TAMPA — If Georgia does not repeat as Southeastern Conference Eastern Division champions in 2012, it will not have the schedule to blame.
The SEC on Wednesday finally released its new football schedules for next season and the Bulldogs made out well. They dropped the Oct. 6 game at Alabama and picked up a road game against new conference member Missouri in Columbia, Mo., on Sept. 8. Meanwhile, UGA’s traditional SEC opener against South Carolina was moved back to Oct. 6. That game will also be on the road, as originally scheduled.
The only other change for the Bulldogs was their game at Kentucky, originally scheduled for Oct. 13, moves back one week. That will eliminate what was originally an off week before the Florida game. However, the Gators also lose their off week before playing the Bulldogs, so neither team has an advantage.
Georgia’s non-conference opponents of Buffalo (Sept. 1), Florida Atlanta (Sept. 15), Georgia Southern (Nov. 17) and Georgia Tech (Nov. 24) remain the same.
“I don’t think anybody in this conference has an easy schedule,” Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity said Wednesday. “We have nothing to base a road game to Missouri on. There’s no question going to Columbia, Mo., is going to be a tremendous challenge. just like Florida going to Texas A&M is going to be. I know within our building nobody is thinking there’s anything easy about our schedule.”
Bulldogs coach Mark Richt declined comment on the new slate. “I think the focus should be this game and that’s what we’re going to be focued on,” he said. “I don’t want to get too far down the road. Let’s finish up this season and we’ll talk about those things in the future.”
McGarity said it’s important to note that Georgia is not replacing Alabama with Missouri. The Bulldogs simply are keeping Auburn as their traditional rival from the West and had to honor their return game with Ole Miss after playing the Rebels in Oxford last season.
It should also be noted that the new schedule, revamped to accommodate new conference members Missouri and Texas A&M, is intended for just one year. The SEC will reconvene in the spring to look at schedules for 2013 and beyond.
“The SEC transition team and our athletic directors did a great job with significant logistical challenges in a short time frame in developing the 2012 football conference schedule,” SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said. “The ability to come together for the conference is what makes the SEC so strong and that was evident yet again in this process.”
Said McGarity: “The entire scheduling process was difficult and the transition team led by the SEC office had to deal with some very difficult scheduling challenges and formats. That’s why it took a long time to make it through.”
McGarity remains skeptical that the league would go to nine conference games.
“It really restricts scheduling flexibility to do that, especially when it comes to traditional rivals and having a seven-game home schedule,” McGarity said. “That’s going to be very difficult to do.”
Georgia’s players were essentially oblivious to the changes.
“I really don’t pay attention to any of it,” sophomore linebacker Jarvis Jones said. “We just watch film, look at the personnel and line up and play. We can’t help who we play. We don’t make the schedule. So we just go out there any chance we get and try to make the best of it.”
Said fellow linebacker Alec Ogletree: “I didn’t know anything about it. I’m still trying to focus on this year and getting this last game over with. I’ll worry about next year when it’s time to.”
Here’s how the new slate looks:

Hey “idiots”: UGA controls everyone and everything. Not only have we given ourselves an easy SEC schedule but we went ahead awarded the NC game to the Georgia Dome next year if they agreed to put us in it. We will be playing Tech because they also guaranteed us a victory. Freaking Idiots!
Go away Auburn and Tech fans. We own you!

Also note that the OOCS is going in the model of Florida when they elect to not schedule to OOC games. McGarity simply borrowed the model from Foley and Meyer. Seemed to have worked nicely for UF. So let the crying begin for another year about our easy schedule.

Not just them, almost every other team does it. We used to have some of the toughest OOC games on our schedule, and then have to play in the SEC on top of that.

Any of you idiots who are saying “…when is UGA going to play a real schedule..etc etc” need to look back at the last 5 years. UGA has had their share of top 5 toughest schedules in the country. It’s about time UGA got a break. College football, especially in the SEC is cyclical. This exact same schedule in 3 years could be murderous. Typical tunnel visioned morons.

Well you cant have it both ways. It wasnt to long ago many in the fanbase wanted to play tougher teams so Evans went out and scheduled the Arizona States,Oklahoma States,Clemson, Louisville and Oregon. Now the Lousivlle and Oregon games have not nor will be played. The philosophy has changed in Athens and I believe it is for the better. Why go out risk playing OOC games and wrecking the season when the SEC schedules for the most part prove to be a gauntlet in the first place. Trolls are the only ones whining about this schedule.

The SEC has 2 Really Good Teams(LSU & BAMA) – everybody else is the conference is average at Best. Why don’t your team Grow a Pair and play against the big boys. Oh, I forgot, you did last year.i.e. Boise State, see what happened. Play a teams like Texas, Oregon State, Miami, or Florida State. Your team should be called “Next Year”, your fans always say next year they will be good. It never happens
The NFL doesn’t play for make believe Championships. The BCS championship is as arbitrary as a chocolate tomato. You rely on computer polls, coaches polls, ap polls, and I need a beat polls. Instead of getting a real playoff system. College teams changing conferences for money, but it’s amateur sport. Only college football fans can fall for a system like the BCS. Because no true sports fan will accept a bias system that operates that way. Yes I will keep the NFL, product in the LAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hit me up when your team grow up and play with the big boys……………how about them puppies………….:-((
You know what’s dumb, is you trying to justify that schedule when your own fans even admit it’s a weak schedule.
Sit down and go watch that special on Herschel Walker, because that was the last great team you had.

They won’t give them a tough er schedule because they can’t handle it. Let’s just throw them some softballs underhand so they can be sure to hit. This schedule reminds me of school kids these days not getting hard test or grades because they are affraid of what happens to a childs psychy if they fail; give me a freakin’ break!
UGA is going to start being labeled the Boise State of the SEC – Lots of wins but a weak schedule not worthy of a national championship team.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Why play tough OOC games when you already have to play in the toughest conference. If these other conferences would catch up then maybe SEC teams would have incentive to beef up their schedule. Until then the smartest thing to do in the SEC is to schedule the weakest OOC schedule you can, try to go 12-0, try to win the SECC and be a lock for the title game. Doing anything else would be…..well uncivilized.

In Georgia’s defense before 2011 even kicked off. Boise State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi State and Auburn were viewed as toss ups with Georgia projected as underdogs in 4 of the 6. Nobody could have predicted the mess or total collapse of Tennessee, Florida or Auburn. Miss State looking back on it was a decent win but they did not live up to the preseason hype and stumbled during the first half. We werent crying the blues for them at that time.

U have no brain for college football thats pretty obvious. See in college football there is the powerhouse Conf called the SEC that is loaded with talent everywhere you look. So when you have to play 8 of them, you tend to not schedule the hard OOC games. But for forever UGA did while everyone else played easy teams.
But now that UGA is doing it, call the police they are cheating o wow.
Run along little boy, and go watch your overpaid cry babies.

Maybe we should get the SEC to pick up the state of Georgia and move it west so we can be in the west and play those teams every year. Typical Bama fan who doesn’t remember the few short years ago…and I mean few…when Bama, LSU, Arkansas and the whole West sucked…Auburn was pretty good then. The East was dominating then and the West was a joke. But hey, lets just talk about what is happening right now and act like UGA should just blow up their schedule every year and play the top 12 toughest teams in the country just to make you happy over there in Bammer. Maybe do a little recent history lesson for yourself (last 7 years) and see if you can learn yourself sumpin (doesn’t that language make sense over there)
