Georgia football coach Mark Richt expressed Saturday his gratification over UGA’s desire to extend his contract and intimated that, contrary to reports in Texas, he did not speak with Texas A&M about its coaching job.
“I’ve said many times Georgia is the place I want to be as long as Georgia will have me. That has never changed,” Richt said in a statement. “And it’s gratifying to know Georgia wants me.
“I have not talked to any other school about a job, nor do I have any interest in doing so. My interest is having a great recruiting year and start building toward next season.”
A report Friday in the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle, citing an unnamed source, said Richt was “in the mix” for the Texas A&M job. The papers reported Saturday that Richt declined A&M’s job offer.
UGA athletic director Greg McGarity met with Richt on Friday to open discussions about extending the coach’s contract, which has two years remaining. McGarity said the meeting was planned before the A&M reports, which McGarity dismissed.
McGarity said he had not been contacted by A&M athletic director Bill Byrne and would have been if the Aggies were pursuing Richt.
Late Saturday afternoon, Texas A&M announced the hiring of Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.
McGarity said he and Richt will continue to talk about a contract extension. “He wants to be our coach,” McGarity said. “We want him to be our coach.”
Richt has a 106-37 record at Georgia, but his job appeared in jeopardy when the Bulldogs followed a 6-7 record in 2010 with back-to-back losses to start this season. The Dogs then won 10 consecutive games and the SEC East title.

Georgia better pay richt some serious money quick or he’ll be looking around next year for a big money job. He should be getting the same money as the elite coaches like saban and miles. If not, his camp will be putting out feelers right away.

Not everyone is turned off by Tebow. I actually respect Tebow for his raw emotion he shows in his pressers after the game. He dares to be true to himself and his beliefs. As a UGA fan I could not pull for him during his tenure at Florida, but I still respected him.
Tim Tebow may not be a NFL HOF’er but no matter what he ultimately achieves in the NFL he will not allow himself to be defined by that. He understands more than any other NFL player his place in this world.
We want our children to look first to the parents as role models, but after that Tim Tebow is a athlete in todays generation I certainly would feel comfortable with my son admiring. It goes beyond colleges and stats. In the game of life Tim Tebow is the #1 Draft Pick.

I’m hearing the same thing from Florida fans right now that I’ve heard from Tennessee fans for the last 3 years now: “we just had an off year, we’ll be back and whip your @$$ next year because we’re the mighty (insert team mascot hear)

In the world of NFL Quarterbacks, Tim Tebow has 12 TD passes all sason long. He plays against weak opponents all with losing records in the NFL, and has a great defense to bail out his inability to throw the football in the NFL.
Proud that you think his public displays are not a big turn-off. They are.
He isn’t an NFL Quarterback anymore than was Steve Spurrier or Rex Grossman.

@Lowcountry Bulldawg well said, even being a gator can’t make me dislike Tebow, I think most who have watched him since college would be fine with him as a role model for our sons and heck I’d worry less if he was dating my daughters than some of the guys they did date. Tebow will be a success in life even if he is never a “real” NFL QB.

DawginLex,
Muschamp said he won’t make any decisions until after the bowl game (Jan. 2nd). I’ve neard Bell, Shula, Brain White (our RB coach who used to be Wisconsin’s OC), Todd Monken (Okie State), Jedd Fisch (the U), Al Borges (Meechigan) and Brian Schottenheimer (ex-Gator under Spurrier who is now the Jets OC).
Who really knows, but I think the Gator nation would be pretty disappointed with Shula or Fisch. My choice would be Bell or Schottenheimer. No matter who it is, they’ll have their work cut out, as that was a pretty pathetic offense we put out there this year.

Keep bad-mouthing Tebow. All he’s done is win the SEC East 3 times, 2 SEC titles, 2 BCS crowns, one Heisman and a first round draft choice. Then took over the starting job and has gone 7-1 in the NFL. All this while being true to his faith and helping the poor in the Phillipines through his family’s mission. Yeah, he’s just a loser.

4.29,
If you judge TT season on 12 Td’s then you have to take into account he has played in 8 of the 13 games. If you prorate those 12 TD’s by games it is 1.5 per game. If you then multiply the 1.5 by 13 then it is 19.5 TD passes, rounding up to 20. That would then put him tied for 11th in the NFL tied with Fitzpatrick.
That would then give you a better idea of where those TD passes actually rank him. That is in the upper half of NFL QB’s. Thats not to shabby for a FB playing QB.

He has completed 96 passes in 11 games, not 8. He averages 6.52 yards per pass, one of the worst in the NFL. In fact of 32 Quarterbacks this season, there are only 3 NFL Quarterbacks worse : Colt McCoy of Cleveland, Blaine Gabbart of JAX, and Sam Bradford of St. Louis.
48 % completion rate of his passes is the dead last worst in the NFL.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/quarterbackRating
He has 11 TD passes, 2 interceptions; and has 7 fumbles this season in 94 rushing attempts with only 3 rushing touchdowns.
4-9 Miami he started against *
7-6 Oakland he started against*
5-8 Kansas City he started against
8-5 New York Jets he started against
6-7 San Diego he started against
2-11 Minnesota he started against*
7-6 Chicago he started against
8-5 Detroit he lost to
Only against Minnesota, Oakland and Miami has he thrown more than 1 TD pass. In those 3, he threw 2. They have a 13-27 combined record. In all the other games, he has thrown either one or zero touchdown passes.
When this is in fact, in the top half of the NFL; let me know, ok ?
He has played in twenty (20) games and started 11 in his career. He has 9 rushing touchdowns and 8 fumbles. He has thrown 16 TD with 5 interceptions and has been sacked 29 times with 48 percent completion rate for his entire career for 6.9 yards per pass.
He has 3 games remaining 10-3 New England and two (2) more 5-8 teams Kansas City and Buffalo. He has beat teams who are a combined 39-52 on the season 42 percent win percentage, the bottom half of the NFL, and when the season is over, the combined records of all the teams he beat will be 49-68 a 42 percent win percentage of the teams he won against with his fine Denver Broncos Defense of which he is such a special part, you know ?

I just look at his footwork and lack of completions against the sorriest group of teams he has started against winning only 42 percent of their games, along with the fact that I expect the Quarterback in the NFL to throw for more than 6 yards per pass. Now, if you want to talk about guys -sure he is good guy. There is no doubt on that. But, we have folks in here trying to pass him off as 1 of the very best NFL Quarterbacks because his Denver Defense is so good while he cannot complete half his passes against even this lackluster set of opponents.
4-12 is the record of the Denver Broncos last season. This means that they get the worst easiest cupcake schedule the NFL can possibly put together for them. If you don’t know what you are talking about in NFL schedules, then don’t address the fact that he CANNOT COMPETE as an NFL Quarterback. He NEVER will.
I said the same about Reggie Bush as a Tailback out of Southern California.

Proselytizing, preaching, evangelizing, converting the world to his religion whenever he scores, which is not very often. Why does he not do the same when he doesn’t do diddle-e-squat ? Would it not be his Faith that brought about the results that more than 1 out of every 2 passes go INCOMPLETE from him ?
Tim Tebow credits God for a football victory. He is ostensibly saying that God caused the other team to lose.
He turns religion into the basis for every little thing that happens in his life. When someone criticizes his antics, they’re a tortured soul because they haven’t embraced Jesus to the same extent. When someone criticizes his throwing motion, they’re a hater because they allow his strong-willed personality to cloud their judgment. When someone says his footwork stinks to high heaven, they’re Antichrist.
He isn’t 7-1 because of God, and he isn’t 7-1 because he is the 11th best Quarterback in the NFL.
At the Scouting Combine, the Wonderlic exam is administered to players in groups. The 12-minute test is preceded by some brief instructions and comments from the person administering the test.
Per a league source, after the person administering the test to Tebow’s group had finished, Tebow made a request that the players bow their heads in prayer before taking the 50-question exam.
Said one of the other players in response: “Shut the f up.” Others players in the room then laughed.
He scored a 22 out of 50 on the Wonderlic test. Was God not listening to only him in this NFL exam ?
While Tebow is free to display his faith any way he wants as private citizen, if football fans want religion, they can watch The 700 Club. Some fans just want to watch a football game.
Tim Tebow also gets criticized because at this stage of his development, he is not a good quarterback. Tebow is a fine athlete who is succeeding based on athleticism and an offensive system that is a gimmick. Many fans are turned off on Tebow because they feel that the worship of him is irrational and unjustified.
If criticism of Tim Tebow is off limits because of his faith, then what’s next?
There is no evidence of anti-Christian mainstream media bias, but you have provided plenty of evidence today pro-Christian media bullying is alive and well.
