Several former Bulldogs still doing good work for the SEC in Atlanta

Long after their Georgia football careers ended, a group of former Bulldogs are still doing good works for the SEC.

Brothers Matt and Jon Stinchcomb, both All-American offensive linemen while at UGA, teamed up with former quarterbacks David Greene and D.J. Shockley, defensive lineman Quentin Moses and defensive back Kelin Johnson to represent Georgia as part of the third annual Allstate SEC Good Works Day in Atlanta on Thursday. They joined representatives from other SEC schools to help out with several community service projects in East Atlanta.

Working in conjunction with the SEC and Hands on Atlanta, the initiative benefited CHRIS Kids, a local organization that provides safe and stable living environments and offers mental health services for children and families. The Georgia players, along with several volunteers from the SEC and Allstate, wrapped  holiday gifts, prepared lunches, painted murals and landscape the grounds at the CHRIS Kids facility on Fayetteville Road. SEC Commissioner Mike Slive himself was among volunteers.

“That’s one thing I’ve always enjoyed doing, being able to give back,” said Shockley, whose season with the Omaha Nighthawks of the AFL ended just two weeks ago. “I enjoy being able to meet people who wouldn’t normally be able to meet you. They see you on TV and all that but they don’t really know you. I always relish the fact they get to meet the person first and know what I’m about. So I enjoyed it. I was actually in the arts and crafts section so that was a little different for me. But I made the best of it.”

The Georgia football alumni share a unique bond in that all six players were selected to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team during their college careers for their commitment to service and volunteerism. Since the national award began in 1992, no conference has had more student athletes named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team than the SEC.

The SEC and Allstate have partnered in community service projects around Atlanta leading up to the SEC Championship Game since 2009.

It is always good to read that UGA sports athletes who represented our University well in their athletic endeavors continue to represent UGA so well in their service to the benefit of mankind in their life after football.

Well done, Dawgs! You continue to make UGA proud!

Funny, my wife was at a insurance seminar a couple of months ago and David Greene came in and sat right beside her. She talked with him a while, he told her he played at UGA, etc.

She came home and said “do you know a guy named David something that played at UGA?” He said he played QB and went to South Gwinnett.

Funny stuff. Unlike another celebrity sighting I had….Allen Iverson’s ghetto arse pulling his Maybach out of the handicapped space at the Costco at Cumberland Mall…..I kid you ZERO about that….If the kids weren’t in the car, I would have dragged his arse out by his sh*tlocks and beaten him handicapped.

Happy Friday and Go Dawgs.

You know, it is easy for someone to come on here and criticize a player and make is seem as though you are a Dawg. No true Dawg is going to criticize a young man that plays for UGA in such a negative manner. So PAT, why don’t you saunter on down to wherever you come from and find something useful to do. I posted some of the rumors about Crowell from an email I received yesterday about him having a bad couple of practices yesterday. Maybe the players only meeting with him set him in his seat a little. Although, I am just not that optimistic about the kid anymore. Once, I can forgive, but this is running in pattern mode now.

Nice story, Chip. Regardless of the school, you have to be proud of alums who give back to their communities. It really doesn’t matter if they’re former athletes or not. The fact that they are former athletes is a great testimony to the impact coach CMR continues to have on their lives and the lives of current UGA players.

Like I’ve posted here many times in the past, there aren’t enough stories like this in newspapers or on TV.

On 680 yesterday, the Auburn Alum (Chuck) and the that other guy (Chernoff) were making fun of IC saying that he came to practice wearing the dreaded green jersey, and when some coach told him to go ride the stationary bike, IC basically told them NO. Has anyone heard anything about this? I don’t place a lot of stock in the 680 guys, unless it’s Buck saying it. If this is true, then what’s the solution? Kick him off the team?….get the seniors to beat the sh5#!t out of him? Sounds like if there ever was an “Energy Vampire” then IC is the poster child. Wait till Tereshinski gets him in the weight room, if he thinks practice is tough. Sounds like a BAD situation if it’s true!

As for your other wish, I guess it’s typical of a sore loser to hope the next team does to the Dawgs what they could have done to your bugs had they not let up off the gas. Murray could have had 8 TDs with that 8th grade level defense.

2 SEC Championships

December 2nd, 2011
3:15 pm

2002 there only was 1 other SEC team ranked in the Coaches’ Poll Top 25 – a 4-Loss Auburn.

2005 Mark Richt (DJ Shockley) won The SEC Championship Game vs LSU who ended up # 6 in the nation and Alabama ended up # 8 and Georgia Mark Richt ended up # 10 in the nation. Therefore, UGA in 2005 ended up the # 3 best team in The SEC in EVERY POLL for 2005 season.

11th year now, and there is not a legitimate SEC Championship YET. If he beat LSU, he would end up maybe # 12 if he wins the bowl game, maybe # 11. LSU would drop no more than 0 spaces and still be # 1. Alabama would still be # 2. And, Arkansas would still be # 6. The problem is we have this discussion for Chip Towers TODAY – BEFORE The SEC Championship – BECAUSE AFTER THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME UGA will STILL BE RIGHT WHERE WE ARE NOW,

also BEHIND South Carolina in EVERY POLL.

We are the # 5 team in The SEC.

For that Chip Towers states for you that Georgia will give him a big raise from his annual total compensation of three and a half million

$ 3,500,000.00

And, a long-term contract – which is ALREADY FOR TWO (2) MORE YEARS.

For being # 5 in his conference, when of course, he tells YOU he is the # 4 best coach in All of America.

At # 15 in the nation BEFORE HE GETS HIS HAT HANDED TO HIM TOMORROW AFTERNOON ?

Now, go tell me I am a Georgia tek fan. It’s all you got you BIBLE THUMPERS who care not 1 iota about this football program. Just Mark Richt.

He would fit right in at Penn State.

They haven’t done a thing in my lifetime.

You have voided all your credibility to speak. And again, with the Bible Thumpers thing, it’s one thing to talk about a person’s coaching ability or a fan’s knowledge of the game, but a desparaging remark about a person’s Faith is WAY over the line.
