the 22 position players that we’ve ever had, that he stands alone as the # 1 linebacker in our entire storied defensive history. Defense, like offense and special teams is a team sport where you are better as a team than the sum of the individual parts and strive for team goals – all of which just makes me wonder if any of all these great leaders we have on this team for 2012 as players will teach Aaron Murray what he should have been doing 4 years ago when he 1st came to Georgia and be a leader like
JJ.

This is the solution to ALA and these false NCs…change the ranking from top 25 to top 32.
Take those 32 and pair 1 against 32, 2 against 31 etc on the fist week
thats 16 (bowl games)
then the next week its reduced to 8 (bowl) games
then the next week it’s reduced to 4 (bowl) games
then 2 (bowl) games
then the REAL Championship (bowl) game…that adds up to 31 bowls.
There are currently 35 bowls (only recently they added 4 so we actually lose nothing and gain a real champ
.
32 does not really deserve a shot but since they play number one the 1st week they most likely will be gone anyway and 32 always gets a bowl anyway so you lose no integrity..and if you dig that deep you have no controversy on who is left out (number 33 will not bitch like number 9) and you get all 31 bowls (well there are 35 but you get the picture)
.
Its about doing away with controversy, keeping same amount of bowls and determine a real champ….solves all three problems with one solution
.
It’s a no brainer

Why has Mark Richt made AP Poll Top 10 only once after 2005 ?

(5) Keith Marshall is a BETTER TAILBACK FOR US than Isaiah Crowell. He is a better student, far FASTER, better conditioned, smarter, has better hands, and is a TEAM LEADER, who will not jaw at opponents and be suspended and take himself out of game, no fail drug tests.
(6) Mark Richt is making huge mistakes preparing our team, ONCE AGAIN 2012, as he has done all 12 years now. His loyalty to his coaches and to his Starters is unprecedented among head football coaches – especially in this case.
(7) Keith Marshall HAS TO GET SNAPS WITH AARON MURRAY, NOW, by Heavens.
(8) And, if you are going to REDSHIRT HUTSON MASON, you must DE-ELEVATE HIM from # 2 QB to at least # 3 in practice. You cannot have your cake, and eat it too. If we know that Isaiah Crowell cannot carry this team; and if we know that Aaron Murray is far from anything but maddening vs all the top teams, then this domination of the offense by the defense this entire Spring Practice should not lead to posts about how dominating our defense is when by measured results vs Michigan State, LSU, Boise State and South Carolina – the only 4 teams we played who season end made AP Poll Top 25 – we must get after the Offense failed as it is according to
EVERY POSTER here.

“JJ” was an all american in 2011 and he will repete again in 2012. If you want to see him play it will be this year. I feel he will go pro in 2013. If Coach “R” doesn’t do it this year with this group he may not have a chance to accoumlate such talent in his coaching like time. If the “O” line jells and i think it will and the “RB” step up, the Dawgs will be a hard team to beat. I have only two concerns. (1) Can Bobo step up for this team. (2) Can Murray step up for this. Both need to improve in NOT making mistakes that cost the team wins.

You forget that Mark Richt has to beat top teams, when you bring all that national championship talk in here because you know he faces 1 team in these 12 regular seasons’ games who made it to AP Poll Top 25 to end last season. This while he Lost all 4 games last season against teams who made it to 10-Win Seasons.
10-Win Seasons by Mark Richt Opponents :
Average Margin of Defeat : over 15 points game
22 points Offense Defeat per game
38 points Defense Defeat per game
When we play a team who ends 10-Win Season
Lose on the average by More than 2 Touchdowns
In other words, we are blown-out spectacularly.
It’s not just that we lose, and we definitely lose,
It’s how we lose.
The Offense is annihilated
The Special Teams’ are just obliterated
The Defense is demolished
The coaching staff looks like buffoons

I rad an interview J.J. gave to another recruiting site, yesterday, and I would not be so quick to say this is his last year. He talked about having two more years to achieve his goals while at UGA, and one very big one, was to be a three time all American, and get his degree from UGA. He is a top flight athlete and he could very well be a three time All American. I think the success of the UGA team, this year will greatly influence his decision. His attitude epitomizes what all players for UGA should strive to have. There is a lot of potential this year for these young men.

I have had enough this best defense in the nation and Heisman talk..The player need to play ball and quit talking so much.. We all know what preseason talk will get you. The bottom line.. The dawgs are weak at CB. So the defense in not going to be the best in the nation. I would say the defense will be OK, but with a few weaknesses. A good OC will exploit Uga’s weaknesses on defense.. IC is a great RB!!! IC will not win the Heisman because the OL is also a weakness on the team..Teams already know when and where bobo is going to run the ball. Defenses is going to blitz Ga’s OL because of the inexperience.. Hopefully Bobo will have some short passes added to take the pressure off of Murray.. He will see more pressure this coming up season than Murray has ever seen. This is the SEC. Without experience and depth, winning comes hard.. No team every wins the NC without depth and experience.. It takes alot of Seniors and Juniors..

UGAB,
The CB’s are not weak at UGA, the deep depth is just not there right now. There is a big difference there. Coach Grantham is a master at getting the best athlete in the right position, and he will the CB position sufficiently manned and ready to defend. With the front seven UGA has, opposing QB’s may not have to worry too much about the CB’s of UGA that much anyway, as it is hard to throw a decent pass on your back.
As pertain to the UGA OL, yes there is an experience problem at three of the five positions, but there is no talent problem. UGA was very big and pretty slow last year at OL, but this years version will be lighter but a lot faster on the field. They will make some holes in the defense and once they do, UGA has RB’s that will get through them and get some yardage. Also, do not forget we have a 280 TE that can block, and catch passes so I just don’t see all the problems you talk about, as being major ones.

LSU and Michigan State averaged 37.5 points on the Georgia defense in the SEC championship game and in the bowl game (both losses). I would say that defense still has a lot to prove. But Jarvis Jones is a great playber, no doubt. The defense should be helped out by having more depth. But South Carolina (really good defense and a much improved offense), Florida (really good defense and an improved offense), and Vandy are going to be a lot better in the East in 2012. And I think Missouri’s offense is going to challenge Georgia for sure. We will see.

UGA has had some over rated QBs and Jeff Pyburn and Aaron Murray are two of them. Murray chokes and you can see it when he drops back with the stiff rush oncoming. Pyburn had board hands and was very emotional and really should have remained at Running back.
Murray cannot handle it mainly, because he is too short and that is why his passes many times are so off the mark. It is like he has to throw the ball from the bottom of a well ……………..his passes are too arching and float many times. Yes, with some more experience under his belt, Murray SHOULD BE better but it is his emotional defecits that bother me, when under the gun in REAL important games.
We shall see. I hope that QBs LeMay or Mason will be well prepared. I would not red shirt Mason. Up to him, I suppose. We shall see.

If you are referring to the bowl game, no, the defense didn’t let up. They were gassed. CMR and Bobo’s inept offensive play calling is the reason. 3 and out along with Mich St rallied and played a good game and were better coached. The Dawg defense will be much improved over last year

TampaGator,
We’re not too worried. No. 1 ranked recruiting class in 4 of the last 5 years according to rivals.com 4 OL starters return and the no. 2 recruit in the nation the previous year in Cyrus Kuandijo steps in to start at tackle. Several great backs return so losing trent richardson won’t be felt with Eddie Lacy stepping in for his shot and 2 former 5 star tailbacks in Dee Hart and TJ Yeldon. There are people at Alabama who actually feel Lacy could be better than Richardson.
On defense we lose 5 starters but the backup talent that we’ve had behind those 5 guys is nothing short of embarrassing. The likely new starters at corner and safety are both former 5 star recruits rated no. 1 or 2 at their respective positions coming out of high school Milliner and Ha Ha and that doesn’t even include Landon Collins coming in. The D line will be even better and deeper than last year if that’s possible and the 2 linebackers who will be stepping in have been waiting for a couple of years now for their shot. Going into Saban’s 6th year we are deeper and more talented at every position than we’ve ever been.

The Georgia defense is all bark and no bite. A middling big 10 Michigan state team showed how soft they are- the same Michigan state offense that had -32 yards rushing against the Alabama D in the same bowl the year before moved the ball easily against Georgia .
Dawgs built up good stats last year playing against the weakest schedule in the SEC while dodging the 3 western powers of Alabama, LSU, and Ark during the regular season. These guys are paper bulldogs and while they put up a fight against LSU in the first half both LSU and Mich state exposed them as being average at best.

Defense shoud be solid, but an injury or two at CB (like UF had last year) and it could be tough against passing teams. The offense will be a question mark due to the OL and WR’s. Solid at QB and RB. I expect UGA’s season to be much like last year…10 wins.

We’re not in as bad as shape at the corners as many wish to believe. The D should be much improved from last years decent season. I expect a solid D and an early struggling O. All CMR and Bobo need is an excuse to stay conservative and they have one. No imagination or expectations on offense. Hopefully the running game will turn the corner and Murray will step up and finally be a leader. If not, expect much of the same

I do think the run defense and the pash rush should be stout, but I’m not sold on the corners due to lack of experience. Time will tell. I think if the OL gels quickly, then the offense could be pretty tough with the stable of backs you have. I don’t know how smart the move of Mitchell to defense is. Only time will tell if the other WR’s can step it up.

I’m not sold on MM playing D either although, that is what he was recruited as and flourished playing at Valdosta. No doubt he is an athlete and likely will make big contributions no matter where he plays. The OL is a big question but always a tough call. When Georgia is supposed to have a good stellar line, we don’t and when nobody expects anything from them they get solid. It’s been that way the entire MR era. Tough call. The difference will be if Murray stands up to be the QB he’s capable of

Defense wins championships and UGA will need it, ESPECIALLY EARLY, when the offense is running without Mitchell and with 3 NEW OL. BUT if they can RUN block just decently, UGA has the horses to win with the GROUND game and DEFENSE until the pass blocking can protect Murray well because if Murray is rushed, INT’s will likely come.
No Mitchell, new OL. WIN WITH THE RUN AND THE DEFENSE. ESPECIALLY EARLY.

But I do know that only 2 teams went to the SEC Championship game last year and UGA was one of them! That was AFTER ALL THE PRESSURE AND HEAT PUT ON BY FANS and MEDIA on the coaches AND players and an 0-3 start against 2 top teams!
UGA will ALSO be one of the two teams in the SEC Championship the next 5 years! You will STILL gripe, UGA WILL win the SEC 3 of the next 5 years minimum. You will STILL moan and want Richt fired! UGA WILL play for the NC for the first time in MOST of your lifetimes and you will STILL not be grateful! I have supported Richt through EVERYTHING. ALl you moan and groan and complain about not winning the SEC the last few years and NOT having a NC oppurtunity BUT you are BLIND to the fact that it takes most ALL coaches 15 years PLUS BEFORE THEY WIN THEIR FIRST NC! Know you history as WELL as you know your selfishness. You are IGNORANT and WRONG. How many years did it take the Bear to win his? HUH? HUH? Dooley? HUH? Paterno? Bowden? Even almighty Saban? HUH? These guys WERE young! Now they are EXPERIENCED and MANY learnign the system for the FIRST TIME. Year 3 under Grantham is going to be better than year 2. MUCH better! just like year 2 was better than year 1. Grantham will jsut START getting his recruits on hte field this year plus some of the guys have a year or 2 under their belts and the guys coming BACK, SEVERAL ARE HIGH NFL DRAFT PICKS!

Hey whiskeybreath, people like you make fools of themselves daily trying to defend a guy that just can’t get the job done after 12 years. Real sober Georgia fans know that Richt has done his best and he doesn’t have the killer instinct that a coach has to have in the SEC to win it all. He doesn’t have the guts to hire a real OC and hides behind a neophyte to take the heat for his 90s ACC-FSU offense. Georgia has the talent to win big, but the Head Coach doesn’t have the guts to make tough decisions on his offense like overhauling it for a run based attack. The only people happy about the Richt’s “extension” are idiots like you, braindead, and SEC rivals. What you just said.
Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame in West Palm Beach, Florida for, in fact, being The # 6 coach in The SEC 2012 over the Current 8-Year Period this up-coming 2012 season. “That’s pretty cool, I guess,” Richt said.
Richt played quarterback for Boca Raton High School, earning a scholarship to play nearby at the University of Miami. His senior high school season stands out most for him.
“I think we ended up 11-2 or something like that, went to the semifinals of the state championship, lost to Miami Carol City, 15-12, in Lockhart Stadium,” Richt said. “It was a terrible rain storm. If we could have beat them, we would have played for the state championship, but they beat us. They won the state championship the next week.”
Among the other inductees: former Florida State receiver Jessie Hester.
While he has recruited well here at Georgia, his lax discipline and inability to have his recruits perform both on and off the field, has been hampered by his religion turning the other cheek and forgiving his Starters while for worse offenses, kicking-off back-ups.

# 4 QB in SEC pre-season : Aaron Murray :
“Aaron Murray, Georgia, Jr.: Without Zach Mettenberger’s legal problems in the 2010 offseason, Murray may not even be in this position.”
“How he can improve: Accuracy. Simply put, you can’t complete less than 60 percent of your passes in college—where the passing lanes and windows are much greater than the NFL—and expect to succeed at a high level in the NFL.
An NFL scout says: “I want to see improvement on the intermediate throws; the throws you have to make in our league. He has nice touch on the deep throws, and he understands the position. He just has to refine mechanics and throw with confidence”

[...] Georgia stud linebacker Jarvis Jones said Georgia intends on being the best defense in the nation next year. “We’re gonna take this thing up another level and try to be the best defense in the nation.” And I completely agree with him that Georgia will have a shot to have the best defense in the country because they were very good a year ago. Jones is certainly fun to watch. [AJC] [...]

2 SEC Championships

2 SEC Championships, the last one of which was 2005. 2005 season was 8 years ago now this up-coming 2012 season. After 2005, Mark Richt is the # 6 in The SEC in won/lost record this coming 2012 season; and # 21 nationally after 2005. That does not make me a techie to not settle for that; it does however, make you a RICHT-O-PHILE to settle for that. There is a huge difference in being a Mark Richt fan, and being an UGA Bulldogs’ Football Program fan. If all you want is mediocrity, choose 1 of the 119 other colleges, and be a fan there for Mark Richt. There are 65 Georgia Bulldogs’ Football Program fans to this 1 blog who have told you this. Ignorance is not bliss; it is a lack of education. If you are satisfied with # 6 in just SEC teams and # 21 nationally in won/lost record after 2005, then take a hike – the other 65 of us are not. And, we don’t need your kind around any longer.

You are DEAD WRONG about Crowell versus Marshall
Crowell(according to eyewitness accounts), is running over people. The defense is winning overall but Crowell is playing very physical and has won several one on one battles with the defense.
Marshall shows signs of being good but he lacks the physical size of Crowell but has better speed.
Crowell 220 pounds
Marshall 190 pounds
That is why Crowell is 1st team.
Also, regarding the fights. There were 4 total and Crowell was not involved in all of them. Football players fight? Is this really a revelation? No.
Ken Malcome is also doing very well this spring.
The offensive line is trying to get their depth chart set.
Crowell is the best running back on campus.

Before you can be the best defense in the nation you have to learn to start the 2nd half the way you played the 1st half. EFFORT for four quarters would be nice.

ILL Logical US idiot
And the lack of production from the offense against LSU and Michigan St, including key game changing turnovers, had nothing to do with the defense being put back on the field?
You are too stupid to discuss anything. I wonder why I bother?
People like you who never watch the games, only read stats and take cheap drive by shooting pot shots at UGA re the reasons why these blogs SUCK
You are a full blown idiot.

The fact that a player said this is not a bad thing, but the fact that the UGA fans are believing that a team that averaged 39 pts to ranked teams will be the best in the nation is downright laughable. This is why the REAL SEC teams do not respect you.
Oh and congratulations on the most corrupt state award. Very well deserved.

Lexy,
If it’s the offense’s fault that the defense is giving up more points, then is the defense’s fault that the offense isn’t scoring more points? This is a circular argument argument. The “idiot” involved would not admit that.
Stats and wins are measuring sticks. Good defenses don’t need excuses.

when you hand the ball over on your own 1 yard line, the defense is placed in a crappy situation because of the mistake by the offense.
Murray’s boneheaded mistakes versus MSU put them right back in the game.
to say otherwise means you didn’t watch or you don’t understand momentum swings in a football game and how they affect the mental makeup of a team
It’s not an excuse. It’s a fact.

Georgia has a great defense but lost the last 2 games because of depth on both sides of the ball and lack of a good offensive line. Against the top teams our offensive line wears down and pressure on our quarterback begins to show. LSU overecruits and is stacked 3 deep, Georgia does not and is not. Georgia should be much better this year but may still have trouble with the teams that overrecruit, like Bama and LSU.

You know you’re on the blog of the most delusional fan base in the country when when you’re told you don’t understand football because you doubt that a team that averaged 39 pts to ranked teams may not be the greatest defense in the country next year.
No wonder you guys can’t win a title.

so in your demented little world, lack of offensive production by a football team including critical turnovers does not have an impact on the defense?

My gosh you guys are football dense. UGA was 4th in the SEC in scoring and 3rd in yards/game. And you want to fire Bobo and make Grantham (39 pts) the head coach. It’s this kind of close-mindedness and stupidity that your opponents are preying on.

Hopefully the Defense scores points, and stops the other team. That way the offense can’t get on the field, and ruin it.

” lack of production from the offense against LSU and Michigan St”
Pitiful excuse after pitiful excuse…the silly notion by these beaners is embarrassing….
LSU’s offense not getting many first down while they slept walked thru the 1st half certainly did not slow their real defense down from beotch slapping UGA around all over the field in the SECCG 2nd half beatdown now did it , Lexi Delusion. MSU defense didn’t cry about too many plays in the bowl game when they were controlling UGA in the 2nd half.
Did Vandy run too many plays as they drug the “greatest defense evah” all over Nashville?
So for the intellect challenged Lexi Delusion, let just say that for 2012, teams can only run a limited number of plays against the “greatest defense evah” and any plays after this simply do not count.
Here is a hint…with the major issues at RB\OL\WR…the offense is going to have the same issue for 2012 so get ready for more 2nd half collapses.

The word on the “internet dirt sheets” is that the Georgia AD is looking into allegations that several former players have been “helping” some current and recent players with “expenses”. The NCAA has been notified about this. We are talking about jobs with ” good pay” and “little work”, nice cars, and smaller issues like help with resturant tabs and “girlfriend problems” – if you get my drift. Word is a former quarterback and LB is at the top of the list for possible infractions. More as we get it.

“There are lies, damned lies and statistics”
I’m just going to look at the product on the field and let the Coaching Staff sort out the rest. Whether you want to 39pt talk from the side of your mouth or 19-30 talk your way to making good fans doubt Mark Richt’s ability to coach, this is a really good looking football team. Jarvis Jones- probably the most dominant defender to play for us since David Pollack.
Cornelius Washington-go back and look at how this kid man-handled the tackles like Matt Patchan from Florida and the tackles from Ole Miss, and Miss State. He bull rushes better than any player I’ve seen in a long time.
Alec Ogletree- until he broke his foot in the BSU game he was totally unblockable. That was the single most significant loss for our team early in the season.
Mike Gilliard- great football instincts and just finds the ball. Pairing him in the middle with AO was pure genius by CTG.
Baccarri Rambo- Although he gets fooled by play-action and motion, his ball skills are undeniable and he’s not afraid to lay out for big hits.
Shawn Williams- poor discipline but a pure tackler. He’s got the mean streak that keeps our defense stiff.
John Jenkins-toward the end of the season when he was starting to grasp the playbook, he commanded doubles consistently and STILL found ways to pressure the passer. Prototype as a NT.
Saunder Commings- not the best hands of the group, but he is big, physical, fast, and the best jammer of the CBs.
Malcolm Mitchell- will make Mark Richt and Grantham look like geniuses at the end of the season. Best player to be moved since Pollack moved from FB to end.
Damian Swann- fluid cover-corner who will bridge the gap with Boykin gone. Not the best size but he makes up for it with quick feet and great mirror-coverage.
Branden Smith- is the only player I can truly knock as a starter. Should play exclusively at nickle as a bump-and-run guy in man-coverage. Tackles like a fagina.
Abry Jones- is a massive and active tackler who will be the anchor end with CW bullrushing from the other side. Prototype 3/5 technique hybrid.

Dawg Fan…i agree with last post….and many recruits should honestly look at his situation during recruiting process. While its great to have offers from schools who are being successful on the field, doesnt always guarantee quality playing time..and making a name for yourself with NFL scouts. Jones went from being buried somewhat on a depth chart at USC…to first round material. These are the things Foster and Nkemdiche should consider. Jones came home to GA…and has become a household name with Dawg fans!!!!

Saban won’t allow dawgs to be best at anything other than whining. If georgia wins a BCS title then maybe Nick Saban will allow them to speak. He’s won 3 in the last 10 years. georgia has won 0. Even Auburn has won 1. Face it, Bama sets the standard that Georgia wishes its program could attain. Just Saying

I realize the dawgs have stumbled but i’v never seen them fall. They are a much better “D” than last year. Bash if you chose, it’s just fact not fiction. The “D” will be there. They will have depth and want run out of gas in the 2nd half. I just hope Bobo and Murray CATCH UP SOON. The “O” need them to come up big. If that happen Look Out……………..
