3 players dismissed by Georgia for team rules violations
ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.
The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.
“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education.”
Marshall’s high school coach, Mark Ledford, was reached by the AJC this morning.
“I don’t want to comment on what Nick did,” said Ledford, head football coach at Wilcox County High. “All I’ll say is I’ve been informed he is going to be released from UGA. As far as the details, I’d rather wait and see what Georgia is going to say officially.”
Marshall, a former AJC Super 11 player, was expected to play a significant role in Georgia’s secondary next season. He played sparingly as a cornerback and nickelback and extensively on special teams as a true freshman last season. A four-star prospect as a guard, he was also expected to join the Bulldogs’ basketball team at some point.
“There were going to be a lot of opportunities for him,” Ledford said. “It’s a shame he’s wasting those opportunities at Georgia. He’s going to have to accept the consequences and hopefully learn from them.”
Sanders, an all-state safety at Tucker, played in the first three games for Georgia before being sidelined with an injury the remainder of the season. He was expected to have four years remaining and contribute in the secondary.
Seay, who is from Leesburg, was redshirted last season, while Sanders, who is from Tucker, played in the first three games before missing the remainder of the season because of injury.

Why can’t the newspaper go under the freedom of information act and print what these 3 punks did. Lord know how many mom’s and dad’s are paying for their children to attend college. I am sure that these 3 had all of their college paid for all due to playing football. GLad to see them go Georgia doesn’t need punks like these playing football not just at Georgia but, any college.

I feel that this is too harsh.He should have made them payback the money in two weeks and miss 3 games.I can understand if the players raped a girl,not saying no names, LSU.But kids are going to mess up.That is how they learn to be better people.I always have respected CMR but to flush a possible NC down the toliet is just krazy.

Stealing from teammates big no no and they got what they deserved same with Mett. Sanders didnt punch the girl, didnt slap the girl. He was in a bad situation and tried to leave. She wouldnt let him and kept getting in his face. He pushed her away and walked away. I see no problem in that accept dont touch the girl, juke her out and get out of there. Drinking was invloved and im sure neither one was pleased with the way they acted.
Get off the checked box crap too, that box said 1-5 and it was the first time or else soemone would have found the other incidents by now and made a bigger story of it. why do you htink it got shut down so quickly here???

Filters. And bc there really is nothing to critize about it. We put all our focus on a few guysa at the end that hurt us, but they didnt want to go with plan B guys this year, bc next years talent pool will be the best its been in decades in this state. We will sign 5 top OL most from GA alone. already have the number 1 QB and RB. The number 1 OL wants to play with henry so count him in too.
2013 recruits are insanely good. Especially O line and def which we will need bad next year.

Jenkins came to us bc of things like oversigning. Thats why Brandon Greene and Geno stayed in touch with UGA bc they didnt want to get a grey shirt.

you wonder what is in these kid’s mind?. i mean you are getting an education, room and board, all sorts of perks and the adulation of the community. all you have to do is keep your nose clean, go to class and make preparations for your future. i hope it was nothing serious and wish them the best of luck in finding other opportunities, but i also wish this would have been a learning experience.

Just look at what has happened at Georgia the last couple years after swift punishment and or dismissal…………….Say what you will, but these things happen with teenagers, and swift severe punishment seems to be the answer………….Don’t get me wrong, I feel bad for these kids, but in the long run, by cutting them loose now……….you just watch, it’ll make the Georgia Bulldogs that much stronger and play with that much more resolve………of that I’m sure…………………RED

Over-signing is a ploy by the Big 10 conference to level the playing field with the SEC.
I visited the site recently — after puking my guts out over the Notre Dame gushing, it clearly occurred to me this site is nothing but the old school mid-western big 10 elites consolidating themselves over the SEC’s recent dominance(in particular the SEC vs the Big 10 in the BIG game).
Amazingly, according to the site — everyone in the SEC cheats, while the consistent model of college athletics is, of course, Notre Dame & the Big 10.
NICE sleeping partner UGA. just b/c y’all can’t beat the Big 10, doesn’t mean the rest of US can’t!
…and guess what people in BIG 10 country think of Georgians??? red-necks would be a nice term!

Let me guess… The 3 all came out and blamed it on their upbringing, having grown up in poor families blah blah blah. These broke the rules and you are letting the team and about 50% (May be a bit of an overstatement) of the people who live in this state down. Time to grow up. Glad they are being held responsible, but wish UGA had never signed them. Marshall could have been a great player for the team.
