I say it shouldn’t impact it and I hope they keep CMR around for another 5 years! Now, let the Bobo bashing begin! We need to block better, execute better and sometimes players have to make plays!
I’m behind CMR all the way and I hope he coaches us for many years to come. He has integrity, character and does the right things on and off the field. Yes, I believe he is a great football coach!

I think McGarrity hit it on he head concerning the second guessing. There were several turning points in the game. It seems to me that if we had a cohesive running game we would not have to depend on Walsh or Murray to win games.

Go get us some SEC calibre backs for next year and we’ll be dominate. We can’t expect a one demensional offense to last 4 quarters without some kind of let down.

What a wimp McGarity is! Carlton Thomas gains three yards around left end. You’re sitting at Mich. State’s 22 yard line, 2nd and 7. Mich. State is done,and they know it. In fact, on Thomas’ run, the Mich St. DB who tackled him is slow to get up. Go right back at the kid with the same play or something similar. Worst case you probably end up 4th and 3 at the 18! Then Walsh, who is lacking in confidence as it is, has a 32 yard field goal attempt as opposed to a 42 yarder. He makes that and the Dawgs go home with a win. But noooo. Tanning bed has Hair product run to the center of the field, losing the 3 yards gained, and Walsh misses from the 42. Unbelievable. And McGarity acts like it doesn’t matter. It should matter and a lot. This is so typical of McGarity. Rationalize these losses so he can take the easy way out. Pitiful.

McGarity made some outstanding comments and it’s amazing that if we all take the emotion out of it (which I understand is not easy) and look at things logically, he is correct. I hated the loss on Monday. I was in a bad mood all the next day, but give MSU credit for doing their job. The more McGarity is here the better I like his thinking and not “knee jerk” reactions like most of the Dawg fans! We will be fine and better next year. Also, who cares about the schedule. When it is difficult, people don’t say “well, they played a tough schedule, they should lose”. No, we still have the same people on hear complaining day in day out and then let someone like “Tide Roll” get under their skin. We’ll keep working and we’ll keep winning! Can’t wait for 2012!! Go Dawgs!

O.K. this is scary if McGarity does not see the need for a new OC. I am alright with CMR but not run Carlton Thomas up the middle Bobo. How many top teams have we beaten in the last 2 years? Bobo is so unpredictable my wife can call the plays. I don’t know what has to happen to get Bobo out of the OC position. Keep him as QB coach or something. I thought with McGarity coming from Florida it would learn something on what it takes to win. Just food for thought Jon Gruden maybe looking for a coaching position. Gruden would make a great hire and he would bring in top offensive coaching able to use the talent of the wide receivers we have.

Nice to hear an AD with perspective. He’s exactly right, if we simply make a 42 yard field, the same morons blasting Bobo on here would be staking our claim as a Top 5 program. Georgia has issues with depth, an erratic QB, conditioning (although that has improved), and, yes… questionable play calling on offense. Richt must address our offensive gameplan. It is crucial that he get more involved as Mike Bobo has shown a reluctance to let our players play when the games on the line. We went into a shell offensively and it cost us a useless bowl game.

If McGarity has decided to retain Richt, it serves no purpose to reveal what he considers weaknesses in Richt’s coaching. His job is to rally the troops. It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t realize what’s going on. If I’ve learned one thing about McGarity, its that he has a plan and he doesn’t always reveal it publically. The terms of the extension will be very revealing, especially the buyout clause.

DawgGone, I am not a Bobo fan either and a replacement is necessary. But being from Tampa, let’s just say there is a reason Jon Gruden, as young as he is, isn’t currently coaching and it isn’t because he doesn’t want to. He has a great offensive mind but is horrible in dealing with players, and dealing with personnel moves. He is NOT the answer.

Blah, blah, blah. I think it goes without saying that Michigan State is a very good team and did an outstanding job bouncing back from a 16-0 deficit. I was very impressed with their defense and the way they made adjustments on offense (Bobo should have been taking notes). I’m not sure what this has to do with the price of tea in China however. We play in the SEC. We’re going to face lots of very good teams. When we can’t beat them its going to upset the fans. 0-4 vs. ranked teams this year. Its a mistake to just shrug that off. Maybe a little doubt and negativity is exactly what this team needs. They certainly haven’t proven on the field that they can beat the top teams. That isn’t negativity. Its FACT.

We find ways to lose against the top teams. Did anybody notice on the blocked kick to end the game that the left side of our line didn’t even block Michigan State? Go back and look at it. They just stood up to see if he made the kick. That’s just inexcusable and Richt should rip them a new you know what for it, but it was the last game of the season so they’ll probably never hear a word about it. That would be NEGATIVE and it might hurt their itty bitty feelwings. Good grief.

Success is in the details. You take plays off and that’s how you lose 16-0 leads. Very good teams will do what very good teams tend to do and take advantage of it. McGarity sounds like Paul Johnson: “But they were a good team.” Unreal.

Who expected we would be top 10 team this year, not me. Thought better than prior year and 2012 will be better than this year. We lost to #1, 6, 8, and 12 team in country. Yes we coulda/shoulda beat a couple of them and will next year.

If Walsh had kicked the field goal in both games, and if zMurray has one less fumble in each game, and if receiver hold passes in LSU , and DB holds pick six ball we could easily be 13-1 or 12-2 and probably still someone crying fire somebody.

Goos job Greg, what an improvement over what we had.

serious…it improved this year, it will improve next year! You don’t realize what our last AD was doing to all the programs! He was not liked or respected within the athletic dept, period! Now, we have an AD that is allowing our coaches to focus on their program. Most of us didn’t think we would make it to the SECCG, we did. Is that good enough, NO! But, it’s a much better step in the right direction than before. We could have been Clemson! Or we could be an ACC school. What a terrible conference!

Bully for you GM, and let’s put this season on the shelf and get on with it!!

I know I’ll be called an idiot and a moron for saying this, especially by my favorite trolls who are starting to stalk me. But that’s all right, fire away. My Ol’ Lady calls me worse on a regular basis, and although it’s not my intention to hurt anybody’s feelings, I am not striking it off my list.

When it is all said and done we got beat by a better “team”.
Defensively, we played pretty good, excepting that 85 yard scamper through our “prevent defense”. Is “prevent defense” a misnomer or an oxymoron.

Offensively, we just didn’t have the horses, up front or in the backfield. CMR and CMB should have recognized that and adjusted.

I’m not of the opinion that Bobo should be fired, but I’m absolutely not sold on him either. Sometimes he makes me want to kick the cat with his pig-headedness. If it ain’t working try something else! Damn the gameplan, that went out the window with the first snap!

The only real coaching thing I have questioned is the RB & WR positions. I know the arguement that if you’re a football coach you should be able to “coach” any position. But I’m of the opinion that if you actually played a position then you have a special insight into the nuances of that position. Therefore, I would switch Bryan McLendon and Tony Ball up.

I am looking forward to an even more successful 2012 season, and if we should go 13-0 and win the SEC, don’t be surprised if Kirk Herbsteit and Mark May find a way to keep us out of the MNC.

To all the Bobo bashers, have you ever considered that the best play calling in the world will not work without execution? Running the ball up the middle in the first overtime, not the best play call, however, had our O-line done a better job blocking we make a first down and Bobo is a genius.

I for one am proud of our guys, they way they played and ignored all the fair weather fans calling for their coaches head every time one little thing went wrong this year. We had a really good season and with all the pieces coming back 2012 could be something really special!

Yeah Matthews and LakeDawg, good posts. Most of the people firing off the negative stuff on here expect the team to go from 6-7 to 14-0 apparently. I think a 4 game improvement is something to be happy about from one year to the next. Not to mention, beating your four biggest rivals in one year seems to be forgotten as well. Three of their wins were against teams they lost to last year.

As for the trolls on here, they crack me up because they are just here to stir the pot. They have nothing of merit to say so they just show what small lives they live by working another team’s blogs.

I love McGarity and his vision. I love Richt and his ability as a leader of young men. BUT MIKE BOBO HAS GOT TO GOGO. How many times to you call ‘up the middle’ plays that haven’t worked the entire game???? What makes him think that it was suddenly going to work when our running game as stunk all season, save the Florida game. It allowed MSU’s offense back onto the field with enough time to tie it up!

Sure, MSU deserves credit. They were getting hammered and fought back, like we have seen ourselves do in teh no so distant past. I’m impressed with them. Our offense is so predictable and boring, no wonder we can’t finish the close ones!

There’s a segment of our fans that want to play the blame game. But when you have a loss like that, everybody shares in it. I’m sure everybody on that field felt like they if they could have done something differently, coaches and players, we might not have lost the game. But that’s just part of the deal.

Common dude, really? Play calling is one thing, but I get tired of the calling out one player for losing games stuff. Without Murray in the Outback Bowl, UGA would have lost by 3 TDs because there was no running game, the blocking was a little better than average, and Blair Walsh was being the 2011 Blair Walsh. The first pic wasn’t Murray’s fault it was Tavarres King’s fault for breaking the wrong way with his QB scrambling and the second one was tipped off the side of the DL’s arm. Does he have to take some blame for that one? Sure he does but let’s be real here, there is a lot more blame to go around than just one guy.

Much love for CMR! However, if he does not dispose of the BOBO play calling UGA will struggle to make it to the next level. Look around the nation at the offensive production from sub-par teams! Now look in the SEC even which is know for defense! All the offensive play calling is improving except at UGA. If I can sit during a game and predict the upcoming play based on formation then I am sure a College Def-Coor can also. Get another Grantham for the offense and then you will see a true SEC powerhouse emerge.

Richt gets an extension fine, but Bobo has to go. Get rid of this suedo “Pro Style” offense. This isn’t the ’90’s any longer.

Look at what WVU did last night to Clemson. Up 63-27 they where still going for a TD late, Passing on 2nd and Goal. That is boardline coaching, but that aggressive in your face offense is what UGA has to have.

Also of course everyone is excited the way UGA came back from a 6-7 season, but finishing 10-4 but what was the signature victory? Plenty of signature loses.

Question: The number of teams that have contacted UGA requesting permission to speak with Mike Bobo about a job. That includes all levels of college and high school teams. That means the only 2 people who think he is doing a good job is Mark Richt and Buck Belue. The other football people in the country see him like most UGA fans do as a failure. Time to make tough decisions and let Bobo go and find some fresh thinking.

It’s official, no national championships for this football program in the foreseeable future. I have told people all along that DR. Adams would be the one making the decision on richt. McGarity has zero power in this situation. Richt has known all along that Adams wasn’t going to fire him as long as the money continues to flow. The easy schedule combined with UT, UF, and auburn all having down years this season has allowed this decision to go thru without much of an uproar. Expect the same results going forward, richt will beat most of the mediocre to bad teams but will lose to top competition. Another easy schedule next season means 9 or 10 wins without a signature victory. McGarity is nothing more than Adams errand boy.

Rumors are everywhere that CMR intentionally tanked the last drive so Blair Walsh could go out a hero. Is anyone else hearing this? I watched the last series again last night and it is so strange how it ended… When MSU called timeout to ice Walsh it was still just third down and MSU was out of time-outs. CMR could have run another play then sent Walsh out on 4th down. I just don’t understand the logic I guess.

Looks like he needs some more E-mails since he said he received some. I think he needs a pile telling him to make Richt demote Bobo. Let Bobo keep his pay so Richt should be happy with that. What kills me with this staff is when your team can’t do something against a opponent you change what you are doing. For those that think the team should just execute better need to watch the mad hatter he sees something is not working so he then will try anything to get the team fired up!!! Unlike our staff that will keep trying to be balanced. Our staff continually puts Murray in 3rd and long situations therefore making Murray feel like he has to make a play. As soon as we get behind we seem to throw more on 1st and 2nd down. If we can’t run the ball then a quick pass out to a wr is just as good. But we didn’t run that near enough this year since AJ left. Stacked at te we could have lined up a TE behind Murray and run some screens. No creativity out of our offense. Other coaches love to face us because everybody knows what we will do. Les Miles along with everybody thought they were in trouble in the SECCG. Then late in the 2nd quarter we let our foot of the gas and went back to trying to do what we think we have to be a balanced attack. Please Mcgarity ask someone who you respect outside of Georgia with coaching experience about what they think about our offense. Their is a reason nobody has tried to hire Bobo!!!

Richt will continue to win eight or so games a year, aided by selective scheduling of teams like Coastal Carolina and TN Tech. He will continue his infatuation with “divas” like Crowell at the expense of good, solid students and athletes, who learn and grow and stick around for four years. McGarity is right about the field-goal attempt against MSU. If it had been good, Richt is the hero, and these blogs would be overflowing with praise and predictions of finding the Holy Grail. But Richt has a track record of bad and unsuccessful decisions, like the field goal in last year’s bowl disaster and the failure against MSU. Richt is a predictable and unimaginative coach who has surrounded himself with similar underlings, with the exception of Grantham, who is borderline crazy and seems contemptuous of Richt at times. Many schools would be happy to have a generally successful program like UGA. But considering the talent in GA and the facilities at Richt’s disposal, he is underperforming and certainly poses no threat to Saban, Miles, or even pig man.

You were talking about points scored, just figured you meant against our D. But ARk has NO DEFENSE so you can take away the average points given up by our offense in those games. They do have a good returner so a kick return wouldnt be out of the question. but in the end we would still win, bc our defense would hold their offense to 21 or less and our offense shouldnt have trouble putting up 35-42 on their crap defense.

I gave up reading the rest of your post since the first line started with “Richt” and continued on to describe EVERY COACH AND PROGRAM IN THE SEC.

Case in point, Bama scheduled Kent State and North Texas and recruited Crowell big time

Florida scheduled Florida Atlantic, Furman and UAB and certainly recruited Crowell

Auburn scheduled Utah State, Florida Atlantic and Samford and they were all over Crowell

Tennessee scheduled .. nevermind, it’s still Tennessee.

Lastly, there was LSU who was also really after Crowell and in the midst of all the great teams they beat snuck in Northwestern State and Western Kentucky.

I wonder why the NCAA does not do the way the pros do for this year, that is check out the injuries; in case i get blasted for that remark, i think its a darn good idea that is if they not only check it out but also do something about it. There are getting to be a lot of them; hint!! Where was our new prime (RB) for the last several games?
I only saw him but once in the ‘OBB’, so where was he at? not saying that there are not some ligitimate injuries, but seems as if an awful lot of them lately especially if some high class polayer is strugeling in a game. I think MS played a very good game the other night and supposed they “Just Wanted It More” than we did for they not only won but handed a very good team (US) their 2nd. loss after winning 10 in a row; that speaks well for the whole team, i just really hope we do better next year (or this yr. now); anyway next season.

What I don’t like Lex, is all damn season, McGarity said he wouldn’t make decisions until after the season was OVER.

Richt (or his agent) floated that A&M crap, and McGarity wet his pants and they “told each other they loved each other,” to quote Richt.

If Richt were smart, he would suspend his contract talks, and insist that Grantham get an extension first.

Without Grantham, Richt and Co would have been 7-6, and on his way out of Athens.

Richt should thank Grantham, then the Lord, for the 10 pathetic teams on the schedule last season.

Perspective –

A team coming off a 6-7 season, with a soph QB, All freshman receivers, No discernable RB’s except a highly recruited freshman, and in the 2nd year of a new defensive scheme and coach – goes out – wins 10 games. They beat their nemeisis FL – which they had lost to with far better teams, 18 out of 21 times. They beat GT on the road convincingly, they destroy Auburn 45-7, they beat TN on the road. They win the SEC East for the first time in 6 years. They lose to the #1 team in America, they lose to #7 by 2 TD’s. They lose to #9, when they had their stud RB and starting QB, by 3 in a game they mostly dominated. They lose to a senior domianted #12 in 3 OT”s by a FG in a game they mostly dominated.

What – exactly – were your expectations coming into this season? A run at a national title? Did you think UGA was on par with Alabama and LSU this year?

Yes its frustrating to watch Aaron Murray tournover the ball in big games. Yes it’s frustrating to watch us hold LSU to no first downs in the whole first half, but wind up being blown out. Yes it’s frustrating to lead Mich State 16-0, and have numerous opportunities to put the game away, but lose by a FG. But please – what the hell did you expect from this team? They have no running game. They have freshman and Sophmores handling the ball 95 percent of the time. They do have a ton of young talent and a nasty defense getting better. They have another group of good players coming into the program.

Who would you rather have running the UGA football program? Dabo – who just gave up 70 pts to a big East team? Little Dooley? Chuky Gruden? You’re not getting Saban, or Spurrier, or Miles, or Peterson. Remember Bobby Bowden – the guy with 389 wins – won his first national titile in year 17!

Chill people – UGA has never been a pereniial National title contender. But in the 10 years of Mark RIcht – he’s gotten 10 wins 7 times, finished #2, Finished #3. Richt’s teams won two Southeastern Conference Championships (2002 and 2005), and as of 2011, has won five SEC Eastern Division titles (2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2011). His team represented the SEC in three BCS bowl appearances with a record of 2–1, and finished in the top ten of the final AP Poll five times (2002–2005, 2007).

When was the last time you woke up on Sunday morning and thought “Wow!! I can’t believe we won that game!!!” I can’t even remember its been so long. If this was to truly be a turnaround year we should have had some big wins. But again, we had none.

I don’t think beating the 10 teams that we beat is any big deal at all. That should happen every year.

Something will be done with Bobo after signing day, he will likely be demoted. So folks will be happy, and the team will have a real OC in CMR. Or the may go hire and bring in someone to help with Offense , its clear to everyone but CMR…. bobo is not up to the task. He is not smart enough to adjust. He took over 3 years ago, need I say more?

This is exactly why we will not win a National Championship in the next ten (10) years. A complacent mindset will not help strengthen the team. Imagine if McGarity were defending Willie Martinez still to this day instead of making the needed change and hiring Grantham. Everyone can see the improvement on defense that the change made. The offense is a major concern (i.e. no running game, continually missed blocks, horrible interceptions, negative yardage in one of every three plays, and etc.) and for the life of me I cannot understand why the cement hasn’t been broken around Bobo’s feet. Defense wins championships. Next year the Bulldogs will have the best defense that has played in Athens since 2002. However, the offense is not growing and the games this year proved that we cannot keep the offense on the field and are relying on our defense to stop the other team. When the other team makes big plays (or are handed pick-6’s) then the defense cannot help us no matter how strong they are. The offense needs some serious adjustments and if McGarity nor CMR can see that then we will again have a wasted year for a shot at an SEC title and possible National Championship. Could you just imagine having Grantham in year 2 of the 3-4 defense when Stafford, Moreno and Green were putting up all those points per game? It is a shame that we cannot see the forest for the trees. Come’ on Man!

Go back and listen to John Gruden talk about the OC’s at West Virginia and Clemson and how they both took an out of the box approach to learn new offensive schemes to make their play calling better. Why isn’t Bobo taking the initiative to do the same? Is it because he has some many kids that he doesn’t have the time to devote to getting better in designing/calling plays? Or is Bobo just stuck on his style and feels it will pay off if he continues to run the same plays over-and-over again. I watched West Virginia roll-up a ton of yards last night running the spread, power-i, wishbone and shotgun (no backs). They looked like Oregon with all of the different sets and looks that they were throwing at Clemson. Why can’t Bobo take a page from their book? I feel like we have another Willie Martinez deal occurring in front of our eyes with Bobo. Come’ on Man!

It’s going to cost Georgia a lot of money to extend Richt’s contract. Richt is not going to survive and paying him to leave will be costly. We need a real, working coach. We’re already paying to much for what we’re getting. Georgia should still be talking about replacing him not an extension. And the AD doesn’t seem to get it. The slowing of contributions will eventually force change. Money rules. Came very close to not renewing my 8 season tickets.

I think the new recruiting rule allows you to recruit a maximum of 28 players, that being 25 for the current year and 3 players from the previous year, if there is room. Not 30 total players, only 28. Unless that changed, I think that is what they voted for last summer.
If you bring in a kid for a spring time commit, I think you have to have room for him from the previous year when you didn’t have 85 players, or 25 from the previous year. But I think that spring recruit still count against the total of 28 that you are allowed to recruit for the current year. Marshall will count against that 28 and UGA does have room because they don’t have 85 people on scholarship total or a full class from 2011 of 25. I would assume Alabama is in the same position as well. I don’t know how many gray shirts they have.
Does anybody know, if you have a guy sitting out a year, if that counts against your 85 limit or your current years limit? Do red shirts and gray shirts count against the recruiting total and are they considered part of the 85 total a school can have on scholarship?

Or..Inability to put teams away

Also note you rang the praises of Richt leading this team to victories over UF,UF and Auburn. They where a combined 7-17 in conference. Also you mention a victory over Tech. We own Tech so that really cannot be consider much of a big deal. You are beginning to have a strong odor of Kool Aid coming from you with posts like those.

No wonder Ealey wanted out. I thought he was a problem, however now I can see that the offense wasnt going to get any better so he packed his bags. Good for him. Everyone wanted to know why Caleb King wasnt better than advertised. Now everyone wants to blame Crowell. Do you see a trend? Might I remind everyone that Samuels was also a 5-star RB out of Cass HS. Samuel isnt cutting it either. Next year UGA will have three 5-star RB’s (Samuel, Crowell and Marshall) along with 4-star and 5-star OL to block. I bet you that the offense will still have the same problems that they have faced in 2011. Wake up and smell the coffee that Bobo has got to go if UGA will ever be a SEC title holder again. Forget about a National Championship contender. After 2012 the schedule gets very tough. Then they can start blaming the tough schedule again for not winning….Same story just another year! Richt has been mocked and derided by football writers from across the land for his lame coaching decisions vs. Mich. St. These are people with zero vested interest in UGA football. Here are a few choice quotes:

“If you play for field goals, you’re asking for problems.”

“Coffee’s for closers only.”

“Tackles for loss: Michigan State 17, Georgia 6. The Spartan lines were terrific. The Georgia lines were awful.”

“You might have cost your team a victory with your conservative play-calling in the first overtime, Coach Richt. What was Georgia thinking when it put the brakes on the offense, and got content with a 42-yard field goal attempt when the game was tied? Awful decision from Richt, who should have at least tried to get his kicker a little closer to the uprights.”

“Richt will be in trouble again at this time next year if he doesn’t win an SEC championship. Has anyone taken notice of the fact that his Dawgs built a 10-win season against average competition, and dropped all four of its toughest games?”

“Georgia deserved to lose this game. Mark Richt’s decision in the first OT to move the ball to the middle of the field and trust his kicker Blair Walsh – who had missed 12 field goals coming in – was WAY too conservative (and there are other ways to describe it) for regular season games, much less bowl games. Calls like that will get Richt back on the hot seat very quickly.”

That said, I have little confidence in his ability to pull out the victory against the best opponents. What I’m unsure of at this time is whether that has more to do with his ability/maturity, or his coaching?”

“Quick question for Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo – after watching what Boykin did against Boise State in the opening game, and against MSU in the closer, where was he for the rest of the season?”

“Why oh why Georgia? When will teams learn that settling for a long field goal for a win isn’t the best call? Try to run the same stuff that was working to at least get into better field position. Instead, Georgia sat on it after the pick and it cost them as the FG attempt sailed just right. It cost the Bulldogs the game.”

“What was Mark Richt thinking in the first overtime? By settling for a FG, Richt was indirectly telling his team that he did not have enough confidence in his offense to score a TD to end the game. With the way his offense was playing, he owed it to his team to win it with a TD.”

These are just a handful of quotes from various writers. Obviously McGarity has his head somewhere else. He’s in denial just like Richt. Could there be something in the air at Butts-Mehre that causes this type of delusional behavior?

This is the logic?

Long time, $3M a year coach lets football program slide to 14-12 in ‘09 and ‘10.

He has a fluke 10 game stretch of bad teams, and wins them all as the favorite, sandwiched by 4 losses, (2 badly) to three favorites, and 1 underdog, to finish 10-4, (72%), probably falls out of rankings.

Has only beaten 1 ranked team in 3 full seasons.

And thus is deemed worthy of a contract extension and raise.

Where else in the USA with such average results, would an employee get rewarded like this?

Im just disgusted that our AD would bring up Walsh’s name on his last game that now Walsh has to live with this

Walsh was a great kicker for us unfortunatly Richt has no clue how to help the kid and the kid suffers

By the way Kevin Butler said that Walsh made almost every kick on the left hash mark, You would think our coach would know that and had Murray down the ball on the left hash mark instead of the middle.

Flat Tire, I wouldn’t be too uppity to throw in USC, OSU and AU considering USC and OSU have been busted for violations (and believe me, if they even tried to delve into the Maurice Clarette stuff at OSU, the death penalty would be right around the corner), and AU just never got caught.

Now, as for Texas, you and every other Richt basher on here needs to never mention them or Mack Brown because he may not have ever seen the national title game had he been coach at UGA with the years he had leading up to the national title. No conference titles, and constantly losing to their rivals, 18 losses in his first 6 years, 3-3 in bowls with all six being the cotton or holiday bowl, and until year 7, no real sign of changes. What happened in year 7? The rise of Vince Young. What happened for Urban? The rise of Tim Tebow. Chizik? Cam Newton. Pete Carroll? Reggie Bush. Tressel? Maurice Clarette. Of that group you mentioned, the only teams whose coaches aren’t one player wonders are Saban and Miles and Saban has to get a lot of credit for helping LSU become the juggernaut it is today.

Dawgs run up the middle because the OL was to big and slow to pull. They had two more plays to get closer but depended on a guy that had missed 13 field goals to win the game. They should have gone for a TD and settled for a field goal but Murray almost threw an interception a few plays before and Richt did not want to risk him throwing ANOTHER pick.

Wow u must have never watched a down of football at any level. (I actually played throughout my childhood all the way to Varsity in HS, but thanks for your concern)

You clearly have never taken a basic math class either. yes 85 is the end all be all max schollies. But Bama only has 18 openings for this coming season (Not counting Juniors, and already including those that count for the prior year (although it would heavily surprise me if they had any left from last year) ) So when Saban comes out and says he is signing 30 period, when only 18 spots are open he is either going to pray that 12 go early (nd then yall will be in big trouble), or he will have to some combo of grey shirting or cutting players. The medical redshirt crap has been blocked so now his only option is to start cutting scholly players to make room.

Might not be cheating, but finding loopholes so you can crush 5-10 kids dreams every year isnt anything to be proud of. It will be closed down sooner rather than later as almost all of the coaches will bring out the torches and pitch forks if he is allowed to continue this practice.

You know I used to actually. He did a stand up for us in Kuwait during my first deployment and he was funny. But then he made a movie called “Worlds Greatest Dad” and it was all downhill from there. Thanks for asking though.

Very true, but that is the NFL. Funny but look at what he is doing in the NFL versus all the guys I mentioned earlier (this is not a Richt praise or bash). I think the biggest problem with Richt/Bobo as a whole is that they don’t throw a saddle on some of these guys and let them carry the game. Reggie Bush, Tim Tebow, Vince Young, Maurice Clarette were all superstars in college who carried the game for their teams and look what they are doing/did in the NFL. I don’t think Stafford was in that class of college players maybe because he didn’t get the chance to just go after it.

McGarity says to keep it in perspective… Ok, how about?… our record against top 25 teams the last 3 years: 3 Wins and 15 Losses. That’s a 17% winning percentage… When’s the last time we went to a major BCS bowl? 2008 Sugar Bowl… When’s the last time we won an SCG? 2005. When’s the last time we won a football national title?… Now, what has the rest of the SEC done in the meantime? Win national championships. Why is UGA so ok with being average? We’re not going anywhere with the kind of gut-less play-calling we’ve called lately. It appears the solution we came up with is to play the weakest schedule that we can play and hope we don’t botch that. LSU and Alabama are not getting any weaker in the years to come. We’re gonna keep getting our @sses handed to us at the SCG.

McGarity, please, at least demote Bobo.

Georgia needs to reset it’s goals. We have the ability to recruit just as good of players as our elite SEC competitors, yet we continue to fall short of the grand prize. Could it be that we don’t set the bar high enough? Are we content with a SEC east trophy or are we pursuing a National Championship?
Does Nick Saban or Les Miles think SEC division titles are good enough or are they thinking of the bigger prize like playing the National championship. It is time to reassess our goals and that can only happen from the top. Are you listening McGarity?

We look like a lock to only lose to SC next year. THey will have to play LSU and Arkansas. We slide by if Ark. beats them. Then again the Fla game was a lot closer than I thought it should have been, so maybe we end up tied and they get the tie breaker having whooped us. In the end it won’t matter, if we return to the SEC ch. we get crushed again in the 2nd half because no real fire in the bones after haft time. i.e. poor coaching

And I stick to this point, many of you wouldn’t have given Mack Brown a chance to see year 8 (his NC year) if that was going on at UGA. 11 losses in his first three years, no conference titles, upset losses year after year. Heck in 2003 alone he was upset by unranked Arkansas and Wash State in the bowl game.

These Jokers don’t get it…….
If you all watched the WV route of Clemson Last night, you saw a team/coaching staff that didn’t take their foot off the gas when they had a team where they wanted them and you see the result!
the bottom line is until this coaching staff “TRUST” these players not to do something wrong they will continue to try and salt a game away (even to start the 2nd half) which will in turn, freely hand over the momenum of the game and allow the defense to spend the majority of the time on the field (trying to hold up the fort) while the offensive “coordinator” runs the ball into whatever the strength of the opposition.
I know everyone knows this is EXACTLY what the deal is and I am challenging the AJC journalist to do a story on this and even get an answer from the coaches on what they could possibly think the outcome will be when they do this….

@gdawink…..good points. You’re point on #3 is well supported. Let’s hope that McGarity is simply exercising his media savvy here. But, behind closed doors, he will persuade Coach Richt to make these much needed changes. Upgrade the offensive staff similar to the way he upgraded the defensive staff, and we are positioned to better compete for a championship.

McGarity: Outback Bowl loss won’t impact negotiations with Richt…and it shouldn’t. Mark Richt is a good man. He’s putting together the necessary pieces to make UGA football relevant again. I think he has an AD now who is more interested in supporting him than chasing red panties. He hired a DC who orchestrated a turn-around and he will do the same for the offense. You are lucky to have Mark Richt. The fans who want him fired are no smarter than the one that held up the sign that said, “GO DWAGS.” I hope the Dawgs go undeafeted until their last regular season game.

SMART, you can’t bring Gruden into this mix. His issue isn’t coaching it’s dealing with people. I say it again. He wants to coach again and considering he has won a super bowl, don’t you think he would already have an NFL job if teams out there wanted him? Being from Tampa and a Bucs fan, that was a tough thing to deal with hearing about all the time.

If you are a great high school player and are looking for greatness at the next level are you seriously going to pass over Bama and LSU for GA? Especially if you didn’t grow up being a DAWG? I wouldn’t. I might stay in-state so family could see me more or for some other reason, like immediate playing time, but not for the program.

McGarity: Outback Bowl loss won’t impact negotiations with Richt…and it shouldn’t. Mark Richt is a good man. He’s putting together the necessary pieces to make UGA football relevant again. I think he has an AD now who is more interested in supporting him than chasing red panties. He hired a DC who orchestrated a turn-around and he will do the same for the offense. You are lucky to have Mark Richt. The fans who want him fired are no smarter than the one that held up the sign that said, “GO DWAGS.”

Why would I waste my time on any other teams blogs talking about our coach? Could that possibly be more off topic from what I posted to you? Fact is, you brought up all these other programs that changed coaches and won a NC. It was a good point by you but I think there is more to it to discuss than just pointing out the teams that won a NC. Like I said, two of those teams brought in coaches that caused them to be on probation now, one of those teams probably should be but didn’t get caught and the Texas thing, well, again, Mack Brown wouldn’t have lasted 8 years with a fairweather fan base.

ahaha thats not even close to reality. Many a good player has been forced to take a BS medical redshirt for new blood, or has been cut in favor of new blood. this is what he does. How he kept it that quiet for that long we will never know, but fact is its out there for everyone to see finally and it will factor into recruiting.

In fact it already has with Jordan Jenkins and his family. They are very skeptical of the oversigning practice and not sure if thats a fit for their son. He may still commit but the fact that its weighing on his decsion is a big win for the schools that do it the right way.

After 30 years, the weight of that incentive must be pretty heavy.

One only need to look to the NFL and how many Georgia players excel there to see how much talent is wasted and not properly developed between the hedges.

Monty, whether kids are passing on Georgia for Alabama or LSU isn’t an issue. Richt is getting prime high school talent, and has been since he arrived in Athens. ESPN did a report on schools that had the best recruiting results over the past 10 years, based on Rivals rankings. No. 1 was USC (to no one’s surprise). No. 2? That’s right, your beloved Bulldogs. The only possible conclusions are that the Rivals rankings are inaccurate, which is certainly possible, Richt isn’t recruiting to need, or he’s just not coaching them up like Miles, Saban, Spurrier and so many other coaches are.

Rivals is biased toward Bama and Florida recruits and has been proven. check out
