Jarvis Jones thinks Dogs’ defense just as good as LSU’s, ‘if not better’

ATHENS – It was a simple question that was posed to Georgia’s Jarvis Jones during a teleconference call with reporters on Monday. The sophomore outside linebacker was asked if he thought the Bulldogs’ defense was somewhat overshadowed by LSU’s and how he thought the two units stacked up.

Jones answered it quickly and honestly.

“I mean, everybody praises LSU defense, but I know we’ve got a pretty good defense,” said Jones, the SEC’s leader in quarterback sacks with 13.5. “We’re not cocky at all. We’re just going to play. We do our job and get after it on the field. We like having fun. We love playing football. We’re aggressive. We play just as well as them. A lot of people don’t give us credit [for] how we play. I think we play two different styles.”

Then came the line that caught everybody’s attention.

Said Jones: “I think our defense is just as good as theirs, if not better.”

That statement, tweeted out by several reporters, reverberated all the way to Baton Rouge. LSU wide receiver Russell Shephard quickly noticed it on Twitter and forwarded it to his teammates with the message, “is this guy serious?” That was followed by more than a few “ha-ha’s” and multiple exclamation points.

Suddenly, a little interleague argument has developed between the teams about which one has the best defense. Not surprisingly, Jones’ teammates have come to his defense, so to speak.

“He said it, so I’m going to back him up,” Georgia safety Bacarri Rambo said. “I’m going to be right there with him. That’s my brother, that’s my family, so whatever he says we’re all going to back him up. . . . I also can say I believe we have one of the best defenses in the country, right up there with the LSUs. We have some very talented guys on the defensive side of the ball, too, and I can back it up when I say that.”

Said junior linebacker Christian Robinson: “Look at the numbers. We’re hanging. We’re up there in numbers, too. If we go out there and do what we’re supposed to do on this Saturday, we can end up better than they are not just in the numbers but by winning the game. You don’t want to get into word battles, but if they want to go and say things like [Shephard said], that’s the worse thing to do. There has been a lot of teams that go out there and run their mouth a lot and get beat.”

LSU is ranked slightly ahead of Georgia in every major defensive category and the Tigers have done it against a tougher overall schedule. But the Bulldogs are no slouches. They, too, rank as a Top 10 defense. Following are the latest national rankings:

LSU——-Category———Georgia

2——–Total Def.———-5

4——–Rush Def.———-6

3——-Pass Eff. D———-4

2——–Scoring D———10

6——–Passing D———11

16———Sacks————17

The one thing Georgia feels it may have going for it on Saturday is a more diversified offense. The Tigers are very much a run-first offense while the Bulldogs throw the ball a little more. Georgia feels the Tigers’ propensity for wanting to run the ball straight at opponents with their bevy of big backs and dare them to stop it actually plays into its hands.

“They’re not going to go away from their game scheme, so we’ve just got to bow up,” Georgia safety Bacarri Rambo said. “We’ve got to keep attacking and making tackles and not allow big plays. We know they’re going to run the ball, so we’ve just got to be prepared for it.”

Said Robinson: “I think we’ve shown we can hang with teams that run it. Auburn relied heavily on the run and we shut them down. LSU is not shy about their run game. That’s all they want to do and then they’ve got some receivers that can go get it. So we’ll take the challenge, not in a cocky way, but we can hang. So we’ll be ready.”

Said Jones: “It’s a challenge for us as a defense. But you always want to be challenged and you want to step up accomplish those challenges. So it’s going to be a big day for us and we’re looking forward to it.”

An intriguing matchup just got more intriguing, don’t you think?

thatta way JJ. I don’t have any expectations for this game, but I do feel that we have the ability to play with them. The only difference, I feel, between UGA and LSU is consistency. We play at top tier most of the time, but then fail on special teams occasionally, or huge blown route. They play top tier almost always. Their numbers show that for sure.

Georgia has the talent to keep up. They have shown at times they have the heart. I wish i had more confidence about which team is going to show up, the “good’ Dawg team or the one that played only 1 half each game for a while.

But I can’t wait til Saturday to watch. Looks like the Dawgs are coming to scrap so those little kitty kats from Louisiana better watch out.

I disagree with the comments that only Jones could play for LSU. Olgetree is a first team all SEC talent. If not for the broken foot and missed games, he would be all SEC. Rambo will be named to the first team. Boykin will be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round next April. And, Jones is the best 3/4 outside linebacker in the country. Add to that the scheme fit of the Dl and other LBs, and I believe UGA can play with LSU. My concern is not being out athleted. My concern is the big stage and all UGA’s young players. If they handle the pressure and the spotlight, we have as much overall talent. If they go deer in the headlights, it won’t be pretty. I guess what I am saying is: if the team that played Auburn shows up, we can play with anybody. On the other hand, if the team that played Kentucky shows up, we will lose handily. We’ll just have to wait and see. If we win, I can already hear the talking heads disrespect. LSU had nothing to play for blah blah blah….trust me it will come.

UGA’s defense was ranked in the 70’s after the first 2 games.

Then they played a bunch of nobody and their defense number go up like crazy.

Personally I believe it’s somewhere between 1 and 70, around 30.

Yes, Grantham looks like a genius now. But like somebody said this morning, with BAMA’s offensive line, an average Joe can run pretty well.

Boykin, Rambo and Ogeltree would get significant playing time for LSU? None of those guys would sniff the field on a team with Claiborne, Mathieu, Reid, Brandon Taylor, Ron Brooks and Tharold Simon. Brooks is a backup corner with 2 pick sixes this season.

When will Georgia’s players and fans learn to wait until they actually do something to run their mouths? A few weeks ago Dawg Nation was talking about how sorry this team was and wanting Richt fired, now they’re as good as LSU. There is not a more delusional team or fan base in the nation.

My only concern is whether UGA can last for 4 qtrs. physically. If we can, an not get nailed by a couple of trick plays, our defense will do fine. CTG has yet to be outcouched schematicly. LSU’s offense is not complex. It is very strong.

Biggest fear….BIG Plays. Mathieu #7, with LSU will take the ball from you. Orlson Charles has been holding the ball like a loaf of bread. I just think LSU #7 will turn a big catch and gain by Charles into a trunover. UGA can not turn the ball over and win.

NOT concerned with our defense matching up with LSU’s offense, but am concerned with our Offense against LSU’s opportunistic defense.

UGA/BOBO has used the backdoor pass (purposely thrown behing/short of the WR) a lot this year. LSU will be ready and their safety will pick it off. LSU will press us man-man, and Bobo will try that pass play and they will bait us into it.

While I think BOBO has done much better with calling plays this year. LSU will force him to go to the well one too many times.

I am so proud of our dogs, but they arent at LSU’s level yet. However, I was there in 05, when we were and underdog. It was great. I hope it happens again. GO Dawgs. And great job CMR and CTG.

THE REAL PHIL

November 29th, 2011
10:42 am

The attitude of the defense, not just JJ is perfect for a football team. Not arrogant, confident with am affinity for challenges and a true belief that they have the ability to reach that challenge. It’s also what has been lacking from the UGA football team for a long time. Credit CTG for an excellent job not only schematically but mentally. When you can yell and scream at your players and they love you and have the belief you are looking out for them and want the best for them, you are doing things right as a football coach. There is obviously much more to CTG and his relationships with his players than the screaming we see on the sideline from time to time.

Can you imagine how good this team would be if AJ and Houston had stayed? I believe that keeping your best players for 4 years is very important and I am not quite sure how to do that. But its an area that needs to have maximum effort applied to. Probably the bad record last year and the coach on the hot seat had lots to do with it as far as last year is concerned but it happens to all teams even after good years.

Not sure if we can beat LSU or not. I think that our defense is comparable to Alabama’s right now and if it’s clicking our offense is better. Someone mentioned consistency and I think that is what we lack. If UGA plays to its ability we can compete if they don’t it won’t be good.

I love how Jarvis Jones continues to show it on and off the field. The guy is a player, and I am glad he finally chose to become a Bulldog. I personally feel as if LSU’s defense is better, just like the statistics show, but one busted play in our favor and we can win a close game if our guys play 4 complete quarters. Just look at how Alabama’s defense did against Georgia Southern, and they kept their starters in well into the 4th quarter, so any defense can be penetrated, and with their shaky offense with Jefferson at the helm, our 3-4 can maintain the run between the tackles if our guys stick to their assignments and not allow LSU’s athleticism get them out of position. What Kool-Aid do you speak of? The statistics are there that Georgia’s defense is pretty good and up there with LSU and Alabama’s. Yes, LSU has played way better competition than Georgia, but you can only play the games on the schedule, not the ones every fan wants to see to settle arguments. Georgia has performed well enough to be a Top 10 defense, and it is splitting hairs down the line with the differences between some of those. Georgia’s offense has a hell of a task ahead of them, but I think Georgia’s defense can run with LSU’s offense, which is not to near the same level as their own defense.

The fact that UGA has won 10 games in a row means nothing apparently. IF they lose to LSU then I have to watch Michigan v.s. Houston??? Are you serious??? Or I can watch VaTech/WVU??? Or I can watch a rematch for the MNC??? I think I’ll take up tap dancing this bowl season.

UGA can’t play for the MNC a few years back because they didn’t even play for their conference but now BAma can? So if Bama wins the game on the 9th are they going to share the trophy since they each beat eachother??

Guess what, most of the SEC’s defenses are actually pretty good Florida,’s was 17th before they played Fl. St. Miss. St. in the top 25 , .Also despite the ranking of Arkansas, obviously weren’t as good as their #3 ranking and now #8, they have the 40th ranked defense and 80th rushing offense, We are much bettter than that and I believe this game will be decided in the fourth quarter. .

Jarvis Jones is very likely the best defensive player in the country. He can not only only voice his opinion, he can do it with authority.

UGA defense has the numbers to prove it. They can state it and they can back it up. Are they as good or better than LSU? We’ll see come Saturday. I believe that they are. You can compare schedules until the cows come home but it won’t make a bit of difference.

Georgia’s defense didn’t just wake up one day and were good. Through some trial and tribulation they have learn to be a solid unit. Stopping LSU for 4 quarters by anyone has proven difficult. That doesn’t mean it can’t or won’t be done. UGA has the depth. Do we have enough, we’ll see on Saturday. I believe we do but thats not as important as the Defense believing we do. Early successes on defense will be the momentum builder. Georgia’s defense does get stronger as the game progresses.

Go for it Jarvis. Make it happen

Matt,

not sure what you are complaining about. The BCS is pretty consistent.

About your Houston/Boise/UGA comparison, they all have weak schedule. None of them play in NC, even the undefeated Houston. Houston/Boise rank higher than UGA as they should.

About this year’s BAMA and 07 UGA. BCSCG only play the 2 best team in the nation. This year’s BAMA is the 2nd best. Almost all voters say so and even all computers say so. You are maybe among 5% of population that don’t think so, but you are entitled to your opinion.

Was 97 UGA the 2nd best team that year? No. They lost to SC, blown out by TN, compared to this year’s BAMA that only lost to the #1 team in the nation in overtime.

BCS is not perfect. But it does a fairly good job as designed.

What do you think is important ? To discuss 1 area where we do well ?

November 29th, 2011
11:22 am

Yeah, but our secondary is not as good as their secondary. Our punt coverage sucks. Our kick-off return coverage sucks. We have no clue what to call on 3rd and long we will face all night. We have no TB. We have no FB. Our offense fumbles and throws interceptions. We don’t score in the Red Zone. Our Quarterback gets sacked. And, every one of these areas of the game LSU is absolutely fantastic at compared to us. When you add in that Les Miles has 82 percent wins since he started at LSU and Mark Richt 10 percent worse win percentage overall since the day Les Miles took over at LSU, and 10 percent worse than Les Miles in The SEC and add in that Mark Richt has not beat more teams all 11 years who finish in the AP Poll Top 10 than LSU’s Les Miles ALREADY HAS this year alone…

Well, what our Defensive Stats are compared to their defensive stats when Mark Richt has LOST every game vs every team finishing this season in the top 25 while LSU beat 3 teams ending in the top 10 already with another coming up Jan 9th and another top 25 win too, I hardly think what our defense can do is what this GAME is all about.

Until Georgia can start winning the Line of scrimmage they can’t hope to win a game like this, they could not run the ball last week against tech. They fell from no. 2 against the run to no. 6 after playing tech what do you think is going to happen when they go against LSU offensive and defensive lines? Until Georgia starts recruiting or coaching up their offensive lines they can have all the 5 star skill players they want.

Whether or not any of us would have made these comments, JJ has the right to be proud of the job the defense has done. They have won 10 in a row after being thrown to the wolves after the first two losses. The team’s ability to come together, refocus, and win has been inspirational. This is the end of a season, if he wants to talk up his team a bit (and honestly in a very non-confrontational manner) he has the right to. Of course no-one has any clue what WILL happen at the game but until then, I for one will just be excited they are playing in the SECCG and have an extra weekend of boozing with friends while we watch our DAWGS!!!

The thing that I think people are overlooking about LSU is their turnover margin. Offensively, they don’t turn the ball over, with only 8 this season. However, they have forced 27 turnovers this year, creating margin of 19, or greater than +1.5/gm. Georgia has turned the ball over 19 times this year, and has yet to play a defense near the caliber of LSU. Georgia needs to focus on keeping possession. You see from above LSU has the #2 scoring defense in the country, but that doesn’t take into account the turnovers they create in opponents territory, giving their offense a short field. Their special teams are good and are very capable of flipping the field. The defense is capable of putting Georgia in 3rd and longs, potentially causing Murray to force some throws which could lead to a turnover, and even worse, a pick 6. Be careful Jarvis when you run your mouth, because they just beat Arkansas worse than you beat Kentucky at home.

“There seems to be somewhat of a rattle by the talking heads that nobody can compare or compete with LSU or Bama defense.”

It’s not just the talking heads, it’s the coaches around the country who watch them on tape and play against them and anybody who has watched them throughout the season. Gary Danielson said before they played that LSU and Alabama had 10 defensive backs between them who would play in the NFL, not just be on a roster, but play in the next couple of years. And their front sevens are just as dominant. They’re the best 2 defenses in college football not just this year, but in many years. Georgia’s defense is much improved but we’re talking apples and oranges. I recall Kellen Moore of Boise State standing in the pocket and picking the Dawgs defense apart. He could have played the game in a tuxedo. Nobody has or will do that against the LSU or Alabama defenses. Ask Derrick Dooley, whose team played all 3, how he thinks the defenses of LSU, Alabama and Georgia compare.

Here’s why:
#1 – UGA played a MUCH EASIER SCHEDULE than the above mentioned teams
#2 – UGA D line is no where near as disruptive as the above mentioned teams – so it puts pressure on secondary; Just wait for the NFL drafts and every one of you UGA fans will see the truth
#3 – Coming back to that easier schedule – UGA barely beat Vandy/Tenn/UF

Hea Dilusional, it is your team that had no chance against the mighty Dawgs. And you will have no chance again next year either. It must be a sad existance knowing you have no chance against your biggest rival. Clean Old Fashion Hate isn ‘t even a good rivalry anymore. It is just another easy win on the schedule for UGA.

LSU: Kentuky 35-5, FL 41-11, TN 38-7, Miss 52-3
UGA: Kentuky 19-10, FL 24-20, TN 20-12, Miss 27-13

If you only look at these 4 common opponents, UGA gives up twice(2.1 to be exact) as many points as LSU does (55 vs 26), while LSU scores about twice(1.8 to be exact) as many points as UGA does (166 vs 90).

All 2 considered, LSU is about 4 times as good as UGA. These scores predict a final 40-13 SECCG score between LSU and UGA.

Aren’t stats for losers?

Do you feel better now? I mean seriously. You compared all those conference winning percentages so you MUST feel so much better. I mean, if that’s what it takes to feel better after MISSING THE POINT ALTOGETHER! Spin it how you want. I can’t believe though you did all that work and didn’t at least post the actual records versus all those conferences.

TampaDawg, Les Miles will NOT have losing record to Mark Richt 4 days from now. Hit while iron is hot.

November 29th, 2011
12:06 pm

You cannot compare our defense to LSU’s defense and call that a comparison any more than you can compare Les Miles 1 win to Mark Richt’s 2 wins, to-date, and call that a comparison of what the 2 coaches are doing in the same timeframe in the same conference, either.

There is more to this game than our defense and their defense, and in all other areas, LSU is the bomb and we are the red-headed step child.

Just as if you compare what Les Miles has done at LSU starting 2005 with what Mark Richt has done starting 2005, if you try to say Richt is 2-1 and has a winning record vs Les Miles, well that goes away Saturday; and moreover there is a lot more to what Les Miles has done not only this year but the entire time starting 2005 at LSU.

Stats are for anyone looking to support a baseless claim. Why do you persist with them? Scores of common opponents mean dic. Especially when you wish to cherry pick them. Look at AU’s score a lone. Now who’s better?

ARdawg,

Usually when people do stats they would ignore a number that’s totally out of the ball park. Maybe I should ignore MS as well. Without MS, LSU may be 2-3 times as good as UGA, which may predict a final score of 40-17.

Do you not understand that some teams just match up well against others regardless of records or anything else? LSU is a GREAT team. I have NEVER disputed that. But they were a great team in 2005 too beating 4 of 5 ranked opponents prior to playing UGA. But that’s why they actually line up and play the game. Because when it comes down to it, records, stats, the size of the players, none of that matters more than the scoreboard at the end of the game.

I’m not trying to bust your bawls here dude. Just point out that final scores of common opponents are not relative to the discussion. Predicting a score of this game based on those? Too many variables. They don’t compute. Based on MST and AU, Georgia would be better than LSU. Do you believe that? Factor in the other scores and LSU is better. Fact is, those scores are meaningless in comparisons to the effect of like defenses to like offenses and vice-versa. These stats clearly give LSU the edge but not near as great as you are predicting. The fallacy there is, stats don’t tell you everything

It doesn’t matter what teams you substitute. If you want to dive into that then let’s take out the BSU game because two of our big three playmakers on D were out. For that matter take out the USC game also because one of the big three were out and our offense left USC in position to score multiple times with turnovers and 3 and outs.

There is not a more focused team in the country and they play with a swagger and confidence that Ga has not seen this year. Barring turnovers by LSU this one won’t be close. If Ga turns it over it could get ugly. I predict 27-13 Tigers.

I don’t care what the stats are and I don’t care who they played and we played. We beat 10 teams in a row and that is hard no matter who you are playing. I think we have just as much talent as they do and are now finally using it like we are suppose to. I think this is the most balanced offense LSU has played all year with the largest O-line. Bama is a one dimensional offense. It is 90% Trent Richardson. Stop him you stop Alabama. Bama was #25 in offense for the year. The only teams that ranked lower in passing yards a game in the top 25 was Air force and Georgia Tech. Two option teams. Arkansas was a passing team that did not run the ball much. Georgia has a better defense than Arkansas does. I think maybe outside of Oregon this is the best most balanced offense that LSU has played all year and has a better defense than Oregon. This is more of a challenge for LSU than the media and LSU realizes.

DP——- Talking about drinking the Kool Aid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Georgia’s front three on defense are all first round picks and better than LSU and Alabama. The linebackers have two first rounders in Jones and Olgeltree. The other two are good players and possible pro’s. Cornelius Washington at 6′ 4″ 280lbs is our hybrid ouside LB / DE. He is also a pro. The defensive backs consist of Boykin a 2nd round pick, Cummings a 2nd or third round pick, Rambo a 3rd round pick ans williams a late round pick. I agree your defensive backs are better and deeper but only four will play. If you try the 6 CB package on Georgia they will gut you on the run. If you think it was hard to run on Bama wait till you see our 8 player deep dl. The smallest is around 310lbs. Your OL relies on mann to man blocking. It want happen against this front. To run you will need Tight Ends and fullbacks allowing us to box in and attack your highschool QB.

Les Miles came to LSU as an ACCOMPLISHED HEAD COACH 2005

November 29th, 2011
12:46 pm

Mark Richt came here 11 years ago, not recognizing that a head coach has to HIRE A STAFF, for example. His staff decisions include : Me in here telling him to HIRE CHIEF from the vols as Defensive Coordinator. Mark Richt told us all that he was KEEPING WILLIE MARTINEZ instead.

Another example is getting his team focused vs teams everyone knows is ending the season in the top 10. Les Miles has 9 such wins already since just 2005, while Mark Richt has 3 such wins in 11 years.

Les Miles has 1 NC already head-to-head with Mark Richt.

Les Miles DOES NOT PLAY WALK-ONS on Special Teams. Mark Richt does. Think it will show up Saturday night, or do we have to WAIT until Saturday night when I get off the MARTA at home to discuss that, either ?

Les Miles has FIVE (5) RUNNING BACKS who have run FIVE (5) touchdowns in against all 4 teams finishing the season in the top 25 they have played, beating all 4.

Mark Richt ran off all his Running Backs you gave him such CREDIT FOR RECRUITING HERE, and has NO RUNNING BACK better than ALL FIVE (5) Les Miles will run in touchdowns against Mark Richt with Saturday night.

Our Offense has fumbled the football and thrown interceptions all year against a FAR LESS TOUGH SCHEDULE than LSU has played, who has not fumbled the football nor thrown interceptions. Do we have to wait for me to get home from the game to see the difference in this Saturday night, either ?

Do I have to wait for us to get back from the game, to discuss what Les Miles does in the Red Zone Saturday night compared to what Mark Richt does in the Red Zone Saturday night ?

You said the same to me pre-season that couldn’t I just wait until Boise State beat us, and that we would beat South Carolina, you told me. You told me that the NCAA has NO JURISDICTION in the NCAA Drug Tests, that it was local police ONLY. You said you have special skills and knowledge in this very area. You said that slander is illegal in 50 states and said I could not say that Isaiah Crowell failed the Drug Test when the results were sent to the NCAA Drug Testing Labs; only problem with that is MARK RICHT SAID IT WAS A FAILED DRUG TEST BY ISAIAH CROWELL. You said the only losses by Mark Richt to bad teams were all in 2010 only and that was ONLY 1 SEASON, then I detailed the 17 games LOST by Mark Richt since you are too lazy and want to LIE ABOUT EVERYTHING. And, I showed you 17 teams who if they didn’t beat Mark Richt would not have finished top 25 those years and 10 of the 17 who did NOT end up top 25 EVEN WITH THEIR WIN OVER MARK RICHT over ALL 11 YEARS.

I believe GT would give LSU a run for their money. GT has a really good running game and a good defense. UGA played a good game against GT with the 4th and 5th string running backs. 1,2&3 will be available against LSU, I would think that all GT fans would pull for UGA to win this game because it would prove that GT is a better team than given credit. I just hope it is a good game if UGA loses then hold your head up it has been a great year for the Dawgs. If UGA wins then do it with respect, LSU is undefeated and is a great football team. Hilarious and supremely delusional comments from all you puppy fans. Keep up the good work!!! Bottom line, I cannot wait to read the comments next week after the 37-13 pounding LSU gives your team. They have not played a team anywhere near this good all season, and have built those impressive defensive and offensive stats against a bunch of bad or underachieving teams. I see where you finally got a signature win this past week… beating an 8 win team. LSU has played a much tougher schedule and has compiled better O and D stats against much better teams, and have signature wins against 3, count’em, THREE, teams currently in the top 10 BCS, and every other poll. They have scored more points(the main stat to winning games), and given up less points, than the puppy dogs, against superior competition. 37-13 will be a close game.

Georgia has nothing to lose here as long as they don’t get blown out, they will have proved they can hang with the #1 team in the land and this season will be considered a great success. THEY DESPISE THE SEC where they would do anything to rejoin, like they tried to back in 77. GT then was TURNED AWAY. Even CPJ would LOVE TO coach in the SEC. Afterall, alumnus Bill Curry DUMPED GT for Alabama and the SEC.

See what happened to Vandy when they played Bama…….Kentucky when they played LSU.

KerryB dreams:

“Bama is a one dimensional offense. It is 90% Trent Richardson. Stop him you stop Alabama.”

Georgia would like to have a dimension like Trent Richardson instead of the guy who takes himself out of the game every time he gets winded or nicked up, Isaah Crowell. And to back up Richardson Alabama can bring in Eddie Lacey and Jalston Fowler instead of a 150 pound Carlton Thomas (when Thomas isn’t serving one of his suspensions).

Georgia passed for 243.1 yards a game, a whopping 30 YPG more than Alabama’s 213.6. But Alabama rushed for 219.8 yards a game versus Georgia’s 180.6. Alabama had more total yardage than Georgia. And Alabama would have put up more passing yards had they not blown out most opponents and spent the 4th quarter of most games running the ball between the tackles with backup running backs.

Next feeble attempt to pretend Georgia is as good as LSU or Alabama on either side of the ball?

Either way, I am proud of these young guys and the job they have done. UGA’s big incentive is the Sugar Bowl berth, so I want to see them give it all they have.

Georgia’s defense is for real. LSU is little better on defense than the Dogs though. Tigers offense plays into the strength of UGA’s defense. I don’t really fear Jefferson beating us throwing the ball, to be honest.

I am greatly concerned our O line will not be able to open up holes or protect Murray. LSU is better on special teams, that’s a given.

I hope I am wrong, but I think this will be a close low scoring game that favors the Tigers in the fourth quarter, unless the defense can force some turnovers in both halves that we turn into points.

South Carolin’s defense is rated higher (4th), beat everyone in their division, has a high BCS ranking and better RPI. Georgia gets to play for the Championship because they won the East?

I think overall LSU have better Defensive back’s but Georgia overall have better Linebackers. Murray will be the key to whether the game is close or not. Most of LSU’s defensive back’s will end up in Pro ball , they are real smart and know football and schemes as good as Murray. Murray need’s to be careful about being baited into throwing the ball into traffic which will improve the chances of turnovers. I think that Georgia will stay with LSU the entire game unless Murray get’s frustrated and start’s having turnovers which will put too much pressure on the defense against a great team like LSU. That’s what makes them so great , they wear you down and then they take control of the game in the second half.
Alabama did not make second half mistakes that would have allowed LSU to pull ahead in the game and that’s what Murray has got to do. If Georgia doesn’t beat themselves we can win this game.

Thanks to reader Matt Heyes for this note: in five seasons when Mark Richt played a quarterback starting for the first time, Georgia went 41-23 (.640), with one 10-win season. That would have been senior D.J. Shockley, who played regularly in previous years behind David Greene, leading the Dawgs to a 10-3 record and the SEC title. In the six seasons in which Richt has had a returning starter at quarterback, the Dawgs are 65-13 (.833) with one SEC title and four SEC East championships.

Yeah, I know, but then again, not many except Bama fans and those who hate UGA would even put the two in the same category. Might be because of the 125 three yard out passes that McCarron throws. Murray is a MUCH better QB than McCarron.

I think people are reading into what Jones is saying too much. He points out that UGA’s numbers are just as good as LSU’s. But all the so called experts are saying it doesn’t match up to LSU’s and that Georgia can’t last with the size and strength of LSU. Jones is pointing out that Georgia’s just isn’t getting the respect that they deserve.
It is interesting that Georgia has the bigger O and D lines, both averaging over 329 lbs. It also has bigger linebackers. The talent is there for Georgia, the question is the consistency. LSU has been more consistent at defense than Georgia in rush defense. LSU has given up less than 90 yards five times, between 90 and 100 yards, three times, and over 100 yards four times. Also the most they gave up was 148 against Ole Miss. Georgia on the other hand has given up less than 80 yards seven times (less than 65 in all seven), and in the other five over 100 yards (three of which were 200 or more). LSU hasn’t had the stellar performance in the run defense that Georgia has had, but they have been real consistent. Georgia on the other hand has given up a lot or nothing. To Georgia defense with the exception of South Carolina, Vandy, and Tech, Georgia has been the better run defense (All three LSU didn’t play). Not sure South Carolina would run that well without Lattimore against Georgia. Vandy may have been a fluke. And just ask Bama about the triple option (they gave up 221 yard against it to GA Southern).
I know people want to say that with LSU’s schedule and Georgia it is apples to oranges, because LSU played the tougher schedule. So lets compare the teams that they both played. LSU gave up 52 yards on 34 carries to Miss State. Georgia gave up 56 yards on 34 carries. LSU gave up 113 yard on 32 carries to Florida. Georgia gave up -19 yards on 22 carries. LSU gave up 111 yards on 29 carries to Tennessee. Georgia gave up -20 on 23 carries. LSU gave up 87 yards on 34 carries to Auburn. Georgia gave up 51 yard on 25 carries. LSU gave up 148 yards on 42 carries to Ole Miss. Georgia gave up 34 yards on 26 carries. These are the apples to apples comparisons. I think that Jones may have some room to talk.
I’m not going to say that Georgia will win, but we have a good shot. Spy Russell, and watch the Boise game again. Look at what Kellen Moore did to us. LSU gives up a lot of short passes. They don’t give up much after the catch, and not many big plays. But if we take 3, 4, or 5 yards every down we can score. I think the key to the game will be Aaron Murray, will he be able to keep the defense guessing? Georgia will be the second best defense that LSU will play this year. Look at what Bama did and find a way to get points, and we can win this game.

No, we get to play in The SEC Championship Game because we didn't play Arkansas like you had to.

In the 3 seasons Mark Richt had a QB starting for the 1st time, he is 8-4 2001, 10-3 2005, and 6-7 2010, a total of 24-14.
In the 8 seasons Mark Richt had a QB returning as a Starter, he is 82-22.

2002 David Greene did not start for the 1st time 13-1, 2003 he was 11-3 and 2004 he was 10-2. 2006, Joe Tereshinski III did not start for the 1st time, because he had STARTED AGAINST FLORIDA 2005, so that is 9-4 with returning starter at QB. 2007, 11-2 Matthew Stafford did not start for the 1st time. 2008 Matthew Stafford did not start for the 1st time and went 10-3. 2009 Joe Cox did not start for the 1st time, since he had started the Colorado game 2006, so that is 8-5 on the ledger for not starting for the 1st time. 2011 the 10-2 is Aaron Murray not starting for the 1st ime.

82-22 when QB wasn’t starting for the 1st time.
24-14 when QB was starting for the 1st time.

You’re just wrong. And, the guy you are quoting is wrong. You should have thought about it. I knew it was wrong on the face of it.

I saw somewhere that the LSU offense is ranked somewhere in the 70’s, but their scoring is in the teens, so that means special teams and defense play a huge part of their scoring, which scares the crap out of me. We’ll find out on Saturday. It should be fun.

To me, sandbagging is a better tactic than boasting before the game.

I prefer the pregame prognostications by the “experts” who say Georgia has no chance, LSU can mail it in, LSU can have their scout team play, LSU can use their band instead of their football team.

These professional prognosticators don’t have to know what they’re talking about, but their “expert” sandbagging is a real help to the team they frame as the helpless underdog.

Truth is, LSU is a formidable opponent, and an excellent football team. It will be an honor to be on the field with them. We can respect them, and also try to stomp their heads into the ground.

We’re supposed to try to beat them, and our guys are supposed to believe in themselves, and their potential.

I’m glad our defense is confident, and I really want them to have a good time playing. It’s a fun game to play when things are going your way, and things go your way when you’re having fun.

LSU is an excellent team. They seem a bit too prideful, and invincible for their own good, and look ripe for a whipping, but what do I know. Maybe they are the best team in history. Maybe they can beat us by 30 points, or more…

I’m pretty sure all Georgia fans know we’re the underdogs.

LSU is a double digit favorite and should be. They have beaten some great teams this year and have looked like the best team in the country.

But lets set a few things straight. Every single Georgia starter was a four or five star player out of high school, except Robinson who was a three star player. 4 starters were 5 star recruits. 9 Georgia starters were offered by LSU, the other 2 by 75% of the SEC. Georgia gets top 5/10 talent every year and has for ever. There are more D1 athletes in Georgia than in LSU, and there are every year.

5 of Georgia’s front seven will start on Sunday, the other two will play on Sunday. The big difference is Georgia’s secondary is pretty good, LSU’s is elite.

Georgia is also 6-3 against LSU in the lifetime of the players on the field.
That’s “doing something”.

Georgia has more wins than LSU
Georgia has won the SEC more than LSU
Georgia has more bowl appearances than LSU
Georgia has more bowl wins than LSU
Georgia has more heisman winners than LSU
Georgia has had more all americans than LSU
Georgia has put more players in the pros than LSU
Georgia has managed to finish a season undefeated in the last 50 years…..LSU hasn’t yet
That’s “doing something”

LSU has managed to back into two BCS mythical national “championships” recently.
They defended them by getting blasted by Georgia 45-16 in 2004 and 52-38 at home in 2008.

Again, LSU is the favorite, they look like the best team, they have some great wins, and nobody will be suprised if they win on Saturday.

But don’t be shocked if Georgia’s players aren’t intimidated and believe they can win. I’d be upset if they didn’t.

Altamaha, I think it was just poor wording too. There is a difference in a QB getting a spot start due to injury (like when DJ was hurt before the Florida game in 05) and being the cemented starter. In other words, the years when Greene, Shockley, Stafford, Cox, and Murray all became starters were the toughest ones we have had. I am not expecting a guy like “Thomas Brown” who knows nothing about playing QB to understand all that though.

All that there is to say is: if the SEC sack leader says he’s going to bring it and that his defense will go toe to toe will LSU’s and a LSU WR responds with an arrogant comment like that, then this will be a LONG game for their offense. Sheppard obviously is conceded. He didn’t think before he “tweeted” (the dumbest form of communication since the time of cave men) and his mouth will get him killed. Thomas is a good back with quick feet but he bowls over with a lineman fart. He is much more effective outside the tackles or around the ends

It’s simple. If the UGA that played Auburn and GT shows up, UGA will make this a game and could very well pull off the upset. If the UGA team that played the rest of the season shows up, expect a blowout.

Though slightly less impressive on paper, UGA’s defense is very comparable to LSU’s. And, UGA’s offense is more dynamic, if not simply more impressive.

Should be a good game.

No need to get too heated up about how good Georgia is or how good Oklahoma State is, we are going to find out on Saturday.

As far as the young man’s comments, they were articulate, respectful and appropriate. But some sports media types decided to ‘tweet out’ only the last line. This is just another example of why a certain SEC coach dislikes sportswriters so much.

@ Yo…Jones’s comment was what he believes, not what the media has told him. That’s confidence and faith in the players around you; not mouthing off.

Tell me this…if Sheppard’s comment wasn’t out of arrogance, then don’t you think he would have resisted the urge to tweet a childish response? If they are the best then he should keep his mouth shut and prove it to Jones on the field, not on an instant messenger for people who obviously want attention.

Georgia won the East and is on a 10 game winning streak and should feel good about their chances on Saturday. However to fell that their defense is as good as LSU is really not realistic. LSU played one of the harder schedules in the country this year. Georgia played two ranked teams and lost both. LSU has more speed at all positions than anyone Ga will have faced this year. If LSU can run, and you can run against Ga. (see SC) then they win it is that simple.

Georgia’s signature game this season??? Looks like it was 31-17 over Ga.Tech this past week, the ONLY team they beat all season that has at least 8 wins. LSU has signature wins over Oregon, Alabama, Arkansas, all having at least 10 wins and all were and still are in the top 10. As far as some of those pretty, but meaningless stats go, LSU hung 41 on Florida, and what some 52 on Ole Miss that could have been much worse. They also allowed something like 67 points in SEC play this season, whereas the pups allowed over 100. EVERY important D stat leans toward LSU. They have a 4th and 5th string running back that could start in Athens over the prima dona Crowell. Their QB’s do not have splashy all SEC stats, but I am sure CMR would love to have either one leading his team. They are winners. Pretty stats do not make you a winning QB. Winning games does that. LSU has won 2 NC without having a QB with pretty stats. It appears that CMR just wants the pretty stat QB’s (Greene, Murray, and the great Matthew Stafford).

The truth is that they are not even the best team in their division, losing to South Carolina, and they come up with all types of excuses for losing that game except the one that counts… THEY SCORED LESS POINTS THAN THE OTHER TEAM; just as will be the case Saturday. This season is looking like a repeat of 2007 where the team “grew up” over the season. The Defense is better than the 07 group.
I have more optimism because of LSU being a “running team”. That really should play to the strength of our front seven. Without any quick scores on trick plays or on special from LSU, Ga will get several 3 and outs…just like Bama. What I will waiting to see is if our young receivers can get open against their great secondary. I think that will be the key to the game…oh and if we can rush the ball enough to keep them from teeing off on Murray. A lot of questions that will have to be answered when they play the game. We do have a chance because we have a lot of good, fast receivers and a top 3 tight end. Now, if Crowell can stay healthy and step it up…we will win.

What’s scarry about Georgia is not this game, although it is important, but if the juniors come back Georgia will be stacked. If they can get a significant number of the high profile recruits for 2012, there’s no telling how good they can be!

I sincerely hope Gurley (rb/ath) Marshall (rb) Morris(rb) Montgomery(wr), Taylor(wr),Brodie(ot),

As far as this game, I pray and hope Georgia wins, but regardless of the outcome this Georgia team is special and we Georgia fans owe them a deep gratutuide and respect for what they have been able to accomplish. These are a special group of young men and I like the team and not individual atttuide that have!

As for the running backs and offensive line… You guys are definetly talented and if you give everything you have, you can open holes for the rb, and passing lanes for the wr’s. Both Murray and Mason be ready and composed.

Defense you have won in the trenches and outside the perimenters this year and I see no reason for you to take a back seat to anyone! Remember LSU is a great team, respect them but don’t fear them- Georgia was a great team in the mid 80’s but they lost to Pitt and Penn State who were rated below them. LSU and Bama will pay in the MNC as the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the SEC…… UGA will get stuck with this year’s Hawaii which is Houston in the Sugar Bowl. Makes no sense but that is the scenario that will happen.

Actually UGA Insider it makes total sense. It’s called conspiracy. When UGA pulls an “Auburn over Bama” from last season. Forget that one already? … 24-0 Bama at the half, 28-27 Auburn final. Remember the WEIRD turnovers & dropped passes Bama had in the 2nd half? Do we forget who would NOT have been playing in the BCS NC game if Bama won? That’s right, there would have been NO SEC team, it would’ve been Oregon vs TCU.

Have we also forgotten that ESPN (who, along with the BCS have total control of NCAA football) signed a HUGE multi-billion $ deal with the SEC last year?

Well you better believe they (ESPN & BCS) are gonna make darn sure at least 1 SEC team plays for the NC every chance they get, and in this case they are changing their own rule of only 2 teams from a BCS conf can play in BCS bowls. Now they’ll have 3 SEC teams in BCS bowls.

The BCS is a Joke, and ESPN (the drivers of the NCAA football bus) have too much power, and a conflict of interest by having the mulit-billion $ deal with the SEC.

Pay attention to play calling. Bobo froze up as far as play calling in our last game of this magnitude(Boise State). I am interested to see how he handles it. The game will be won by the team who handles the 3 and outs and negative plays the best and yes there will be some of both believe or not. Go Dawgs.

Garrian,

UGA’s 10 game winning streak was a complete joke of a strength of schedule. The SEC teams were combined 14-42 in league play, then you have Coastal Carolina, New Mex St, and GT, who everyone claims is a joke of a program that plays in the worst ever BCS conference.

What did UGA prove in their 10-game winning streak? That all 10 opponents had, what everyone else already knew, bad offenses & defenses. Fact id, Auburn is the only SEC team UGA beat that finished without a LOSING league record, and they were just 4-4. Impressive.

Every diehard UGA fan would promise you that UGA would’ve been 11-1 (only loss to Boise) if they were in GT’s conf b/c it’s the ACC. We saw what UVA, MIAMI, and VT (all ACC teams) did to GT so how could UGA’s win be so impressive now?

Still think UGA gets the W on Saturday b/c of the ESPN-BCS conspiracy in favor of their cash cow, the SEC.

This is not a postive thought….but I am going to post it anyway……just to think about….

Who’s defense played better against Florida? LSU or Georgia? By far, LSU.

Who’s defesne played better against Florida? LSU, Georiga, or FSU…..by far, FSU….

….and FSU is 8-4 and lost to Wake Forest.

What does that say about the SEC this year? And Florida’s offense, especially.

There is NO WAY the Dogs are beating LSU. LSU’s D is way too powerful for UGA’s offense, and as for the BSC Championship Game, it’s going to be all SEC, too bad for UGA, they would have done great in the Sugar.

I have no problem with JJ talking about being better than LSU. If you do not think you are the best, then you should not be on the field. Everyone disrespects LSUs offense due to the lack of numbers. If you look at the scoring we are doing pretty well. Many times we have a short field to work with due to special teams or turnovers. You cannot put up 500 yard games when you only need drives of 40-60 yards to score.

Should be a good game. GA has really stepped it up and Richt deserves a lot of credit for overcoming all the negative talk at the beginning of the year.

What many people are forgetting though is that LSU is extremely young also with most of the starters in their first two years of playing time. We lose very few players from a two deep team. It is not the age that matters, it is the swagger and confidence. I like the confidence of JJ with his statement, but he better be ready to back it up come Saturday.

It is funny to see the Dawg fans barking about their defense and how they are going to beat LSU. The Dawgs will get a major dose of reality on Saturday when they realize that there is a reason that LSU is number 1; Georgia will be another double digit win on LSU’s belt. The two best teams in the land are LSU and Alabama, period. Georgia is in the SEC championship because they didn’t have to play either one. My prediction: LSU 27 – 10 over the Dawgs.

Come on all you “yakers” – all the pregame commentary by the Dogs, the Tigers, the media or the bloggers won’t mean a hill of beans once the ball is kicked off.
We (Dogs) will need a great game by all 3 phases (OFF. DEF. & SP. Teams) to beat a truly outstanding LSU team. We will need all available bodies especially at running-back – and Crowell has a chance to prove that he is what he was billed to be – if he will stop picking and biting his fingernails on the bench.

you judge a team not so much how they started, but where their level of play is toward the end of a season.i would say lsu has played even keeled so far this season.looking over their season they’re playing now where they started the season at as far as level of play.which is a very high level and the trick is can they maintain it.uga is playing considerably better than they where at the start of the season.uga is a very young team that had to grow up on both sides of the ball and overcome quite a few injuries that i didn’t think they could overcome.i look at the auburn game for both teams since both played them late.lsu on oct.22 a 45-10 game and uga nov.12 a 45-7 game.auburn at the time they played both was the 2nd leading rushing offense in the sec.
lsu gave up 87yds rushing and 146yds passing to auburn for a total of 248yds.uga gave up 51yds rushing and 144yds passing to auburn for a total of 195yds.
id say both defenses are pretty close to level of play verses a common opponent both played within the past 3-5 weeks.
lsu had 174yds rushing and 219yds passing on auburns d for a total of 393yds.uga had 304yds rushing and 224yds passing on auburns d for a total of 528yds.
football is about match-ups,not who played who and how bad one team beat a team compared to the other team playing the same common opponents.
i looked at the auburn game because both teams played them late in the season and it’s a good judge of seeing where both teams are playing right now.
lsu without a doubt will be the best team uga will have played this season.this is a good measuring stick for uga to see where they are and how close they are to reaching those lofty goals for this team that can play together for the next 3 years.
murray and uga’ss wr and te’s i think its fair to say will be the most talented group that lsu’s d has faced this year.murray will get one on one match-ups and if he’s on fire uga will move the ball.uga will need crowell, samuels, malcome and figgins to have a big game to keep lsu’s d on their heels.lsu will have to have a better passing game than they’ve shown to date to score points.i would say uga’s front 7 on d can slam the door on lsu’s rushing game.i think they match-up with lsu’s o-line and backs.both teams play a lot players so depth i don’t think will be a factor.both special teams are some of the best in the country.
will lsu play to not lose and be tense with the natl championship and a date with ala a few weeks away.what does uga have to lose anyway.if they get blown out well they’re suppose too anyway.so what!
if i’m mark richt i throw the football kitchen sink at em and let the chips fall where they may.
i’m just sayin
go dawgs go!!!!!

UGA will be embarrassed! Believe me LSU will run the score up if possible. They are very capable of doing just that. UGA has never been up against a defense as good as this. Nor do I think they have faced an offense that is as good. After Ga. Tech they dropped from number 2 on defensive rushing to number 6. The Dawgs have not remotely faced such a talented team this year on both sides of the ball.

Um…We are just as good as LSU’s defense. Our Defense held Boise St for most of the game, it’s just we had no offense, so eventually it won over, plus ogletree went out in the first quarter. After that, we held Lattimore, and Garcia for most of the game, it was their defense and special teams that scored. I’m worried about Arron Murray not being accurate when he needs to be. Sometimes the ball sails on him, and a defense like LSU will probably capitalize, but our Defense will keep us in the game. Malcome Mitchel, Orsen Charles, Conly, and bennett. LSU better have a good plan for that. good luck

Teger, you are moron…that is all Ga Tech does is run the ball in their option style offense. How about the 300+yds and 21 pts Ga Southern racked up against Alabama? Based on you logic, Ga Southern has a heck of a lot better offense than the Tigers.

The Defenses are virtually equal. (And ours might just be better).
The Junk Yard D is Back: Aggressive Coaching! Our Big Boys Up Front – Top Tier LBs – Athletic opportunistic DBs & (once again) hard-hitting safeties. Now our defense will be even more fired up.

However, our (UGA) Offense (Murray, Crowell, OLine, TEs, and WRs) is better than at LSU’s all over the field. Note: We don’t have to challenge those corners too much – Just kill em slowly with TEs across the middle, RB screens and quick out routes; THEN when they pull those safeties in, BOOM over the top.

Special Teams: Our coverage teams are still a bit scary. Our Kickers and Punter are better and will stepup. Both team’s returners are great.

The difference will be our Offense.
The outcome will be: UGA 30 / LSU 17.

LSU is good, no one argues that…but UGA has grown into a good team. who knows the final score, but it will be close…LSU knows that they have a limited offense with trick plays. UGA doesn’t turn the ball over and LSU doesn’t get a cheap one…I think LSU will be hoping Oklahoma wins to salvage their season. but what do i know…I said UGA would blow out Auburn and beat UF as i watched us give away the game to SC by providing them 4 non-offensive touchdowns. Plus your big wins include WV and Arkansas? Who WV beat? Who Arkansas beat? for that matter who Bama beat? UGA’s not the best team maybe but they could win this game…and they want it…LSU you thinks they deserve it!

With Bama & LSU playing Florida before UGA did, and with both Bama & LSU punishing Florida with the ground game, and with a week off to prepare, UGA shows up in JAX and decides they’re gonna throw???

Result is that Florida was blown out by both Bama & LSU, but almost beat UGA. They were unquestionably still in the game late into the 4th quarter.

Hope the UGA gameplanning has improved or it’s gonna be a long, sad bus ride back to Athens.

@JL, Just a note…LSU turns the ball over less than UGA, LSU also blew out Auburn, but they also blew out Florida,Ole Miss, and Tennessee, 3 teams that UGA struggled to beat. And you continue to cry about the S. Carolina game. The bottom line is that they scored more points, therefore they got a W. If your team had less turnovers, you might have won, but, that is part of the game. The best team in the East won that day, and I still think they are better than UGA. They also won 10 games. However they won 10 games after kicking the starting QB off the team, and losing the best or maybe 2d best running back in the SEC to injury, and later on the 2d and 3d team RB’s. Do you seriously think that UGA would be 10-2 with Hutson Mason starting for 6 games, and Ken Malcome and whoever else running the ball. Not a chance, even with the weak schedule they played this season.

Serious?? Georgia does not have a prayer. They have not beaten anyone this year and wanted to fire the coach a few months ago. And just so the puppies know, even if you did pull off the biggest upset of the year you still can’t go to the Sugar Bowl. ONLY 2 teams from the SEC can go to a BCS game and that will be Bama and LSU. Murray won’t last the 1st half and if you think you are gonna “wear down” LSU, you have not watched LSU play this year. The Tigers are 9 deep on the DL, 8 deep in the DBs, 8 deep on the OL and you will never have any field position with the LSU punter. In 12 games LSU has given up 6 YARDS TOTAL in punt returns. The puppies already made the SEC look bad in the Boise game and will look like little girls saturday. Remember, the Honey Badger takes what he wants…..

It is sad to reflect on the still delusional UGA fans. Let’s not pretend that this isn’t the defense which was gashed by Vandy just a couple of weeks ago and had to depend on a punter’s tackle in the last minute nor that this juggernaut of an offense was stoned by UK?

@JoeMac…if W’s are what matter then be quiet about SC being the best team in the East! We won more SEC games than they did. And LSU is good…no doubt, but not unstoppable. (WKU had your offense stopped for almost 3 qtrs) And LSU probably should win, but the reality is nothing like the delusions you have…LSU is #1, but by slim margains is all i’m saying. And speaking to the SC game you brought up…QB, Garcia was an off and on starter. And We were missing several starters due to injury…like 2 starting LBs (imp against the run if you didn’t know…we had two first time starters in). Plus I guess the players suspended in game one also hurt us too…but you’d know nothing of that being an LSU fan…Les Myles is a joke at discipline…JJ and over-hyped Honey Beaver get 1 game suspensions when they should be off the team. and by the way “off the team” is where our 1st and 2nd string RB’s are…off the team b/c they got dismissed by CMR as they should have been for behavior or b/c our Univ. has academic standards that are enforced. and btw Malcome is 4th string RB (was scout team), so do some homework about rosters!! And with SoS…we beat who we played the last 10 games…can’t do more…can’t compare too much the teams either b/c Arkansas is a joke…like you said only team they beat this season is an SC team with it’s “Best QB” and best running back gone. And you played UF with it’s 3rd string QB and auburn with a first time starter (we played against Brantley and Mosely after he started 5 games. You only beat Bama b/c they missed 4 FGs, your team didn’t win they lost. Your win vs Oregon??Oregon got beat by Lane Kiffin’s average USC Team and your vistory over them was w/o LaMichael James. Face it, you are mad and scared b/c this is true, your offense is weak (Georgia Southern FCS school ran for more yards against Bama than you did), and the media hype will turn if you lose to us. AND LSU is good! very good! but not unbeatable like you say, and UGA is not garbage like you say. UGA is good and it’s just too bad we don’t have a system that allows the teams playing the best at the end of the season to play. And if you play Bama again after losing to us…that would be a non conference champ playing a non division champ for the national champ…it’s messed up. Play it off and these things go away. Either way Bama wins NC either way. quit being so one sided, show some proper respect, cheer hard, and realize LSU football isn’t the only program that has talent.

Here we go again, now Sanders Commings is jabbing. Here’s an idea, don’t worry about if you think your defense is better that the other guys D, you need to be better than the other guys offense.

man its bad when your own state is against you. on espn there is a poll LSU or GEORGIA and 21% of the state voted for Georgia. that sucks when your own state is against you. but dont worry guys go out there and proved the whole nation wrong. no matter what win or loose i will be there to support you guys.

“SC being the best team in the East! We won more SEC games than they did”

Hate to break it to ya but SC has owned the SEC EAST for the past two years.

They are 9-1 with the only loss in the crazy UK games last season.

That means that they have beat down each of the EAST teams both at home and away.

Just thank a quirk in the schedule for the game and hope that Spurrier doesn’t figure out the SEC West like he has the East.

And of course the delusional UGA fans\players are woofing before games, it is the sad thing that they do, then the game starts and they disappear. Just pray none them taunt the LSU coaches.

LSU big.

Listen, Everyone keep saying that LSU defense did it against tougher competition, but I look at the tougher competition that they faced and West Virginia moved the ball on them and racked up a lot of yards against that great defense of theirs, Oregon moved the ball pretty good as well, Arkansas was a nice outing for them, Alabama really don’t have much offensive fire power.

So the tougher competition that they have faced, they havent been lights out against all of them. I think our defense isnt as good, but, the gap between their defense and ours is much smaller than the gap between our offense and theirs. Thats why I can see us winning this game. They capitalize on your mistakes better than anyone in the country, so as long as Murray protects the ball and the running backs dont put it on the ground, WE WILL WIN! They feed off of turnovers and mistakes made by your special teams. If we dont turn it over and dont give up big plays in the special teams we are the better team straight up.

Does anyone remember that LSU gave up 533 yards to West Va? Nearly 470 of those through the air? Anyone? Good for Jarvis.

As if LSU needed any motivation and your best defensive player goes running his mouth. Coach Richt better put a muzzle on his little doggies, including Sanders Commings who also vomited a bunch of trash from his mouth that is now all over the Baton Rouge and New Orleans newspapers. THANKS PUPPY DOGS!!! They single handedly insulted our offense AND defense. Anyone care to make any comments about the special teams, I mean, the UGA unit is better there as well. LMAO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Can’t wait to see your pups wet themselves Saturday.

UGA gave up 35 points against Bosie, 45 against USC, 28 against Vandy and 20 to Florida. I hope UGA pulls off the upset but they are NOWHERE near as good as LSU and Bama on Defense. Richt needs to ban the players from the media so they quit running their mouths. Remember Boykin ran his mouth against Bosie and that did not do him, or UGA very well.

I think UGA has a very good chance if we play a complete game like we did vs Auburn or Tech. (We beat both Auburn and Miss St by a larger margin than LSU did.) But if play special teams like we did against UF or overall like we did vs Kentucky, its a blow-out. Turnover margin and special teams will be key. Murray has to be as sharp and avoid any INTs or fumbles when sacked. I wish we knew if Crowell and Samuel were healthy because some sort of running game will help keep them honest. The other guys are either too small and/or can’t hand onto the ball.

I would be more concerned if the Defense had a negative attitude about their ability. “What you think about you bring about.”

Sure the Bulldogs are on a 10 game win streak but that is against the bottom of the SEC ( which by the way those teams are absolutely horrible ) and against a bad non conference schedule. The only two loses of the year came from two teams Boise and USC who were actually good. UGA has yet since those two losses to face a top 25 caliber team and will be in for a very rude awakening when coming to Atlanta to face the #1 LSU Tigers. These defensive stats for UGA come against horrible teams which even in some of this games came down to the end for UGA to win. Neaux chance for the puppies in this game.

All I know is this game is going to be a whole lot more entertaining than that boring Bama/LSU game was. Win or lose it will be a fun one to watch. It doesn’t even matter who wins as the MNC game is already set in stone by the media with a rematch of the snoozer one. Who other than Alabama and Louisiana people are even going to give a dang?

@Be for real…you are exactly the kind of fan we’ve been talking about…ignorant in it’s true sense. we just finished beating two teams in the top 25. 2 of your “good” wins are against people not even ranked and WV is only ranked b/c the big east can’t look that bad and be a AQ for the BCS. you may win, but your wrong

@ JL ….. if you meaning 2 of those teams in the top 25 you beat as in Tech and Auburn then LMFAO those teams don’t even deserve to be in the top 50. And I’m pretty sure Oregon and Alabama are both ranked in the top ten still so i don’t understand or see any point you are trying to make here…Little dumb doggy fans smh.

Georgia has a good defense no doubt about it, but they are ranked so highly because of a lack of competition to be honest. The highest ranked offense they’ve played lately was New Mexico State…LSU held Bama to 6 which no other team in the nation could possibly do. We held Tyler Wilson down, held Oregon essentially to 20 but they got to 27 because of a last second TD, and to say our offense won’t score much is crazy, we’ve only had 2 games decided by less than 2 TD’s all season and the teams we played were no pushovers. If UGA played our schedule, they would have lost at least 4-5 games if not more. They lost to Boise….be realistic not biased, it will be a good game but to say UGA will show something LSU that they won’t expect is foolish, LSU by 14, 27-13.
