Two hot topics from UGA Athletic Board meeting
If you missed it -– and if you did here’s the story -– there was a pretty interesting meeting of the UGA Athletic Association board of directors yesterday at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall.
The board got another upbeat financial report and voted to spend almost $4 million on several facilities projects (details in story), but the two topics that might interest you the most pertained to Mark Richt’s contract extension and a college football playoff.
UGA President Michael Adams pronounced the parties “in 98 percent agreement” on Richt’s contract extension and said the remaining 2 percent “is just minor details.” Adams said the executive committee of the athletic board could reconvene by teleconference to approve the deal when it is done.
As for a playoff, Adams added to the recent indications that momentum is finally building toward one, telling the executive committee: “My best guess is we’re going to end up with either a four- or eight-team playoff by the time we get to ‘14.” That assessment came a couple of days after a report that the Big Ten, long a playoff opponent, is warming to the possibility — a shift that Adams called “a very significant development.”

Adams sniffs out money with the nose of a bloodhound, and most of it ends up in Adams’ bank account. If Adams supports a playoff, there is something in it for him.

2013 is loaded with OL for GA. With at least a dozen of the top OL in the country looking hard at UGA. Some are saying we will have 5-6 OL for 2013 committed before summer. Kublanow will be a Dawg and he owned Robert N. Tunsil one of the top OL in the country will be a Dawg. Richard Seymours nephew will be a Dawg, Johhny Oneal will be a dawg. Plenty of OL for 2013.
FYI we have 14-17 OL for this year that will compete for the starting jobs. thats a rather good number to have. As for Adams the lifelong fan, he wasnt that good. If we offered he would have come, but we didnt want a plan B project out of HS.
CWM is what killed us. When we had BVG we were on top, when he left we tumbled with CWM. If BVG had stayed UGA would be one of the most dominant teams in the country with 1-2 NCs in the case. But he left and we got CWM. Now we have CTG in his 3rd year and the defense is back to what BVG had it at. If Richt can help Bobo develop a feel for the big time game, then its going to be a great season.

Why are we worried about a contract extension for MR? What has he done for Uga the last 6 yrs? The dawgs could of lost 3 or 4 more games this last season!!! It was an embarrassment the last 2 games. MR is not a hard nosed, tough love coach. MR would rather be home with his family. MR is acting like he owns Uga. Why can’t we demote MR to Qb coach, If MR wants stay in Athens? It is time to find a new coach. MR is a wonderful christian man. Uga needs a SEC, balls to the wall, coach.

BVG sucked!!! BVG put LBS into safety spots and in coverage they got burned. Cost the dawgs some important games..Atlanta finally ran BVG off. Thank god. WM didn’t have a clue. MR let him stay 3 yrs to long for friendship. MR had cost Uga $$$ for yrs.

hahahahahhaha man you are dumb. BVG had nothing to work with in Atlanta. He had no DBs, so of course he is going to have LBs help in coverage. Until the Falcons sign some solid DBs (and get rid of that waste Dunta) the def will always struggle in pass defense.
As for his time at UGA, he was one of the best DCs in the country and we would have never won the SEC without him. So once again I say you are not a UGA fan and some techie loser posing as one.

Playoffs to leave out teams that are not conference champions. This is what people say would make a better playoff. Also, leave out the teams without the top records. Leave out those teams in the weak conferences. We need a careful research of how to set up this playoff, and not a fly by night plan. As a matter of fact what was the Giants regular season record 9-7 if not mistaken with a 4 game losing streak in the middle of the season.

Top 10 to qualify for the playoffs elimantes the weak conf champs. Which would make for a better playoff not having to see a big east team barely ranked playing in a major game, or from a crappy ACC team getting into the mix.

I say to you then go look at comparitive stats from when Richt was calling plays and Bobo current play calling. Bobo beats him in every category but one, beating the top teams.
If Richt can teach him the feel for a big time game he will be just fine, as well as teaching him to mix it up.
OL and RBs will be much better this year, which in turn will make our offense better. He didnt have the personnel he needed last year to run his offense, now he does.

YES to a playoff, 1st choice is a 8 team playoff but could accept a 4 team. 8 team would have auto entry for SEC, Big 10, Pac 12, Big 12. After that it is a matter of choice. I think the second 4 would be up for grabs by other conferences but not automatic. This leaves a way for conf. like Big East, etc but not auto. Some question on whether or not a team from say Big Ten, could get in if they were not already the league champions. I think not but possibly.
The 4 main bowls could serve as the first round of 4 against 4 and then have 2 vs 2 and then 1 vs 1 for the winner. Sounds simple and keeps the bowls in the picture. Cullowheedawh

D FENCE: I totally agree with you about Delaney and the Big 10 (or whatever they are) now wanting a playoff because they are jealous and looking at the SEC. For years they had this air of superiority until they got throttled by UF for the 06 Title. The Big 10 has been irrelevant on the national scene for the last 6-8 years. I love it.

TDF……..CMR needs to teach Bobo……we didn’t hire a proffesional in Bobo???? Their playbook recently has been run the TB behind the stutter stepping FB or play action pass from under center 20 yards down field. Results…..D’s blitzing and either jamming the run or jailhouse breaking for the QB..ending result: sack or INT. Bobo has never called the plays before he became the OC. So yes he does need a little coaching on the feel of the game. When you should stomp on the gas or slow it down. Big problem for bobo. Any new OC needs that kind of help.

BVG saved a lot of CMR inept offensive outputs to win games. Coaching in the SEC went down for a while, but now it is super strong across the board and Bobo is struggling with the better D’s…and lesser ones out of conference .pts on the board at the end of the game matter and how you pursue them as an O coach matter too. My 12 year old daughter isn’t as naive as you….sorry.
