ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.
The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.
“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education.”
Marshall’s high school coach, Mark Ledford, was reached by the AJC this morning.
“I don’t want to comment on what Nick did,” said Ledford, head football coach at Wilcox County High. “All I’ll say is I’ve been informed he is going to be released from UGA. As far as the details, I’d rather wait and see what Georgia is going to say officially.”
Marshall, a former AJC Super 11 player, was expected to play a significant role in Georgia’s secondary next season. He played sparingly as a cornerback and nickelback and extensively on special teams as a true freshman last season. A four-star prospect as a guard, he was also expected to join the Bulldogs’ basketball team at some point.
“There were going to be a lot of opportunities for him,” Ledford said. “It’s a shame he’s wasting those opportunities at Georgia. He’s going to have to accept the consequences and hopefully learn from them.”
Sanders, an all-state safety at Tucker, played in the first three games for Georgia before being sidelined with an injury the remainder of the season. He was expected to have four years remaining and contribute in the secondary.
Seay, who is from Leesburg, was redshirted last season, while Sanders, who is from Tucker, played in the first three games before missing the remainder of the season because of injury.

Its a shame, I hope they get their act together, they are still young and can bounce back. I’m just glad that Georgia didn’t try to hide it and took action.

gay bars open at 5 pm ? how do you know that ? i’ve never heard that. and so what if they do ? every poster you said was gone as a result, instantly, kept on posting. so if gay bars open at 5 pm, and they kept posting, what does that mean then ? i don’t know guys. you run in here with weak lists of those who you have no reply to on their points, and this is all you can offer up that what ? they’re gay ? is that supposed to be a put-down ? you are a better person than they because they are gay ? how do you calculate that ? why so up-tight about gays in the 1st place, never mind that all those you said were by your statment of 5 pm they open, posted on and after that. gay bars don’t have cell phone access ? takes at most about 2 minutes any cell phone to post to this blog. any cell phone. thought all bars also have wireless routers. do gay bars not have wireless access points ? buffalo WAP costs what ? $50 ? look, we have 26 run out of this program in the last 12 months, all 26 were given scholarships for 2012. we have a soft, easy schedule, of at most 1 team who ends the season in the top 25. then, we play whomever The SEC West puts up because of our schedule. SEC West is not going to be as strong as they were in 2011. They added TAMU. We added Mizzou, for this season anyway, until they move maybe Alabama and Auburn to the East, or Vandie to the West, or all the above and more after 2012. Saban is not Satan because he over-signs you say, while pardon me again, we only have 77 on Scholarship today. Fact. 77. Mark Richt gets 85, same as you only give Saban. Mark Richt signed 109. 109 – 84 = 24 over-signed by Mark Richt. And, he is still 8 under the 85-limit because he has run off 26 in the last 12 months as posted to this blog by name – all 26. Don’t give me this Richt does it the right way. How is it that Saban is lowlife for running off undesirables, but Mark Richt does it the right way, by running off 26 whom he did not desire here while keeping those he did want to keep here who include FAR WORSE TROUBLE MAKERS than the 26 run-off by Richt, yet those guys were all starters. These 3 never started. 2 of the 3 might never have. 1 was # 146 WR nearly 2-Star Recruit when Richt wasted his scholarship on him. What we have is bad press. So you call me whinning because I am tired of all this bad press. Excuse me, you are whinning because you have to find and excuse for this. I don’t. 26 run off in 12 months, names provided in these blog posts. I might not even have found all the 26 names run off who were supposed to be playing this season for us – 2012. I found 26 names for certain, didn’t I ? And, this is not over-signing ? This is not running off those who are undesirable ? And, those remaining ? Never again ? You told me this time last season, NEVER AGAIN. Bad Apples all gone, you guaranteed me. And, this is what we get the day after signing day. 3 more run off.
3
3 more
26 in a year run off by Mark Richt
109 signed vs 85-man limit
8 open slots
that’s 8 more walk-ons who never play offense or defense who get scholarships
right ?
You know I know Richt is going to hand out scholarships to walk-ons now
8 open scholarships.
What kind of crudola is all this ?
Just fess up that this ain’t good. That is not being whinny. That is being fact-based. Get over it. You cannot spin this as good. There is nothing good about it. And, Nick Marshall already was going to be the Starter against Mizzou and Buffalo bills because of Sanders Commings suspensions for those games at least, and the other ahead of Nick Marshall for Starting Left Cornerback was LAWRENCE Love born 12/31/1990, and he’s gone too. We’ll be fine. This is the only school where these 3 would have been kicked out, you say. Pardon me, that’s 26 kicked out and their list of what they have done is NOT GOOD. Neither, by the way, is the list of what those remaining have done either, although starters.
We give preferrential treatment to starters, and always have. These 3 were not starters. Neither was Zach Mettenberger. We run-off the undesirables, although in the viewpoint of the fans here online, a fair number of those might have been BETTER than the Favorites played as starter. And, the OL, good heavens the OL has lost the MOST of all the 26 players run-off, OL who were expected to be great here. Not needed then. Given no love. Gone now, and this is 2012 where the 26 would have made us so we are not 9 games in a row lost vs teams ending in the top 25 and where this season we might have a chance to do something about losing 7 games in a row vs teams who finished top 10. This is where we are. This is not good news. Good luck with your
EXCUSES
They don’t hold water.
This AIN’T GOOD.

What your URL Link to what Nick Saban is doing states he Won NC both on the field, and now in recruiting. It is an article about a player who has an injured knee. He was offered a scholarship at Alabama. He declined and took an offer from KY. We have had players here recruited, who got injured too, and every single time, even after the injury, the offer stood, never any waiver no matter how devastating the injury. None of those injured players yet have panned out for us, not once. We have 77 on Scholarship and Nick Saban has his filled. We have run-off MORE than Nick Saban. Nick Saban has coached in The SEC 1 year longer than Mark Richt. Nick Saban has a BETTER won/loss record than Mark Richt, with another year tacked on in addition to the 11 years Mark Richt has been here in The SEC. And, Nick Saban has three (3) National Championships on the field. His record last season against teams who finished in the top 5 of the AP Poll includes Two (2) Wins over teams finishing in the Top 5. We ended up # 13 compared to his # 1 in recruiting rankings, and we ended up # 19 AP Poll (20 Coaches’) compared to his 3rd Consensus National Title in his 3rd Consecutive BCS Title game appearance including 2 of the last 3 years, and now this recruiting class heaped upon that.
So, you run in here and list me at # 5 on your list (updated and asked for more input to move me down further on your list even then) because you know absolutely that you have said EVERY THOUGHT I’ve ever posted to this blog. You said everything I’ve said, every word of it. That’s why I am down at # 5 on your list of those whom you have no retort to the facts.
Just to clarify your positions on this latest BAD PRESS :
(1) AJ-C writes untruth
(2) Nick Saban over-signs Mark Richt 24 over-signs doesn’t
(3) Nick Saban is Satan
(4) Mark Richt does it the right way
(5) IC wouldn’t be guilty of drug abuse if it was legal
(6) legal prevents his guilty
(7) he is unfairly picked on for being an energy vampire
(8) $10 b will pay off 15 trillion debt easily
(9) you don’t do drugs but $10 b is great stuff
(10) drugs are not addictive
(11) drugs are not a major wrong with society today
(12) just legalize drugs, but hey you don’t do them
(13) take 5,000 generations pay off debt
(14) but legalize drugs, anyway, & you don’t do them
(15) Mark Richt has a LOT better won/loss since he got to SEC
(16) don’t count someone with less wins, although Saban MORE
(17) remove half the names of coaches
(18) coaches who make Richt # 22 Mark Richt era won/lost
(19) We’re just fine; We’ll be just fine.
(20) GOOD RIDDANCE to 3 more 26 last year now
(21) All bad apples gone this time last year you promised
(22) 77 Scholarships is smart of Mark Richt
(23) You wish he’d signed a few more OL disagreeing with yourself
(24) I don’t know what I am talking about; all you said disproved.
(25) 11 walk-ons last year none who played offense or defense
(26) 26 run off last 12 months now, Saban runs off undesirables

Richt should have suspended them all for a year instead. That way they could have stayed in school and no one else could recruit them. UGA’s depth at defensive back is gone. That is why it is important to sign 25 every year.

The Richt can do no wrong crowd is saying boys will be boys and Richt runs a tight program. In the first place, McGarrity has taken control of discipline issues because of Richt’s inability to do so. Secondly, any coach would have to remove players who were stealing from other players. Stealing from students would be winked at, but stealing from teammates would undercut team unity, even by Richt/Bowden/FSU standards. The timing of the announcement is interesting–two days after signing day. Richt is telling mamas and grandmamas what a Christian, family atmosphere their babies will experience under his moral guidance. Violence against women and locker room theft doesn’t exactly support Richt’s recruiting line. These incidents are clear evidence of why Richt will not win a conference or national championship. His teams consist of talented, undisciplined individuals. They will continue to choke against less talented, well coached and disciplined teams.

Well, Jeff, you’re an idiot. I’ll bet you weren’t on a athletic scholarship, or any kind of scholarship for that matter. Get real. You want to elevate individuals whose special talent is that they can run fast, jump high, or overpower people. Wow! Those are qualities of a great human being and something no one else can do. True, these flawed individuals might be able to do these things better than most and help you defeat a traditional rival, but get real, bad behavior is not what we want to reward, or excuse me, not what I want society to reward or for young kids to emulate. Maybe you should have been kicked out. Apparently your thinking skills did not improve from your college attendance. I hope these individuals end up living next to you. Football doesn’t need to be played by a bunch of undersocialized deviants for the game to be interesting. I’ll be even you can catch a football.

SI.com had a report on College football and crime.
A six-month SI/CBS News investigation ran criminal background checks on Top 25
Of 2,837 players, 7% had criminal records; 8.1% of scholarship players in trouble
Only two of Top 25 schools did background checks; none checked juvenile records

The NCAA Nazi machine has caused this to happen. They have clamped down so hard on recruiting that no coach can now truly get to know the individuals they are marrying for the next 5 years. It has become a crap shoot because of the stupid NCAA & their attempts to level the playing field so the have-nots will have a chance to recruit with the big boys. These questionable character guys would have gone to a lesser division in the past because the division 1 coaches would have been able to see through the disguises of these guys and walked away.
Now, with the new recruiting rules in place, you have to bring them in and live with them for a year before you truly see what kind of individual they really are. Like Nancy Pelosi said “You have to vote for it before you can see what’s in it”. I hate liberals…

This quite simply is why UGA will NEVER win a National Championship under Mark Richt. Saban or Miles would still have these extremely talented young men on the team, after some closed door discipline that would likely have included lots of running steps and community service. They understand the TALENT these young men possess, and also understand they are just that…Very Young Guys, who are prone to stupid decisions and will make mistakes throughout there lives. One mess up is not enough to warrant extinguishing their entire football careers at UGA. However, Mark Richt doesnt feel this way, and thus WONT win championships…Les Miles rode Jordan Jefferson to the the BCS championship game, Auburn rode Cam Newton to the BCS championship, Saban has ridden 90% of his roster of young men who have made a mistake to multiple championships. Dont forget Mettenberger, who wasnt morally acceptable to Richt after a single incident in a bar, will likely lead LSU this year to another SEC championship. I for one, am sick of Mark “the preacher” Richt and his refusal to value winning National Championships (what he is paid millions for) over “being a good guy”. Sickening and VERY disturbing….enjoy another 9-5 season bulldog Nation, courtesy of Mark Richt…

Of course kids come from different backgrounds and some are not taught right from wrong, but you don’t put them on campus and come up with a bunch of whiny sociobabble as a rationale for keeping them there because they can run fast or catch a football. If you want to help these kinds of kids, kick them off immediately after the FIRST infraction of a rule which breaks the law. This will send them a very important message that they have to accept responsibility for their antisocial behavior which will not be excused because they are “athletes” and “special”. More importantly, it will help younger kids who have a chance to learn at an earlier age that behavior counts and the road to success is learning how to comply with community rules. I love athletics but I’m sick of seeing the sickos we have made millionaires because they can run or jump. If you want to teach them right from wrong and give them another chance, then let them move in with you and you can re-parent them, or let them shack up with your daughter and she can teach them what you believe in unless you are a brain dead idiot who cares for nothing other than football and winning at any cost.

Kudos to CMR!!!! He has the courage to do what most coaches will not. Winning is important, but not at the expense of sacrificing character & integrity to those kids who DO make the decision to things the right way. Meyer had 30 arrests is 3 years at Florida without a single dismissal!!! One kid even threaten to kill his girlfriend via text!!!!!
And to all those self-righteous GT fans who troll our blogs and make pithy comments… the last time GT was relevant on the national stage (early 90’s), you too had similar issues (players beating up girlfriends, players stealing books, etc.). Most programs have these issues. Unfortunately, it is a NCAA issue, not a particular school issue. If SEC commissioner Slive would do what he suggested by increasing the academic standards for ALL SEC schools, you would see less of this behavior. You would also see less SEC dominance relative to national championships.
