TAMPA — If Georgia does not repeat as Southeastern Conference Eastern Division champions in 2012, it will not have the schedule to blame.
The SEC on Wednesday finally released its new football schedules for next season and the Bulldogs made out well. They dropped the Oct. 6 game at Alabama and picked up a road game against new conference member Missouri in Columbia, Mo., on Sept. 8. Meanwhile, UGA’s traditional SEC opener against South Carolina was moved back to Oct. 6. That game will also be on the road, as originally scheduled.
The only other change for the Bulldogs was their game at Kentucky, originally scheduled for Oct. 13, moves back one week. That will eliminate what was originally an off week before the Florida game. However, the Gators also lose their off week before playing the Bulldogs, so neither team has an advantage.
Georgia’s non-conference opponents of Buffalo (Sept. 1), Florida Atlanta (Sept. 15), Georgia Southern (Nov. 17) and Georgia Tech (Nov. 24) remain the same.
“I don’t think anybody in this conference has an easy schedule,” Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity said Wednesday. “We have nothing to base a road game to Missouri on. There’s no question going to Columbia, Mo., is going to be a tremendous challenge. just like Florida going to Texas A&M is going to be. I know within our building nobody is thinking there’s anything easy about our schedule.”
Bulldogs coach Mark Richt declined comment on the new slate. “I think the focus should be this game and that’s what we’re going to be focued on,” he said. “I don’t want to get too far down the road. Let’s finish up this season and we’ll talk about those things in the future.”
McGarity said it’s important to note that Georgia is not replacing Alabama with Missouri. The Bulldogs simply are keeping Auburn as their traditional rival from the West and had to honor their return game with Ole Miss after playing the Rebels in Oxford last season.
It should also be noted that the new schedule, revamped to accommodate new conference members Missouri and Texas A&M, is intended for just one year. The SEC will reconvene in the spring to look at schedules for 2013 and beyond.
“The SEC transition team and our athletic directors did a great job with significant logistical challenges in a short time frame in developing the 2012 football conference schedule,” SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said. “The ability to come together for the conference is what makes the SEC so strong and that was evident yet again in this process.”
Said McGarity: “The entire scheduling process was difficult and the transition team led by the SEC office had to deal with some very difficult scheduling challenges and formats. That’s why it took a long time to make it through.”
McGarity remains skeptical that the league would go to nine conference games.
“It really restricts scheduling flexibility to do that, especially when it comes to traditional rivals and having a seven-game home schedule,” McGarity said. “That’s going to be very difficult to do.”
Georgia’s players were essentially oblivious to the changes.
“I really don’t pay attention to any of it,” sophomore linebacker Jarvis Jones said. “We just watch film, look at the personnel and line up and play. We can’t help who we play. We don’t make the schedule. So we just go out there any chance we get and try to make the best of it.”
Said fellow linebacker Alec Ogletree: “I didn’t know anything about it. I’m still trying to focus on this year and getting this last game over with. I’ll worry about next year when it’s time to.”
Here’s how the new slate looks:

I’m very impressed wsith their QB and RB that will be coming back. I hear most of the losses on offense will be on the line so that will be tough for them. Still, Mizzou will be pumped for us for that game.

That has to be the dumbest post of the day from a true DA.
Alabama blew UGA out and you are taking reducing the lead to 41-30 as an “almost win”. Was that one of those “moral victories” I’ve heard so much about.
Actually its to point out that Bama is nothing for UGA to fear you have beaten Richt 1…. ONE time. And to place emphasis that your ONE win wasnt even that great. You fell apart and opened the door for us to come back.
Maybe you should try reading Comp classes, I get they have night classes in your area.

You must be delusional or using the same dope that your runningbacks are using. You brag about the SEC but won’t play the top schools in the SEC. When you do, you get beatdown like Rodney King vs LAPD.
UGA do not want any of Southern Cal(period) Play Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, or Virginia Tech. When you put schools like that on your schedule, then, the rest of college football might take you seriously. You are trying to backdoor your way into a NC game. You sit there and screem SEC SEC every year. But when people take a closer look at your schedule, you don’t play anybody.
There’s a reason why College football is a regional sport and the NFL is a Global Sport.

The main thing that Georgia need’s to concentrate on in 2012 is to NOT lose to a team they are suppose to beat. This year they took care of business and won all the game’s they were suppose to win and that was a great thing when you don’t have a reliable field goal kicker.
First time in many year’s that we actually went for forth down instead of kicking a field goal when we were in range on more occasion’s than I would like. I hope that Marshall , part of this year’s recruiting class, will get us back to what has always been a strong point for Georgia.

Its very obvious the SEC is trying to help UGA. Problem is they’re beyond help. The SECCG showed that and book it, so will Michigan St.
The SEC East is a joke but crazy thing is the SEC East champ was ranked behind another SEC East team. Despite the favorable schedule South Carolina will be ranked higher but Alabama will be #1 or 2. ESPN and company are going to aim for Alabama vs USC/Barkley. They can go ahead and write the scripts. UGA will not get noticed and even if a miracle happened and they won the SEC theyd get passed up if Michigan or like team is also undefeated. If they win the SEC then the SEC must be down. And even if they get in, they’ll get destroyed.
But that didn’t stop SEC from helping UGA overcome it’s lack of coaching and quality players. What a shame. I was looking forward to an SECCG style romp of UGA at the hands of Bama.

Michigan was gifted BCS game (Should never happen that the big ten gets 2 bcs teams, same with ACC) Ohio state is a joke and the most over rated team of the century (putting them in there made me laugh uncontrollably). Va Tech- we beat them in the peach bowl a few years ago and would eaily beat them any given year. ACC is a joke, only reason Va tech even looks that good.

Go back to the Finnebaum show to spew your self- congratulatory BS. LSU is going to win by two touchdowns or more. You haven’t even been on the radar screen since 1993 and suddenly in the past couple of years, you guys think you own the sport. You are actually giving Auburn fans a good name. CJP – Not the problem, but I will agree it will take that special QB for Tech to be any better then just good.
His recruiting is good, issue is the past graduation rates have been bad so he can’t take many chances on kids with lower GPA/Test scores so he’s limited on who he can rally push for. Last years class was really good and this years is shaping up nice but we really could have used the two UGA got from us:

UGA does not have any reason to defend or apologize for this schedule. I don’t recall any sympathy given to us in ‘08 when we had to go to Baton Rouge to play LSU as well as Alabama at home, along with roadies at Arizona State, South Carolina and Auburn.
Schedules flux from year to year — but ultimately we know that we have to strap it on against Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, SC, and Tech every single year. Some years we get easier games against the SEC West — but Arkansas, ‘Bama or LSU (one of them) come on every other year approximately — but we’d still have to beat them in the SECCG to advance to any consideration of the NC.
We’ve played our share of ooc tough games — ASU, Colorado, OSU, etc… The SEC alone is more than enough of a challenge — until some type of 8-16 team playoff system comes into play, we year-in/out have a plenty tough enough and demanding schedule.

The problem was no SEC team could win out better than 2002 OSU(12-0) v Miami(12-0) or Texas or USC. See when UGA won the SEC on 2002 you only lost to Florida but beating Northwestern State(9-4), New Mexico State(7-5), Clemson(7-5), and GT(7-5) did get you any respect.
