Georgia’s Todd Grantham focusing on Kentucky, not contract extension

ATHENS — Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said Tuesday he’s focusing on nothing this week but preparing his unit for Kentucky’s offense and leaving contract negotiations to his agent.

Grantham has 14 months remaining on a three-year contract he signed to become Georgia’s defensive coordinator in January of 2010. His annual salary of $750,000 ranks among the highest in the country for assistant coaches.

Grantham’s agent/attorney, Michael Harrison of Stevenson Ranch, Calif.,  told the AJC on Sunday that Grantham wants a contract extension. Harrison said he has already “gotten inquiries” from some NFL teams about the possibility of Grantham returning to that league and that he has “gotten feelers” indirectly from colleges gauging Grantham’s interest in becoming a head coach. Ultimately, however, he said Grantham wants to remain in Athens.

Grantham was asked about his agent’s comments on Tuesday.

“You hire people to do a job for you and I let him handle that part of it,” he said. “My focus is on getting the defense to play well and getting us ready for the Kentucky game and getting ready to win the SEC East, truthfully.”

Grantham’s defense has climbed to No. 4 in the nation statistically as the Bulldogs have won eight straight games. A win over Kentucky on Saturday will clinch a berth in the Dec. 3 SEC Championship Game in the Georgia Dome.

Grantham, 45, admitted he would like to become a head coach one day. But he said playing in the title game is dominating his thoughts at the moment.

“I think everyone wants to become a head coach,” he said. “First of all, I have a very good job. I was excited to come here because of the vision I had about what I felt you could do with the type of players you can get at the University of Georgia. I’m very excited to be here. Truthfully, I just focus on every situation that’s coming up. For instance, after I leave here I’m going to a third-down meeting to figure out how we’re going to get off the field on third down and then what we’re going to have to do to win the game this week.

“We’re in a championship game this week. There’s a lot of time, energy and study that has to go into each week that honestly you don’t have time to focus on anything like that. You just focus on the next task at hand.”

and for purposes of this exersize , lets assume that Tyson isnt nursing a bum knee, Abry Jones plays more than half a year, we don’t lose Geathers in the first game, we have more than 3 LBs at any time ready to go, Rambo doesnt have a broken hand, and they actually practise during the week after the Ole Miss game.

You may be correct in Stafford I just was nerver impressed with his leadership while in Athens. Like was mentioned those teams where talented and somehting was amiss. Certainly leadership looking back on those teams was one thing, leadership among the players. I tend to put alot of that on the QB1.

Second what LC says. Been saying all along we haven’t had any team players of consequence since Greene, Pollack, Shockley. Stafford seemed even soft to me.

Until now, I thought that Richt was the sleaziest person in Athens.

Now it’s Grantham the Sleazemeister.

Is the University contractually obligated to re-hire Martinez, if Grantham ever gets a HC offer?

Please don’t re-sign an extension until you talk to MR. BLANK of the falcons! The Falcons really NEED you next year!! Bye Bye BVG, go back to Georgia Bulldogs and we take Grantham to coach defense for the Falcons! Yea the more i think about it, it is the best move the Falcons can make and keep a local coach here.

CTG’s defense is playing well, but let’s be real. He will get a raise whether he wants it or not this year, but the truth of the matter is I’m going to use the LSU game/SECC as a benchmark because I really don’t care that we’ve won 8 in a row, soon to be nine.

You want the big money, play the best offenses in the country and shut ‘em down. As noted, he will get a raise no matter what else happens this year, if for no other reason because he’s earned given the increase in team defensive performance this year. But the keys to big money are spoiling LSU’s dream season by beating them in ATL in December.

Go Dawgs!

GTbob must be the same girl as the alleged Vols fan that used to come to the UGA games to slander anything UGA did. The greatest “fight” I ever saw was during the Chic-Fil-A bowl, when this volgirlfan started his usual crude talk and slander, and a man sitting on the next row above the volsgirlfan tapped him on the shoulder, told him to shut up with the crudeness… and then planted his #12 shoe directly into the volsgirfan face! He went crying (like the little girl he is) to security to get the UGA man thrown out of stadium. The security guy threw the WRONG guy out. He should have thrown out the volsgirlfan! Wonder if GTbob is that same little girl? I noticed that volsgirlfan shut his #$%^@ pie hole for the rest of the game. Hey, gtbob, come sit in my section… and see if MY #12 shoe will fit your face as nicely as it did the volsgirlfan. Want some action? Just keep it up, girl.

Admittedly, we were fortunate to be blessed with a relatively weak schedule this year. But there are a few factors I don’t hear the naysayers acknowledging.

· This was not the year to front end load our schedule with some of the toughest opponents. We were so young (particularly at WR and RB) and we had a new OL coach working with very little depth.
· We had to play those first two opponents essentially without our two proven ILBs.
· As young guys have emerged, injured players have returned, Murray has gotten in a groove, and both our entire defense and our OL have jelled … we have become a tremendously improved FB team.
· No way to prove (or disprove) this statement … but if BS and SC had been our last 2 games, as opposed to our first 2, I have no doubt that we could easily be 10 and 0 right now!

Fire Richt? Cracka Please!
