Grantham shoots down rumors, wants to ‘be at UGA a very long time’

It’s that time of year where rumors swirl constantly regarding coaching jobs and transfers and the like. On cue, no sooner had Brian VanGorder left the Atlanta Falcons to take the defensive coordinator’s job at Auburn this week than rumors began to circulate that the Falcons may come after Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

Kind of funny when you think about it, especially with all the arguments that developed this season between Bulldogs’ fans about which DC was better at UGA, VanGorder or Grantham.

Anyway, those rumors must have made their way to Grantham on Wednesday because the Bulldogs’ second-year coordinator issued a statement through the UGA athletic department reiterating that he isn’t looking to leave Georgia and/or return to the NFL. Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity confirmed to the AJC last week and again Wednesday that he and Grantham have already agreed in principle to a new three-year contract. They’re in the process of finalizing the paperwork, which may drag out another week or more. But it’s effectively a done deal and Grantham’s statement underscores as much.

Here’s what Grantham sent via email:

“This time of year there are a lot of rumors involving coaching openings. Because of the terrific recruiting class we are assembling and the juniors that have communicated to me their desire to come back to Georgia I felt it important to address some of these current and any future rumors. I’ve had discussions with Coach Richt and (AD) Greg McGarity and we are on track to finalizing details on a contract extension. My family enjoys Athens very much. I love the passion and excitement of our fans. We have the program headed in the right direction and I want to be a part of bringing Georgia a championship. My desire is to be at UGA for a very long time. Go Dawgs!”

I suppose you could split hairs about the semantics and, of course, some folks already are. But that seems pretty cut-and-dried to me.

Grantham — who exited the season as the nation’s second highest-paid defensive coordinator at $750,000 a year — led the Bulldogs’ defense to a No. 5 overall national ranking this past season. He has nine of 11 starters due to come back and is making some hay on the recruiting trail. Most recently he nailed down a commitment from defensive end/outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins, the state’s No. 1 prospect.

Most of the time these rumors are generated by opposing teams just trying to blunt recruiting momentum. Just to be certain, the sooner UGA gets Grantham’s contract finalized the better. With just one year left on the current deal, Grantham’s buyout is relatively miniscule. But the one included in the first year of a new three-year agreement will have considerably more bite to it.

In any case, McGarity doesn’t seem in a rush.

“We have talked about what we are going to do, so we are all on the same page,” he said.

That’s definitely a good thing for Georgia.

We are about to head into the Glory days again. I can feel it. Our team has that attitude, that swagger. Our defense is playing lights out. It’s gonna be just like the Erk Russell days again. He’s gonna have this defense bleeding from the mouth and wanting to attack every offense they face. This past season was only YEAR TWO. Just wait. It’s comin.

Doesn’t it seem like every offense we faced just couldn’t do anything against our defense? It seems that way. If we can just finish we’d have a dominant defense. Alabama style. Yes we can be that good. Why? Because of the coaching. We have the coaching in place on the defensive side that can give offenses nightmares. It’s the offense that troubles me.

Georgia has won more games Defensively than offensively. If the Offense had not put the Defense in so many situations of defending a short field the past two years the record would be much better. Todd Granthman brings more than knowledge on the Defensive side of the ball to the Dawg program. Pay him for his worth, and we better hope he stays. He is the only hope of getting to the next level.

To you GT fans, read it and weep. You’ll never beat us again. See now Grantham knows how to beat GT’s weak offense. Year 1, he had no clue, yeah you got your yards but we won. This past match we owned your offense. You could do almost nothing. Why? Because Grantham has figured you out. Seems like everybody figures Tech out at some point huh? 0-4 in your last 4 bowl games? Give any defensive coordinator ample time before they play Tech, and they’ll shut it down and beat you. Tech has no defense, and has a weak offense to boot.

Here’s to 11-1 vs. Tech since Richt has been here!!!!! Woooo hooo!

CTG has done an outstanding job and represents the “fire” in the UGA program. Electing to stay in the face of having to bail out the “2nd and 8 lets take a knee offense” shows his dedication to his players, as well as his belief that the offense will, somehow, complement his superior defense. As a UGA fan living in Florida, I hope CTG’s dedication serves as an example for his fellow coaches, his players and UGA fans everywhere.

CTG inherited most of his players from CWM and we know how that turned out in 2010. This year, after ONLY ONE YEAR OF COACHING THESE SAME KIDS, he turned out a high quality product, and we know that there is far more to come. LSU saw that in the first half of the SEC CG and we performed far better in the first half than did Alabama vs LSU BOTH TIMES.

He is a HIGH QUALITY D coach player now in the SEC and the HS coaches will be aware of that and will be far more comfortabl in steering their kids. Same is true of the kid’s uncles and men in their lives, like pastors, etc.

Good point @ His 2nd year it was….the first season we had Grantham (2010) he was dealing with Martinez recruits trying to transition from the 4-3 to the 3-4 and we still were respectable on defense in our 1st year under him. Now we’ve gone dominant. A few more years recruiting the type of bodies he wants (Linebackers weighing 250+ that can run) and corners that are 6′0+ that run in the 4.3’s-4.4’s. He needs to keep recruiting his body types. He’ll have a monster.

Hey Tide is Rolling, Why are you on a Georgia blog? Your team is a winner but you’re acting like a loser. You can’t just look at points given up in a game and put them on the defense. Are you that unintelligent when it comes to sport? You can go back and check the BOX SCORE of any of Georgia’s losses and see who gave up the points. Usually, it was special teams or the offense, not the defense. Boise St. did score on the D, but that was Game 1. Do some homework and don’t just check the score to make your conclusions. Or better yet, stop commenting on a Georgia blog because you obviously didn’t watch any Georgia games or you’d know better. At least, a smart person would.

D will be loaded next year and with the schedule, Dawgs will be in top 10 nationally defensively, thus Grantham value rises even more. McGarity is way of head of us on that, and he’ll have a stiff buyout clause in the deal in return for a nice fat raise. It’ll take 1 mil+ to hire him away after the new deal is inked I bet.

CTG wanting to stay at UGA a long time is great news. Now we need to get the offense going. A 10 – 4 season is a big improvement and it could easily have been 12 – 2. No way should we have lost to SC and to MS and who knows how it would have ended had the 2 sure TD passes not been dropped in the first half against LSU.Those 2 td passes would have given UGA a 21 – 0 halftime lead which surely would have made a big difference. Of course every team out there could come up with a number of it’s own “ifs”. Just pointing out how close we actually came and at least half our season happened without any semblance of a running game. Hopefully we can use another “soft” schedule to work our way into something great in the near future but no one knows if the “soft” schedule will really be soft because every team changes and usually comes up with a game or 2 where they “upset” the favored team. Other than the 2 dropped “sure td” passes @LSU the biggest problem I saw was our OL who had several pretty good games but almost got Murray killed in the bowl game. The performance of our OL and Murray holding his “bad” games to a minimum will determine how we perform in the 2012 season. Congratulations to CTG and may he continue to impress the college football world from Athens, Ga.

Your statement here is that Alabama didn’t beat any good teams, any tough teams. This is your statement.

________________________________________________________
In the same post you also say :

“10 wins is 10 wins, I don’t give a damn how you slice it. You play the game to win. You don’t play the game to see how many tough teams you can face in a row.”
________________________________________________________
(1) Which is it ? Alabama did NOT beat tough teams ?
(2) Georgia did beat which tough teams, oh yeah right two 8-5 not ranked teams as our best wins over tough teams.
(3) Were I you, which I clearly am not, I would not run in here in one post and say both points that Alabama did NOT beat tough teams (like we did) and in the same post, state that the measure for us doesn’t matter that any ole 10-Win season like 27 others all better than us with 4-Losses and beat no one, no matter what.

Pretty well tired of your crudola already Jerome. One day posting and you have stated that we will win the next BCS Title for The SEC. That Alabama did not play tough teams beating 2 teams everyone in the nation ranked in the top 5 this season. That it doesn’t matter who we play here at UGA, any 10-win season like the other 27 teams all with 10-wins this season too is great no matter if we didn’t beat any tough teams or not.

What is your team ?

Please don’t tell me this is how you think you Motivate our players and staff to beat a team finishing in the top 25 for the 1st time in 3 years, is to tell them that they will win the next BCS Title for The SEC, and to state outright that Alabama did not beat the tough teams while of course we did, and then say with only us, not Alabama, it doesn’t matter who we beat as long as we get to 10-Wins like the 27 teams who in fact did.

Jerome, you sure are drinking the kool aid. Tide is rolling is correct. You state all we need is to give up 20-25 points and we should win all our games? The problem is at the end of the games: 35 pts to Boise, 45 to USC, 42 to LSU, or 33 to MSU, these are real scores. UGA lost to every team they played which was ranked at the end of the year.

I do like CTG and hope he stays a long time, but UGA’s problems elsewhere are too big for his defense to overcome.

Saban Never Sleeps….Mizzou, TAM are not going to make your schedule tougher….trust me…Mizzou loses 12 seniors this year and TAM have proven that they can not beat SEC schools and were a mid-tier Big-12 team….LSU is a cyclic team, dependent upon how good their in-state allotment of players are in a given year….they will not always dominate…up and down, up and down….Hopefully, CMR has learned his lesson in letting top tier in-state talent leave…looks to be latching on to some of these kids in Georgia….the problem with UGA is not Bobo, even though his playcalling is questionable at times in the game….It is the fact that Richt treats special teams as an award to walk-ons and true freshmen….yes, they gain experience…but they also make crucial errors while gaining that experience….Look at Vtech, Florida, Bama, LSU….they have their starters on Special Teams….Look at UGA….there is a reason Kosta Vavlas led special teams in tackles this year…because Alec Ogletree, Bacarri Rambo, Shawn Williams, Cornelius Washington, Jarvis Jones, etc. didn’t participate in Special Teams enough….that needs to change….has to change…special teams alone cost UGA 2 games this year….Go Dawgs!!!!!!!!!!

It does nothing but show a looser’s mentality when one flatters themselves with the company they keep.

It would help in the 4th quarter if Bobo and Richt would not be conservative and run some creative plays…keep some drives alive to run out the clock…so as not to put the defense in game saving positions….mentality has to change on offense, even Nick Saben put LSU away with his offense this time, long drives in the second half and to end the game, and his defense is no doubt #1!

Just wondering why VanGorder moves around so much. He’ll do very well with the level of recruiting he’ll get at Auburn just as he did at UGA, so the war eagles are gonna be very good defensively. What’s intriguing is his resume’ the last 11 years. Athens to JAX, JAX to Statesboro, Statesboro to Columbia…no, changed my mind, ATL, ATL to Auburn. This looks more like a coach that gets fired a lot (or works under coaches that get fired a lot) rather than a coach that excels. Does he get bored with his location quickly or does he simply have loyalty issues? Makes you wonder. Don’t get used to having him around long Auburn fans. HA HA! Wouldn’t it be funny if he went to work for Petrino? LOL!

Defense is shaping up; I’d still like to see tackling improvement; and more tackles by DLs. We also need heftier middle LBs. Different approach is sorely needed for the rest of the team. OH; and the short field excuse – it’s still legal to prevent the other team from scoring; or hold them to a field goal.

What we also tend to forget, is during that first game against Boise St., on I believe the first defensive possession or the second OF THE GAME, we lost our starting (star player IMO) Linebacker Alec Ogletree, and he was replaced by a former WALK-ON (DGD!!!!) Mike Gilliard, who series, and then on. And I am NOT bashing this kid at all, because the loss was a team effort, but I remember after Ogltree went down, the announcers even qouted Richt about how we couldn’t afford to lose anyone in that position BEFORE the game, then it happened. Up to that point, we had gotten three and outs on Boise, but after that, they started systematically tearing us apart with those slants to the TE. I want to say I saw at least 5 straight.. Gilliard was thrown directly into the fire, and it showed, but then for the next five weeks, he filled in ADMIRABLY. Ogltree doesn’t go down, I honestly believe would have been undefeated going into to SECCG. Believe this, next year a single injury shouldn’t hurt us so much, because with our returning starters, our redshirts from last year, and our new top recruits that Grantham is going to land (not saying more, but Jordan J. is NOT the last big recruit for our defense this year!), we will be working on our TWO DEEP D, the kind that LSU and BAMA have. We have the talent. We have the coach. Hell, we even have the schedule. NOW is time to BELIEVE

How do you Motivate our Players and Coaches ? Tell them they're great ? Or, put EXCUSES aside and tell them what they actually are so they can work on it ?

Georgia Bulldogs 2011 season in review :
# 81 Turnovers Lost, Aaron Murray really the only culprit
# 94 Being Tackled for a Loss, Aaron Murray only culprit
# 85 Our QB being sacked, Aaron Murray not OL culprit
# 61 Red Zone Offense, AM & Off Coaching Staff culprit
# 48 Pass Offense, Aaron Murray great passer, really ?
# 62 Fumbles Lost, Aaron Murray main culprit again
# 42 in 1st Downs by Offense, Aaron Murray & play calling
# 68 in Penalties for us all season long, not disciplined
# 43 in 4th Down Conversions by Offense, play calling
# 42 in 3rd Down Conversions by Offense, play calling
# 86 in nation throwing interceptions, Aaron Murray only

# 88 defend Kick-Offs don’t hurt good players, walk-ons
# 65 Kick-Offs don’t hurt good players, walk-ons again
# 79 Net Punting don’t hurt good players, walk-ons
# 116 Net Punt Return Defense, walk-ons can’t tackle

This despite the facts that the Defense handed the football to the Offense all season long and despite the facts that the only teams we beat were teams who are not top 25 teams for the 2011 season. 74 teams have the opportunity to play 14-game seasons in 2012. 27 last season in 2011, ended up with 10-Win Seasons, and of those 27 teams, we had the most losses with 4. All this despite the fact that Mark Richt had The

Easiest Schedule of all The SEC Teams 2011
Easiest Schedule of all The SEC Teams 2012 too.

Do you think it is possible, just possible now, that you could look at the rankings of where we actually are for the 2011 season, and see any areas where the coaches and players could use some Motivation to Improve, or should we as a fanbase tell them they are great and have no pressure by the fanbase to improve in any of these areas ?

You’d have to be a Blind Homer to think that there is any summary of our Offense and Special Teams’ Play for the 2011 season, that surmises that we are great in any way, shape or manner on Special Teams or Offense.

Grantham is on record as saying that what he want’s is to be head coach some day of a great college team. I think he will be satisfied in Athens for the next 5 to 10 year’s. That will get his kid’s in college and by then will have enough success that he will get that head coaching job he want’s. Grantham already has the passion and knowledge to teach our defense to be dominate which is great new’s for us.
Grantham also get’s a great benefit, other than money , being at Georgia which is being influenced by Mark Richt concerning integrity, ethic’s , moral’s and other values that a lot of head coaches don’t have , the intangibles that Grantham will need to help him be able to coach and make college kid’s into men by the time they leave.

This is great news for the DAWG nation. The coach teaches these kids well, they like him and I am darn glad he brings fire to the game. These kids know their coach has got their back, and his intensity can’t help but rub off on the other coaches at UGA. Arthur Blank would be foolish to mess around with him, because he knows how DAWG fans would react, and then he would have trouble filling the stadium for home games. I read the ESPN article that states that Atlanta is already the worst city in terms of support for their professional teams, so he doesn’t need to alienate the fans even more. I am not surprised about Atlanta fans though, since they don’t even support their home town college team.
Coach Grantham will continue to coach at UGA for quite a while longer, and the UGA defense will be a work of beauty this fall. He has been getting the kids he needs through recruiting, they are motivated and he knows how to coach them up. Just think, in his second year at UGA, they finished in the top 5 in defense. Imagine what he will be able to do this year, with his returning troops, having had a year under him and the recruits UGA is getting on defense. If you are a true DAWG fan and not some troll making rude remarks on this blog, you have to feel pretty darn good about the defense UGA will have this year. Alabama showed once again that defense wins championships, and the DAWGS are capable of doing that as well, if our offense steps it up a little. The key to them being successful this year, is the OL being ready to go, the RB’s doing their job and cutting down on mistakes and the OC needs to stop calling a conservative game plan. If we can bury some of our opponents instead of expecting our D to preserve the game, we could give some serious nightmares to a lot of our opponents. If the offense plays consistently, there is no reason why we can’t bury more opponents like we did Auburn last year.

Reminder:

Grantham’s great defensive coordination against top 25 teams:

Lost to Boise State – they scored 35 points

Lost to South Carolina – they scored 45 points

Lost to LSU – they scored 42 points
(and I know, Georgia played great against LSU for 2 quarters. But ask yourself, how many points did
Bama’s defense allow LSU in 8 quarters……9 points….and 0 points in the NC game).

Lost to Michigan State – 33 points

Even Vandy score 28 points on his defense.

But I am sure, all the above points were caused by the poor play calling of Mike Bobo…..and had nothing to do with the great defensive play calling of Mr. Grantham. Yep….they looked great against the above top 25 teams…..and Bobo’s offense was directly responsible for that 38.75 point average against those 4 teams. FIRE BOBO.

I would not be so eager to crown Mr. Grantham as the next great DC…not yet. He does seem to be able to talk fishing with recruits very well, however.

Florida’s defense against top 25 teams:

An average of 30 points a game against top 25 teams.

A few facts about your UGA that you might consider:

1. UGA is the nation’s #1 party school. That means that UGA has the highest number of drunks on campus of all the colleges and universities in the U.S. These drunks keep the Athens-Clarke County jail full, and provide full employment to law enforcement personnel, bail bondsmen, and attorneys. Really something to be proud of, isn’t it.

2. UGA athletes are some of the most illiterate morons in the country. Most of them take remedial studies, which is the stuff that most kids learn by the seventh grade. But not your dummies, who you laughingly call student-athletes. The very few who actually graduate have worthless diplomas in worthless studies that no employer is looking for.

3. Even your fans are trashy, stupid drunks. Take a look at what your campus looks like after a home game, and check the number of DUIs the police issue between Athens and Atlanta after a game.

4. UGA athletes must think that ankle monitoring bracelets are bling, they see so many of them in the locker room.

A really miserable, sorry place, and a huge embarrassment to all Georgians.

How do you Motivate our Players and Coaches ? Tell them they're great ? Or, put EXCUSES aside and tell them what they actually are so they can work on it ?

Cut the “DC” pie anyway you like. Coach “TC” and Coach “BVG” are tops in their field, COACHING “D”. It will be fun to see two top “DC” going after each other. “TG” at UGA and “BVG” at Auburn. Coach “TG” is happy at UGA, not going anywhere. Coach “BVG” is looking for security at Auburn. He is like Coach “TG” he’s fed up with the poltics of the NFL. Good “DC” in collage ranks are hard to find and keep. SOOOOO if the $$$$$$$$ is right you will see both men after each other for a while, and I’m not sure either one is looking for a head job at this time. Coach “BVG” has already given it a try at Ga. Southern, lasted one year. Coach “TG” getting experence at the college level so if the right thing happens he coulf go but not right away.

Wow, if Aaron Murray is so bad thank goodness we had Joe Cox his freshman year to start so we could have an 8-5 record. So he went 6-7 as a red shirt freshman, we won 10 games with him this year. Oh yes since we were the worst 10 win team this year the only reason for the fourth loss was we played the NO.1 TEAM IN THE NATION AT THE TIME for the conference chamionship…One reason that we did not beat anyone in the top 11 is we did not play but four of them..Three were close games. If they are not on your schedule you cannot play them… From 6-7 as a starter to 16-11 is a fairly good improvement…Maybe it was the defense who knows…We were 10-4 and except not being prepared for the first game and not thinking they could beat SC the year turned our good.

GA was loaded on defense when Van Gorder arrived and he was a poor recruiter. Left the cubbard bare for Martinez. Changing the defense and recruiting shows how good TG is. I wonder if Bobo knows the technique to coach the QB to hit the ground on a run before he gets hit as the Alabama QB did Monday night. He slid five yards before the defender was even close. Murray has to be coached to get on the ground before he gets hit and fumbles the ball when he has to run. Was he coached to do so or just stubborn?

Is it coaching or lack thereof? Can Bobo coach QB’s or does he have to have stars like Greene, Shockley, or Stafford? Why are we in such dire situations with our qbs every year. Why have we lost them to other teams in the past. Why did he not coach up the likes of Cox, Tereshinski, Gray and others.

And yes, the D was ranked #5. But why does the Boise State argument over the high ranking not apply here? You know the old “They didn’t play anybody!”. Who has UGA beaten in the last 3 years that was ranked in the top 25? Let’s see… 15 games against ranked opponents and the Dawgs beat AU once and Tech twice! The “trademark victory” this past year was against…. Coastal Carolina! OMG the opponents are shaking in their cleats! And did the latest bowl fiasco have a 7-point lead, our opponent on its own 15, a minute and a half in the fourth quarter AND NO TIME OUTS and this mighty defense gave up the tying score?

BVG was a great DC at UGA. He should do well for Auburn and make them more competitive. All the more reason for us to continue to seek the kind of change at OC that we’ve had at DC.

Yes we’ve scored some points and won some games but you can’t tell me we are anywhere near as good on offense as we could be if we had the right OC.

Poor performance and turnovers on offense killed the defense momentum against Boise St, SC, LSU and MSU. I do not believe coach Dooley dawgs would of won the national championship in 1980 if his offense couldn’t move the football consistently and turn the ball over like Murray? I will be the first to admit that early on I did not think that Grantham was a good DC. I have had to eat my words now that he has time to get his “guys” and we all have seen a turn around in our defense. Heck I am starting to think he might just be better than BV. Now if only we could get rid of the clown that runs the offense what’s his name again??? BOBO the Clown!!!!

How do you Motivate our Players and Coaches ? Tell them they're great ? Or, put EXCUSES aside and tell them what they actually are so they can work on it ?

Just how exactly did you figure out that, Joe, sir ?

We lost to a South Carolina team we should have beat. We lost to a Boise State team, in a blow-out we should have beat. We lost to a Michigan State team we should have beat. And, we got blown-out by LSU. We beat no team who finished in ANY top 25 poll. Of the 27 teams who had 10-win seasons, yes we were the worst with 4 losses and beat none of the 27 teams with 10-wins either. Our Special teams were # 80 in the nation and our offense was # 62 in the nation, this despite the fact that we alone had the easiest schedule of every single SEC Team this 2011 season.

Maybe the defense beat the 10 cupcakes, you say, Joe ?

Duh.

It sure wasn’t the offense, or the special teams, now was it by your own admission, sir ?

Big Jacket, maybe you should do a little research, WOW, you would think a Ga.Tech nerd would be able to do that. It’s very simple really. The top 3 defenses in the country at the end of the season were Bama, LSU, and UGA. Bama loses 7 starters from their defense, LSU loses 6 starters from their defense, UGA loses one starter from the defense that started against LSU&MichSt, and neither of them scored on the UGA defense in the 1st half. So maybe you should go brag about your pathetic defense on the Clemson blog, that is the only team Tech can ever beat.

Richt and Grantham are laughing all the way to the bank!

In the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”

That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.

Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of sleazy UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate morons he knows aren’t smart enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year.

Suntanned Saint Mark isn’t all he appears to be, is he?

DawginLex…..

Using your analogy, Florida gave Georgia 21 points this year. It does not work that way. If you turn the ball over, the defense is supposed to stop the other team from putting the ball into the endzone. Anything else is just an excuse. No excuses. Georgia won. No excuses. South Carolina killed Georgia with all those points. Plus….what are your excuses for the LSU, Michigan State, and Boise State points…..oh…..I forgot…..the refs.

You are discussing ranked teams at game time. Like the 6-6 South Carolina team in 2007 was a ranked team at game time, when studied for the entire season, the South Carolina team in 2007 did not even play in a bowl game.

Since beating a highly suspect Georgia tek team who ended up ranked # 13 in 2009, we have gone a 0-9 against teams who ended up that season ranked at all in any top 25.

0-9.

Next season, since the 2009 season was 3 entire seasons ago and Georgia tek was the only team who ended up ranked we beat in 2009, we play at most 1 team who ends up ranked in the top 25, and South Carolina may not end up ranked at all next season. 2008, of course, we played 3 teams who ended up ranked all regular season long, giving up 29, 42 and 31 consecutive points to lose all 3 games; then, we played a Michigan State team who beat no team who ended up ranked at all, all 2008 season either, and ended up # 25.

Mark Richt is 3-13 vs teams finishing top 10 all 11 seasons.

Mark Richt is 17-28 vs teams finishing top 25 all 11 seasons.

Mark Richt has lost to 17 additional teams, who had they not beat him, none of the 17 would have ended up ranked in any top 25 – and, 10 of those 17 still did not end up ranked at all in any top 25 even with their win over Mark Richt.

(1) We don’t beat the top teams we’ve played all 11 yrs
(2) We don’t beat the ranked teams we’ve played all 11 yrs
(3) We’ve lost to 17 teams who don’t end up top 25 if they didn’t beat Mark Richt all 11 yrs

At least we are consistent.

We’ve, in fact, lost 25 games the last 6 seasons.

25 losses the last 6 seasons.

We’ve haven’t done diddle-e-squat.

Doggie fans, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, your team has been exposed. We just don’t buy your B.S. The dogs football team’s 2011 won/loss record was a facade in that it was built on a very weak schedule. Any defense can look tough on paper when you play the Coastal Carolinas, New Mexico States, Boise States, Kentuckys, etc. Watch, next year they’ll probably add Gardner-Webb to their schedule. It came home to roost when the doggies played a really good team like LSU. In this way the dogs are like the 2011 Falcons who had a good looking won/loss record until you looked at who they actually played. Then when they had to play a good team like the Saints, they were exposed.

UGA will grow to regret this decision.

I wonder how much payola Grantham will pass over to the PUNTER who saved his “glorious dominating” defense from one of the worst meltdowns in UGA history with the lucky trip against Vandy?

Amazing how the delusional UGA fans latch on to some unimpeachable coach who is above any blame. It used to be Coach Richt but now it is Grantham. Reality is that against the inferior teams, as often as not it was the offense which saved UGA as much as Grantham’s defense.

Against superior teams frankly both usually stunk it up equally.

Pittman the top ACC recruiter in 2011. Add in Jay Graham as RB coach and the Chargers Special Teams coach, expected to join this week, and that’s a heck of an upgrade for TN. CHIP, I’m not sure where to go for this info so maybe you can help if you read this. Had Bobo or Richt ever moved a player from his natural position, put him on offense, and had success?

ie- Donnan moving Robert Edwards to RB.

slobodan here: BuggdogBen? Didn’t you watch this year with Boykin? Do you know who Champ Bailey is? You didn’t know that it was Ray Goff who changed Robert Edwards to running back from defense – not Jim Donnan (Donnan played Champ Bailey both ways).

also; just wondering if anyone has compared Isiah Crowell’s first year with Hines Ward’s first year? Oh Hines was thrown to the wolves from day one; first as a RB/kick returner – he was beat up so bad, missed time with ankles, concussions etc…He was so glad he made it through his first year not being permanently injured..He turned out pretty good, don’t ya think…..Isaih Crowell got beat up and had the ankle set him back…He will be fine next year if we can block..

With the turn-a-round Grantham has done with the UGA defense (from bottom of the SEC, 65 to 120 in FBS to 5th overall in FBS, 1st in run stopping) is remarkable. Just goes to show, those of US who said for 3-4 years that Martinez wasn’t a very good DC were correct.
Now, there are still some of ‘US’ that are saying that our OC duties need to be upgraded to get us to the next level (doesn’t necessarily mean change in OC) in way of adding to our playbook, being more creative, OR hiring someone who can. Not to rag on Murray, but Murray himself gave up 14 points to Boise St, South Carolina, LSU & Mich St. Sorry, Richt, but you need to find another option at QB & stop worrying about hurting Murray’s feelings; UGA will NOT be able to get to that ‘next level’ with Murray spotting our opponents 14 points a game.
