So those of you who are pretty wired in via Twitter and Facebook have probably already seen the video of new Georgia tailback Keith Marshall racing rising sophomore wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell on Woodruff Practice Fields recently. If you missed it, I’m happy to provide it HERE.

Marshall
First, a little background. Apparently this was the third time these two young football stars raced in a 40-yard dash. The first time, Mitchell reportedly won and quarterback Aaron Murray didn’t get to see it and he complained about it. So they did it again the other day, with Murray shooting video and wide receiver Chris Conley providing color commentary.
Spoiler alert: Marshall, who supposedly came to Georgia with a 4.3-second 40-yard time (and similar GPA), wins the last two races by an eyelash. But I would suspect Bulldogs’ fans are more intrigued just by the fact Marshall was willing to compete against one of the teams’ established stars. Says a little something about his competitive nature, I’d say.
Mitchell, of course, emerged as one of the Bulldogs’ most explosive offensive threats as a true freshman this past season and finished as the Bulldogs’ second-leading receiver with 45 catches for 665 yards despite missing three games due to injury. Marshall is a 5-star prospect and the No. 1-rated running back in America, according to Scout.com. He enrolled early at UGA.
Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there for any of you folks who might have missed it. Besides, considering Mitchell’s problems with a hamstring injury last season, I suspect the coaches have seen this and already shut down the race track. I’m just guessing but, as Apollo Creed said in the first Rocky, “ain’t gonna be no rematch.”

Uh, wrong again. He tweeted it and then said it at the presser.
And you have no idea if what he said was the truth or not. What players and coaches say to the media and what is really going on can be two very different things.

If Crowell is the best they have in 2012 then they need to fire whoever is recruiting RB’s.

Eisendawg Yes, after METT was sent packing it seems that Richt & Bobo made the Arranged Marriage between 3/4 Murray and the starting QB job. Nobody can divorce that right now unless it is injury.
BRAINIAC Have you seen how EASY the Dwags schedule is? LeMay should get playing time in almost every game. Well. unless 3/4 Murray is still himself with the INTs & TO’s keeping it close.

I pulled a hammy just reading the article. Dang fast dudes we have on the team. I agree with SteveDFWdog though, what the hell good does it do us if we keep running them up the middle and off tackle. MSU’s DL was one of the best anybody could of faced last year. Too bad Bobo didn’t have a better answer for them or we would have had a first down or two with that 3-1/2 minutes to go. Or we might have even gotten a first down in OT when we needed it to win the game.

Murray will have to do a lot of improving and hav a whole lot better help from the OL and RB’s to turn pro in 2013. Another thing against him is his height – about 6′-6′1″ at best.

I don’t think Crowell had enough time for his ankle to heal and he kept trying to go, when he should have been kept on the side lines. When you have a 325 pound man roll over on your ankle, it take more than a week, before you can get back up to speed. Crowell will be just fine if he matures a little more and becomes more of a team player. He has all of the skills you could want and with three running backs like we have, he can share duties with the others and not have to take on responsibility all by himself to make plays in the backfield.

No doubt Isaiah Crowell will shine bright next season. The guy ran the ball as a true freshman in the toughest conference in the land and finished with over 800 yards. He was held out a game for conduct and missed various portions of other games with injuries. Again, he competed in the best conference in the land and racked up over 800 yards right out of high school. Run Isaiah run and run the Dogs to a NC.

Lemay will get quality PT barring early season injury to himself. Murray will be hard pressed to play 100% of the games, as the younger men will look to see what type of qualities both will exhibit while under center in practice and then respond in games.
Lemay is a can do it all QB with outside speed and a great arm and frankly, very similar to DJ Shockley who should have played far more than he did while an inderclassman.
Murray is not more than 52% popular with UGA’s fans and this 2012 year, his bone headed throws and fumbles for quick 6 pics and his horrible decsions while under pass rush pressure will cause major rumblings with the alumni. We are sick of his emotional chokes and game day pics.
Time will tell.

Old Dawg,
I am going to assume you are old like I am, but even you should be able to realize that in all likelihood, Crowell wasn’t mentally or physically to play with the load put on him last year. You are condemning the kid before he is even a sophomore. I think the kid will come around this year and be a valuable asset. If he isn’t you can always come onto a blog and tell me, you said so. Until then, I think the kid deserves a chance at redemption.

Love the competition from the youngsters. Both will eventually make the other better and want to work harder to be the best. This is exactly what the Dawgs needed instead of a Me Me Me individual who wants the spotlight over the team. I am looking forward to getting my first set of season tickets ever, even though the schedule is soft, but nonetheless have the opportunity to see every home game in Athens in the Fall. Keep it up boys and get in the weight room and pack on the muscle!

Just think about it, when was the last time you looked at the Florida Times Union to see what is going on with the gayters or looked at what is going on with the nerds by looking at the AJC Tech page. NEVER, you dont care if you are a Dawg fan. They sure care about us.

RedandBlackDAWG,
I hear you, and you’re right….I’m one of the oldsters! I ain’t condemning him, but he made it a point to show ALL the bad-character issues at once….he quit long before the ankle! Many of his yards were against not-good teams, and he patted his head faster than Marshall’s and Mitchell’s feet hit the ground in their race. I actually wish him well, but its hard to see him out-doing this year because I don’t think the foundation is there……..I may be wrong, but when you and I were there, yes folks made mistakes but a smart-*ss quitter would have BEEN gone, whether the potential was there or not!
