UGA’s Ben Jones racks up at Bulldogs’ Senior Gala awards banquet

In case you didn’t catch it ( I didn’t as I was on a farm in Blythewood, S.C.), senior Ben Jones was the big winner at the Bulldogs’ annual Senior Gala awards banquet this past Saturday night at the Classic Center in Athens. He took MVP honors and also was named permanent team captain. Interesting to note that Isaiah Crowell, The Associated Press SEC Freshman of the Year, did not receive any awards, but his cousin, Quintavius Harrow, did. Here’s what individual awards were handed out (the Governor’s Trophy for beating Georgia Tech was also presented):

  • Vince Dooley Most Valuable Player of the Year Award: C Ben Jones, Sr.
  • Most Valuable Offensive Player: QB Aaron Murray, So.
  • Most Valuable Defensive Player: LB Jarvis Jones, So.
  • Most Valuable Special Teams Player(s): P Drew Butler, Sr.; LB Kosta Vavlas, RFr.
  • David Jacobs Award (for courage, spirit, character and determination): G Chris Burnette, RFr.; LB Alec Ogletree, So.
  • Permanent Team Captain: C Ben Jones, Sr.
  • Offensive Captains: TE Orson Charles, Jr.; OT Cordy Glenn, Sr.
  • Defensive Captains: CB Brandon Boykin, Sr.; LB Jarvis Jones, So.
  • Leon Farmer Award (for strength and conditioning): Boykin and Jones.

SSI, I bet you’d never believe that UF fans coined that saying.

Ah . . . the glorious 70s and 80s . . .

I did not see “Con Man of the Year” on the list. I guess they could not decide between Mark “I can win games – just not big games” Richt for trying to justify a contract extension or Mike “I may not be an offensive coach – but I can sure pro-create” Booboo.

Congrats to all the award winners and players that put so much into the program.

One gripe – why mention people that did not get any awards? This should be about people that got what they earned!

negative at costs screed again????

what I said was negative. I complement a UGA player that has shown time after time the ability to get down field and make plays on kick offs. And I question why he isnt given playing time.

Oh thats right I forgot; its ok to ridicule players on here but dont dare say anything about the millionaire coaches that cant win big games but are deserving of contract extensions

Agree on Sailors, he was a force on kick coverage. Ben Jones is and always will be a DGD and will be very hard to replace. @SSI, changing coaching staffs is never easy, The Gators will be good again, maybe not 90’s great, and maybe not Urban great, but very very good again.

I know they did, but for the last twenty years UF did not need it any more so it is on an extended loan to UGA. Thirty-one years and counting.

Hey, two NC in six years is ok with me. If UGA fans were honest with themselves, after thirty-one years of futility, they would give their eye teeth (well, at least those that still have them to give) to have just one NC.

Hope to see Boo Macome get more carries in the bowl game. He certainly ran with alot of heart in a losing effort. Would also like to see Samuel back for one more game this season. As far as IC, he needs to take the rest of this season off and try and heal up and get stronger. Hopefully Marshall will provide a challenge to him and it will allow them both to become good RB’s

It’s always hard to see Good Dawgs go. I am hopeful that Mr. Andrews will be pretty good replacement for Jones; I think he is going to be DGD for the next three years. I agree with Joey @ 4:05 pm, Anderson was not that good. Seems like every time there was a sack or holding penalty he was somewhere in the vicinity. Does anyone know about the progression of Danzler? It seems like no one thinks he will be a player on the offensive line next year. I would have like to have seen him play more. Also, just thinking, it depresses me to think about the two “beast” defensive players, Jenkins and the kid from Grayson (in 2013), being from GA, and apparently GA does not have a reasonable shot at either. Who knows, maybe we can get one of them to change their mind. With all the highly rated defensive players already at AL and those committing, that they would want to come where there is more playing time. At any rate, I am pleased with the year, and the incoming class looks to have some dept on the OL and of course Marshall is just a great get. Merry Christmas to all!!!

BurytheBone,

Is that one of ours to defect or a commit from another school? Bama has eight commits just from the state of Georgia, which equals our own count. We really need to start locking down our borders better. Hope that the slow start is just a reflection of CMR on the hot seat for the early part of the season, and that we may see a stronger finish. It’s early, but #24 ranking looks poor.

SSI, You are correct about the MNC, it would really come in handy.

Whenever we have a down year (like your 2011 year) we could spend our afternoon taunting fans of better teams with the fact that several years back, we won it all!! Look at me!! Pay attention to me!!! I am a fan of the football team for a state university whose football team won the NCAA beauty contest!! I AM important!! My opinion counts more than yours!!!

I find it hard to believe that Blake Sailors didn’t make the Most Valuable Special Teams Players list. He was lights-out on kick-off and punt coverage. Connor Norman was also a really good coverage guy and he deserved to be honored. But, I feel that Sailors should have made the lists as well. He kept us in some good field position battles by making great solo down field tackles.

Bye, Ben. Good luck. Are you reading this Mr. Dimitroff? We need a freaking center. TMc can’t last much longer. Brandon Boyking would also make a damn good Falcon. Oh, well, never mind. We don’t have any draft choices. Isabel, are you reading this stuff? We’re calling you Isabel. Smoke some dope and think about that, go you your OBGYN and trade in your Va JJ for some new parts and be all you can be. And lose the f’n dreadlocks. Or are you too gangsta? You might need a blunt to mull that over. Here’s my final rant about this guy. We’ve seen it before. We’ll see it again. I can’t say I’ll miss when you flunk out, my friend. You came to Athens and gave the Dawgs hope, got busted some weeks later smoking some dope. I’ve seen this movie, you spoiled little pill, and I know how it ends — you’ll not finish the drill.
