ATHENS – The saga that is Georgia’s tailback situation continued on Wednesday as coach Mark Richt would not concede that either Isaiah Crowell or Carlton Thomas will be available to play against Georgia Tech on Saturday.
Richt met with the media for the final time this week before Wednesday’s late-afternoon practice. He said that Crowell still hasn’t gotten clearance from trainer Ron Courson to return from a sprained ankle the limited him to two carries against Kentucky this past Saturday. Richt said it would come down to how much work Crowell would be able to get in against the scout team Wednesday and Thursday.
“It’s very similar to what we did with Malcolm Mitchell and his hamstring,” Richt said. “We’re just trying to get him as ready to go as we can without putting him in a competitive situation. The most important part is the scout work, the game plan and simulated work. So we’ll see how much work he gets.”
Meanwhile, Richt remained cryptic regarding Thomas, who served his third one-game suspension of the season this past Saturday. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do there,” he said, quickly changing the subject.
For what it’s worth, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said Tuesday he expects both players to play. In the meantime, Brandon Harton and Ken Malcome are getting a lot of work in practice.
Regardless, not knowing who is going to the primary ball-carrier each week has become an issue for the Bulldogs.
“It’s been a pain in the rear this year, no doubt,” Richt said. “But there has been different reasons for all this. In football, whether it’s injuries or suspensions, guys end up not being there and other guys have to step in to play. So you just play who you’ve got to play.”
Shout out to Marshall?
It’s no secret that Georgia is in hot pursuit of Keith Marshall of Raleigh, N.C., the consensus No. 1 running back prospect in America. Marshall lists the Bulldogs among his favorites and is scheduled to make his college choice on Dec. 6. Richt seemed to be talking to Marshall directly when he spoke of Georgia’s need for more tailbacks on Wednesday.
“There’s a tremendous opportunity at the University of Georgia for running backs in this class to come to Georgia and make a big impact,” Richt said. “I hope that’s not breaking a rule, but there’s tremendous opportunity, I can say that. If I was a running back, if I was a great running back, I would want to come to Georgia. I would be so excited about my opportunity at Georgia.”
The message reached Marshall. He retweeted Richt’s comments after they were circulated on Twitter by reporters.
Geathers close to ready
Noseguard Kwame Geathers is practicing this week and expects to play Saturday against Georgia Tech. He missed last Saturday’s game with a sprained right ankle.
“It still hurts a little bit but they’re going to keep working on it,” said the 6-foot-6, 350-pound Geathers. “It’s the time of the season where everybody’s hurt. You just have to play through it.”
Geathers started three games this season and splits time with John Jenkins at position.
Thanksgiving plans
Georgia’s players will be cut loose for the Thanksgiving holiday at 11 a.m. Thursday after a morning practice. The players that live close enough will head home and those that live far away will either accompany teammates home or attend assistant coach Rodney Garner’s annual Thanksgiving extravaganza at his home in Oconee County.
The Bulldogs’ defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator has been hosting displaced players on Thanksgiving ever since he came to Georgia in 1998 and before that when he was at other schools.
“It’s just a traditional thing now,” Garner said. “I hated eating in the dorm on Thanksgiving when I was at Auburn.”I thought it was the worst thing that ever happened. Being from the country, I didn’t think it was fair that we had to eat cafeteria food. So when I got into coaching I just decided I was going to make sure those guys had home-cooked food.”
They said it
“You could go 11-0 but if you lose to Georgia Tech it’s not going to be a good season. You could see that in 2008. A lot of people would say going 10-3 and winning the Capital One Bowl was a successful season for a program. But that loss to Tech really ruined that season and left a sour note in everybody’s mouth.”
– Senior tight end Aron White
Etc. . . .
Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham was among 29 nominees for the Frank Broyles Award, which goes annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. . . . The Bulldogs were practicing in full pads both Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for the Yellow Jackets’ triple option. . . . Players plan to visit patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and The Shepherd Center on Friday afternoon.

I like Mark Richt. Why write what I did not write ? He is not much of a football head coach. He lies a lot. He does get us a ton of bad press and has all 11 seasons. Right now today we have Carlton Thomas SUSPENDED for 4 games this season out of the previous 11 games. Why isn’t he kicked off the team, yet ? Because we are playing Georgia tek and Isaiah Crowell has proved in his multiple SUSPENSIONS too, that even when he is not suspended as well, he is unreliable on and off the field; and, he has injuries. He has lots of injuries. As to the previous post you let slide by that said there is no proof of IC drug use, we have Mark Richt himself in his press interview with Chip Towers who said that indeed the suspensions were because of Failed NCAA Drug Tests. We also were told that he told everyone on the team bus that Friday, after his Thursday night NCAA Drug Test, that he was suspended. I believe if I took a NCAA Drug Test that I would know that I failed the test, even before I took it and certainly right after I did with a person of the same gender watching me label the sample A and the sample B beakers. We also watched him moping around at the game on the sidelines. That is an every week occurrence with him, as well.
2002 – SEC Champions when the only other SEC team who ended up in the Coaches’ Poll Top 25 for all of the 2002 season was a 4-Loss Auburn.
2005 – SEC Champions when we ended up in every stinking poll the # 3 ranked team in The SEC for the 2005 season.
As for your statement that he has beat some teams who ended up in the top 25, yes and LOST a lot more at 17-26 all 11 years.
He is as well 3 wins vs teams who ended up in the top 10 and 13 Losses to them as well all 11 years.
And, he has 17 losses in his 11 years where had he not lost to the 17, none of the 17 teams would have ended up in the top 25. 10 of the 17 did not end up in the top 25 even with their win over Mark Richt.
Mark Richt has averaged the # 7 recruiting ranking, averaging both Rivals and Scout over the entire 11 years to-date; and has 17 very poor losses to bad teams, has lost to teams who ended up in the top 25 a total of 26 times out of the 43 games to-date and has lost to teams who ended up in the top 10 a total of 10 of the 13 games.
Mark Richt is also # 2 all-time in Fulmer Cup Standings, and has over 2 dozen football players who he either ran off or who simply transferred out on their own whom he gave scholarships to this season to play for us this season. But, according to you, that is all in the past now. Those 2 dozen recruits each individually were their own problem, not Mark Richt and Mark Richt and his coaching staff will not ever again make such mistakes – then there is Carlton Thomas and Isaiah Crowell – BOTH – today who both are obviously exactly the same as the 2 dozen he ran off this season.
So, those 2 dozen pus these 2 ?
Then, never again ?
Same coaches, same recruits, every year, and now all of a sudden it will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

“As much as I’m excited about the Tech game, and the upcoming SEC game against LSU/Alabama, it is certainly true that we haven’t “beaten anyone” yet. Until Mark Richt and his assembled assistants prove they can beat some top competition, I’m 100% in agreement that his job status should remain insecure.”
“I know there are those who love the Kool-Aid. The fact is Georgia will always be the University, and I will always cheer for the team. However, it’s also a fact that Mr. Richt hasn’t done much yet to show competitiveness beyond the mediocre level.”
“Key word: Yet.”
“I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt, and I’m assuming he will demonstrate over the next three games how much he’s learned. But…If he and Bobo mismanage their jobs so that our team loses all three games – a real possibility – he and Bobo should leave Athens forever.”
“In other words, he’s still on the hotseat!”
“Actually, I think Coach Richt has potential, but he will be hampered as long as he keeps Bobo around, and let’s him call plays. Keeping Mike Bobo on his staff is his decision, so he’s responsible for Bobo’s work. Bobo may have some skills, and abilities, and I’m sure he is a great father, husband, and family member, but a D1 offensive coordinator seems beyond his capacity.”
“Let’s hope those of the faithful who drink the Kool-Aid are right, and I’m wrong.”
“I’d sure love to win the next three games, but only if means CMR and CMB have actually improved, and fixed the problems within our football program. Otherwise, we’ll have good seasons only when the rest of the SEC is weak.”
“Go, Hairy Bulldogs. Destroy Georgia Tech.”

There is no way that we could possibly lose to Georgia tek. And, we obviously are not going to get a great opponent in our bowl game; Mark Richt NEVER does. This boils down to a 1-game season vs LSU. Our only opponent all season long we possibly could beat this season. In our 10-win stretch, there is not 1 team who ends the season in the AP Poll Top 25, not 1. I have no expectations that we are November 25 any different from what I said all Summer long in here in would be. We lose to teams we should not lose to, again this season. We have nothing but bad press all season long, again this season. We lose to the top teams, again this season. We are what we have been all 11 seasons, again this season.
Our best win is over a 5-Loss team who is not ranked in either the AP Poll nor in the Coaches’ Poll Top 25 today.
I was asked repeatedly over the last year making this statement about this season, if I felt Mark Richt should be fired if he went 11-3 this season. The answer to that is patently obvious. (1) I said he needed to have a season without all the bad press started off with the 2 dozen kicked-off to the team to which each you said, Good Riddance, and which has ended up with Suspensions that all season long Mark Richt tried to HIDE from us, and that (2) He needed to beat the teams who he should have beat, which he has not done, and that he needed to beat the top teams which he also has not done.
There is no way he has earned his $ 3.5 million dollar annual total compensation this season. Not yet. He did not earn it last year either. Nor the year before that. 2007, he was NOT hosed by the BCS as Richt-0-Philes attempt to put forth, not when he beat NO team who ended up in the top 10 while LSU beat two (2) teams who ended up in the top 10 and while Mark Richt ALSO lost to two (2) really sorry football teams including especially 6-6 South Carolina who did not even play in a bowl game 2007. 2006 was the last season he beat a team who ended up in the top 10 with his win over # 9 Auburn in 2006 but in 2006 he Lost 4 games and ended up the # 5 team in The SEC in every single stinking poll. The last time he “won The SEC” he ended up the # 3 team in The SEC in every single stinking poll 2005. 2005 was 7 seasons ago.

I think we all wanted to give Mr. Crowell he benefit of the doubt, however -
suspensions + pull outs + on top of the smart arse attitude that we have all heard about sums up to a troubled and/or immature individual. After the King and Early experiences our patience has worn thin with prima Donna backs who thinks the world owes them everything…we just want a good ol fashioned tuff guy that can get the job done.
Withblots of returning key players UGA will have a top ranked team going into next season. Indeedvit is an excellent opportunity for Mr. Marshall or any other strong Freshman back.

Mathew you need to get a girl to take some of the tension off of you and UGA football. Your rants about this being a one game season are so far over the top it makes you look even more retarded.
If going 10-2 (possibly), taking the SEC East Title is not good enough for you after coming off a 6-7 season with a terrible bowl lose then it is YOU who has the problem not CMR or the FOOTBALL TEAM.
You are the problem if you cannot see the development of all this young talent for the years to come. You are the problem is you cannot acknowledge the defense is playing its best ball in a decade. You are the problem if you cannot see just how it may have hurt this team TERRIBLY by scheduling Boise week one. You may also note that the USCe game was a “how to lose a football game” clinic. You may notice that out of 117 or so D-1 program only 1 stands perfect.
So YOU, need to get of your soapbox about what all is wrong with the damn program and relax. Wait 9-10 months for college football and UGA has a shot at a SEC Title and a BCS matchup and all you can do is bitch and moan about what is wrong with the program. Incredible…

I am one not ready to give up on Crowell, although I do hope Marshall and Gurley come to Georgia. You can never have enought good running backs.
I have really been impressed with Harten running and also, I thought Carlton has been running well and if he could get his act together, will be a key factor in the Bulldog’s future games.
I think Malcome could be a good running back if given more carries. Can’t wait to see Samuel back and hope Karempelis gets more carries. The more these players play the better off Georgia will be, as the on the field in a live competition against a foe, builds or destroys, the will to succeed and character.
Great job defense!!! Great job offensive line and receivers!!! Murray is an excellent quarterback and I hope Hutson Mason, Christian LeMay, and all the qb’s stay with Georgia!
Hats off to the Juniors coming back next year!!
Best of luck going forward !

Marshall don’t drink the Kool Aid. UGA fans will turn on you faster than a pit bull at a Mike Vick game. Crowell is great and as a fact every player UGA signs is awesome. They just don’t get coached up over there and the hype fades. David Pollack was the last player to come out Athens better than he was going in. Can you say Brian Van Gorder. Superb facilities and tons of cash, just no heart and sould with minimal coaching. Strictly second tier all the way and a superior conference. Kid go somewhere and make a name for yourself.

Of course I.C. is a freshman, and of course he has to feel his way, etc. However, he must also learn the differencee between a real injury and tough football! An ankle sprain is serious, but during many games he takes himself out after any decent contact. That little Harton fellow may not have I.C’s talent, etc. but he took licks that Crowell would have hauled-butt to the sidelines after and went back for more! I.C. ain’t showin the desire, just a little God-given talent. If he had Harton’s “noogies” he would be unbeatable!

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but I think it appropriate, and necessary, to provide attribution of the title ‘Clean, Old Fashioned, Hate’ label to this game. A great American and a greater Bulldog, Bill Cromartie, coined the phrase years ago – and so far as I know is still turning ‘em out – in his book on the rivalry. It’s been years since I’ve seen one of the updated versions, but if it’s available after this year’s game, I think I’ll add it to my gift list…which means I believe that ‘the genius’ Paul Johnson, will have had his arrogant self exposed as just that, an egoist that always blames others for his failings.

And that has’t nothing to do with Tech. Look, I’m a UGA alum but I don’t have a burning hatred for GATech, but I DO hate that jerk of a coach with is 19th century offense and his once you commit to us you can’t talk to anybody else. …BobDog and others who have taken up for Crowell.
I couldn’t agree more. I remember last year all the exhortations, admonitions, etc from some of these same ‘experts’ …even going so far as to badmouth all the coaches/staff if they didn’t sign the kid. I’d like to see how some of you experts and mind readers do after a 300+ pound lineman lands on your ankle. Y’all act like Crowell is the only player in the country who isn’t playing due to injury or living up to the hype as a true freshman. Now we have one calling him a ’smart a$$’. Amazin’.
Then all the writers think Bulldog Nation is “up in arms about Crowell”, just from a few comments by “experts” on blogs.
Hopefully Marshall doesn’t read these blogs; and base his decision on a few ‘expert’ comments.

I’m on the Crowell bus I got onboard the day he signed. The young guy has had a very good first year. I certainly will take the 825 yards and still counting from the guy in his first season. Unlike some of us I won’t make a judgement on his desire play with injury. He knows his body better than anyone and is capable of knowing when he needs to sit and when he needs to run. So stop with the “if it was me and the “he needs to” because it ain’t you and needs to do whats best for him and then the team.

Alabama beat Arkansas who ends the season in the Top 10, and yes they beat Penn State who is 9-2 and # 19 in the Coaches’ Poll, # 20 in the AP Poll and Alabama was the better football team against LSU the # 1 team in the nation – in addition, Alabama will play a GREAT TEAM on the NATIONAL STAGE as a direct result of these facts and that will be win # 2 over a team who ends the season in the top 10. Alabama is # 2 in the nation in every poll as a direct result thereof.
LSU beat Oregon who is # 9 in the AP Poll and # 9 in the Coaches’ Poll, and LSU beat Alabama also in the Top 10 of every poll – both of those wins away from home; LSU also beat # 23 in the Coaches’ Poll West Virginia who is 8-3 playing in the Big East Championship. LSU beat Arkansas who ends the season in the Top 10. LSU is # 1 in the nation in every poll, as a direct result thereof.
Arkansas beat South Carolina 44-28 about what UGA should have beat South Carolina by, if not for Aaron Murray, who was far worse than Stephen Garcia BOTH times he played him. Arkansas’ 2 losses are the # 1 LSU and to # 2 Alabama. Since we will see what Georgia can do against them now, it is fair to point out had we played LSU and Alabama, we would have 4 losses now staring at Loss Number 5 before our bowl game. In fact, had we played Arkansas who is going to end the season in the Top 10, we would already have 5 losses and playing LSU again now next Saturday, we would have 6 losses.
We lose to LSU. LSU has 5 players who have run for more Rushing Touchdowns this season than Isaiah Crowell, including freshmen. Aaron Murray will cost us the game with his poor plays, and run his record to 0-8 vs teams who end the season in the AP Poll Top 25.
We do beat Georgia tek this morning, who thinks that Bobby Dodd did graduate college, instead of being the college drop-out he really is. They also are not aware the Vince Dooley as our head coach never lost to Bobby Dodd as their head coach, and won every game head-to-head. Georgia tek means nothing to us, other than they don’t graduate their football players, they are on NCAA PROBATION in football back-to-back, they ALWAYS lose to Mark Richt at 1-9, they avg # 51 recruiting ranking to Mark Richt’s # 7 rank all 11 years avg both Rivals and Scout, and they try to deny that Georgia tek left The SEC because Bobby Dodd did not want to be part of The SEC Revenue Sharing. We at UGA happily Bobby Dodd, take our $ 20 million Revenue Sharing per season, more than Georgia tek gets total.
Bark Bark Arf Arf 40-17.
Did I mention we haven’t beat anyone, and after the season will not have beat any team who ends the season in the AP Poll Top 25 at all, making Aaron Murray 0-8 vs teams finishing AP Poll Top 25. Yeah, he’s the best quarterback in The SEC. Right.
11-3
November 26th, 2011

The quarterbacks at LSU Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee, the quarterback at Alabama A.J. McCarron and even the quarterback at Arkansas Tyler Wilson are ALL FOUR (4) better than Aaron Murray. Stephen Garcia was a LOT better than Aaron Murray in that game this year, and was better than Aaron Murray last year in that game, head-to-head, too. Kellen Moore was FAR SUPERIOR to Aaron Murray in that game. Tyler Bray was better than Aaron Murray in our game vs the vols this season before he got injured. John Brantley had a superior game as QB than Aaron Murray head-to-head this season, only Florida could not run the football. Jeff Godfrey for UCF was significantly better than Aaron Murray that day head-to-head. Cam Newton was also a LOT better than Aaron Murray that day. John Brantley was so much better than Aaron Murray in that game last year as to render this BS moot, 5-Loss Florida I point out should have been 6-Loss Florida last season. The Colorado QB Tyler Hansen had a LOT better day than Aaron Murray last year, a 7-Loss Colorado I point out, should have been 8-Loss Colorado. Chris Relf was dominating in his performance last year compared to Aaron Murray in that game. Arkansas QB Ryan Mallet was head and shoulders better than Aaron Murray in that game last year.
Aaron Murray takes every snap with no back-up ready again this season, and runs up his stats vs teams who do not finish in the top 25 while losing some of those games and beats NONE of the teams who do finish in the Top 25.
Andrew Luck will be drafted in this up-coming NFL Draft which Aaron Murray is eligible for since he started practicing with this team December 2008 for our bowl game against Michigan State, who like UGA this year, beat no one in 2008. Not 1 team. Landry Jones will be drafted in this up-coming NFL Draft which Aaron Murray is eligible for. You all told me Aaron Murray would be Drafted by the NFL Draft and I said he would not. Matt Bartley will be drafted in this up-coming NFL Draft. Aaron Murray will not be. I can name 20 college quarterbacks this season who are SIGNIFICANTLY better Quarterbacks than Aaron Murray in his entire career.

There is a lot more to being a college quarterback than running up your stats vs teams who not 1 of ends any of his seasons in the AP Poll Top 25.

LSU should fire their OC. They ran the same, predictable run-up-the-middle over and over. Start of the fourth qtr, Danielson said they had run that play 15 times. Then they proceeded to run it 5-6 more times.
Arkansas definitely should fire their OC. They could only score 17 points?
