If you missed it -– and if you did here’s the story -– there was a pretty interesting meeting of the UGA Athletic Association board of directors yesterday at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall.
The board got another upbeat financial report and voted to spend almost $4 million on several facilities projects (details in story), but the two topics that might interest you the most pertained to Mark Richt’s contract extension and a college football playoff.
UGA President Michael Adams pronounced the parties “in 98 percent agreement” on Richt’s contract extension and said the remaining 2 percent “is just minor details.” Adams said the executive committee of the athletic board could reconvene by teleconference to approve the deal when it is done.
As for a playoff, Adams added to the recent indications that momentum is finally building toward one, telling the executive committee: “My best guess is we’re going to end up with either a four- or eight-team playoff by the time we get to ‘14.” That assessment came a couple of days after a report that the Big Ten, long a playoff opponent, is warming to the possibility — a shift that Adams called “a very significant development.”
So what are your thoughts about a playoff for college football? An idea long overdue? Or one that should be left to other sports? And if one really is on the horizon for college football, how do you think it should work?

I knos someone who was at BVG thanksgiving table that year and was told that he did not sign a 3 yr deal that was reported earlier in the yr. He signed a 1yr deal so that his agent could continue to negotiate. Neg went no where and he bolted…i believe his pay was in the 190 range at the time and wanted a little more and deservedly so…..but the powers that be said no…his peers were in the 400 to 600 k range. FU Wimp.

Okay everyone, lets all in unison give TDF a robust round of applause acknowledging that he is the brighest, most articulate, smartest yada, yada, yada and the most knowledgeable UGA football expert that has ever posted on this blog. That is all he wants and needs. Lets show him a little love people, he needs that assurance from everyone. I highly commend him for his tireless and relentless effort to make sure that we are all informed and that he is unselfishly passing on this knowledge so that we can quit thinking on our own. All we have to do is read his posts and we can be assured that we are reading the truth and nothing but the truth. If McGarity were to read this blog i’m sure he would love to welcome him aboard as the new title of UGA football expert. I hope not though because then we would lose him on this blog and boy would we (the fans) suffer without all that information. Everyone keep their fingers crossed that McGarity doesn’t stumble on to this blog.

I hope you arent trying to say that I am that clown saying fire mark richt with your first part of the comment. Everyone knows thats not the case.
No I know what I know. BVG wanted to go be a NFL DC. So he went and set himself on that path. He def deserved more money, but it wasnt the sole reason (As you claim for him leaving) He wanted to go to the NFL and took a chance on it that ended up paying off (See him back in the NFL when a DC spot becomes open, not his fault he couldnt convince them to draft or trade for a top corner or safety)
wow wimp??? Im so hurt by that. Maybe next time you can call me captain poopie head or something

TDF is the follower that leaders love. He equates loyalty with not questioning anything. Anyone who is a critical thinker and disagrees he states that they can’t possibly be a fan. In frustration for not being able to refute the facts he resorts to namecalling. He is typical of why UGA is destined to continue its path of mediocrity. I am sure the cults would love to have you. In the years to follow you can continue to defend mediocrity and live for hope.

You and others like you would rather not inform yourself to try and see why something is happeneing the way it is, but instead would rather cry and moan on a comment board????
I call ppl names to let them know their opinion is stupid and wrong, directly after REFUTING their so called “facts”
Its not defeding mediocroty, its called understanding the game and not freaking out over every little thing. Try it sometime.

TDF your last post just confirms what I said. I said you were the winner and you still had to post again. This is my last reply to you. I have no interest in sitting here point counterpointing with someone who really doesn’t understand football as well as he thinks he does(especially UIGA football) Saban, MIles, Myers etc, etc are great football coaches not Richt, and that is the fallacy in your makeup because you think he is> As long as the UGA fan gets in the line you are in and follow that road of mediocrity things will never change. Frankly that isn’t good enouigh for me!!!!!

Yes those are all great coaches and so is Richt. Whether you like it or not he is. He WILL win a NC at UGA and then you can fall in “line” and get behind him. But really hope you dont and you move on to another team. Dont need fair weather fans like you.
You still have yet to name one replacement for him. Id love to know who you think could do a better job. hahahahahah this should be good

How many more years they extend Richt’s contract is how many more years they don’t get a dime more out of me. For the record, I contributed every year since 1973 when I graduated from the Medical College of Georgia. Even during the twenty years I did in the US Army.

1. Give Richt the contract he wants as long as he replaces Bobo with a new offensive co-ordinator.
2. We have needed a playoff in college football for a very long time. Get off your butts NCAA!!!

6 team playoff…1 and 2 seeds get a bye in the first round. Play first round at home stadium of higher seed and the rest at neutral sites. 2 weeks after semis for the national championship. Also, don’t wait so long to start the process (ie 1 month layoff). 2 weeks after the conference championships, start the first games. Target the second Saturday after new years day for the the championship.

I have bashed Richt a lot the last few years, and with good reason. That being said, you don’t fire a coach who wins 10 games in a row with a young team. Give him a 3 year deal and be done with it. I agree with other posters that McGarity will fire Richt if he goes 6-7 again, but if he’s going 10-3 or 11-2, you can’t justify firing him. Now, we’re NOWHERE near where Bama and LSU are, and we’ll probably never get there because Richt just doesn’t have the drive and determination it takes to propel his team to the top. Richt is, and always has been, guy who is content to let the cards fall as they may. He’s content with being good, and good is what we’ll be as long as he’s our head coach. We may at times be VERY GOOD, but good nonetheless.
As far as a playoff system, I’m quite frankly tired of this whole argument. College football will probably at some point have a plus one, but anything other than that is a stretch. At this point, I just don’t care anymore.

Take the consensus top 10 teams. #10 plays at #7’s house and #9 plays at #8’s house.
The other 6 teams have that weekend off.
Eight teams are left to play in the four major bowls. #1 plays #8… #2 plays #7… #3 plays #6…#4 plays # 5. The Bowls receive their game by lottery drawing.
Four teams are now left. To reward the fans, the two highest ranked teams left will host the other two lowest ranked teams.
You now have your two National Championship contenders. As an aside, I would not let this game go to a Bowl. Like the NFL, I would let cities bid to host this game.

Richt’s legal team is already working hard to defuse witnesses in the Cummings assault case and clear the way for the return of the thieves who stole money from their teammate. More of Richt’s double standard and another reason Richt will never win a championship.

Crimedog,
Let it rest. One only has to look at the Gainesville, Fla papers during Buckeye Urban’s tenure, or Saban’s at LSU or ‘Bammy to see that the supposed ‘double standard’ goes on at all schools. Look at the way court cases are adjudicated…double standards apply in every walk of life. Right? No. Restricted only to Richt? No. By the way, witness who picked the girl up (drunk) in the middle of the night from downtown Athens says the young lady had no marks on her at the time of her being picked up. Let the system play itself out before judging Sanders C

I would like to see two rules implemented in NCAA football. Rule #1 – if a team goes more than two weeks without playing a game – their season is over. If a team is idle for more than 14 days they are not allowed to play another game until the following season begins. This puts an immediate end to the ludicrous and completely indefensible gap between a team’s last regular season game and a bowl game. Rule #2 – if a playoff is implemented it must include at least 16 teams. I am in favor of the playoff format used in Georgia High School football with 32 teams, but make 16 the absolute minimum.
Then sit back and watch with amusement as the parasites that rule college football whine and moan about their having to go out and get a real job.

Be careful what you wish for regarding a extended playoff system. The NCAA BB tournament has become so big & popular that it has rendered the regular season meaningless. I no longer watch until tournament time and most of my friends do the same.
