3 players dismissed by Georgia for team rules violations

ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and  defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.

The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.

“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education.”

Marshall’s high school coach,  Mark Ledford, was reached by the AJC this morning.

“I don’t want to comment on what Nick did,” said Ledford, head football coach at Wilcox County High.  “All I’ll say is I’ve been informed he is going to be released from UGA. As far as the details, I’d rather wait and see what Georgia is going to say officially.”

Marshall, a former AJC Super 11 player, was expected to play a significant role in Georgia’s secondary next season. He played sparingly as a cornerback and nickelback and extensively on special teams as a true freshman last season. A four-star prospect as a guard, he was also expected to join the Bulldogs’ basketball team at some point.

“There were going to be a lot of opportunities for him,” Ledford said. “It’s a shame he’s wasting those opportunities at Georgia. He’s going to have to accept the consequences and hopefully learn from them.”

Sanders, an all-state safety at Tucker, played in the first three games for Georgia before being sidelined with an injury the remainder of the season. He was expected to have four years remaining and contribute in the secondary.

Seay, who is from Leesburg, was redshirted last season, while Sanders, who is from Tucker, played in the first three games before missing the remainder of the season because of injury.

Thats what happens when there is 10K ppl in a little space that has 10 trashcans. Its the universities fault for not putting more trash cans and porta potties out there for use on game days.

2 arrests since the end of 2010 season.

Every team has player problems.

Those are rival games and I loved the taunting of those clowns (AU, UF) Thought they were great displays of STFU

ahahahhaha then why did JJ pick us over Bama as well as JHC and many others. Bama got 4 good one from this state this year the other we didnt even want or offer.

And FYI Foster will flip to UGA. Matthews ratted him out in an ESPN interview. And Foster told him to quit snitching on him.

As for BG take him he got destroyed in his all star game and wouldnt have played for 2 years at UGA. He will get lost on Bamas bench and never play.

You are clueless:

Alabama- business like atmosphere
UGA- Where is the party?

That was Felton, never liked him and Fox is much better. Every school has problems, but keep saying its only UGA. Tech had a similar problem but Hewitt covered it up with kids taking tests for his players.

Ryan what in the hell are you talking about? How does dismissing three players (one of which has NFL talent) show a lack of discipline?

Are you that dumb or simply a troll relishing in a rival having to make a tough decision? My hope is that the three of them realize their mistake and move on to a successful life of good citizenship.

I’m a Bama fan and like 95% of out fanbase, I’ve never been to the school other than to attend a game and even then I had to put the family truck in hock or sell blood and semen just to afford the dang ticket. Needless to say, I’m posting this from the local library and getting all of my big words from the dictionary that I stole.

Players kicked off of one team should not be allowed to compete against that team while playing for an opponent in the future. Bonner at Tennessee, Mettenberger at LSU, and now these three, should not be allowed on the field agsinst Georgia in future games. The NCAA needs to address this issue.

“I’m sure the guys over at al.com rip UGA and other schools surrounding the lovely state of Alabama.”

No. Not really. You rarely if ever read about UGA football at al.com. UGA football is largely irrelevant in the state of Alabama. When the last 3 national titles have resided in the state of Alabama why in the hell would anyone concern themselves with a middling 2nd tier program like UGA? Why?

You will very very rarely ever read an article on Al.COM with a negative spin on UGA, or Florida or Tennessee. The blood over there is drawn from the two schools from within the state of Alabama.

Unlike on here where Carvell is just a UGA “shill”.

This is just Richt’s way of doing what Saban does – had to have some room for these new 4 & 5 Star recruits. If they had been starters, he would be suspending them for the first game and nurturing them to become men.

My daughter attends Alabama because she couldn’t get in Georgia because she “only” had a 3.45 gpa in high school. She tells me that most of the football players at Alabama smoke dope and spend most of their time trying to pick up white girls. Drinking and other violatins go
unpunished and overlooked and Saban and his coaches look the other way. Too bad…I thought Saban had some class but it appears he’s only out for himself. It will catch up with him one day soon.

Not since Saban arrive. Check your numbers. ESPN did a piece on it last week. After this years draft Saban’s Alabama will have up to as many as 8 more players in the NFL than any other school in the conference….check it out.

Not saying that UGA is not doing a good job of getting players to the NFL, but Mark Richt’s job is not to get players to the NFL, it is to win Titles..How’s that been going lately?

I attended a fairly large state school in GA and a lot of the students (non-athletes) were in to drinking and drugs. It’s funny how people label and criticize black atheletes on here. Do some of these kids need to grow up and be held accountable? Absolutely. But to act like drinking and drug abuse is specific to kids from poor neighborhoods or from 1-parent households is ignorant. Most of the drug use on colleges campuses is from middle to upper-middle class, white non-athletes.

RedandBlackDAWG

The Bear,

Unlike a lot of SEC teams, UGA has an open policy and once it has been confirmed that an incident has occurred, UGA will state the reason. You don’t see many of these “In violation of team rules”, come out of the UGA athletic Dept. These two were stupid enough to try and steal from their own team mates and were caught in the act from what I understand. The punishment, may seem harsh, but it was the only way to go with these two. They would never have the trust or confidence from their team mates to continue to be part of the team. Time to move on, and most likely, another coach from the SEC will give them a spot if he has a need for their services. At least, thanks to UGA being open, the other coaches will not be left wondering what happened and then can decide on their own, if the hit on their integrity will be worth it. Of course, we know how much integrity some of the SEC coaches have now, don’t we?

If the writers or bloggers that get paid by the AJC want to be biased that is one thing. Like Chip, he writes about UGA, It is posted on his nameplate, but when a guy like Carvell is supposed to be a “recruiting” column and all of his articles are “pro-UGA” & SLAM pieces against everyone else it becomes obvious he is a UGA shill trying to influence high school kids with his columns. Just be honest and say you are a UGA guy and my articles are slanted.
