NOTE: These are just my notes from Wednesday’s practice but I thought folks might want to comment on Georgia’s uniform situation. . . .
ATHENS – Georgia coach Mark Richt made a promise to his players before playing Boise State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. If they made it back to the Georgia Dome as SEC Eastern Division champions, he told them then, they could wear their Nike Pro Combat uniforms in the SEC Championship game.
Thankfully, he said on Wednesday, the Bulldogs did not hold him to his promise.
“A couple of them actually said, ‘don’t do it, Coach,” Richt said with a grin.
As a result, “Georgia are red with silver britches,” Richt said following Georgia’s last full-contact workout on Wednesday. “No Pro Combats. Nobody even asked me.”
Georgia hasn’t performed well in recent years when it deviated from its traditional uniform of red helmets, red jerseys and silver pants. They lost to No. 5 Boise State 35-21 while wearing the all-red Pro Combat uniforms on Sept. 3; they lost 41-17 wearing black helmets against Florida in 2009; and they lost 41-30 wearing black jerseys against Alabama in 2008.
LSU is the home team in the SEC title game this year but chose to wear its traditional home white jerseys. That allowed Georgia to don its home red.
Richt did say one unnamed player asked about the possibility of wearing the black jerseys. But he quickly dismissed the notion.
“They think you can snap your finger and get a bunch of brand new jerseys,” Richt said. “That has to be planned out.”
But the Pro Combats remain at the ready.
“They thought were cool,” Richt said of the tight-fitting, mostly-red-and-some-silver ensemble. “I thought that’d be a nice incentive. As it turned out it wasn’t much of an incentive.”
‘As the Tailbacks Turn’
Either Richt is just tired of discussing the subject or there has been a new development in the weekly saga that is Georgia’s tailback rotation. Whatever the case, the previously jovial Richt turned positively dour when he was asked to update the situation Wednesday.
“I don’t want to talk about tailbacks,” Richt said. “I really don’t. Let’s just talk about something else. I was really in a good mood and then you had to ask that. . . . No more tailback questions until after the game.”
Twice-suspended, often-injured starter Isaiah Crowell is trying to make it back from a sprained left ankle the sidelined him for the regular-season finale against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs also have held out hope that backup Richard Samuel could come back this week from Nov. 1 ankle surgery. Two other tailbacks have been subjected to suspensions and four different tailbacks have started this season.
“I don’t blame you for asking really but I don’t have any good answers,” Richt said, “so I’m just not going to answer it.”
Still hope for Tyson
DeAngelo Tyson (ankle) did not practice on Tuesday but Richt said the Bulldogs’ starting defensive end has “got a chance” to play on Saturday.
“Tomorrow we’ll see how much he’s progressed,” Richt said. “There’s a possibility he’ll get practice reps tomorrow, depending on how he starts out and warms up and that kind of thing.”
‘Honey Badger’ speaks
Most of the interview opportunities for LSU players had expired before word of Georgia’s defensive confidence had fully infiltrated the Tigers’ camp. But cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, better known as “Honey Badger,” did talk to the Gannett News Service about it.
Of the assertion by Georgia’s Jarvis Jones that the Bulldogs’ defense was as good if not better than LSU’s, Mathieu said: “He may have a point. I know those guys are going to go out there and play hard, and I’m sure he’s going to play extra hard.”
Known himself as a bit of a bulletin-board tweeter, Mathieu was asked why he did not respond to Jones via Twitter. “It was extremely tough not to,” he said. “But I’ve got to keep my team first.”
Few injuries for LSU
LSU starting free safety Eric Reid (thigh) and backup tailback Alfred Blue (ankle) are expected to be ready after missing the Arkansas game. Starting defensive tackle Michael Brockers (knee) is also expected to play. He played hurt last week.
Practice update
Georgia practiced for two hours in full pads Wednesday on another extremely cold day.
“The colder it is the faster they practice,” Richt said with a laugh. “There is more incentive to stay warm, so they move around quicker. Even when it’s time for a break they’re like, ‘let’s skip the break and go on to the next period.’”
The Bulldogs’ practice ended with temperatures in the low 40s. It was a relatively balmy 60 in Baton Rouge on Wednesday with Thursday expecting to reach 66. Of course, Saturday’s game will be played in 70-degree temperatures inside the Georgia Dome.
Richt said practicing in such cold conditions “could be” an issue for the Bulldogs.
“It will be warm in there,” he said of the Dome. “It was warm last time we were in there and it’ll be humid. I have seen guys cramp up in the Dome before because it does get warm. I can’t imagine it not heating up with all the fans in there.”

After reading some of these posts I had to give my 7 year a call to have some intelligent conversation.
I don’t blame LSU people for being over confident. Let’s be honest, they should be. Most of the people on here talking the crap are not even LSU people. I would guess tek & Bama people all upset because UGA is in the spotlight for the SEC Championship. Why be so bitter? Good luck to the true LSU people out there and here’s hoping for a great game Saturday.

ARdawg, I used to think that too about the “system”. Then I realized every team’s goal should be to win every game. Hit harder, play harder and act like you want to win the game. IF you lose a game you can’t blame the system, blame yourself for losing. Lose and your destiny is out of your hands. Tough but you have to accept that. How many undefeated teams left? Not many.

I’ve always had a good time when down in the bayou TP. An old friend of mine had a great place on the water in Slidell. Right down the road within walking distance, there was this shack that had the best gumbo I’ve ever had served in a bread bowl.
Now, that said…don’t need to see any andouille, but a tiger skin rug will look fine as a backdrop against these [devalued] alligator shoes I got back in early November.

And keep in mind, the word jurisdiction is a LEGAL term. If a student athlete or anyone else on campus is caught using illegal drugs, local law enforcement HAS jurisdiction. They can in turn hand that over to the institution, which it then falls into the hands of the NCAA. NCAA does not and never will have jurisdiction over the LAW. Maybe this one will help you out. The BCS besides being fundamentally flawed, is full of hypocrisy. In 07, Georgia didn’t “deserve” to play in the BCSNC. I am the first to admit that. I even agreed with Saban and the other espn talking heads. We didn’t win our conference. Sounded reasonable enough to me. We didn’t but, I had no doubt we were the best or one of two of the best in the country. We managed to reach #2, kept winning and started dropping. The reasoning at the time was “UGA didn’t win it’s conference”.
Probably what chapsmyass about the BCS is the influence of ESPN. I am no conspiracy theorist mind you but which ever way espn decides, the BCS follows.

ARdawg,
please stop bringing up Dawg in 2007.
You cite that year’s BCS as an example of failure. To the contrary, that’s the year BCS got it right.
The week before conference weekend, dawgs were ranked #4. After the conference weekend when Mizzo and WV both lost, you team was dropped to #5, while SEC Champ LSU leaped over you became #2 and OSU moved to #1.
With a little human touch, BCS got it right that year. Your dawgs had 2 losses including a blow-out by TN, while the SEC-champ LSU lost lost both games in overtime.
If BCS ever picks a 2-loss team with a blow-out & non-conference champ, everybody would cite it as an example of failure. Thank God, BCS has never done that.

If what’s been said above about that ‘unnamed’ RB is so then to hell with him…and whatever they do, don’t let him dress with the team or stand on the sidelines…and just to make sure the camera doesn’t find him in the stands, make sure he isn’t allowed into the Dome. Immature? Hell, I’ve seen three years olds that have better sense. It’s hard to imagine that a young man with so much potential could be that much of a punk..then again I just read the stuff about Day-Rick so it appears that we, the State of Georgia, manages to produce the ‘poster-children’ of petulence.
I said after last Saturday’s game, and after watching Boo Malcome on that last drive, that he, Boo, would be our leading ground-gainer this Saturday. Looks as if he may be the ‘only’ RB worth handing the ball to, so my prediction looks like a lock.

“The reasoning at the time was “UGA didn’t win it’s conference”.”
Like Mark Bradley, the pot stirrer, once again you made it sound that was the only reason voters rejected dawgs in 2007. That’s the 2nd or 3rd or 4th reason in most people’s mind.
Here is my list(I believe it’s for most people as well):
1. You lost 2 games
2. You lost to TN in a blow-out
3. You didn’t go to SECCG
4. LSU was just better than dawgs

If the BCS got it right then, it gets it wrong with this rematch. Please don’t mistake me for bitter, I am not. My point of contention is, there are still 3 other possibilities of conference champs that may deserve a shot here and Bama is none of them

So, you folks who’re better with actual X’s and O’s than me, can a short, west coast style passing game be used in lieu of a running game? Because I’m a little concerned that UGA isn’t going to have much a ground attack Saturday. Seems to me like, while not getting the exact same results as a good play-action game, the short passing game can achieve similar results via pump fakes to draw in the secondary, plus bring the down linemen and corners.

Tell us why. BCS is intended to match 2 best teams. 95% of the voters and computers believe BAMA is number 2.

We don’t have to have a solid running game. Just enough to keep that over pursuing defense honest. Such a great time for an IC to shine. If he played the whole game (yeah I know unlikely) he wouldn’t tote the rock at most 20 times. It’s up to Murray to pick apart that secondary. I imagine LSU will insist on it

Mark Richt you see is the guy who went running to press with his whining and this clique you ran into here would have brown noses if Mark Richt stopped quickly. 2007 Mark Richt lost to SOUTH CAROLINA who was a 6-6 team NOT EVEN IN A BOWL GAME. Yes, we also were blown-out by a vols team questionable at best team. Blow out as you say, too.
LSU 2007 BEAT two (2) teams who ended up Top 10 AP Poll.
Mark Richt beat no one 2007 as he did not 2008 (unless you call Michigan State who did not beat anyone in the Top 25), and as he did not in 2009 except for Georgia tek who ended up # 13 a highly questionable team who lost all their games at the end of the season to have the ACC Chumpionship won the week earlier by South Carolina over Climpsum Farmers and us over Georgia tek, and then 2010 beat no team finishing in the Top 25 and then 2011 no team finishing in the top 25, either.
So, therefore LSU is # 1 for 2007.
Therefore, Mark Richt bless his soul, is # 2. Anyway, the clique is sour grapes about 2007 which was Five (5) Seasons ago.
Instead of recognizing that Alabama should be playing LSU this week, as is done in SEC Basketball NOW TODAY, not this crudola of SEC West Champ vs the # 5 best team in The SEC, us – UGA Bulldogs.

It will be hard Kelly. I don’t know if UGA can get even close to a West Coast style game going that quickly. BSU played the best version of it I have seen in college recently. They will need to still run the ball 15-20 just to keep LSU honest. I think the short to intermediate throws will have to work right from the beginning. As you mentioned earlier, slants, possibly to Mitchell and Conley and some crossing stoff to King (assuming he can keep from dropping the ball) and Charles. Swing passes will work pretty well in lieu of some runs and then there is always the designed QB runs that Murray executes well.
