Isaiah Crowell hasn't done much for Georgia since his 132-yard rushing effort against Auburn. He has had 26 yards on 12 carries in the three games since. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Q&A WITH ISAIAH CROWELL
With 29 more yards rushing, Isaiah Crowell will have turned in the best performance by a freshman tailback since Herschel Walker had 1,616 in 1980. Crowell currently has 847 yards, 28 behind Thomas Brown, who had 875 in 2004. Crowell was named SEC Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American. Yet he’s vilified on blogs and in fan forums and was actually booed in the SEC Championship Game at the Georgia Dome. The frustration over Crowell is everyone can plainly see his first season at Georgia could have even more glorious. Suspensions, injuries and a general inability to stay on the football field for expended periods of time makes it seem his was only a part-time effort.
On track for a 1,000-yard season, an ankle injury limited Crowell to just 26 yards on 12 carries in the Bulldogs’ final three games. He claims to be healthy now but heads into the Jan. 2 Outback Bowl second team behind redshirt freshman Ken Malcome. By all accounts there is nothing currently that would keep Crowell out of that game. This past weekend, Crowell spent a few minutes talking with reporters about his first season at Georgia and what it felt like from his perspective.
Q: At one point 1,000 yards rushing — one of your stated goals — seemed like a foregone conclusion. But then you didn’t play much from the Kentucky game on. Is that something you still believe is achievable?
A: “I don’t think it’s out of reach. I mean, it it happens, I’ll be happy. If it doesn’t happen, I’ll still be happy because I had a great season, a freshman season. So if it doesn’t happen I’ll just come back and try again next year.”
Q: You also said you wanted to be named a freshman All-American and that happened for you, too. Was that exciting for you?
A: “Yeah, I was excited about it. But I don’t really pay attention to stuff like that.”
Q: If there was any one thing you could change about this past season, what would it be?
A: “I think everything I did, there’s a reason for everything. So, no, I wouldn’t change anything about it.”
Q: Ken Malcome has been working at first-team tailback ahead of you. Have you been motivated by the competition?
A: “Yeah, you’re always going to compete. Even when I was first team I was still competing. So it’s nothing really new to me. At practice you’re going to compete. I don’t look at it like I’m trying to beat him out. I want him to do well, too. It’s going to come down to the coaches anyway, so I don’t really look at it too much.”
Q: I’m sure you saw where Georgia got a commitment from tailback Keith Marshall of Raleigh. He’s the No. 1 running back prospect in the country, like you were last year. Do you feel threatened or frustrated because UGA felt the need to pursue another big-time back?
A: “Really I’m happy to get another guy. I thought we needed more running backs. So I think that’s a good thing.”
Q: Did you meet Marshall during recruiting?
A: “We talked on the phone and texted. But I haven’t really met him face to face.”
Q: Noticed you haven’t been in green for practice. Are you fully recovered from your left-ankle injury.
A: “Yes I am. I’m farther along.”
Q: What are some lessons you learned your first season?
A: “Just follow my teammates and coaches. They’re counting on me to do what I’m supposed to do. . . . I think I need to be more accountable and handle my responsibilities better.”
Q: How glad were you did get fall semester exams behind you?
A: “Really, I’m happy that’s all that’s over. I felt like I needed a break. I’m just ready to chill out some. So, yeah, I was happy about it.”
Q: There probably hasn’t been a more scrutinized and speculated-about athlete at Georgia in a long while. Did you ever hear all the rumors that were circulating about you?
A: “I don’t really look at it. I don’t really pay attention to it. People don’t come to me with those things. I hear about it. I don’t pay no attention to it.”
Q: Which one did you think was the most outlandish?
A: “All of it.”
Q: So then you’ve heard that you want to transfer, right?
A: “Yeah. I’m happy here. I know there’s rumors about me wanting to transfer and all that, but no. I never said that.”
Q: What do you think of Malcome and how he’s playing presently?
A: “He’s a great teammate and a good person. He works hard. I can see us playing together and doing well. I think we’ll be a good combination. I know he knows how to run the ball well.”

One thing is for certain, we are a better team with IC on the field.
I for one am rooting for him to continue to mature, and leave UGA as one of the best tailbacks to ever suit up.
Also, props to Boo Malcome. Like a pheonix!

He s still pretty proud of himself, but I think he is beginning to mature a little bit. He has confidence, and that’s as important as anything in college. I think with Marshall, Maclome, Samuels, and another RB, along with Crowell, we will have a solid bunch of backs.
The ball is clearly in his court now. It is good Malcome is giving him some competition, because Malcome can move the line when he hits it, and he is tough. I just want to see him hold onto the ball better.

As well as he played and persevered through the scrutiny, it seems like the SID could have prepped him a little better on what to say in an interview. I hope he continues to improve. With the additions UGA have made and potential improvement and if Charles and Rambo stay…UGA has the potential for something special next season.

I think it safe to say NObody would have wanted to get suspended for that. Obviously he would change that if he could. Does he really need to say that in an newspaper interview? As a parent I would advise him not to bring it up again in a public forum. His coaches have already dealt with it. Fans are going to say and think what they want to. He also clearly said “happens for a reason” which tells me he is at least talking the right way about learning lessons. along with the other respectful answers. (which were many) What is clear to me is that the kid is very uncomfortable with the media attention since day one and has always given short polite answers just to get out of there.

This may sound crazy but with all the RBs at GA at the same time why has not Bobo and Richt come up with some running game that would use more than one back at the same time…No one is ever fooled about who is getting the ball. We have no counter plays a little draw to the only back in the backfield and maybe sometime an illed timed reverse that has not been set up to fool the defense. When we had Lumpkin, Brown, Ware and Marino. We had studs sitting on the bench that were all better than Crowell. Now we are basically hurting in the debth chart of RBs. With Marshall and our backs now it seems that we need to use the backs more…Oh that is right we are overloaded with WRs and QBs sitting on the bench when we need a ton of OL. It takes time to develop OL but we need to get away from having to start an OL as a freshmen. Sturdivant and Jones only come along once every four years.

My freshman fall quarter (Kinda dates me, huh?) was a months long booze fest. My biggest responsibility was to get to my 1st period calculus class (HUGE mistake in scheduling!) in time to get a desk rather than have to sit on that cold floor in the GSRC. Give the young man a break – I don’t know if I could’ve survived the first quarter academically and played SEC football. (I thought about walking on, but even in the fall of 1971 those suckers were humongous!)

Great point RD. Chip, please keep RD’s comments in the back of your mind if you ever interview a person familiar with the offense.
There is never mis-direction with the running game. It is the UGA QB pointing toward the running back as he runs back to hand off. Very sluggish way to run the ball, not crisp at all.

It’s good to see he is taking some accountability for the mistakes he made. The comment he made about not changing anything is just the way some men are taught. We are taught to never regret anything and that things happen for a reason. Some of you live and die with these blogs not knowing who is doing the typing on the other end. Stop believing everything you read. You have people who will say anything and put out all sorts of rumors just because. The sad thing is when some journalist approach these kids and ask them about rumors. If it wasnt in his head, they sure put it there.
IC will be fine. He means too much to this program to give up now. What I find funny is how his best friend Quintavious Harrow was suppose to be a package deal or throw in to land IC. The boy has taken advantage of this opportunity. He made the hit of the year when he laid out the kid in the Auburn game. He even won a post season award for his hard work and dedication. To me, that was a nice story no one talks about. He did what your suppose to do when you have an opportunity. You work hard and when its time, you bust the door wide open. Im proud of him and hopefully his success will fuel his best buddy. I think it has. Go Dawgs!

Lots of pressure goes with being the latest in the long line of “the next Herschel Walker.” The key is, IC sounds like he is focused, learning from all of this, and trying to mature. You have to like his attitude better than that of his predecessors (i.e. It’s all about me Ealey, or poor work ethic King.)
Adding depth with Marshall, and hopefully Davis and/or Gurley should make 2012 an even better season in terms of RB production.

In the drywall business, there is a term used, ” you gotta walk it up, not talk it up”……I hope he means it. A IC dedicated to the team with a good attitude would really help this Georgia team next year. If all 17 starters mentioned in a earlier article come back, next year could be real special, say 11-1 at the worst. Carolina brings back a load also. History say’s as the season goes, Georgia gets stronger and Carolina get weaker. Looks like we’ll get a rematch LSU next year.

Hope this ‘interview’ is a sign that the kid is coming around…although for him to say that he wouldn’t change anything about this first season is idiotic, starting with whatever he did to draw the suspension and ending with his ‘turning his back’ on Richt following his ‘off-setting’ penalty that cost Georgia a chance to score. Given that we’ve all gotten used to politicians ’saying what they think we want to hear’, I suppose that he’s ‘learning’. Bottom line, the one comment that I wonder about is his desire to ‘chill out’…I mean just what does he call it when he’s buying those ‘blunts’ with his buddies if not ‘chilling out’?

Crowell has all this talent and doesn’t appreciate it. Many kids would give anything to have had the opportunity he has had. An “energy vampire” would never play for a Nick Saban team, even if he was very talented. In fact, I believe their system detects this at the high school level, and such a person would not be recruited in the first place. After the problems we have had with running backs at UGA in the last few years, I believe the coaching staff is getting better at detecting this flaw in team management, and I expect nothing but great, hard working, team oriented, recruits in the future.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: we set Crowell up to an impossible standard, and he failed to meet it. It doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. Quite the opposite, you can tell that he’s a VERY good player (as well as one of the KEY reasons we won 10 games so far this year), he’s just hit a few bumps his first year in the college game.
I mean, for goodness sake, we were counting on a TRUE FRESHMAN to help carry our offense this year. Yeah, freshman have (and will continue to) contribute to teams across the nation, but you can’t expect them to come in and be perfect right off the bat, especially when the depth chart is so thin that you’re using walk-ons: I’m not saying that walk-ons can’t or shouldn’t play, but when you have to play them due to attrition at the position, things aren’t quite right.
Yes, Crowell has room to improve: EVERY player has room to improve, but I think he’s gotten a good feel for how things are in the SEC (both on and off the field), and he’ll definitely play up to his potential next season.
And yes, getting more highly-touted backs like Marshall will only HELP his development. Competition is ALWAYS a good thing. It brings out the best in players, and we haven’t even begun to see Crowell’s best.
Keep it up, IC!

Samuels is headed for LB or FB. I would guess LB. Malcome/Crowell/Marshall will be the 3 in the rotation at RB. We will also get Davis and or Gurley. This will be a major talent upgrade folks.

Always amusing to read the comments from the mouthbreathers on this forum that ‘aren’t sold on Crowell’. As if your opinions matter in the least. Do you hold yourself to the same lofty standards you do this kid in your personal and professional lives? Hell, I’d bet half of you are unemployed.
Crowell is a young kid. He has a lot of maturing to do. He’s not there yet. But he also doesn’t deserve the ridicule he’s received from a lot of folks over the course of this past season.

If Georgia is to be a good team next year, it has to start now with the Bowl game. Everyone must bond together regardless of the side of the ball you are on- it will take a total team effort, as Michigan State is a very good football team.
I wish Crowell the very best, and I am pulling for him and Malcome and Samuels to really step up and do what they have shown they’re capable of doing and that’s to run hard and with unwaivable determination.
I for one, am very proud of this team and I would like to ask all the fans of Georgia to put aside all the plots and sub-plots of this year and get behind this team. As a team these players have accomplished a lot and if we will just get behind them, there’s a good chance the juniors will come back and top recruits will see a good reason to come to Georgia!
Congradulations to the players and coaches and it’s good to see that Crowell is taking to heart a desire to be better. Could you imagine what he would have been able too accomplish had he had been healthy?
We still need Herschel as an assistant conditioning coach and assistant running backs coach. His presence in the locker room and training facility would be a role model of what it takes to give 110% to being physically fit and ready to play!
If you agree with the above assessment, then let it be known on this blog. If not, then let that be known!
Congradulations to the freshmen(s) and all the players for a solid year. Best of luck to the all the seniors, I hope all get drafted and an opportunity to play in the NFL. Congradulations to all who were recognized with awards and to all that weren’t, we love all of you for choosing Georgia and THANKS!!!
To this year recruiting class, Georgia needs you and although you could have went anywhere, as a fan thanks for choosing UGA!!!!!
LETS GET BEHIND THIS TEAM AS A TOTAL FAN BASE WITHOUT ONE DISCENT! WE MUST ALL REALIZE THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR GREATNESS AT GEORGIA FOR MANY YEARS TO COME, WITH EVERYONE COMING TOGETHER, THE COACHES, THE TEAM, NEW RECRUITS, WRITERS, FANS AND UGA “THE DAWG”!
I believe the “Junkyard Dawgs” may be in the house!! Overly optimistic? Maybe? But then again, maybe not!Again Thanks and best of luck in the bowl game!

Actually Isaiah Crowell’s final two choices were Alabama and UGA and he chose UGA over his parent’s wishes for him to attend Alabama. I have been frustrated with Isaiah this year also, but we need to remember he is a true freshman. We all helped to anoint him as the Savior of UGA football and no one could have possibly lived up to the expectations we all placed on him. With all that said CMR needs to place some solid boundaries around Crowell for future conduct and help him be accountable.

How big of a LOSER do you have to be to read through an article and dissect every little thing an 18 year old kid says? You morons need to get laid or something. Obviously you have nothing better to do. IC will be just fine. The Bulldog Nation is still behind him, despite his missteps. At the end of the day he’s still a freshman and has a lot of learning to do, but I believe he’ll end up being one of the greatest RBs to come through Athens.

Guys, keep in mind that he is only a freshman. Not many are put in the position of being a savior of a football prorgram. Crowell was hyped coming into the season. He did a very good job as a freshman. If King and Ealey had been on the team Crowell would not have been thrust into the #1 RB position so soon.
The running back stable was bare. Samuel was not going to be the answer (he consistently was getting tripped). Samuels is a absolute physical specimen (6′2″ 245 lb). With Marshal, Crowell, Malcombe and (Gurley, Davis) GA will have a stable of backs. Samuel would make a better FB.

He needed Nick Saban more than Saban needed him. Saban knows it is tough making the transition from high school to college. He does not allow freshman to speak to the media. That way they can’t say something they will regret. It takes some of the pressure of them. Secondly, he rarely starts freshman unless he has no choice. They learn from the guy ahead of him. Thirdly, they have little time to get into trouble, they have to work all the time. The only time they get into trouble is when they go home. And yes, if the kid can’t or will not adapt, he is shown the transfer door. Nick generally takes responsibility for all the kids. The parents damn sure love him.

“Lattimore has played 2 half seasons ”
Geez, that is as about as uninformed statement as I have seen by a local beaner who obviously has no clue about college football.
It is almost as bad as the certainity of the local beaners last season that Samuels and King then Ealey were actually bigger, better versions of the Lattimore kid and the Richardson back at Bama. And by joy they had the “stats to prove it”.
Look Crowell isn’t going anywhere because without him, the UGA RB crew is a distant worst in the SEC. And with the losses on the OL UGA has to have Crowell in order to not get Murray killed, but it is going to be an exasperating, tension filled summer\fall camp nursing him to the first game.
Nobody will feel comfortable until he is on the bus to the stadium.

There’s a reason teams like Florida and the Ohio States schedule a couple of cupcakes to start the season. Beside the easy wins, it gives the freshman players a chance to come up to the speed of the game. Crowell played against two of the better defensive teams we play in Boise State and South Carolina to start the season. I have to imagine he was pretty beat up physically after those two games. And then Bobo runs him about 25 in the next game. It probably was out of necessity, but it took a toll on Crowell .
Lattimore in 2012?
December 19th, 2011
10:16 am
Lattimore vs UGA in 2012 will be slowed by his badly blown out knee (s) and will not want to rush it up. No, his future is in the NFL and his family will be telling him to go slowly, take it easy and come Feb 2013 …………………show me ( us ) the money.
In 2012 vs UGA, he will not be a factor and in fact, SC with the now swirling NCAA violations scandal on players receiving “comp” lodging in some swanky digs AND A LIMO with driver …………..and their soon to be announced NFL defections ………………. has had its day in the sun. Over it is. Steve knows it too. He has done nothing for SC and he knows that too. One SEC East title in school history ( since they joined the SEC) and that was long ago in 2010.
Lattimore? He will lay low in 2012 to save his $$ wheels. He will not be able to run on UGA in 2012 with 110% healthy wheels anyway. UGA’s D in 2012 will be even better.

Boise and SC’s defense could only be ranked as “okay”. Certainly not of the better defenses in college. Your point is moot. Crowell had/has the normal freshman pangs but his were exacerbated with him being such a high profile. He wasn’t superman, just a talented kid with a lot of hype. That wasn’t his fault. I just hope he grows up some in the off season

people babying these “young men” is what causes most of the issues in college athletics. My son is a first year D1 student athlete and the expectations of how he is to behave on and off the field were made crystal clear before he signed on the dotted line . I truly believe if the athlete has been allowed to get away with things others couldnt get away with because of his athletic ability growing up its going to be very difficult to change that when they move away to college . I have no doubt that CMR laid out the expectations of behavior for crowell and the rest of the dawgs but again these are “young men” at this point and should be expected to conduct themselves in the correct manner. It is a lot at first with classes workouts practice tutoring sessions team meetings and public relations off campus my son goes from 6 am to 9 pm every night just to meet these obligations but it is still a priviledge to do so that very few get to enjoy and i wish they would all appreciate the opportunity they have .

Like I said before, Crowell got most of his stats in high school before half time and sat on the bench the rest of the game because his team was so far ahead. In an ideal situation he would have been red shirted or brought along slowly but due to the RB situation they had to play him. He is not Herschel. There will never be another Herschel. The only thing I have seen CLOSE to Herschel in the last 30 years is Bo Jackson. Crowell is more like Garrison Hearst – speed and elusiveness. If he can get 1/3rd of the carries next year that will be good. The 0-line will be very young unfortunately.

I sometimes wonder what people want. IC was a question mark with all the blog comments, so Chip got an interview with him. IC said the right things and is getting ready for the bowl. He’s trying to learn from his first semester and follow the team leadership. You can read anything you want into this but its your input, not his.
IC was suspended for a game for drugs, and one quarter for some other team rules infraction. Those could have been avoided but they happened and he needs to learn and move on. It sounds like that is his intentions.
The injury is something different. A lineman falls on his leg and gives him a high ankle sprain, leaving little room for a lesson. IC tried to play on it against Tech and couldn’t go, and then he played against LSU while still injured. He pushed himself and his body wasn’t ready. Isn’t that what we want from a player? The willingness to sacrifice for the team?
I have no idea how IC is with academics. I hope he does well, and has a great college experience off the field. Attending UGA should be a combination of learning, growing and having fun. He just needs to remember that as a top recruit and star, he will be under intense scrutiny, and that is the price he pays.

you idiot kool-aid w/ liquor fans need to just shutup and leave this kid alone. I went to the SECCG tape to see what those crybabies were screamin’ lies about IC turning his back on CMR. All I saw was Richt indirectly approaching a group of players while barking out orders. The players all cleared out and headed to the bench with IC being at the rear of the pack. Richt did not act as if he had been disrespected at all. If anything after the penalty, Richt probably told all of them to sit their dumb-arses down on the bench and they ran to to bench in obedience. The dumb delusional fans that lied on IC need to get a life and stop majoring on minors !

Lordy, Lordy, do I detect the faint stench of hypocrisy? All of a sudden we sound like the morons at the NCAA, insisting on preserving the leather-helmeted Ivy League gentleman student/athlete. IC was the No 1 running back in the country last year, because he could run the football, and we wanted him at UGA for that reason alone. If he had lived up to all that hype, no one would be questioning how well he answered questions or how correct his grammar was. Let him grow up, let him learn, and let him fail–if he deserves to–just like the rest of us.

The fans get bashed for simply articulating what they see with their own eyes. From our vantage point, Crowell is a consummate prima donna. If he was just a boring guy not doing his best, no one would be stepping up to make excuses for him. Prima donna’s are quite comfortable with others shielding them from reality. In fact, they expect it. IC won’t “mature” as long as he is coddled …. he’ll get worse just like Washun. From what I took from the interveiw was Crowell is somewhat conceited and sure of himself. But then if he does mature, at least past his freshman year, the football team will certainly be the better for it.
As to him not changing anything from the year, he said everything happens for a reason. To me that mean is is grown up enough to learn from what he did, especially in letting the team down of his selfish attitude. He felt he was to big to be corrected. He found out, not so. Therefore if anything had of been changed, that lesson would not have been learned because it never would have been addressed. All we can do now is wait and see if he’s truely seen the light, or is he lieing? Time will tell.
For me and the bowl game, I’m excited to see Samuel back. My my he looks good. I would build the runners around him. Tough, bad to the bone, and a down hill terror that will hurt ya ifin ya get in front of im. Yep, he impressed me.

Even missing a few games this season the kid still managed to be named SEC Freshman of the year and Freshman All American. Holy smokes! Those are tremendous accomplishments. I think the fans are just a little frustrated because the potential to do so much more was there and appeared to be wasted at times. Hopefully he is maturing and all that potential will show up either at the bowl game and over the next couple of seasons. Good luck to him. I think he did learn a lot this year.

Once again another Georgia idiot shines ! Remember Deliverance was filmed in North Ga.
===============================================================
Dogs Smell, Deliverance was filmed in Georgia, but they had to go to Tennessee to find an inbred mountain man for the rape scene.
Bill McKinney, Born: September 12, 1931 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this is what Burt Reynolds had to say about him,
[On Bill McKinney, with whom he worked in Deliverance (1972)] I thought the other guy, Bill McKinney, was a little bent. I used to get up at five in the morning and see him running nude through the golf course while the sprinklers watered the grass. A strange dude, he moved to L.A. after “Deliverance” and worked in a lot of pictures of Clint Eastwood. He always played sickos, but he played them well. With my dark sense of humor, I was kind of amused by him. But as we got closer to the rape scene, I caught him staring at Ned Beatty in an odd, unnerving way. Ned would see it, and look away.
Terry
December 19th, 2011
3:27 pm
[On the rape scene in Deliverance (1972)] The day before we shot the scene I noticed [Bill McKinney] hovering beside Ned [Ned Beatty] and sat down between them. I wanted him to see I was Ned’s friend. No different than in the script. Then I asked him how he planned to handle the rape scene. McKinney turned out to be a pretty good guy who just took “The Method” way too far. Staring straight at Ned, he whispered, “I’ve always wanted to try that. Always have.” Ned shouted, “John! Oh, John!” In his brilliance, Boorman [John Boorman] reassured Ned but also brought in several additional cameras, knowing Ned wasn’t going to give him a second, third or fourth take. Ned was only going to do the brutal scene once. When it came down to shooting it, ['Herbert Cowboy Coward'] and McKinney were hands-down brilliant. Scared the sh*t out of everybody who saw the movie. People crawled out of the theatre. None of that creepy “squeal, piggy, piggy” stuff was in the script. But McKinney, I swear to God, really wanted to hump Ned. And I think he was going to. He had it up and he was going to bang him. It’s the first and only time I have ever seen camera operators turn their heads away. Finally, I couldn’t stand it anymore. I ran into the scene, dove on McKinney, and pulled him off. Boorman, hot on my tracks, helped hold him down. Ned, who was crying from both rage and fear, found a big stick and started beating him on the head. Half a dozen guys grabbed Ned and pulled him away. We separated the two of them and let things cool off.

I get so sick of everyone excusing stupidty by saying “he’s a kid”. Yeah, and so is 90% of the team and I’ll be darned, a lot of them are freshmen. Malcom Mitchell is a true freshman that didn’t screw up. Chris Conley is a freshman. Heck, there’s a whole roster of freshmen that didn’t screw up or get suspended. There’s a whole bunch of former freshmen that didn’t get suspended.
Crowell did it more than once, too so don’t give me that bull. How dare he say there’s nothing he wouldn’t change. If it was me, maybe I wished I could have run harder, scored more, blocked better, not smoked whatever he smoked…..Every player in the world worth anything wants to get better. Saying there’s nothing he’d change says a lot about his character. Or lack of.
I think the kid has talent and wish he could be a world beater but until he gets his head screwed on and realizes that he is part of a team and has flaws and, more importantly wants to make himself better, he’ll be nothing but a number. Lots of talent, just not the good sense to realize how to use it properly.

the people who keep talkking about how marshall is going to save the day next season i disagree. I think he will turn into a great back. But he doesn’t have the size to lead us in rushing next year. I think he will add a great element to our offense catching passes out of the backfield and add some explosive plays. It will be a team effort running the ball and it will be successful. I say isaiah richard sameul and ken malcome are our 3 main backs with marshall as a third down back. I bet gurley is redshirted and maybe mike davis i dont know

It’s a LONG WAY from Columbus, GA to UGA and the SEC. I.C. has started that journey and he didn’t do too badly on his first season. It is not fair to compare I.C. or anyone to Herschel Walker and what his journey was llike. I am satisfied he did the best he could do under the circumstances and am happy he is a Bulldog. You have to remember that Herschel had guidance from Vince Dooley as well as being a special person.
I.Crowell will get better with time and the team will benefit from the good competition at tail back.

Sammy,
Ealey did a lot more than just show attitude. As for him transferring or being kicked off if that is what you are referring to, he left on his own. He thought he was so good, and he wanted to be the only back UGA used. CMR let him go, because he tries very hard to keep these kids happy and with the proper guidance. If a kid isn’t happy at UGA, he will do all he can to see that kid get’s whatever he needs to make him happy. He wasn’t even close to a team player. I don’t think Ealey did all that great at the FCS school he transferred to this year. He was, I am sure hoping to shine very bright and get noticed by the pro scouts and drafted a lot higher than he will, if he goes pro. Even the NFL looks at such things as coaching of a player and whether or not he will fit in with the team and be a team player.
Crowell is a young kid, who is still growing up but he will be a good RB. I would bet, his team mates have let him know, that he needs to get his act together, so he can become a better team mate. The ball is in his court and my feeling is that he will come back next year, in better shape and more mature.

You are a loser. Your attempt to spin the posts I made is very humerous. I applaud you for your effort. Again the orignal post for your consumption…
If AM had the OL of a LSU/Bama and the talent that each team has at RB AM might have been a Heisman Candidate. Especially with the defense each plays.
Those teams are 3-4 deep of 4-5 star RB and OL. UGA at one point played two Walk-On RB. They played a maligned formed RB who before the season started was a LB. Each back gave there all but what LSU/BAMA have 2-4 deep is without question head and shoulders better than UGA. You give AM that type of weapon out of the backfield and you never know….
Hate all ya like but you only make yourself look like a fool.

The fools on here making comments about the young man’s education are pathetic. Every college football/basketball team in America has players like this except for the Ivy League schools and a few other private schools. The fact is if the kids weren’t gifted athletically, then they would be going to community colleges. That’s what happens when you go to public schools in a poor school system, The education is a joke. For every Keith Marshall with 4.3 GPA coming out of high school there 15-20 others with a GPA below 3.0. For the critics, did you grow up in Columbus, Georgia and go to Carver High School? I don’t recall either Crowell or Keith Marshall say they were coming to UGA to be on the dean’s list although Marshall probably will. They came to play SEC football in order to get them prepared for the NFL. If he was a business management or accounting major I would be worried but since he is a football player I am not surprised.

Sometimes young people know the decisions they make are wrong and still make the wrong decision. The thing is that if the young person keeps making the wrong decisions he or she will not move forward but usually get in their own way of success.
The pressure was on IC, and IC did not handle it very well. The next step of his progression will be how he moves forward from this point on.

You have a lot of people behind you Isaiah that understand that just going to college as a freshmen is difficult but to do it and play football at the highest level with so much expectations, it is very difficult to deal with. Heck even Herschel almost quit it was so tough! He was out the door and changed his mind. You get no redshirt to get adjusted and focus on school nd then you have what feels like the entire country commenting and reading on your every move and then if things dont go as well as hoped for, you go from hero to trash in a second! Its not fair I know but it will grow you up if you dont listen to it and you dont let it pressure you. You are doing the BEST thing if in fact you are not paying ANY attention to any of these people. There is a hateful and cynical world out here full of ignorant, selfish and mean people so I hope that is what you are doing, not paying any attention to them! You just hand in there and things will get easier and easier. I speak blessings over you brother of peace, thick-skin, health and focus to be on your priorities and that you will be strong when temptation comes your way. Enjoy the break and have a GREAT BOWL GAME and shut all these intolerant and ignorant people up! You are a Freshman All-American! SEC Freshman of the year! You didnt even play but half the time. Next year you will know what to expect and will have a MONSTER year and make all these yahoos eat crow! Bless you Isaiah with your time at UGA and may you become a great man from your time there and under Richt! You are in the right place! You have a LOT of support from UGA fans. TONS!

Sorry, have to disagree. Without a big back in that system the formula does not work. If they were running a spread offense it would be better. Marshall is not the best back in high school this year and various services back that statement up. He is an athlete but unless he bulks up about 15 to 20 pounds of muscle he will have a difficult time staying healthy. IC did not do his summer work since he signed in February. He needs another 15 pounds himself of muscle to stay healthy and take the licks he takes week in and week out. He only got a small taste of what good defenses are like by playing LSU in the SECCG. If he had to play UF, AL, LSU, Ark, AU, he would not be as productive.

Alabama will have 21 graduates on its roster for the BCS championship game against LSU on Jan. 9 in New Orleans.
Eleven Alabama players graduated on Saturday: Undra Billingsley, Robert Lester, John Michael Boswell, Marquis Maze, Brad Smelley, Chris Jordan, Darius Hanks, Dont’a Hightower, DeQuan Menzie, Brandon Lewis and Brandon Gibson, who received his master’s degree.
Ten others graduated before the season: Hardie Buck, Josh Chapman, Nick Gentry, Barrett Jones, Phelon Jones, Alfred McCullough, Morgan Ogilvie, Chris Underwood, William Vlachos and Alex Watkins.
Three former players also earned their degrees during the fall semester: Wesley Neighbors, Milton Talbert and Rob Ezell.
Any kid from any school that gets his degree while playing college football should be commended.

I am a product of Carver High School and quite successful in life, never been in trouble, and very happy with life. I am confident and proud to let others know I stand tall for Carver. Mr. Crowell made a poor judgement call, there’s not many who have not at some point in there lives, Even we older adults still make poor judgement calls yet we call this young man names and make fun of him, WHY? Let him learn from his mistakes without others beating him down, that is not the true Dawg Spirit! Mr. Crowell will mature and will make himself proud. Let him grow in peace, he is determined to show his coaches, team members and the fans that he is a Georgia Bull Dawg!

Of course, his assertion that I did this to him, even in reply, is completely and utterly unfounded and a total lie, which is why he has never shown it. He simply does not like him posting here and then anyone replying to his posts – that well, his post is unfounded.
There is NO EXCUSE for PHYSICAL VIOLENCE threats
REPEATEDLY
including
RIGHT HERE IN THIS BLOG WITH THIS QUOTE.
All he does is PERSONALLY ATTACK ME. Nothing else. Not ever. And, he thinks that in reply that I will what ? Wimp out ? Not put his post back up and DISCUSS IT ? That and this is not a personal threat by me of him. He cannot make that point. I don’t do that. I am a fine graduate of The UGA with Honors, and have NEVER THREATENED ANYONE at ANYTIME as everyone is well-aware since I never have and no one has ever claimed that I have.
This newspaper has a POLICY about PHYSICAL THREATS, which as EVERYONE READILY CAN SEE, he completely and totally admits he practices against me REPEATEDLY.
I put these PHYSICAL THREATS up when he does for all to recall clearly in their minds. His retort to this post, will be MORE OF THE SAME. It is ALL HE DOES, and he feels that I should NOT have this right to raise the issue up in the very blogs where he CONTINUES UNABATED despite total lack of ANY THREAT by me of him.
AGAIN.
GROW UP. THAT ALL YOU GOT ? Come into a discussion of where I am slightly underwhelmed by beating NO ONE THIS SEASON, AGAIN, and the reply from this person ? PHYSICAL THREATS.
How petty.
You’ve got a problem. Your problem is that you believe wrongly that you can post WHATEVER YOU WANT, and that I THEN, CANNOT come back in here, read it, and post it for all to SEE.
That is MY CRIME : That I actually am less than satisfied with 3 fixing to be 4 losses this season, after YEARS of NOT BEATING the top teams. Aaron Murray has SHORT ARMS he said and that AM is 6′0″ tall, he said but that his SHORT ARMS make him appear to be SHORT. Pardon me, 6′0″ is SHORT. Alligator arms makes him more short. He went 0-5 in 2010 vs teams who finished in the top 25, playing at his very worst against them, running up his stats in the other games. He has continued to go on this season 0-3 fixing to be 0-4. He is on this date
0-8
vs teams who finished in the top 25
And, if fixing to go 0-9.
That is UNACCEPTABLE.
Now, you come back in here you little piece of crap, and threaten me with continued physical violence again because in YOUR BLOG, I am NOT ALLOWED TO VOICE THIS OPINION OF MINE that we aren’t VERY IMPRESSIVE.
DIT himself came running in here pre-Florida and stated he thought that Aaron Murray would GIVE THE GAME AWAY to FLORIDA AGAIN. Little did DIT know that Florida would have the worst season since 1979 for Florida at 6-6.

Give this hair thing a break. I don’t think it hindered the Heisman Trophy winner all that much this year do you? I don’t give a darn, if he does his hair in pigtails, if it is what he wants, as long as he comes to play football each Saturday of the season and keeps his butt out of serious trouble when not.
This kid has faced more pressure as an 18 year old, than a lot of the people on here have faced their whole life. You can criticize his play all you want but nobody on these blogs has a right to make stupid comments concerning how he dresses, talks, or anything about his personal life.
He will be a very good player before all is said and done. He will compete with Marshall and anybody else that is a RB next year and he has a step up on the new folks because he knows the offense. With the RB’s they have now and will get, he will not have to carry UGA’s running game entirely on his shoulders. If you ever look at film of him running when he is healthy, you will see the skill set he brings to the table. It is too bad that outsiders from other teams, recognize his value and potential, and not a lot of UGA fans.
Mark my words, this kid is going to be one of the best UGA has had in quite a while. No, he will not be a Herschel Walker, but nobody ever will be again. He doesn’t need to be either, because he has a great deal of ability, but he is no brute back. He will simply finesse you to death, and make a lot of defensive tacklers look silly, when he gets going.
