Richt: ‘I have not talked to any other school about a job’

Georgia football coach Mark Richt expressed Saturday his gratification over UGA’s desire to extend his contract and intimated that, contrary to reports in Texas, he did not speak with Texas A&M about its coaching job.

“I’ve said many times Georgia is the place I want to be as long as Georgia will have me. That has never changed,” Richt said in a statement. “And it’s gratifying to know Georgia wants me.

“I have not talked to any other school about a job, nor do I have any interest in doing so. My interest is having a great recruiting year and start building toward next season.”

A report Friday in the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle, citing an unnamed source, said Richt was “in the mix” for the Texas A&M job. The papers reported Saturday that Richt declined A&M’s job offer.

UGA athletic director Greg McGarity met with Richt on Friday to open discussions about extending the coach’s contract, which has two years remaining. McGarity said the meeting was planned before the A&M reports, which McGarity dismissed.

McGarity said he had not been contacted by A&M athletic director Bill Byrne and would have been if the Aggies were pursuing Richt.

Late Saturday afternoon, Texas A&M announced the hiring of Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.

McGarity said he and Richt will continue to talk about a contract extension. “He wants to be our coach,” McGarity said. “We want him to be our coach.”

Richt has a 106-37 record at Georgia, but his job appeared in jeopardy when the Bulldogs followed a 6-7 record in 2010 with back-to-back losses to start this season. The Dogs then won 10 consecutive games and the SEC East title.

I cannot believe the idiot Georgia fans who want to get rid of Coach Richt. If these retards get their way, we should expect to be the next Ole Miss or Tennessee.

And as far as the A&M thing. CMR doesn’t have an agent but he does have an attorney who helps with these matters. Semantics if you ask me but at any rate I think Richt wants to make sure he and his assts. are taken care of. Not out of greed for himself, but more for recruiting purposes and to lock up CTG. so he let the rumors run wild for a few days just to make sure McGarrity and Adams get the message.

I will have no doubt schools have contacted the agent of Richt. But it is likely true he never spoke with the programs directly, as it is always done that way early in the search. Richt likely message to his agent is ” I am not interested in any position, I like to stay in GA and continue stomping on that high school team at North Ave. there is no greater glory in football than doing that every year”. LOL

Washon, it’s just like SC last year. They were only in because the East sucked. It goes back and fourth. How many years for a while did the East dominate with UGA, UT, and UF? UGA will be a top 10 team next year and if everyone comes back, a top 5 team in 2013.

“Coach Ray Goff’ you sure know college football. A&M just hired Houston coach Sumlin.”

Whew! Good news. I thought for a moment you were going to say A&M just hired sum dum coach Houston Nutt. Coach Richt must have gotten a good deal from McGarity.

I am still baffled by A&M being in the East. So stupid! Why not move Auburn to the East? They can still play Bama. Missouri and A&M make the SEC less powerful.

It’s called leverage, plain and simple. CMR’s agent is just forcing UGA’s hand in presenting a contract extension earlier than they plan on doing it. McGarity probably wants to wait till after the bowl game. CMR’s agent is just pushing the time table up that’s all.

No matter who the coach….

When did UGA become a stepping stone to A@M?

The Georgia job would be a better job if any coach had to make a decision between the two.

Let’s face it CMR doubters, he will be the coach here for awhile because the majority of the fan base and the powers that be are too scared to take a one or two year dip on the path to possibly better things. It’s almost as if no one has ever heard of trying fresh, new ideas. So we can either ride this wave, get on another one, or be through with being invested in it entirely.

As a fan, you still have to take what the team has been handed down to them. If they won against a weak SEC EAST, so be it. Would you rather have a losing record against a weak division??? I am sure not. So just drink the koolaid and enjoy anything you team does in the positive.

If you are satisfied with a 10 win seasons, which is not really all that when you can play up to 14 in a season, then sign him up for a 50 year contract for a billion a year.

If you want more then make a well considered decision not based on emotion and put in a new coach who can raise the bar in Athens.

The point is, they have been rank higher in pre-season ever since the debacle of 2008…lmao. It’s not mean, it’s the truth. And it hurts, bbaaaddd!!!! Why are we all waiting on Boise’s downfall? Ever since they got spanked in Athens, they have ascended as a program ever since. They have the Jim Grobe, 5 year player plan. Red-shirt a guy and let him adjust to the college game and gain some weight. I bet most of their starters next year will be red-shirt juniors and sophomores.

If a fan is not satisfied with a good winning season that was not even expected and despite having no solid and consistent TB’s, even if that team wins all, that fan will still have a complaint etc.

SSI Gator – in your usual lame and uninformed rants you always seem to say one thing and then try and claim another – in no part of the article does it say Richt ever interviewed or was offered the job – it does not have any proof he was ever in College Station and as usual it’s all smoke and mirrors = as are most of your posts. Don’t you Gator fans have enough disasters to fret over in Gainesville to keep you busy? It must suck to be you if all you can think of to do is to try and come over to our board and attempt to spew your pitiful logic and baseless comments on OUR board. GO DAWGS! BEAT MICHIGAN STATE!

Boise is loaded with five year seniors this year – they will be replacing a lot next year. Most of their players are there for 5 years as they are not highly recruited in general. What that means is that while talented SEC players will probably be gone in three years, Boise will have an extra two years to develop their players in their system and to develop them physically. That is where their advantage lies. BYU had a similar advantage because their players went on two year mission trips while in college thus giving them older and more physically mature players.
