3 players dismissed by Georgia for team rules violations
ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.
The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.
“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education.”
Marshall’s high school coach, Mark Ledford, was reached by the AJC this morning.
“I don’t want to comment on what Nick did,” said Ledford, head football coach at Wilcox County High. “All I’ll say is I’ve been informed he is going to be released from UGA. As far as the details, I’d rather wait and see what Georgia is going to say officially.”
Marshall, a former AJC Super 11 player, was expected to play a significant role in Georgia’s secondary next season. He played sparingly as a cornerback and nickelback and extensively on special teams as a true freshman last season. A four-star prospect as a guard, he was also expected to join the Bulldogs’ basketball team at some point.
“There were going to be a lot of opportunities for him,” Ledford said. “It’s a shame he’s wasting those opportunities at Georgia. He’s going to have to accept the consequences and hopefully learn from them.”
Sanders, an all-state safety at Tucker, played in the first three games for Georgia before being sidelined with an injury the remainder of the season. He was expected to have four years remaining and contribute in the secondary.
Seay, who is from Leesburg, was redshirted last season, while Sanders, who is from Tucker, played in the first three games before missing the remainder of the season because of injury.

Thanks B-Dawg — I had no idea UGA fans don’t like me. Perhaps, you should know that the AJC is not the personal newspaper for UGA. I see many Dawg fans on here that would concur with that. Alabama fans are nation-wide sir. We live every-where — think NY Yankees, GB Packers, Notre Dame..etc
I can have a debate with any one from any school about any topic — college football or whatever.
I always start my blogging on the ajc in a respectful manner. Does it always stay that way? NO.
I can assure you sir, there is far more hatred from UGA fans towards Alabama than the other way around. As I stated earlier, which has been echoed on here today several times — Bama & UGA are not even rivals as far as I’m concerned. Never have been – never will be.

UGA is probably the only school in the SEC where these levels of infractions would result in a dismissal from the team. Richt doesn’t play around. We all saw what a few prima donnas and trouble makers can do to a team a few years ago – good luck to the young men wherever they go – I hope they learn from the experience. We don’t need the bad press from players who cannot exercise good judgement..

If what is said is true, then this was the correct and fair thing to do. Other players on the team are doing the right thing and I don’t care what star these guys have beside their name, they have to go elsewhere!
I wish them the best and hopefully they will get another opportunity- but not at Georgia. The standard has been set and they obviously didn’t care that their actions. If true, it is not only harmful to them, but their teammates , the coaching staff, the University , the fans, and their family. It is just not right for young men with so much talent to do something illegal or stupid and throw everything away. It does not make sense on many levels.
I am glad that the Georgia coaches and Coach Richt are “laying the hammer down” that this type of conduct will not be tolerated. Unlike some programs??
As far as negative comments about Georgia, at least Georgia doesn’t promise and then renege on a player’s scholarship offer or take someone from another school who has committed serious infraction !
Stay above the fray Georgia and do what’s right. To all the players who are doing the right thing-thanks, and it speaks volumes about your character and commitment to be a high caliber player.
Again, to these players I feel sorry for you but agree with Coach Richt. I hope you understand the seriousness of being kiccked off a football team and if you get another chance, do things the correct and admirable way!.
