UGA freshman Keith Marshall challenges veteran Malcolm Mitchell to a foot race and . . .

So those of you who are pretty wired in via Twitter and Facebook have probably already seen the video of new Georgia tailback Keith Marshall racing rising sophomore wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell on Woodruff Practice Fields recently. If you missed it, I’m happy to provide it HERE.

Marshall

Marshall

First, a little background. Apparently this was the third time these two young football stars raced in a 40-yard dash. The first time, Mitchell reportedly won and quarterback Aaron Murray didn’t get to see it and he complained about it. So they did it again the other day, with Murray shooting video and wide receiver Chris Conley providing color commentary.

Spoiler alert: Marshall, who supposedly came to Georgia with a 4.3-second 40-yard time (and similar GPA), wins the last two races by an eyelash. But I would suspect Bulldogs’ fans are more intrigued just by the fact Marshall was willing to compete against one of the teams’ established stars. Says a little something about his competitive nature, I’d say.

Mitchell, of course, emerged as one of the Bulldogs’ most explosive offensive threats as a true freshman this past season and finished as the Bulldogs’ second-leading receiver with 45 catches for 665 yards despite missing three games due to injury. Marshall is a 5-star prospect and the No. 1-rated running back in America, according to Scout.com. He enrolled early at UGA.

Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there for any of you folks who might have missed it. Besides, considering Mitchell’s problems with a hamstring injury last season, I suspect the coaches have seen this and already shut down the race track. I’m just guessing but, as Apollo Creed said in the first Rocky, “ain’t gonna be no rematch.”

There is a rising Sophomore RB at Columbia High School named Antonio Manson who would have been right there with them and might have out run both of them. I have emailed Coach Richt to put this kid on his radar before the other schools find out about him. He is the real deal and with a little more beefing up…wow!

The reason Crowell wasn’t in the race is because he was at the finish-line holding the Joint they were racing for.

See Big Game! UGA is becoming a dynasty! They have made the moves to make a Championship possible! Between Joe T and Grantham…We will have a top 5 defense in the country next year with a junior quarterback on the early Heisman watch who has a ton of weapons! Our defensive line is going to be dominant! Keep doubting us Big Game….We will be top Dawgs for a while!

I just love the haters that are on this blog every day, just think about it, that shows how much interest there is in UGA. The others are always trying to tear us down. Just think about it, when was the last time you looked at the Florida Times Union to see what is going on with the gayters or looked at what is going on with the nerds by looking at the AJC Tech page. NEVER, you dont care if you are a Dawg fan. They sure care about us.

Well said. All of the trolls should be worn as a badge of honor.

Not alot of people on the Vandy page talking smack.

If the trolls are here it means we are doing something right.

What’s funny is that everyone is trying to question Crowell’s heart and ability. Adrian Peterson could not have run for 1000 yards behind that o-line and with that play calling. CMR is probably the 6th best coach in the sec. What did UGA do in every big game this year. They folded. It wasn’t just on this RB it was on the coaches and the Qb, who also padded his stats against weak competition. IC was hurt and tried to play through it. I guess he wasn’t tough enough for some uga fans, who probably get hurt playing couch football. How many games would uga have won without IC.

Not to put too fine a point on it but why isn’t there any articles on the basketball team right now? Not that I don’t love football, I can’t get enough of it – but it doesn’t seem like Mark Fox is getting it done on the recruiting trail….and we’re not reading a thing about basketball on this UGA blog…strange…

I applaud IC for trying to suck it up and play in the SEC Title game when it was obvious that he was doing it on one leg. That showed some heart to me. The kid will come back next year more mature after a year in school, bigger and stronger than he was after an off season in the S&C program. He rushed for 847 yards in 9 games ( two of which he didn’t play the whole game) Imagine what he is going to do physically better and knowing the offense better.

So predictable guys… National Championships, SEC champions, SEC East champions. LMAO! Until we get a coaching staff to coach these super-star recruits (take a look at all the UGA non-championship players playing on Sunday) it’ll be more of the same bs. The average UGA fan will delight in a 10-4 season with victories over teams with losing records and losses to the only teams we play who finish with winning records! Look it up guys!
I am a UGA gad and a proud Dawg but I am sick of mediocrity. For example, the only was we beat a sub-par Gator team in ‘11 was Brantley played on 1 1/2 legs. I was there and watched as he nearly pulled it off. And our QB had no health issues. Please keep on blogging… I love to laugh!

I can't believe Aaron Murray BLEW THAT GAME to go to 0-9 vs teams ending top 25. 3 sacks, fumble, 2 interceptions, 9 rushes minus 14 yards, 1 reception blocked pass minus 3 yards - all with 16 point lead.

“One would think they could beat a ranked team with all that talent.”
______________________________________________________
No. Not in years and years. To beat a ranked team, we need a quarterback who will get snaps in the NFL, not the 1 we have who in 27 games :
-56 sacks
-22 interceptions
-21 fumbles
-7 carries a game at 1 yard per carry
-41 percent of his starts, lost
-tweets to opponents pre-game how going to beat them
-puts name to NFL Advisory Committee
-is puny
-cannot read defenses yet 4th year here
-poor in going through progressions
-cannot see over line
-holds ball too long
-tries to do too much himself
-poor leadership on and off field
-happy feet
-poor footwork
-stares down receivers
-throws behind receivers
-over-throws receivers
-doesn’t want throw incomplete, takes sack
-bad enough completion percentage now
-almost Tim Tebow completion percentage
-11 losses 27 starts
-0 and 9 vs teams finishing top 25
-lost 2 more who didn’t finish top 25
-lost 9 games in 2 seasons so far
-has 9 Seniors Starting on Defense 2012
-can rely on them
-Brandon Boykin told him relying on D to bail him out
-Mark Richt settles for field goals
-best player on USCe team this season
-Reggie Ball ? USCe has Aaron Murray
-best player on Michigan State team
-caught blocked pass minus 3 yards
-3 sacks
-fumble that started the loss ahead 16-0
-2 interceptions
-did all that in just last game & didn’t get yanked

Bigger Game,

Dude, you need to slow your role with that dynasty talk. Georgia hasn’t won a dang thing yet, and it’s the delusional ones like yourself that keep talking this crap and giving the entire fan base a bad name with these titles you throw out there. USC is the only team in recent memory that ALMOST holds a dynasty tag, but then yet, they cheated by paying athletes. Georgia has a LONG ways to go before even mentioning talk, so let’s start with an SEC title, and try to get that National Championship that we haven’t been able to win in many years. We have a great opportunity and great athletes, but calm down on the Herschel comparisons and claiming the National Title every pre-season. In the meantime, Go Dawgs!

Everything I read is about our player’s being encouraged to compete with each other. I have always felt competition will make everybody better. With Gurley and Marshall on campus Crowell will get serious about going to Strength and conditioning everyday because Marshall will be there this spring and Gurley will be there everyday when he arrives in the summer.
The offensive line will be the same, to see who play’s but the only position that I want completely opened up for competition is QUARTERBACK. Now before you Murray fan have an issue with that I’m not saying I don’t want Murray as our leader but in 2 year’s he has always choked in the big games and HIS mistakes lost about half of those game’s. With competition it will make Murray a lot better. Example is when he takes off and run’s and need’s 9 yard’s for a first down but it is obvious he only can get 6 yard’s , Is it better to slide and get the 6 yard’s or get hit real hard, probably fumbling the ball and try to get the last three yard’s. A TRUE LEADER WOULD SLIDE IN WITH 6 YARD’S AND KICK ON FOURTH DOWN AND LET THE DEFENSE TAKE OVER.

KerryB, it’s the fanatics like you that look so bad. No we don’t choose who we play but don’t go thinking the the Dawgs had a good team. We didn’t beat anyone with a winning record! It’s that simple. If we were a good team…. well ask the LSU players. Year after year people here attack the likes of the Boise States, the Cala, the Fresno States with “Who did they play? What’s the strength of schedule”! Well it goes both ways. When we are winning against teams like Alabama, LSU, Arkansas and…. SC with any consistancy THEN lets talk “elite” and “UGA” in the same sentence.

I’m counting on Lemay getting playing time in 2012.

The thing with Murray is a double edged sword.

He blew the SC game with mistakes
He started the implosion versus LSU
He started the implosion versus MSU

He did lead us to the comeback versus florida which despite their mediocre record, is still a mental hurdle that he helped overcome.

The only way he gets rid of this label is to beat a really good team. But if he is not capable of doing so, do you play Lemay just because you think Murray will lose it again?

My solution is to platoon them.

Bama won the BCS title game by breaking tendencies. They threw and threw and threw to set up the run.

Miles should have done the same thing. Instead he ran the freaking option.

Richt needs to play these 2 QB’s equal reps early on to determine which of them is more clutch.

My $.02
