3 players dismissed by Georgia for team rules violations

ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and  defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.

The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.

“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education.”

Marshall’s high school coach,  Mark Ledford, was reached by the AJC this morning.

“I don’t want to comment on what Nick did,” said Ledford, head football coach at Wilcox County High.  “All I’ll say is I’ve been informed he is going to be released from UGA. As far as the details, I’d rather wait and see what Georgia is going to say officially.”

Marshall, a former AJC Super 11 player, was expected to play a significant role in Georgia’s secondary next season. He played sparingly as a cornerback and nickelback and extensively on special teams as a true freshman last season. A four-star prospect as a guard, he was also expected to join the Bulldogs’ basketball team at some point.

“There were going to be a lot of opportunities for him,” Ledford said. “It’s a shame he’s wasting those opportunities at Georgia. He’s going to have to accept the consequences and hopefully learn from them.”

Sanders, an all-state safety at Tucker, played in the first three games for Georgia before being sidelined with an injury the remainder of the season. He was expected to have four years remaining and contribute in the secondary.

Seay, who is from Leesburg, was redshirted last season, while Sanders, who is from Tucker, played in the first three games before missing the remainder of the season because of injury.

If is funny how a GA fan turns around and bad mouths 2 other schools. Why? Because of his or her insecurity for this embarrasing truth. Keep our schools out of your trashy attitude.

“We all know how he treats players and recruits.”

Yes. He treats them very well and gets them degrees and prepares them for the next level. In fact he treats em so well that he just keeps landing no. 1 rated recruiting classes year after year.

“Guy only cares about himself.”

Not intended to be a factual statement.

I’m a Tech fan, but I just can’t believe the stupidity of some of these players. Not to be difficult or anything, but it sure would have helped UGA if they jacked the stuff last week so y’all could sign another player or two.

wow thanks for showing the real stupid in you. Try and keep up

We lose 21 seniors next year, plus those that leave early and could cost us all 11 starters on D. Then add the walkon scholly’s and extra scholly’ from attrition. For next year it will add up to 30.

Satan doesnt do this. He sign 27- 30 every year and then kicks kids off the team, finds a way to get a medical red shirt, or finds a minor violation and runs them off.

And signing 30 isnt over signing when you are under the 85 scholly limit cap. Satan gets to the cap then removes players to make room for others.

So once again not even close to the same thing.

Tech would have never kicked those two kids off the team.

We just kicked a kid off our team (a kid that we needed) for violating team rules before a bowl game. You really think we would keep kids who steal from their teammates? If the situation ever comes up I guess we will see. I doubt it will ever happen though.

TDF, I am neither a Tech or UGA fan, just enjoy college football. However, for you to continue spew venom, call names, mock, belittle every single comment is just plain immature. Is an intelligent discourse even possible with you? You, yes, YOU, are the guy that gives UGA fans such a bad image. I’m sure you don’t care, obviously you are much smarter than everyone on here, but for the sake of your university, you might want to consider toning it down.

After further consideration, I feel confident that you have never set foot in a classroom at UGA, so it would be wrong to call it “your” university. Are you still enrolled at Lanier Tech?

I wish we would dispatch from the word “mistake” when speaking of criminal acts.

A mistake is forgetting to wear a belt. A poor life choice is what these adult humans made.

They aren’t children, they know right from wrong when they get to college. They chose to act poorly.

For every player who is dismissed from the Georgia athletic program the University should be required to provide two academic scholarships to deserving individuals. Playing football at Georgia is a privilege, not a right. No matter how good you are the adult world is a lot different than the high school world.

J W

Enough of this.
I don’t expect the University to be able to ride herd on 30,000 young people. For the average student its up to his or her parents to keep them in check. But for athletes, football and basketball especially, the athletic department – coaches in particular, have to take some responsibility for these kids.
Sure, some are bad news, don’t know how to act and need to go, but most are just high spirited kids, turned loose in an environment full of trouble and temptation and they need a hand on their shoulder and a coach who will put the fear of God in them until they can do some growing up.

Don’t worry about these players being kicked off the team. It provides an excellent alibi for CMR and the toothless, bib overall wearing dawg nation to explain why UGA finishes out of the top 20 and settles for the Weed Eater Bowl again. What a bunch of morons.

Nope. Saban signed 25 last year so right there you are full of it. The only players Saban kicks off the team are the ones that are discipline problems or simply refuse to go to class or get in trouble with the law. Can you prove he kicks players off for specious reasons? Nope. You can’t. So STFU clown. Medical redshirts? But of course. You know better than team surgeons and other doctors. First all all, Tech does have these problems…don’t kid yourselves. Secondly, the athletes at Tech, who are not trouble makers, were former 1 or 2 star players who were not offerred by any other Div. I school. They are so excited to be playing on a Div. I team that they behave for the most part. They don’t want to blow their chance. So, I guess there are advantages to subpar recruiting.

TDF,

OH. I almost forgot. Since you said Saban signs 27-30 players EVERY year I’ll also let you know that we took 26 yesterday which is below your BS number. And one of them will back count towards last years numbers which is of course within the rules so the reality is that we took 25 just like anyone else can for the 2012 class.

One other thing on oversigning clown. The last 2 years Bama has had 3 players go pro early. If you’re losing 3 players every year cause they are going pro then naturally you should oversign due to the success of the program. Duh!

At least come here with some knowledge of fact. Up until the 2010 season, UGA had finished in the Top 10 in the country over the last 10 years second only to Southern Cal. So my guess is (really not a guess) is we are still way up there. Care, also, to compare bowls? You win the “Pinhead” award so far today.
