Georgia football coach Mark Richt expressed Saturday his gratification over UGA’s desire to extend his contract and intimated that, contrary to reports in Texas, he did not speak with Texas A&M about its coaching job.
“I’ve said many times Georgia is the place I want to be as long as Georgia will have me. That has never changed,” Richt said in a statement. “And it’s gratifying to know Georgia wants me.
“I have not talked to any other school about a job, nor do I have any interest in doing so. My interest is having a great recruiting year and start building toward next season.”
A report Friday in the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle, citing an unnamed source, said Richt was “in the mix” for the Texas A&M job. The papers reported Saturday that Richt declined A&M’s job offer.
UGA athletic director Greg McGarity met with Richt on Friday to open discussions about extending the coach’s contract, which has two years remaining. McGarity said the meeting was planned before the A&M reports, which McGarity dismissed.
McGarity said he had not been contacted by A&M athletic director Bill Byrne and would have been if the Aggies were pursuing Richt.
Late Saturday afternoon, Texas A&M announced the hiring of Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.
McGarity said he and Richt will continue to talk about a contract extension. “He wants to be our coach,” McGarity said. “We want him to be our coach.”
Richt has a 106-37 record at Georgia, but his job appeared in jeopardy when the Bulldogs followed a 6-7 record in 2010 with back-to-back losses to start this season. The Dogs then won 10 consecutive games and the SEC East title.

The Hot Seat - Preview for 2012

Coach Paul Johnson IS on the ESPN Hot Seat Coaches carousel edition for August 2012. Yes, CPJ, who has accomplished nothing, won no titles, only attended one major bowl
(GT’s second major bowl in 42 years) and has not even won a bowl game and has his squad on double, secret probation ……………….is THE HOT SEAT COACH of 2012.
Now, IF his team loses in the Sun Bowl, well these ugly things could accelerate. THE GT TRUST FUND boys are not happy. With Christmas UGA/GT golf outtings forming with the old guard, the mumerings are beingt heard loudly and clearly across the links and at the 19th holes, all around Atlanta.

CMR just tells his agent to get the word out and ack like he is in demand. He has done it for several years. Nobody really is interested in CMR. Last year when he hit rock bottom, his agent was creating
coaching jobs that were not there.
UGA won because ........

UGA won in 2011 because we had a lighter schedule ( it is not Georgia’s fault that AU and UT and GT and Florida,MSU are so lousy) AND THE UGA D team. Period.
UGA’s Defense IS WHY WE WERE GOOD. ALL of the talk about MONEY $$$ should be directed toward CTG OR we could lose him. What I do not want to see is another 4 or 5 year deal tacked on to Richt’s already wonderful package, only to see CTG leave.
PAY CTG as HE IS WHY UGA WAS DECENT !!!

Whisky, you’re drunk. If Richt was fired today, he’d have another job by this time tomorrow.

We know Richt was offered the Texas A & M job, whether it was through his agent, or by phone, isn’t the point.

The Bulldog Nation will rue the day that Richt’s contract was extended. He is not a coach, but rather a PR expert and a talented recruiter.
Once he is comfy again, the Dawgs will fall back to where they have been during the past five years–in the celllar…

Why in the world would Texas A&M want Richt as their coach? We should have helped them out in getting him to sign with the Aggies… We could have thrown Bobo into the deal too.

So Richt’s agent talked with Texas A & M, and expressed enough interest they made him an offer.

Did Richt look at an offer form Texas A & M? no doubt, several newspapers said so. Richt had to cover his bases because McGarity, believe it or not, STILL, hasn’t found the time to get around to Mark Richt’s contract.
Guess Richt isn’t that important to McGarity, or else he would make the time.
