3 players dismissed by Georgia for team rules violations

ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and  defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.

The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.

“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education.”

Marshall’s high school coach,  Mark Ledford, was reached by the AJC this morning.

“I don’t want to comment on what Nick did,” said Ledford, head football coach at Wilcox County High.  “All I’ll say is I’ve been informed he is going to be released from UGA. As far as the details, I’d rather wait and see what Georgia is going to say officially.”

Marshall, a former AJC Super 11 player, was expected to play a significant role in Georgia’s secondary next season. He played sparingly as a cornerback and nickelback and extensively on special teams as a true freshman last season. A four-star prospect as a guard, he was also expected to join the Bulldogs’ basketball team at some point.

“There were going to be a lot of opportunities for him,” Ledford said. “It’s a shame he’s wasting those opportunities at Georgia. He’s going to have to accept the consequences and hopefully learn from them.”

Sanders, an all-state safety at Tucker, played in the first three games for Georgia before being sidelined with an injury the remainder of the season. He was expected to have four years remaining and contribute in the secondary.

Seay, who is from Leesburg, was redshirted last season, while Sanders, who is from Tucker, played in the first three games before missing the remainder of the season because of injury.

So it’s ok for Crowell to break the same rules twice. We keep pot smokers but we can’t punish these guys and make them pay and work there way back on the team. Also Coach Richt has had several recrcuiting voilations in recent years and he gets a slap on the wrist.
Lets see how manny people are upset when Nick Marshall signs with someone like LSU and burns UGA.

You have do have 2 titles but you also have Harvey Updyke and a fan who was arrested for sexual misconduct after this year’s game and he is an alumnus of Bama. What a great fan base!

Freshman thanks for the response. I like to think we are people who are concerned about people even college football players. Coaches say they love there players and they do in a way. However, after the Les Miles and Brian Kelly explosions during signing day I believe they love the money made by these players much more. I would like to know how many of the Super 11 over the last years have had a great career in life. This opposed to how many have served jail time. This has nothing to do with football but I wonder if any major university would settle for 7 win seasons and spend that money and cure cancer would they.

“How does it feel knowing you didnt earn that trophy??”

21-0 says we did earn it. Sorry ma’am but all I know is the facts ma’am. Fact is that the bcs crystal trophy resides in Tuscaloosa for the 2011 season. That’s all I know. That and that the AP also gave Bama the AP title. Sorry ma’am but I just deal with the facts. Just the facts ma’am.

You people do realize how many non-athletes get in trouble for fighting, woman attacking in various forms, underaged drinking, DUI, possession of illegal anything, stealing, destroying property, dealing drugs, etc at every school in the country right? Why do regular students get a pass when they are supposed to be smarter the dumb ol’ jocks and should know better? You say athletes should get more attention because they are in a privileged position but then bash UGA when they dismiss these guys for misbehaving while giving every other school a pass for only reacting after they get caught hiding things.

This isn’t about UGA since we’ve had stories from schools like Miami, UNC, OSU, USC, Auburn, Tech, Florida, UT, South Carolina, LSU, [goes on and on and on] about athletes doing wrong. It’s just funny that UGA-haters love to say that it’s only UGA bringing in people who would do these things when it seems that UGA self-reports and acts on the most discipline issues of any BCS school in country. I could understand the UGA-bashing if it was a case of hiding these things in some grand scandal but UGA typically acts on them without the SEC or NCAA having think about it.

Grow up people.

TDF.. To compare Bama’s recruiting class this year or any other in the last 5 years is akin to comparing our trophy cabinets. UGA gets respectable classes and the coaches at UGA are able to coach the kids “up”. All the way up to a bunch of ten win seasons and appearances in mediocre bowls, with an occasional good bowl thrown in the mix.

Yes, it’s perfectly logical to just assume every team has a crime problem because your team does without any proof at all. That is a much better thought process then trying to figure out why your team has a crime problem.

” Ill take UGAs class over Bamas any day of the week.”

Yes. Of course. I’m reminded of UGA’s class every time the AJC showed pics of the north campus completely trashed after a UGA home game. And I’m reminded of it with the 40 something police contacts with dawg players the last 3 years. And I’m reminded of it with the 3 players booted just today for stealing from teammates. Jan Kemp reminded me of it. And of course when Georgia leads the nation in personal fouls on the football field I’m reminded of it. Florida was reminded of it when the whole Georgia team rushed the field after a td. AU was reminded of it several years ago when Knowshow and other dawg players were taunting them and dancing on the sidelines. Yep. You’re one classy group over there. Oh. And that AD Damon Evans with the red panties. Yep. Class definitely starts at the top.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

If the rumored conduct (locker room thievery) occurred, good for Richt. This will send a strong message. They will likely only have charges brought against them if injured parties file charges w/ the police. Still, this is really bad for our secondary. Both Sanders and Marshall were going to be big contributors. Arguably, our secondary (as a position group) got the best infusion of talent from the “Dream Team.” Now, the position is an even bigger priority next season. At least GA talent is stacked in 2013. And, at least we still have Swann and Moore, probably the best secondary players from that class at corner and safety, respectively.

Here’s another thought. If coaches were thinking about giving Mitchell a look at playing some corner in 2013 (when we had 2 other perfectly capable players at the position), I bet it’s a virtual certainty now.

Please please tell us how you can recruit teenagers you don’t even know, no matter how much time you spend begging them to come to your school, and PROPHETICALLY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE GOING TO DO IN THE NEXT 4 YEARS WHEN IT COMES TO ACTIONS.

Bama fans,

We get it. You’re team is more successful, is on an all time great roll (no pun intended), and has the talent stashed away to be contenders for years to come. But I ask the question again, why are you on a UGA blog trashing Georgia? If you want to talk trash, shouldn’t you be on an Auburn or LSU or even Arkansas website? We’re not even very big rivals, we only play every so often.

Why don’t you just enjoy your success and GTFO?

It is no secret everyone knows his tactics. If he didnt force medical redshirts on kids they wouldnt have put in a rule this year just for him to not be able to do it anymore.

As for kids getting kicked off the team, just see the rrecruits from this year that bama tried to grey shirt (Just as bad as kicking them off the team since they had been committed for so long)

Keep trying to defend him though. Only shows how dumb you are!

I really don’t want to dog UGA, this could happen at Tech or anywhere.

I hope they didn’t steal $500.00 dollars from a collage kid, or anyone for that matter, that would be bad.

This should drop UGA’s 2011 recruiting rankings, this is like 5 players now from the “Dream Team” that will never strap on a helmet of UGA.

My cousin got a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to play basketball for Michigan and in his second year he realized he wasn’t going Pro, got in the engineer program and now is an Engineer, free education with a free degree and all he had to do was play basketball for the school not a bad trade off.

Interesting. I would say that this would definitely help the uga discipline problem. It may take a little while, but this should definitely get the attention of the team and make them think twice before they make bad choices.

It could make it more difficult to recruit in the future. Some of the prima donna recruits they have been able to get in the past may think again. I would still say it would be in CMR & uga’s best interest though.

Good for CMR for finally putting his foot down. I still don’t think he would have the nads to do it to an AJ Green…sorry, but being suspended for two FCS games isn’t exactly taking a chance. If he does this now though, maybe you won’t have any more repeats of Ealey or the other back. Note, IC didn’t sit for UF last year even though he probably should have.

Still commendable…here is an idea, don’t recruit bad character to begin with.

CMR kicks off three that have not yet started. CPJ kicks off a 2 year stater with one more year of eligibility. It hurts to do it, but it hurts to let it continue on a team as well.
