Several former Bulldogs still doing good work for the SEC in Atlanta

Long after their Georgia football careers ended, a group of former Bulldogs are still doing good works for the SEC.

Brothers Matt and Jon Stinchcomb, both All-American offensive linemen while at UGA, teamed up with former quarterbacks David Greene and D.J. Shockley, defensive lineman Quentin Moses and defensive back Kelin Johnson to represent Georgia as part of the third annual Allstate SEC Good Works Day in Atlanta on Thursday. They joined representatives from other SEC schools to help out with several community service projects in East Atlanta.

Working in conjunction with the SEC and Hands on Atlanta, the initiative benefited CHRIS Kids, a local organization that provides safe and stable living environments and offers mental health services for children and families. The Georgia players, along with several volunteers from the SEC and Allstate, wrapped  holiday gifts, prepared lunches, painted murals and landscape the grounds at the CHRIS Kids facility on Fayetteville Road. SEC Commissioner Mike Slive himself was among volunteers.

“That’s one thing I’ve always enjoyed doing, being able to give back,” said Shockley, whose season with the Omaha Nighthawks of the AFL ended just two weeks ago. “I enjoy being able to meet people who wouldn’t normally be able to meet you. They see you on TV and all that but they don’t really know you. I always relish the fact they get to meet the person first and know what I’m about. So I enjoyed it. I was actually in the arts and crafts section so that was a little different for me. But I made the best of it.”

The Georgia football alumni share a unique bond in that all six players were selected to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team during their college careers for their commitment to service and volunteerism. Since the national award began in 1992, no conference has had more student athletes named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team than the SEC.

The SEC and Allstate have partnered in community service projects around Atlanta leading up to the SEC Championship Game since 2009.

Haven’t heard anything to the contrary about IC not playing. Did hear (and no, I don’t know someone who knows someone…) that Jarvis and Alec did a little more than a good “talking to”…

@Larry and Erk – I’m not sure if there will be a Dawg Walk. On the band’s itinerary there is a pep rally inside the GWCC at 1:30 but no mention of the Dawg Walk. The band is supposed to be in their seats at 2:15. Wish I could be there. Go Dawgs!!

Way to lose with class and keep your character .. (all sarcasm here is intentional and pointed). Being UGAs whipping boys must hurt pretty bad to come on here for a positive story and make that kind of post.

2 SEC Championships

December 2nd, 2011
3:15 pm

2002 there only was 1 other SEC team ranked in the Coaches’ Poll Top 25 – a 4-Loss Auburn.

2005 Mark Richt (DJ Shockley) won The SEC Championship Game vs LSU who ended up # 6 in the nation and Alabama ended up # 8 and Georgia Mark Richt ended up # 10 in the nation. Therefore, UGA in 2005 ended up the # 3 best team in The SEC in EVERY POLL for 2005 season.

11th year now, and there is not a legitimate SEC Championship YET. If he beat LSU, he would end up maybe # 12 if he wins the bowl game, maybe # 11. LSU would drop no more than 0 spaces and still be # 1. Alabama would still be # 2. And, Arkansas would still be # 6. The problem is we have this discussion for Chip Towers TODAY – BEFORE The SEC Championship – BECAUSE AFTER THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME UGA will STILL BE RIGHT WHERE WE ARE NOW,

also BEHIND South Carolina in EVERY POLL.

We are the # 5 team in The SEC.

For that Chip Towers states for you that Georgia will give him a big raise from his annual total compensation of three and a half million

$ 3,500,000.00

And, a long-term contract – which is ALREADY FOR TWO (2) MORE YEARS.

For being # 5 in his conference, when of course, he tells YOU he is the # 4 best coach in All of America.

At # 15 in the nation BEFORE HE GETS HIS HAT HANDED TO HIM TOMORROW AFTERNOON ?

Now, go tell me I am a Georgia tek fan. It’s all you got you BIBLE THUMPERS who care not 1 iota about this football program. Just Mark Richt.

He would fit right in at Penn State.

They haven’t done a thing in my lifetime.

StinkTalk’s just remembering that beating LSU put on Tech in the Chick-Fil A Bowl a few years ago. So sad and confused.

Penn State hasnt done anything in your lifetime? So that puts you under 20. Thus making any points you have concerning the state of CMR tenure at UGA completly irrelevant.

Don’t immolate if you cannot imitate.

Teams who get 10-Win Season this season alone :

1-LSU
2-ALABAMA
3-OKLAHOMA STATE
4-STANFORD
5-VIRGINIA TECH
6-ARKANSAS
7-STANFORD
8-OREGON
9-SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
10-HOUSTON
11-BOISE STATE
12-SOUTH CAROLINA
13-WISCONSIN
14-MICHIGAN STATE
15-MICHIGAN
16-KANSAS STATE
17-OKLAHOMA
18-TCU
19-NEBRASKA
20-WEST VIRGINIA
21-CINCINNATI
22-SOUTHERN MISS
23-ARKANSAS STATE
24-CLIMPSUM FARMERS

Yeah Thomas Brown, I guess you’re under 17 actually. Penn State went undefeated in 1994 and finished number 2 in the polls winning the Rose Bowl that year. You have voided all your credibility to speak. And again, with the Bible Thumpers thing, it’s one thing to talk about a person’s coaching ability or a fan’s knowledge of the game, but a desparaging remark about a person’s Faith is WAY over the line. So quit being a little brat and stick to football.

1994 ?

That’s about all you guys remember around here, 1994 and going back to Ray Goff coaching years.

I have friends who were born in 1994. Penn State was good in 1994 ? Really ?

Are you sure ?

1994.

Great Scott.

You’re kidding right ?

I can tell you this, having studied Penn State for some time now. They have SUCKED forever.

Yeah that’s why they beat our 1982 team which was arguably better than the 1980 team but just faced a better team in the sugar Bowl

And it took a heroic goal line stand from bama to keep them from winning another national title in 1979

Yeah they have always been horrible

Try 1986 Silver Anniversary - 25 YEARS AGO Penn State

December 2nd, 2011

1986 yes.

1994 what I see is Nebraska both 1994 and 1995.

In fact, that was the last time Nebraska was any good too.

Since 1995 Nebraska has just played cupcakes.

1986 twenty-five years ago.

What are you trying to build up Penn State now so we all what ?

Run and give Mark Richt 4 million a year for 15 years for coming in 5th place in The SEC beating 0 teams who end up in ANY POLL ?

Oh, I know Lowcountry, he has been doing that to me for a while already. Taking a question I made when I forgot the 2005 Sugar Bowl was played in the Georgia Dome because of Katrina and reposting it. He tried again yesterday with something different but I had to teach him the difference between legal and illegal.

It really isn’t, but we have called him out on probably 100 stupid posts or more and he calls us out on one or two. Four thousand character posts with mindless, poorly spun dribble and weak stats seem to make him “the man” in his book. Obviously from the Penn State post, he is still just a little boy.
