UGA freshman Keith Marshall challenges veteran Malcolm Mitchell to a foot race and . . .

So those of you who are pretty wired in via Twitter and Facebook have probably already seen the video of new Georgia tailback Keith Marshall racing rising sophomore wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell on Woodruff Practice Fields recently. If you missed it, I’m happy to provide it HERE.

Marshall

Marshall

First, a little background. Apparently this was the third time these two young football stars raced in a 40-yard dash. The first time, Mitchell reportedly won and quarterback Aaron Murray didn’t get to see it and he complained about it. So they did it again the other day, with Murray shooting video and wide receiver Chris Conley providing color commentary.

Spoiler alert: Marshall, who supposedly came to Georgia with a 4.3-second 40-yard time (and similar GPA), wins the last two races by an eyelash. But I would suspect Bulldogs’ fans are more intrigued just by the fact Marshall was willing to compete against one of the teams’ established stars. Says a little something about his competitive nature, I’d say.

Mitchell, of course, emerged as one of the Bulldogs’ most explosive offensive threats as a true freshman this past season and finished as the Bulldogs’ second-leading receiver with 45 catches for 665 yards despite missing three games due to injury. Marshall is a 5-star prospect and the No. 1-rated running back in America, according to Scout.com. He enrolled early at UGA.

Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there for any of you folks who might have missed it. Besides, considering Mitchell’s problems with a hamstring injury last season, I suspect the coaches have seen this and already shut down the race track. I’m just guessing but, as Apollo Creed said in the first Rocky, “ain’t gonna be no rematch.”

Too bad NCs aren’t decided by a foot race. We might actually be able to compete for one.

So sad to see that 4.3 talent get wasted by poor coaching at UGA. UGA coaches got the poorest coaching rating of all bowl teams. Extensions for everyone please!!

Glad to see UGA is loading up at RB when their OL and DL need help.

Looks like Marshall isn’t going to back off of a challenge for sure. He will fit right in and contribute with these young stars on the UGA defense. Imagine getting loose on the football field with that kind of speed. Can you see future all American here. This young man will be a good competitor and sadly, might have to be a model for I. Crowell to emulate. I think with the RB’s UGA has this year, UGA can be a very solid running team. We do need to have our OL improve this year, but I think they will.

I guess he will have to break some tackles to use that speed as Bobo likes to run the fast guys up the middle for some reason. Please, please, please try and get this kid into some space with toss sweeps, screens and if you have to run up the middle, then do it on a draw!

Keith Marshall is UGA’s and Mark Richt’s return to the top. A decade since Mark Richt went through the season with no more than 1 loss. 11 other SEC teams have accomplished complete seasons since of no more than 1 loss. 13-1.

…there is no way he makes any kind of impact in a Bobo called offensive game plan – now if they use him and Gurley as “Thunder and Lightnin”, then maybe he will have a chance, but until we acutally see BooBoo trying to get him the ball OUTSIDE the tackles then he is just another Carlton Thomas…

The success of Murray, the running backs, and Bobo’s offense is going to depend on our good “Friend’s” ability to put together a good offensive line.

Don’t you think the O-line will be more athletic?

Anderson had zero lateral movement and that is why I think we didn’t run more toss sweeps.

Plus, we have more guys to rotate in don’t we?

The kicker is we are VERY young.

UGA haters ought to not blog with their hate ……………… if they hate UGA ……………why bother? Is that all that you have to do? I mean, take Tech, I refuse to go to their home games, when family contacts can provide the absolutely best seats in the house ……………I am a Bulldog and could care less. Prefer to listen to UGA games on WSB or TV, rather than endure a Tech game on the 50 yd line.

Why blog and blog on UGA or CMR ………….if you hate them? No life??

I like the idea of moving R.Samuel to fullback. He’s a good blocker, and with his experience carrying the ball, maybe we can let the fullback run it, at least enough to keep the opposing “D” honest.

Complaining about getting the ball outside? Other than teams that run some sort of option attack occasionally, how many teams have their running backs actually run the toss sweep anymore against SEC defenses? They are too fast, it doesn’t work.

There is no doubt that Malcolm Mitchell has an after-burner. We’ve seen it when he goes up against speed. He kicks it in. He is absolutely wonderful. Whatever AJ Green did not do, Malcolm Mitchell will do. Whatever AJ Green did do, Malcolm Mitchell will not do any of that to us either.

I love Malcolm Mitchell; and, what this means for Bryan McClendon and Mark Richt to enroll our Captain and Leader on the field and off, Keith Marshall is that with our

is that we go 13-1.

Our starting O-line should be:

LT: John Theus
LG: Chester Brown
C: David Andrews
RG: Kenarious Gates
RT: Watts Dantzler

I know, I know this line is young and will take a whipping on some Saturdays but as they continue to grow, by their junior seasons we’ll have them dominant. I think Theus can man the LT position right away. Sort of like Trinton Sturdivant did in 07 when he was a Freshman All-American at left tackle.

Watched Malcomn Mitchell his senior year at VHS.
He does have an afterburner, runs about a 4.3, but
that is without anyone chasing him. He could probably
squeeze out a 4.2 or 4.1 if he had someone chasing him.
Need to line him up in the Wildcat occasionally like Hines Ward.

We know two our of O-line and that’s Andrews at center and Dantzler [6'7, 330] at right tackle. I just hope Andrews is as fiery as Ben Jones. I highly doubt it though. Our O-line could take a step back in 2012 I’m afraid. It’ll take some getting used to without All-SEC performers Cordy Glenn and Ben Jones.
