I just think it’s a damn shame that these kids waste such a great opportunity. I’m a Tech fan, but I hate to see this kind of thing happen anywhere. Don’t these kids know that there are literally thousands of kids that would love to have the chance to play big time football, AND have their education paid at the same time. WHAT a WASTE !!.

2. Remember that these young men are real people. Don’t talk about them on here how you wouldn’t want someone to talk about your son if he were in the same situation.

Now everyone needs to understand that all teams are selecting players from a myriad of environments and personal situations. Some of these kids don’t get the moral upbringing that others get.

BC it was the lowest level secondary offense by Richt, it didnt give us any advantage in recruiting. Tech on the other hand had a coach just blatantly sending texts when he shouldnt….. now thats Dumb.

Highly doubt that Richt even knew it was a violation…. where as your coach knew it was.

And if Tech didnt suck so bad maybe the crappy writers wouldnt lay into Tech so hard. But they do it to UGA just as bad. Have you never seen the titles for UGA Recruiting Articles???

I’m not so sure they’re throwing away an opportunity to play football. Some other school with lower standard will pick them up. But they ARE throwing away the opportunity not to be total douches… or worse.

Getting caught out after curfew, or getting drunk and acting like an ass is one thing, but stealing? From a team mate? Five hundred dollars??? If I’m the guy they stole from, I’m pressing charges.

My wife and I raised three boys and their seems to be an inability of young men to listen to warnings and to learn from the mistakes of others. It seems they have to hit their head on every low hanging branch, step in every hole, and fall in every creek in other to learn.

Consequences are tough, but that seems to be the only way for the male of the specie to learn.

These two kids need to get their life together. Marshall was recruited by every major college in the area. One of the coaches needs to give him a second chance.

Seay was not recruited by any other major except Georgia. One of the Troys or La Tech type colleges who recruited him needs to give him a second shot.

if i could change any part of the way i grew up it would be the importance that i placed on sports. although i have a couple of degrees from uga i have to say that criminal/oppressive behavior is not limited to any of our schools where athletes are treated as though sports, especially football, are holy. young top-of-the-line players are given to believe that they have the right to oppress. that has always been the case, and it has not changed in fifty years that i know of. sports are just games; they involve a whole lot of money, but they are just simply games. period.

This is the Georgia Way! I hate it for these kids. They did something apparently extremely stupid and severe. They made a mistake. CMR is all in favor of second chances, and he should be. This was so severe that he didn’t give them a second chance. These kids will land on their feet, probably at one of our SEC competitors. For those Dawg fans that want a program with character… this is what we need. Again, better to have character than characters!

Clearly these two are not college material if the accusations are true. Stealing money from student dorms. Dorm life is quasi-communal – you can’t lock up all your stuff. If one cannot be trusted among your own student peers, your future is dim…

Kudos to UGA for handling this with appropriate severity (was it the school or the Athletic Dept.?).

Unfortunately, miserable human beings who can play football will be welcomed by other football universities under the cover of “every one deserves a second chance.” Auburn comes to mind (Cam Newton – stole a fellow student’s laptop).

Better disciplinary tactic than kicking them off the team – KEEP them, work their a$$e$ off, and never let them see a down of football on game day. They never get what they covet – the lime light and a shot at the NFL. Suspensions and cutting them loose means nothing when they can wind up at Auburn, TN, or LSU. Make it impossible to get a shot at the big time and the BS will stop.

As far as awarding scholarships to walk on’s, I think the coaches would rather give a scholarship to a player they have coached for a year or two and thus know if they can play on Saturdays, rather than giving a scholarship to a marginal high school player they really know nothing about.

These players should be getting pretty thorough evaluations. Sorry, but some kids come from backgrounds, or have personality traits that are related to higher crime rates. SEC schools are willing to take risks on these kids because football is all that matters.

After watching him play football and basketball at Wilcox County, and the wonderfull attitude, disipline and leadership skills he displayed, I’m in total disbelief. I’m kidding! What difference does it matter what team they were on. If you steal you steal. Next time someone grabs your wifes purse at a mall check out the team logo on the jacket before you press charges. College football is a Wall Street business where money is the only thing to be considered. The coaches that are heroes in our eyes make more money in a year than most people writing make in a lifetime. As Mitt Romney would say I’m not concerned about the very poor. Just met Nick Marshall’s relative in Hampton, GA. last week and we talked about the great future Nick had…Dang it…UGA is in a bigger media market than Bama and LSU, Florida, TN., so we cannot hush up this stuff like other programs do…I don’t ever see UGA oversigning like Bama, LSU, those West teams are up for a reason, and part of it is flush these kids anytime you need room for a 4-5 star stud! That’s the Saban way…we all know it…I just can’t see CMR ever doing that, and it is troubling to some degree….

It seems very hypocritical to continually talk about what a great man he is when he has more low character kids than anyone in that league. Why does he not give scholarships to some more deserving kids? Oh, they do not run a 4.3. Richt is just another coach that well sale his soul to win, nothing more nothing less, and when he plays a REAL team or schedule he never beats anyone any good. Anybody still believe that CMR is too soft. These two kids just threw away a chance at a good education and possibly a good athletic career as well.
Growing up, I never knew my real father but the man that raised me was as honest as a preacher and instilled in me the values of being honest. Once you lose your integrity, self respect and the respect of your peers, you no have lost a lot in life.
I have no doubt they will end up on somebodies roster, although I think, until they have somehow atoned for their stupidity, you would think any coach would steer far away from these two. There will always be a coach someplace, desperate enough to ignore character issues and give them a scholarship.

We lose 21 seniors next year, plus those that leave early and could cost us all 11 starters on D. Then add the walkon scholly’s and extra scholly’ from attrition. For next year it will add up to 30.

Satan doesnt do this. He sign 27- 30 every year and then kicks kids off the team, finds a way to get a medical red shirt, or finds a minor violation and runs them off.

And signing 30 isnt over signing when you are under the 85 scholly limit cap. Satan gets to the cap then removes players to make room for others.

So once again not even close to the same thing.

Enough of this.
I don’t expect the University to be able to ride herd on 30,000 young people. For the average student its up to his or her parents to keep them in check. But for athletes, football and basketball especially, the athletic department – coaches in particular, have to take some responsibility for these kids.
Sure, some are bad news, don’t know how to act and need to go, but most are just high spirited kids, turned loose in an environment full of trouble and temptation and they need a hand on their shoulder and a coach who will put the fear of God in them until they can do some growing up.

TDF.. To compare Bama’s recruiting class this year or any other in the last 5 years is akin to comparing our trophy cabinets. UGA gets respectable classes and the coaches at UGA are able to coach the kids “up”. All the way up to a bunch of ten win seasons and appearances in mediocre bowls, with an occasional good bowl thrown in the mix.

If the rumored conduct (locker room thievery) occurred, good for Richt. This will send a strong message. They will likely only have charges brought against them if injured parties file charges w/ the police. Still, this is really bad for our secondary. Both Sanders and Marshall were going to be big contributors. Arguably, our secondary (as a position group) got the best infusion of talent from the “Dream Team.” Now, the position is an even bigger priority next season. At least GA talent is stacked in 2013. And, at least we still have Swann and Moore, probably the best secondary players from that class at corner and safety, respectively.

Here’s another thought. If coaches were thinking about giving Mitchell a look at playing some corner in 2013 (when we had 2 other perfectly capable players at the position), I bet it’s a virtual certainty now.

It is no secret everyone knows his tactics. If he didnt force medical redshirts on kids they wouldnt have put in a rule this year just for him to not be able to do it anymore.

As for kids getting kicked off the team, just see the rrecruits from this year that bama tried to grey shirt (Just as bad as kicking them off the team since they had been committed for so long)

It doesn’t matter what the offense…home training and respect! I don’t feel sorry for ANY of them! You do the crime you do the time! Wasted a scholarship at a Division I school, SMDH. It’s a prvilige not a right! FREE educaiton, I’m still paying back student loans! My cousin got a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to play basketball for Michigan and in his second year he realized he wasn’t going Pro, got in the engineer program and now is an Engineer, free education with a free degree and all he had to do was play basketball for the school not a bad trade off.

Interesting. I would say that this would definitely help the uga discipline problem. It may take a little while, but this should definitely get the attention of the team and make them think twice before they make bad choices.

It could make it more difficult to recruit in the future. Some of the prima donna recruits they have been able to get in the past may think again. I would still say it would be in CMR & uga’s best interest though.

Good for CMR for finally putting his foot down. I still don’t think he would have the nads to do it to an AJ Green…sorry, but being suspended for two FCS games isn’t exactly taking a chance. If he does this now though, maybe you won’t have any more repeats of Ealey or the other back. Note, IC didn’t sit for UF last year even though he probably should have.

Still commendable…here is an idea, don’t recruit bad character to begin with.

CMR kicks off three that have not yet started. CPJ kicks off a 2 year stater with one more year of eligibility. It hurts to do it, but it hurts to let it continue on a team as well.

There is one major difference between UGA and Alabama football. The players show up at Alabama and know that they are there to get and education and play football and it is run like a business as they are told they can get to next level with dedication, hard work and staying out of trouble. It is expected and demanded while at UGA it seems that football is a secondary reason to be on campus to “some” players.

I attended a fairly large state school in GA and a lot of the students (non-athletes) were in to drinking and drugs. It’s funny how people label and criticize black atheletes on here. Do some of these kids need to grow up and be held accountable? Absolutely. But to act like drinking and drug abuse is specific to kids from poor neighborhoods or from 1-parent households is ignorant. Most of the drug use on colleges campuses is from middle to upper-middle class, white non-athletes.

I love how you guys picked the comment I made about al.com out of my post and didn’t address the fantastic point I made about the AJC writers being op-ed columnists for a Georgia paper. But then again, logic seems to escape most of you.

If the writers or bloggers that get paid by the AJC want to be biased that is one thing. Like Chip, he writes about UGA, It is posted on his nameplate, but when a guy like Carvell is supposed to be a “recruiting” column and all of his articles are “pro-UGA” & SLAM pieces against everyone else it becomes obvious he is a UGA shill trying to influence high school kids with his columns. Just be honest and say you are a UGA guy and my articles are slanted.

That is why your program is not winning and that is why he gets paid 5 million a year to make those tough decisions. I do not think anyone will be wondering about him next year or the year after that when Saban and his players are holding that BCS trophy over their heads.

It is about winning and making sure those kids get an education while they are on campus. It is a business, and television made it a business, run it like one.

Get a clue…UGA is not relevant in the big picture..

I think and know that USC has owned UGA for two years and will make it three this year, while UF will start another streak against you this fall.

Relevance..look it up…

UGA was the 5th or 6th best team in the conference going by post season rankings…that is a fact.
