Transcript, provided by UGA, of comments from coaches and players after Georgia’s 45-7 victory over Auburn:
GEORGIA
Coach Mark Richt:
“We just played great. I’m trying to think of another game where we played this well in a situation that was so important to us. We knew South Carolina won its game, so we had to win. We played a top-25 team, a very good football team, and we played solid. I am as proud as I can be of our coaches and players. It’s a great night to be a Georgia Bulldog. … We had tremendous execution. I know we haven’t done that for an entire game like we did tonight.”
“We finished well. We had a lot of first downs when we decided to run the ball and chew up the clock. First downs like that are a tribute to the offensive line, but it also takes the fullbacks and the tight ends, everybody. To have two guys go over 100 yards is a tribute to everyone.”
“I thought the most impressive play of the game was when Quintavious Harrow had that knock-’em-back, get-everybody-in-the-stadium-excited tackle. That ignited our football team.”
“Our fans had a lot to do with our success definitely. They created so much noise. When you see a quarterback walk to every player on the team, you know it’s loud. It slows them down, and it creates a little confusion for them.”
“(After this season’s 0-2 start), I was really hoping we’d continue to improve as the season rolled along. The guys are gaining more confidence and they’re playing hard and they’re playing smart. … After each snap, we want our guys to play hard and play physical. We want each guy to win his 1-on-1 battle. We challenged each guy to win down after down.”
Quarterback Aaron Murray:
“It’s a great win for us. We got off to an 0-2 start, and sometimes the offense was playing great and sometimes the defense was playing great. It seems like it all kind of just clicked for everyone today.”
“All three facets of the game played great. The defense was making it impossible for them, special teams played great and the offense was clicking. It all starts with the offensive line giving me time and opening up huge holes.”
Tailback Carlton Thomas:
“We’ve been working hard. All the coaches and players have been behind each other, and it’s an awesome feeling to come out and do what we did. Everyone was playing tough.”
“Obviously, I got a lot of carries and I was just trying to make them the best carries of my life and make the best of the opportunity.”
“We’ve got great depth and it’s all starting to show late in the season. We’ve just got to keep working. I’m really excited to see where we’ll end up in January.”
Safety Bacarri Rambo:
(On his interception return for a touchdown:) “I saw Abry (Jones) waving for me to come that way, so I did, and those guys just helped me into the end zone. We played great today. It’s a great day to be a Bulldog.”
Linebacker Alec Ogletree:
“Offense, defense, special teams, everyone played great today and it showed. We wanted to come out and play a full game together and that’s what we did. We just worked hard all week and it paid off today in the game.”
AUBURN
Coach Gene Chizik:
“There isn’t a whole lot I can tell you that you didn’t see. It was a disappointing loss for us. We got beat at every phase of the game tonight. We didn’t cover many people all night, couldn’t stop the run and turned the ball over. That’s why we got beat 45-7.”
“Georgia made some good plays and is a very talented team. With the exception of the first drive, they flat out stopped our offense. We couldn’t get some of the perimeter pass game under control. It was pretty evident what we couldn’t do.”
“Hopefully we can fix some of the things that happened. Week in and week out, we look at what the defense gives us and design our game from there. Georgia is tough to defend. Murray threw tonight with great accuracy, which he has been doing all year. We just didn’t do a good job defending the perimeter pass.”
“We’re playing with guys who have the most experience for the last 10 weeks. Tonight, the outward appearance was that we got physically dominated on both sides of the ball. Maybe when we watch film, we will find something different.”
Quarterback Clint Moseley:
“I really can’t put a finger on it. I messed up too much, and this was a big team loss. They got too many yards, and we didn’t get any. It was bad.”
(Comparing LSU and UGA): “Both teams know how to play defense. I don’t want to cause anything by making a prediction, but it will be a great game.”
“I really thought this was the best week of practice that we’ve had all season. We are a young team but that doesn’t make it any better.”
Wide receiver Emory Blake:
“Next week we need to go back to work, watch film and fix our mistakes.”
“I’m a little shocked. I thought we were prepared. We made too many mistakes. They are a good team, but we played poorly.”
Linebacker Corey Lemonier:
“They had a good game plan and came out and executed, and we missed out assignments. They dominated us. We’ll come back next week and try to prove something.”

Any reasonable fan would have looked at the schedule this season and known that even after losing to Boise St. and Carolina that we had a chance for a great season. I think the sign of good coaching is improvement…..CMR, Bobo, and Grantham started the season with a very young team and made them into very tough, physical, disciplined (very few penalties for the season), and efficient team.
Defense is always the key! Offenses will have some days when execution is not perfect……this defense is hitting very hard and wrapping up….fundamentally sound……good job coaching staff.

I’ve been a Richt supporter on these blogs for years – but I do remember being so frustrated while walking out of the dome in the 4th Q of the Boise game. I said then that we needed a new direction….
Very happy that IM not the person who makes those decisions and McGarity is. Until Boise, I had been a staunch Richt guy – and did jump back after the Miss st game – but even though it was for 1-2 weeks, ill be a sacrificial lamb and volunteer to eat crow on behalf of the haters.
When Bennett caught the 2nd TD, I was the only guy right in front of it on the opposite side of the hedges and cbs caught me fist pumping at 34 years old.
So much fun at the stadium today. God bless CMR and god bless our Dawgs! Beat UK!

November 12th, 2011
11:14 pm
@ Fire Bobo – he still made some calls at the end of the first half that puzzled me. The 2 fumbles by Crowell and the shanked punk by Butler were also unacceptable.
So I guess the Dawgs only grade a 99.
The single most complete performance by the Dawgs against a real opponent (Hawaii doesn’t count) since the 2005 SEC Championship game. I was there and all I have to say is…WOW.
30 first downs? Unbelievable.
We ran for 300 yards, they ran for 55.
Murray was brilliant and flawless.
Receivers made huge plays.
But most of all — the D grades out at A(+). I love what what Grantham has done with Jarvis Jones – while listed at LB, he really is playing DE a la Lawrence Taylor. He is in the backfield on every play and teams have to account for him at all times.
And the fans — great noise and atmosphere Dawg fans — that was fun — a lot of fun.
Congrats to our soon to be SEC East Division Champion Dawgs!!!

to all of you that are bashing the “richt haters”, it is obvious from watching this season unfold that cmr owes them a huge debt. He was dangerously close to falling asleep at the wheel and piloting this program into oblivion. The irony of the whole thing is that now that we finally have his attention, he is apparently ready to (for now) pay attention to whats going on. In the end, his critics may very well end up saving his job

I just checked, Georgia hasn’t beaten a ranked team by 38 with Richt, I’m pretty sure Florida was ranked when we beat them 44-0 in the early 80s. This was Richt’s most complete win. Maybe it’s better to play early cupcakes unless you have a senior lead team. These Dawgs can play with anyone. Go Dawgs!

Now that’s exactly how you take a team to the wood shed!!!
Chizik, that’s what you get for crossing that line last year. This is UGA and you better learn some respect!!!
You Auburn fans should take notice, that’s how you win with class and y’all should be thankful that Mark Richt called off Murray.
If Richt was as classless as Chizik and he had not taken the ball out of Murrays hand it would have been 70 to 7.

Best overall game a UGA team has played in a few years, probably since the Hawaii Sugar Bowl.
What is the deal with Crowell though?
Fumbles happen but at times he looks like he doesn’t give a $hit.
Offense really would be clicking if we had a top 10 RB.

Agree with godawgs92; CMR has definitely made the changes to turn this program around, albeit at a much later time than a lot of insightful people would have liked.
It was a great game and a great day to be a Georgia Bulldog! The way this team is gaining confidence and growing, the SECCG, in my mind, is no longer a sacrificial game for the Eastern division winner. Let the West champion get all the hype, etc. We can play loose and with everything to gain and nothing to lose.
My only wish is not to take the air out of the ball with half of the 3rd quarter remaining. For all those who were there, the last 23 minutes were maddening! As long as the other team has their 1st string in the game and are trying to score, I think we should continue to also try to score. If you want to play the 2nd string offense, I agree totally; but quit playing the clock with the game in hand so early. That’s why the stadium emptied and cannot blame our fans, although I stayed and even listened to the band for 20 minutes after the game. We owed AU what we gave them today and more.
Now, no let downs against UK, and let’s get ready to wreck Tech and have momentum going back to the Dome!
Again, great effort by all the coaches (CMR, CTG, CMB and assistants, and all the players! Enjoy it quick, be safe, be smart, and let’s continue what can be special.
All you ticket holders, let’s order the SECCG and bowl tickets and support this team that has worked so hard to make us proud.

@ Larry Ware & all you other Richt lover’s:
I’m not hiding anywhere. What have we done yet? What? Not a thing. A streak against a bunch of lousy teams. We have not beaten a good team this year. For 5 years Richt we have put up with Richt’s inability to win big games. When we consistentyly win BIG games, win SEC and a National Championship, I’ll shut up. We will NEVER win a National Championship with Richt as head coach.
It’s amazing how we beat Auburn 45-7 and now we’re the next Powerhouse National Champion. Ya know, these other fans, who hop on our boards and rip our fans a new one for screaming about how we’re going go undefeated every year after winning a game, are right. You people sound delusional.

Did anyone see the BAGMAN, Trooper Taylor on the field today? Really, Auburn fans, are you proud of him? Or is he necessary as the bagman to get the recruits? Fat, hat on backwards, ready at an instant to incite the dirty play he exacerbated last year. As someone said above me where they would like to put that towel he waves.
Oh, and I guess we are not as sophisticated as the AU fans, Gary Danielson, when you said last year as the reason they cheered when our player was injured. There were a few AU players hurt today and there was NO cheering from the stands, until they were able to get up and walk off the field.
When our players sacked the QB, we didn’t grind our facemask into his chin. We didn’t hit him after the play was over 5-10 seconds. Bagman, it wasn’t your type of game.

Richt should be tied up for another 3-4 years. Recruiting requires it and he has earned it after keeping everyone focused after the 0-2 start. Say what you want about the streak, but we can only play the teams that are on the schedule. I think Florida took advantage of a weak schedule a few years ago with Tebow and no one cried as much. Get over it, give the DAWGS their due. The only thing you can ask for with coaches is to have the players continue to improve and coach Bobo, Friend and the others deserve their props, big time.

How ’bout that hit by “Cootie” Harrow? I’m glad we offered a scholarship to Harrow’s buddy, Isaiah Crowell, so we could sign the hard hitting DB. Now, if Crowell can learn how to be an SEC tailback, that package deal looks pretty good.

I think Q.Harrow and Z. Ogletree have earned their scholarships, unlike what happened with Tenn. and DaRick Rogers. That QB has done nothing, while the two package deals that UGA supposedly did are working out right. If someone brings up the WR from GMC, then that his is fault for not studying and he is a legit prospect for a scholarship.

Wow…just, wow. I’m not a Richt fan and get sick when I think of where this team would be with a better staff, but that was about as impressive as I’ve seen us play under him. We looked like we wanted to win. That’s something new. And, while I hate the fact that he may get a long term deal which will mean we will never win a title, I love seeing us play hard and win. There’s a stockpile of young talent here that will only get better. I hope we don’t waste it like we have in the past.

As said before, UGA can only play the teams on our schedule. Boise State beat the Dawgs fair and square. The SC game could have gone either way, and without a few mental errors the Dawgs win that game. They certainly weren’t blown out, and UGA was on the cusp of being a very good team even then. The rest of the schedule was handled, albeit not to the satisfaction of “fans” who expect a blow-out every game. In baseball, bloops and line drives still go down in the scorebook as hits. Wins are wins, despite your bloodthirst for annihilation of the opponent. An 8-2 record doesn’t come with an asterisk because the victories weren’t by 3+ TDs. At the end of the season, hopefully the Dawgs will be 10-2 and heading for the SECCG. No team I can recall had their spot taken because the margin of victory didn’t meet some arbitrary point differential. Sometimes people can’t be satisfied. UGA is dealing with a ton of fans who have that mindset.

It sure was fun watching this game with a 2am start here in India! Finally our team played with some real emotion like when we beat LSU in the SECCG 2005 and in Athens 2004. Did this game remind anyone of the 2006 team that beat top 5 ranked AU 37-15? I feel much better after our dismantling of a very good AU team…..that beat SC and lost to only top 10 teams! Hold on to the ball IC and play more 2nd team when the game is over at the half! They need to contribute and enjoy by being on the field when it is not required because of situations like last week. Where are all the GT UF UA LSU and SC fans now? It will be interesting to see us play UK and hope we stay focused on that game only? 1030pm start in India since 12 noon there in Athens.

“Dave Cutler, sir, We will beat you because our Quarterback Aaron Murray is BETTER than your group of quarterbacks in this game. We have poor special teams, but our special teams, as poorly as they play, are significantly better than your special teams. Our Defense is stout vs the run. You have no Passing game, at all. None. Our Defense is so far superior to what you have you call a “defense.”
_____________________________________________
I love beating Auburn, and what a tackle by Quintavious Harrow. We came in # 14 and after a win over a team who never had any hope of ending this season in the top 25, a total annihilation as Chip Towers put it, we move up more. Boise State lost to the only other team on their schedule. Steve Spurrier tried his best, but Kentucky is a really sorry team. Aaron Murray had a great game. Georgia tek will certainly not be ranked; just as Auburn is not ranked. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we still haven’t beat a team who ends the season in the top 25. Still haven’t beat a team who is finishing top 10, either. Wish away all those issues all you want; act like God gave Mark Richt this victory; and what you are left with is exactly where we have been these 11 years. In the years we did well, we lost to teams who we should have beat and lost to the top teams too. Then, we got a bowl game against a poor opponent and was not a bowl game on the national stage. Can we do something this year ? You look at teams who look like world beaters vs teams who just aren’t good teams, and then you are brought to the reality that I still say Mark Richt is just going to quit. He seems to me to be carrying some heavy burden, even after the game tonight. You tried putting the win over Florida as a great win over a great team – all that stuff. Doesn’t fly does it ? Auburn 2011 ? Please. I love beating Auburn. I thank Aaron Murray, Carlton Thomas, the entire Defense, Todd Grantham, the addition of starters to the Special Teams, and our fans who were loud today. Is it ok with you, if we beat a team who ends up in the top 25 ? If we beat a team who ends up in the top 10 ? This is not the test. I would like to see us have this opportunity we have against LSU. Do I think what we did today gives us momentum vs such a team ? Do I think we will have a great match-up at season’s end in a bowl game on the national stage against a real team finishing the season in the top 10 ? I had every intention of coming in here and writing differently, gentleman; but, I read your comments 1st. Being a loyal true fan does not mean that you can come in here and say I told you so after beating that cruddy crappy football team. Do we have issues ? I didn’t see 1 today. And, I love beating Auburn, which we are only 1 game behind now after 119 years. I would not want to be Georgia tek, who you know watched our game (I didn’t watch their game.) Cannot see how Kentucky is any challenge or warm-up for LSU either. Exciting game. Well done all-around. Statement to those who think Mark Richt is great for another 4 years, so that he can recruit ? He has recruited for 11 years. Hater ? You have each of you posted nothing but crapola about this football coaching staff, its players and fanbase, the whole entire time you have posted to these blogs. Get over yourselves. Not Hardly. Let’s keept the crowing in perspective… Most of the Mark Richt “haters” didn’t hate Richt just for the heck of it… They’re Georgia fans. They see themselves having lost so many games the last two years, still losing every year to Florida, now losing to a paper team like Boise State… What do you expect? We all want to win. We all love Coach Richt. But if we have to choose, we’ll choose winning. No one’s happier than me to know he’s still our guy. Just hope you are never in that fox hole with the Richt haters. I agree with Lou Holtz that Richt is an outstanding coach and UGA is lucky to have him. I’m betting Penn State wishes he had been their coach for the past ten years. When the trolls can’t find anything substantive about Rich’s coaching to criticize, they attack him because he’s a good man.. That says volumes more about the trolls that it does about Richt. I hope he coaches at UGA as long as JoPa was at Penn State.

Murray’s continuing progression means that whoever we play in the dome will have the second-best QB on the field. Love this group of young receivers and the lack of a reliance on forcing the ball into AJ. Figgins rolling in to the cries of Bruuuuccee! is a play that’s going to be there a lot. Little Tree came in later for him and made some nice blocks, running all over the field after the game. His bigger brother and JJ are legit Sunday linebackers and both lines are now starting to dominate. To the earlier commenters points, I too left the dome downheartened after Kellen Moore carved us up, but this is not the same team with the gelling of the 3-4 and the growing confidence of Rambo. The fg kicker alternation seems to be working, and again the steady improvement of Murray is raising the ceiling on this team’s future. If Blair Walsh gets his mojo back and this defense keeps playing junkyard mean whoever ends up in the BCS title game better be praising the Saints they didn’t have to survive a playoff.

@professor,
There is NEVER justification for leaving a game early. None. If they run all rushing plays, you stay. If they are losing 50-0 you stay. This is our team. You walk out that door early and you are a spectator not a fan.
The only reason a fan should leave early is:
*there is a bomb threat to the stadium and everyone is evacuated
*your wife is going into labor
*your friend/son/daughter/etc. just got arrested for some dubious charge by the Athens/Clarke police and needs you to post bail and get him/her out of jail
*you’re a doctor/nurse//fireman/EMT and you just got an emergency call that you are needed

Great win and finally a complete game by all aspects of the team. IC proved he is a freshman running back and I noticed that after every fumble he sat and watched. In the end he looked as if he got the message and ran as the running back Georgia recruited. Hopefully a year of seasoning will allow him to grow and mature.
Another point. When Georgia was crowned with the Fulmer Cup last year all I read her was that being mercilessly brought up. Who won it this year and why the down play?

Somebody, anybody please get on the Murray bandwagon with me. No, he doesn’t have Matthew Stafford’s cannon arm, but he’s got toughness and durability in spades. This guy is a BALLER and I think his toughness rubs off on the rest of the offensive squad. The offensive line and the receiving corps have a nastiness to them that I haven’t seen in a few years. His intelligence and game preparation is also way underrated. My man got LAID OUT yesterday on the qb keeper, and he POPPED RIGHT BACK UP. I guarantee that crap hurt like crazy, but he just walked back to the huddle. Teammates feed off that kind of stuff, and he deserves alot of credit.

Crowell took some big hits early, and I wondered how he would react. Seemed to make him run even harder.
Great to see the toughness, and hard-hitting all over the field. And smarts. I noticed a half dozen times a UGA player pull up when a pass was dropped, or an opponent ran out of bounds. In the past we sould have smacked em and got a PF flag. Ogletree pulled up twice himself. I don’t know if y’all watched ‘Tree yesterday, but he and JJ are near unblockable.
Honestly, it’s been a while since we’ve had a team like this – not ‘07, because they amassed lots of penalties.

Great game Carlton. It appears you woke up Crowell in the second half. Great play Figgins. We have been waiting for that one. Ogletree….you looked bad at there tonight…..and that means good. Receivers…..fantastic game!! We appear to have the best group in the country. Murray, it is great to see you on. This is the one complete game we have all been waiting for. Special teams, you rock.Walsh, smile. Rambo, you took it to the house. Don’t let down men. Dominate next week and pad your stats. I want the Jackets down 14 before we make that trip over there. LSU/Bama, time to walk the walk. There is a new Team in town that is better than both of you! We can score on your defense and your offense is pitiful. We are fixin to make so cough medicine with some honey. Choke on that! Great job Grantham. Great job Bobo. Proud to have you at the helm Mark. Glad your back 26. Boo who? Now that we have that out of our system let’s get on with the players that want to play. Great job Boykin. Hey B. Smith, it’s time for a breakout game from you. Flat Tire, I’ve been on Bobo’s butt for years, but I’ve been saying since the Boise game that if Murray was sharper and would stop the Ints and fumbles, as well as start hitting wide-open receivers, we would have been praising Bobo this season. He called nearly as good a game vs SC, but the STs and turnovers overshadowed it.
If Murray hit half of his long-ball misses, some of those close games a month ago would have been blowouts. He threw the ball terribly vs UF also (9 straight misses).
He’s sure enough HOT right now. Hope he stays that way through the first week of January . . .

Oh, my heavens we blew away a team who has NO DEFENSE, and NO PASSING OFFENSE.
Please give Mark Richt a raise before he quits. And, give him a guaranteed contract worth more than the 3 best coaches in College Football other than he for beating such a team so badly.
He did so much against CUPCAKE # 9 in a row.
Who is it we play this week as Cupccake # 10 in a row ?
Maybe we can redo his contract before he blows away Kentucky.
Auburn will have at least 5 losses at the end of the season. They did do, however, what we SHOULD HAVE DONE in week # 2 before supposedly

Great game all around. Still not convinced CMR is the guy to take us all the way… Took the heat under his seat to get him focused and motivated. Players and schedule have led to this opportunity in the Dome. If CMR is the real deal, he’ll stomp the Tigers and roll to a BCS bowl. If not, he should get the chance he has earned to try again next year.

Murray’s footwork was better as was the other complaint Ive been writing about this year; that he was looking at just one reciever when he dropped back to throw you didnt see much of that all day so the DB’s werent able to close in as well and be in position to make INT’s or knock the ball away .
Someone must have finally worked with Murray on that

Great job by the coaches… But as far as the comments made by the people today talking bout the MR haters…..( and before you say or think it I was not one of those haters or writers against MR but I was concerned about the state of the program as any true Bulldog fan should have been) Mark needed to open back up some hard line recruiting and get a new DC. Boy did he. Todd Grantham is the man! Look what he has done in such a short time…Mark Richt is the man for hiring Grantham and hey the fire is back…I haven’t seen a better offense or defense anywhere better than the one we have…I say bring LSU on. I think it might play out a little differently than a lot of people believe..

I have been one of the fans that have been very critical of CMR. I will be the first to say-he has turned this program around! The team that beat Auburn last night was not remotely related to the team we had up until 3 or 4 games ago. They played disciplined, with purpose and lights out at halftime. I am impressed! We played like a UGA football team is suppose to play like. Congrats Caon Richt and Go Dogs!!!!!!!

Very impressed by what I saw in Sanford Stadium last night. Congratulations to the players and coaches. I was so upset by the way Auburn behaved last year against us and the way they generally epitomized “winning without class” last year in general, that it was great to witness such a beatdown! If last night’s version of the 2011 UGA team shows up the rest of the way and in the SEC championship game, we have a great chance to shock the nation.
I have been very critical of Richt and I do not apologize for it. He was asleep at the wheel the past 3 seasons. I will give him credit though for appearing to have righted the ship. Let’s beat Kentucky, Yech, and take the dome by storm on Dec. 3rd!

Hit A Single, me too. But I am a die-hard Dawg fan, and have been since a kid in the early 70’s, jump started by my UGA-alum dad. He had a class with Tarkington and Jimmy Orr, both future NFL legends.
Being a Dawg fan does not require a blind love of the head coach. Just because I desperately pull for UGA (and Richt) to win every game, doesn’t mean I have to like Richt. I for sure don’t hate him, but I happen to think something is wrong when UGA has had the #2 football program in the nation in recruiting in the last decade (Scout.com).All of that talent, yet since ‘05 have failed to win even the SEC East.
Even when you look back to ‘07 and the players from that team who are thriving in the NFL, how on earth did Richt manage to lose to two inferior teams (SC and UT)?
Do you have NO doubts about his ability?

Umm I predicted we would win by 2 TD’s against Auburn the other day
Why?
Because Auburn lost 16 starters from last years team
I also said there was no excuse in losing to FL this year and we barely beat a sorry FL team
I think I will keep posting comments until this staff can stop losing 2 games every year that they shouldnt lose to, beat FL 2 years in a row, and win the SEC East outright without having to wait for another east team we lost to earlier in the year lose out.
With the talent we have, and have had, this really is not that hard to accomplish

Thomas – Of course I have doubts. 14 losses in 2+ season should give anyone doubts.
But we dominated Auburn even more than LSU did. Poor results (Vandy) should be criticized. But a near perfect result should result in a “congrats,.” rather than tearing down Auburn as not a top 25 team.

WOW! Now that was a complete game on both sides of the ball. Got to give kudo’s to Bobo – he knew Auburn’s defensive backs would be trying to make sure none of our speedy receivers go by them – so what does he do? – has Murray throw behind them after they turn and run to try and stay with the receiver. Too bad he did not let Murray keep passing. Love how IC runs (when he hangs onto the ball). The defense is playing outstanding – their q-back had happy feet all afternoon, and we shut down their two very good backs. Special teams did a great job also. GO DOGGIES!

I hardly believe beating a team with the # 86 Total Defense and # # 97 Total Offense by a blow-out, has any affect on Mark Richt’s inability to beat the truly great teams, nor does anything to affect on Mark Richt’s inability to beat the good teams. He did, however, not lose to a bad team yesterday, but did nothing about his previous 17 losses to bad teams just like Auburn – all 17 such losses. He has not lost to a team he should have beat since South Carolina and is now 8-2 facing off against LSU. 1st though he has cupcake Kentucky, then cupcake Georgia tek – neither one of which, like Auburn are ranked football teams. That will be 10 in a row such teams. That is all Auburn is. A Cupcake, and you and they KNOW IT.

The DAWGS have arrived and you know when it was evident? When that got called early in the game for excessive celebration in the end zone. Man these kids have really grown up. I have to apologize to Bobo because he does know how to call and plan a good game, when he has faith in his players and let’s them do the job , they know how to do now. Hats off also to our DC, as he is proving to be a darn good coach and has these kids in a zone. Really every coach deserves a well done, for what has been accomplished this year. There wasn’t anything that stood out glaringly as needing to be repaired as far as execution and these DAWGS showed class tonight. No taunting, no putting down the players from the other side. I think this will help our recruiting effort, and I hope we can get some good OL to sign in the near future. If UGA shores up a few places and needs for next year, I think these DAWGS are going to be right near the top.
GOOD JOB UGA DAWGS. Practice hard this week, and keep it up. We may not have played any of the so called giants of the SEC West, but I bet none of them, are thinking they are going to just roll over UGA in the SEC championship like they might have been thinking earlier.

“Not a surprise. Don’t think this is the end of the attrition before fall camp. This program is a total joke, and it has become the laughing stock of the SEC. Richt needs to go, and anybody that continues to support the mess of a program this clown has created must really have on red&black glasses. That will reduce the number of players on campus to about 70, which is 15 below the 85 limit. No depth at any position, no coaches at any position, and a head coach that has had his head in the sand for 3 or 4 years now. Couple all these problems with the fact this staff and Richt can’t even get 25 players in the state that want to come play for these pathetic coaches for 2012. No leadership in this program from the top, the A.D, the head coach, or the upper classmen. Can’t wait to watch this ship totally sink this fall, and hopefully this coach and his staff will be gone. If not, then the new A.D. should be gone. Either way, this will be the last year that UGA fans have to be ashamed of their once proud program.”
Haven’t seen this moron anywhere on the AJC blogs today. Anywhoooo … just like I’ve been saying over and over, Richt ain’t goin’ nowhere!! He’s the best coach in the country (scratch Paterno) and will have his national championship soon. The “immortal” Vince Dooley didn’t win his NC until his 17th season as head coach and there was no where near the parity in the league back then. I’m so glad to see some of the AJC posters who doubted Richt and Co. take back their words and say they were mistaken. Maybe it was the adversity and haters that reawakened his intensity, but I have never doubted his ability and dedication to the University of Georgia and thier football program. Recruiting should be out the roof again this year. God Bless you, Coach Richt. God Bless Georgia. Go Dawgs !!!!

There’s a difference between hating Mark Richt and being critical of the state our program was in. This is what we should expect and it wasn’t being delivered. If we looked like we did last night early in the season we’d be in the top 3 in the country. Yes, this edition of UGA is possibly a very special one. WE DO HAVE the University of Kentucky upcoming and we need to win THAT GAME, as IT IS for the SEC East. KY is our biggest game of the season …………………so far.
UGA ought to score 32-55 points, because everyone else has. KY will likely get 16 on series of blown coverages or fumbles. THEY WILL play tough, hard nosed vs UGA to the end. Fumbles, and pic 6s and punts returned for TDs, all could show up to affect the score.
After that, well, um, we deal with the jellow jackets and then prepare for the DOME. Our last trip to the Ga Dome was not good ………………………..MAYBE it will remind us of playing badly and get us all pumped up.

Very excellent point that you made. UGA Vs BS and even SC UGA was simply not confident. It is what it is. We were not comfortable yet as a squad.
Your point of Mike Bennett, Conely and Ogletree ( hurt foot in BS game) and all the LBs, like Jarvis Jones, Gilliard, and # 83 coming off the end, etc. were not there, so to speak.
UGA’s D got much better, developed some long over due CONFIDENCE and continued to grow. On O, Bennett looks like a pro receiver, as does Malcom Mitchell, Conley and Tavarres King and Marlon Brown.
Using # 89 Figgins from FB position for a nice throw for TD is long, long overdue.
O line? They have matured because they had NO DEPTH, so they got physiclaly stonger and were able to over come fatigue ……………..because they had to. Battle field promotions, so to speak. Losing Dallas Lee was scary then.
Richard Samuel had HIS GAME vs Florida. He MANNED UP and made the difference. Our smaller backs apparently WANT TO PLAY and they do. I love them. Crowell will be a two year project and next year, if he stays clean and makes his grades, will be much better after a full year on the weights. He was NOT in shape when he got to camp in July.

UGA’s schedule lousy? Fine, MATTERS NOT. How do I know? Um, ah, um, look at tonight’s TOP 15 poll and SEE what the writers and EXPERTS and coaches envision.
GT fans ……………….you look silly and frankly, very inexperienced in these matters, in August when some goofy poll ( remember, they are selling magazines) has GT in the Top 20. THE END OF THE SEASON is when it matters.
Tonight, like on Christmas Eve …………we peek under our covers and see UGA maybe #10 or # 12??? When we STOMP KY we then will roll into #09 or # 08. Boise State gets NO RESPECT and ends up in the Fruit Punch Bowl in Fresno California.
GT? TOILET BOWL BOUND AGAIN. The 09 Urange Bowl was a fluke.

It was great to see the Bulldogs rub Auburn’s nose in it. And with class, too. We didn’t even boo Auburn’s injured player.
For all of you that say that our winning season and last night’s victory all belong to Richt – I didn’t see that. Did Richt force the Auburn fumbles (or keep IC from fumbling)? Did Richt change something that allowed the Dawgs to open up holes to run through?
Our team played great last night and Auburn played lousy. I didn’t see anything different from Richt.
I still think Richt should go.

Mixed emotions for me, personally.
Great day for the team. Great day for the Bulldawg Nation. Where has this team been hiding? Even though it was against a lame Auburn team – after losing 18 starters from last year – it was a very impressive performance.
However, my fear is that this will perpetuate Richt’s reign. I still think we would be better off with someone else who is totally committed to coaching and building adolescents into young, responsible men and not distracted by an off the field religious calling. For some reason Richt seems to feel that he has to go to Africa to make a difference when he can have a huge impact on young men right here in Georgia. Maybe he would have done better with a year-to-year contract. We all know that tenure delivers spotty results.
So, let’s put this in perspective. IMO we would be a strong contender for third place in the West and probably have a shot at the ACC title if we were in the ACC. We really won’t know what we have until we meet LSU in the dome. So, until then, I will withhold judgement on Richt and enjoy the success of the team.

Where are the dumba$$ “FIRE MARK RICHT” people now?????????? Bunch of armchair quarterback know-it-alls. You would have pushed our program backwards 5 years had the athletic administration panicked. I really feel that most of the “FMR” crowd were Tech fans hoping UGA would make that mistake. Because if Richt has the time to develop players, they can rest assured that they will continue to win 1 in 9 for the foreseeable future.

Great team effort and I really like the chemistry of this team. And one reason the chemistry is good is because of people like Bruce Figgins. One more thing: I bashed Bobo earlier this year (I still don’t think he’s very smart or creative enough – and I know him) but he called a great game last night. Maybe Richt has been working with him or Bobo has gotten one of those “Ah-Ha” moments. Whatever it is, it appears to be working.

For all of you calling for CMR’s head earlier, I think you need to step back and evaluate the season.
GA has gotten better EVERY week. Will no doubt, play in the SEC Championship game. In fact, Coach Spurrier admitted that GA outplayed SC even though they lost. Rather than colapse, CMR kept the fate, rallied the troops and won. A lesser Coach and team would have not had the courage to climb out of that hole. Just look at Ole Miss……need I say more.
Give CMR much deserved credit. He knew changes needed to be made and he made them. New Coaches, new players, NEW ATTITUDE. Todd Grantham has caught the eye of every football comentator for having brought in a new “Intensity” to the defense. Not bad for being the “3rd Choice”. I wonder how Kirby Smart will feel watching GA play LSU for the SEC Championship? And giving the “Boot” to some good players who thought they were bigger than the team. My only comment is “What took you so long”.
CMR is probably not the best football coach in America but I’ll keep him. Character counts and he wins that category hands down. He may not have the intensity of Saben or Meyer but I’ll keep him. CHARACTER COUNTS. Don’t believe me? Look at the mess at PSU and OSU this year.
CMR has been tested and he passed the test. I am proud he is the “BIG DAWG”.

I blame CMR’s critics for losing the first two games of the year. All the negativity and the fairweather fans that didn’t support the team before we evn played the first game cost us against USC and Boise st. Negative carma from the media and fairweather fans calling for CMR’s job made it very difficult for the players to overcome against two top 10 teams early. The blame should be put squarely on the shoulders of the UGA fairweather fans (junkyard blog) for us not being undefeated to this point.

All of Mark Richt’s changes are after the fact. Try and convert 3rd downs – only when desperation sets in. Put starters on special teams – let’s wait until we have a few kickoffs returned for 99 yard TDs. Why not try doing the right things in the first place? Then maybe we wouldn’t have lost the first two games. Yes, we won the Vandy game and the Florida game, but did you actually see tose games? Do you think that those games were “Mark Richt – Coach of the Year” games?

Dang, if we hadn’t of given that SC game away! And, yes, look at the stats, we gave it away, even according to SOS.
We’ll obviously never hear the end of the “weak schedule” stuff, but what folks outside of the SEC don’t realize is, a bunch of these 5-5, 6-4 teams are that BECAUSE they have 8 games in the SEC. Just look at Vandy. I don’t like their coach, but they could probably contend in the Big East. UT stomped Cincinnati, who stomped NC State worse than Ga Tech, and just yesterday lost their second game (vs WVA).

I was one of those critics of the teams play the last three years. I was wrong about doubting Richt’s ability to turn things around. I don’t think that the critics helped get Richt’s attention as one poster stated on the first page. I also don’t think that the criticism was unfounded. This however, was an extrememely well played game and a great win.
It shows that Georgia has the talent. Martinez was obviously kept too long and that hurt the program. Grantham appears to be a HUGE upgrade. The defense has been getting better every week to the point where we “expect” the Dawgs to play well on defense. That is a significant turn around.
Freind has the offensive line playing the best it has in a couple of years. What a dominating performance by the offensive line on Saturday. Murray had BY FAR his best game. The strength and conditioning of the team looks much improved. Many of Richt’s recent moves have paid off after some serious mistakes.
The special teams were awful against FL and we have had nicomplete games against very beatable teams the last 7 games, but this game shows what Richt, his staff, and all of this talent have the potential to accomplish. Looking forward to Kentucky next week and clinching the East.

Every week – the haters keep coming up with stats that are old and in the past – every week next week will prove the Dawgs are losers – every week the haters say the bottom will fall out – IN THE HERE AND NOW ———–> Dawgs are in the lead for the SEC East title — the Dawgs could very well be 10-2 going into the SECCG – AND – there is no reason to believe we will not beat ANYBODY that suits up against us. We have THE BEST QB in the SEC right now – just look at his stats – Murray has grown into a real SEC QB before our eyes. We actually got better after just the first game, but we got Ingramed….and Latimored. All the negative talk about Bobo’s play-calling because we’d try a run up the middle…well, that’s a standard, basic play of the run game. And, if the line blocks and the runner finds the seam/hole, then it’s a good play. Just like any other play; if it’s executed properly it’s a good play. As the season progressed, they got better at execution, culminating in a complete, balanced attack against Awbun.

Georgia Tech has the nation’s highest average SAT score for football players, and also the highest average high school GPA.
UGA, on the other hand, had one of the very lowest SAT averages, as well as a very low GPA average. As a result, three-fourths of UGA players are “special admits,” when means that they can not meet the minimum educational and intelligence requirements for admission to UGA, even as low as that is.
Yes, it would be great if Tech was more competitive with UGA, but most Tech fans are proud of our heritage of having intelligent, responsible athletes who go on to rewarding careers and contribute to society.
Contrast this with the very unintelligent t-h-u-g-s that UGA recruits. The 45 arrests over the last four years is proof enough, not to mention winning the Fulmer Cup. Most of these goons are tossed out after their eligibility is over, and many end up on welfare.
UGA is clearly just a football f-a-c-t-o-r-y dedicated to winning at all costs, and most UGA fans are okay with this, with no concern about the embarrassment this brings to the State of Georgia.
Mark Richt is the architect of this situation. With his $3.5 million salary, he will continue to recruit the illiterate brain-dead t-h-u-g-s who he thinks will win. Unfortunately for UGA fans, he’s not remotely in the same league with the top coaches in the SEC.
So the bottom line is that Georgia Tech – win or lose – does so with honor and integrity, while the lowlife gangbangers in Athens continue to embarrass us all.

Great win against our oldest, hated rival! All the positives about the players and coaches have been espoused already, so I won’t repeat them. Therefore, the ONLY thing I took issue with yesterday was not putting Mason in, say, midway through the 3rd quarter; or least all of the 4th. I was dismayed to see him still in there with that big lead.
Haven’t seen a lot of negative comments against Crowell; very good. We have to remember he’s still a work in progress. He still has tremendous ability. After his last fumble, he came back pretty strong and ran with authority. Likewise, hang in there for Walsh; I think he’s coming around.
This team seems to have their minds right. I don’t think they’ll overlook Kaintuck. Two weeks ago I was afraid of what we’d do IF we played LSU in the Dome. I think now we’d give em a pretty good game. But, I contradict myself because first we gotta take care of the Wildcats, then tech.

Old Dog – I agree with you in that sometimes you wonder why CMR seems to come late to the party concerning changes – but I think you have to realize that the man puts the kids first – he wants to give as many of these kids a chance to play and contribute as he can – he wants to reward these kids for all of the hard work they do on scout teaams and practices. In a perfect world this is totally commendable and the right thing to do – I think he wants to have the whole apple pie – he wants to do the right thing AND win too. Unfortunately, in our “win at any cost” culture, he many times pays a high cost for doing right by these kids. I think he could easily just put the primo players on special teams and on and on – but then all of the kids who are not quite elite but who nonetheless bust their butts to make this a great program would get nothing as a reward. It’s great to win all of the time – but if you’re real about this you have to realize that there are kids, families and lives that need to be rewarded and nurtured in these big programs and if that means an infuriating loss now and again – well, life is bigger than football. I love to win and argue and all of that – but when I step away from it and go back to gardening and playing in my shop, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that CMR will not only do the right thing but he will make us proud in the process. It’s great to be a rabid fan and live for Saturdays but in the grand scheme of things – it is, and will always be, just a game.

I’m tiered of hearing about last year and Boise and the Carolina game! I know we lost the first two games and it effects the out come of this season.
This team is getting better every week……..
Our front 7 is playing as good as any front 7 in the nation which helps our secondary in coverage and the secondary is playing to a point to were the sacks are coming from GREAT coverage on those 3rd and longs we are putting them in!
When our O – line is blocking our play calling looks good the O – line knocked auburn off the line all night even in the second half when auburn had 8 in the box cause we only threw it 2 times.
Give credit to bobo he saw something in the film room this week cause every time auburn lined up in man coverage murry threw behind the receiver and had a great throw and catch for big plays….
This is not the same team that started the season it’s been great costing and playing……

And I usually don’t say anything about MIke Bobo and playcalling, but I have asked this question numerous times and no answer has ever appeared:
In overtime last year against Florida, Murray threw the interception that ended the game with a loss – was that because of playcalling or did Mike Bobo tell him to be conservative and keep it on the ground and Murray decided to throw it anyway?
Someone please tell me the answer because it has been burning in my gut for over a year.

I have also heard the Richt defenders saying the last three years “do you think Coach Richt just forgot how to coach? It is all the team’s fault”.. Now I ask, “Did Coach Richt just remember how to coach this year? Or is it the team that is winning the games…in spite of Richt?”.

elsbro, With all due respect if you or any of the fairweather fans don’t think the constant talk and pressure put on CMR’s players to save his job before we even played a game didn’t have anything to do with it you’re all crazy. The players even admitted after the SC game they felt undue pressure to win to save CMR’s job. That is alot of pressure for the dream team to deal with that were playing their first games. That’s just the facts and this should be a lesson to all the fairweather fans that want to go undefeated. Support your team atleats at the start of the season before one game has even been played.

I must admit that I was disgusted after the BS and SC games, however; I knew that the schedule was set up to our favor, and we had a decent chance of salvaging an above average season. I told my son during the DF Coordinator search that Grantham was the man for the job. I just loved his resume and I just had a gut feeling that he was the man for job. However, after the BS game I had my doubts, nevermind that we were missing key defensive components like Alec O. and Christian R. Next we lost a shootout to SC, and special teams and turnovers were the culprits of this loss. I did see defensive improvements during this game. Defensively, we just got better and better with each week. Offensively, we were helter skelter or very unpredictable. I had so many worries about our offensive line. Fast forward to the end of yesterday’s game; I was in total shock. Wow, what a great game. I am so proud of this team, and most importantly I am happy for CMR and Mike Bobo. I knew Grantham could get it done but since the BS game, I had my doubts about CMR and Bobo. Yes, I have always supported CMR just because of his character and faith, but I was growning frustrated. I was like why is the likes of Alabama and Auburn so great when we all are recruiting the same types of players and each are getting their fair share. I knew it had to be coaching. I am proud that CMR was willing to make some changes. I am thankful that our president realized we needed stability at the Athletic Director position; someone who would hold CMR more accountable in his results. All of these changes have translated into a tightly knitted team that is playing its best ball of the year. The dawgs are peaking just at the right time. Unfortunately, this year could be like ‘07 when we were arguably the best team in the country. This year could be another one of those years, and if this scenario happens, guess what, I will take it!!! I love this team and I am very thankful that CMR has been able to turn things around. Please keep the intensity level high. Go Dawgs!!!

Everybody that’s loving the coaches after this win will be ready to fire them after the next loss. Lose to KY and see what kind of responses. Same with GT. There will be some that will complain even if we lose to LSU. Fickle.
It is amazing how a good defense can make an offense look better. And vice versa. We are finally recovering from losing Van Gorder and the Martinez debacle.

SES PULE,
You mean all 35,000 of your fans that show up for your most important game like the one against Virginia tech. I guess you adhere to the philosophy that the loudest fart get’s noticed the most. You and your cohorts left a really bad smell on North Ave. on Thursday. You can try and act superior all you want, but please tell the folks here, just how many of your football players are taking a tough engineering course. How about, how many of them will graduate in four years, or however long they stay in your school? The latest statistics I saw on that had your players with a lower graduation rate than UGA’s. Must be that calculus course they have to take.
You would be best served to stay on your tech. blogs and pray the hearing goes well for you today against the infractions committee. Perhaps it will help you feel a little good, knowing that UGA is going to play in your prep. school of a stadium in November, and once again, leave you with another Christmas present, to cry over. Just think though, in a few more months, you can start to fantasize about football again and tell us how great you are going to be for 2012. I just know, UGA’s good football team is trembling in their boots about this upcoming scrimmage game this year and in future ones in 2012 and beyond. Try and work on more excuses as to why you can’t beat UGA or even some of the lower rated ACC teams.

Great win for Georgia. Their next real test will be against LSU in the SEC championship. No way they look past Kentucky – they have come to far this year to allow that to happen. As a fan of the game who is not from Georgia, and does not have a “dawg” in the fight, I am happy for the team and Coach Richt. Just wondering if all those members of the Bulldog nation who were ready to fry him after a 0 – 2 start will step up an admit they were wrong about the guy, his coaches, and the players. Sorry AR Dawg but that DAWG won’t hunt. The idiot naysayers have done bigtime damage to our recruiting and to Dawg Nation in general. CMR is a damn good coach and a better person and since his job details much more than “just win at all costs”. Think Penn State, Ohio State, North Carolina, Miami, etc. We can all rest assured CMR will never bring that type of stuff down on UGA and Dawg Nation. It will take years to overcome all the negatives from the “Fire Richt” crowd and damaged recruiting images. Lots of the negatives came from GT, Bama, Florida, Auburn, etc. but when your own “family” think they know so much when in reality they probably can’t even spell football, that is enough to invite them and their ilk to support another team. …. You, my friend, should shut your pie hole and enjoy the situation.

This is a very young team that is coming together and serving notice to the rest of the conference that Dawg Football is alive and well. Richt has had the reponsibility in sharpening these young players, many of whom were on high school fields last season. Anyone and I mean ANYONE saying Richt needs to go is either a trolling fan of another school or an absolute dumba%*. So, if you are among the people STILL questioning Mark Richt, look in the mirror and decide which one you are.
Who would be better for the Dawgs? Who would you rather have than Mark Richt? WHO??????? We lose him and we lose one of the best coaches in the game. Other schools are praying that we make the mistake of getting rid of CMR, because they know that if he stays, continuing to build his program, their chances are minimal. That means YOU, Techies. Stop whining so much…you should be used to your November whipping by now.

If life and football was as simple as you think, then it would be a lot more predictable. Remember, by and large this is still a young team with 16 true freshmen seeing action for the first time in the SEC. Grantham is running a NFL style defense that has taken time for our kids to master. The key is that we are getting better each week. For the first time all year I can say I was proud of the OL. The OL finally put together a 4 qtr. game and by the middle of the 3rd qtr. started to wear out the AU defense. Three cheers for Tereshinski, because that new S&C program is clearly paying dividends.
The biggest difference over the last two weeks is Aaron Murray. The game against NMS really sparked him and he took that momentum and built on it yesterday. The guy is playing lights out. Lets hope it continues!

Look, here is the real deal on all the fire CMR debate….CMR is only as good as the people he surrounds hmself with, including players and coaches…CMR is a damn good recruiter, which should transfer into elite teams that win titles (hasn’t transpired). However, his choice of coaches has been his achilles heel…Willie Vanillie was a complete disaster and when coupled with an inexperienced Bozo (the clown at times) the program spent several years circling the bowl!!! Becaue of church and all the other non football related reasons, CMR would not make the necessary and timely changes!!! CMR created all the heat he has received in the press and the blogs…he is not a victim….he desrved it!!!!
Finally, the choice to TG has got this program headed in the right direction and probably saved his butt in the long term. Pretty easy decision by the way….I am not a big Bozo fan, but TG and the stout D makes up for a lot of Bozos short comings. Richt will leave the program before he fires Bozo. Having swallowed that bitter pill, makes me pull that much harder for the successes of TG and the D side of the ball…dont get me wrong here, I love a lot of the kids on the O side of the ball and what they have accomplished (other than Crowell is way soft!!), just no faith in Bozo week in and week out…May be from all the years watching under center at UGA looking out the ear hole of his helmet from the prior play…lots of painful moments!!!
I about fell out of my chair watching CMR in the middle of the Team chanting before pregame!! He needs to bring that intensity and leadership every game…leave the church and charity stuff for Sundays…It appears CMR has the program headed in a positive direction, let’s just hope he can build on the current momentum…There will be derailments along the way which is expected in the SEC so long as we maintain consistency week in and week out…..

You are so full of yourself. It is fans like you that eat the poop sandwiches, never questioning the coach or the program that does more damage to recruiting and the program in general. If you think for a minute that the other coaches and recruiters aren’t negative on UGA regardless of the situation, you my friend are living in denial. If you think for a moment that the program has advanced to the point where it is has nothing to do with Richt being on the hot seat is more denial. Get your head out of your butt and pay attention. Every program has fans like you and fans who are detractors. You are a born follower. Nothing wrong with that. The world needs them too but, you are also a blind homer.
For the record I have never called for his firing but, like so many fans I have seen the deterioration of the program in the last 4 years. The AU game was a great win and a time for all fans to celebrate, even those with less confidence in the program than you have.

Here’s something that should give Georgia fans hope. As long as I’ve been a UGA fan (35+ years), I’ve never seen our offense have so many weapons and options. This Michael Bennett kid is playing like his hair is on fire and deserves some type of Georgia player award. That TD pass he caught yesterday was insane.
Think about this… we’ve got three types of TE’s playing on this offense, all of which are lining up in different places including traditional TE (next to the tackle), hybrid slot TE and a TE playing Fullback. That must be an absolute nightmare for DC’s to scheme against. Not to mention we are loaded at WR with guys like Michael Bennett, Marlon Brown, Tavarres King, Malcolm Mitchell and Chris Conley. Each one of them able to make big plays and all have good hands. We’ve also established 3 solid running backs in Crowell, Thomas and Harton.
The key all year was to get this OL to play up to its size and strength advantage and knock on wood this group seems to be coming together. Yesterday they just beat the pants off the #20 team in the country.
What can you say about the D that the stats don’t already enumerate. Jarvis Jones is the best linebacker in the SEC for my money. Tree had a great game yesterday along with Gilliard and Robinson. The only disappointment thus far this season is Cornelius Washington. Outside of one stellar performance he’s been a ineffectual. This DB corp is the best we’ve had in 20 years. Rambo may hit like my grandmother, but this year his nose for the ball is crazy. Brandon Boykin may be the best DB we’ve had in 30 years. Best decision he ever made in his life was coming back for his senior year. He now has a shot at going in the first round of the NFL draft!
Now beat Kentucky like a drum!

DawgByte: Your last two posts are spot on. I’ve always been a little…I guess disappointed in our home crowds leaving early etc; sometimes not even being loud when we should be. We should be there until the last whistle, then cheer the team as they leave for the locker rooms. The players eat that stuff up and they really do rely a good bit on our being loud (evidenced by them sometimes waving their arms up and down to get us going). A certain program even calls it “The Twelfth Man”. Leaving to beat the traffic? Hogwash. Stay and cheer em on as the leave the field! Relax and stay for the Redcoat Band’s performance afterward. Shadows growing on the field to the strains of “Tara’s Theme”….goodlawdamercy! It’s just righteous.

Georgia has won 5 out of the last 6 against Auburn and Richt has 7 wins against the WarPlainsmen. That’s pretty impressive. The astonishing thing about this spanking yesterday is that Auburn had two weeks to prepare for us. Hats off to Mike Bobo for spotting AU’s outside weakness and dialing up pass plays that left their DB with their thumbs up of their as%es.
I’ve rained on Bobo’s parade all year, but over the last two weeks he’s done a heck of a job. Damn near flawless play calling. The first half screen pass to Figgins was pure genius!

I’ve been monitoring these BLOGS for a few years and from time-to-time felt the need to step in to defend Richt and Granthem (not Martinez—felt he should have been replaced two years before). I’m glad to see I’m not the only DAWG fan that knows something about football. Dooley didn’t win it every year and neither did Butts. The thing I’ve seen out of these guys since Grantham stepped in, is that we’re back to being the JUNKYARD DAWGS ala ERK RUSSELL. And we WILL compete EVERY week with a Defense. Not this “BEND BUT DON’T BREAK” crap that someone sold to Reicht.
In response to a couple of BLOGS I read earlier in this article…….WHAT SAVED REICHT’S JOB…..it wasn’t the Ghost Turds on this site constantly whining about need Dan Mullins or Will Muschamp….it was that cop that pulled the former AD over for DUI. It allowed Reicht time and resources to get back to coaching.

Jborodawg:
Vern Lundquist mentioned it before of the start of the game by saying, “… and the Georgia crowd is still filing in.” A clear observation that the fans were taking their sweet time to get into their seats. Then with 5 or 6 minutes to go in the game CBS showed an aerial few of the stadium and 75% of the people were GONE!!! Vern then said something to the effect of “… and the Georgia fans are filing out of the stadium content to celebrate on the town.”, or something along those lines. I gasped as I saw that aerial shot. My God, this is the oldest rivalry of the South and you’re piling out with 5 minutes to go in the game??? Who cares that AU couldn’t come back – what do you have to do that’s more important than staying until the final whistle?
The sad thing is, it’s not just UGA games. This is a Georgia CULTURAL issue. I’ve lived here on and off isince 1979 and graduated from UGA. For 30+ years I’ve seen Georgians consistently show up late for concerts, professional events… you name it, they’re late. I won’t even go to a Chastain concert anymore, because of all the talking during the performance. It’s just F’ing RUDE!!!
If this was just a UGA thing, then maybe some promo advertising thing could take place to try and change it, but it’s not. This is just flat out a Georgia deal. I HATE it and will never fall into the trap. I show up on time and don’t care if we’re winning by 70 pts. I don’t leave until the final whistle is blown. So if you show up for a game and you see some guy who’s the last guy leaving the stadium you can bet it’s DawgByte.

Thank you Kasay and thank you Tereshinski . You may be close to being a psychotic at times but your old school strength and conditioning philosophy was exactly what this team needed. All that work is paying off now. We are 9 games into the year and look strong. Every team can’t say that. Last year this time our guy’s were worn out by the second half and could not compete in the fourth quarter. This year is like watching a different team.
We can still lose games that we should win if we have a lot of mistakes but at least I feel confident that another team won’t beat us because physically we can not stay with them. That’s why last year was so painful at the end of the year. Physically we couldn’t compete against a good team.

DAWG tired,
I believe these young kids at the skill positions are still in the learning mode but they are on a steep curve and have done great. Considering the team that we should have next year, if we can get a couple more big uglies for the OL, I think the DAWGS will have returned. To get these kids to the point where they are now, takes coaching. Even Bobo did a very good job yesterday. Auburn didn’t have an answer for either the defense or the offense. Hard to believe that S.C. lost to them. The win by UGA yesterday, must have caused “Old Stevie Boy Wonder Spurrier” heart problems. His challenge about, UGA proving they can win a must game, must have made him look like the fool he is, even to his own fan base and they are obsessed about UGA already. Wait till next year when UGA smashes them in their own home.

Fellow Dawgs it is obvious this team has made tremendous strides this year, Auburn had two weeks to prepare and really had no answers for our Dawgs yesterday. That hit by Harrow is indicative to the confidence and intensity which this team is playing with now. We just have to take care of business one game at a time. This goes directly to the improvement on the offensive and defensive lines and being able to win the battle in the trenches. This is a pretty good football team right and getting better.

(assuming we win over Kentucky) What is going to happen is this:
Richt is going to get a 5-year extension on his contract after this season. Then he will assume all is A-OK and will go back to his mediocre coaching and we will have another string of mediocre seasons (especially when we don’t have an easy schedule). Our season this year has been because of desperation over Richt losing his job.

So Old Dog, please help me understand your logic. When we lose, its Richt’s fault and he should be fired, but when we win, all credit belongs to the players and none to Richt ? Brilliant. I guess he gets no credit for hiring Grantham, whose defensive strategy ( executed by the Great players HE recruited) held the #2 rusihing offense in the SEC to 51 yards ? No credit for ignoring idiots like you who probably wanted Hutson Mason to start over Murray, who is BREAKING RECORDS ? Go back into your dog house. OLD DOG !

No more than all the people who excuse CMR for the last three years saying it is all the players’ fault. Who kept Willie Martinez around forever? I guess Bobo is the greatest OC in the league, that is why CMR keeps him? Who decides we don’t need a Special Teams Coach and we can use whomever on Special Teams until it nearly kills us?
Who decides to throw a pass in overtime when we just need to kick a field goal to stay in the game (with the best fiel goal kicker in the country back then)? I am still waiting for the answer to that question.
Where was Coach Mark Richt the past three years as our program went from bad to worse? Did he forget how to coach? Or was he just too complacent, knowing Georgia was not going to get rid of him with years left on his contract that would have to be bought out?

Nothing can please you Old Dog. Yes, the last two seasons were awful. Teams have cycles, but good coaches prove their worth over time. Richt has done that, averaging between 9-10 wins over 11 years. Going to the SEC championship for the 4th time in those 11 years. His record compares very favorably to Dooley’s. You probably wanted Dooley fired after the ‘79 season, when we went 5 and lost 31-0 to UVA on homecoming. Would we have won so dominantly the following season without Dooley ? Take your glass half-full attitude somewhere else. The slogan ” Firings will continue until morale improves ” describes your attitude perfectly, sir. By the way, how has Tennessee done since firning Fulmer ? That was a great move , wasn’t it ?

Well i am proud of our team here . It is my feeling that Grantham deserves a raise as the man knows how to coach defense and with the young team we have the sky is the limit for the upcoming years. I would have to say all the coaches are doing a fine job coaching up to say the least. I also like have to point out that coach Lakatos knows what he is doing well and i am glad we got him on our staff.
Also think about the recruiting sector as well. The way this team has been playing will open up a lot of opportunities for being able to get top notch recruits. We all know recruits have been watching this team that have verbally committed as well as those that have been contacted about playing for Georgia. I am so proud of the way the freshmen we have this year playing like they are.
I would say more but a lot of you have already spoken what if anything could be said. I know you all remember the saying from that movie of which i forgot the name of “If you build it , they will come.”
Well it certainly looks like to me that a fine football team is being built and coming of age and the fans and the victories will come. I see us getting a NC within the next year or two. Just a gut feeling of mine and i am usually right in my gut feelings there.
The way this team has rebounded from the first 2 losses is a good learning experiance for any of us out there in this game of life we all live in fact that when the chips are down in our lives all we have to do is keep praying and working hard and never giving up and God and life in general will improve.

our O-line blocks better when your not running the same plays like Boise
Draw play up the middle
Sideline pass
80% of those 2 calls were called in that game so Boise loaded the box
What happened when we changed it up with Boykin a TD then it went back to conservatism
No crossing pass paterns were thrown until the game was out of reach and we shredded them
Im telling you go back and watch the Boise game then the Auburn game

Flat TIre, scheduling Boise for the first game was the problem. Should have been an easy opponent first to test everything out. What if Holyfield scheduled Tyson for his first professional bout ? Wouldn’t it be better to get some wins first to build some confidence before facing Tyson ? By the way, LSU won the MNC a few years ago with two early losses. If you were a LSU fan, you would have been calling for Miles to be fired. Why does it take Mark Richt to have the heat turned up by the board of Trustees and fans before he realizes I got to start winning ASAP this 2011 season or Im gone.
We are paying him $3 million a year and fans and Trustee members are telling him to make the hard decisions that he wont make.

This was the most complete win I’ve seen in the regular season under Richt since the Dawgs crushed Tech 51 to 7 in 2002. I was lucky enough to be present in 2002 and it seemed the Dawgs could do no wrong. I had my doubts about the Dome to Dome run after the first two games but I never felt that Richt should go. If the Dawgs don’t play down to Kentucky like they seem to do on occasion, they should make it back to the Dome for SEC Championship game and it should be a great game.

Flat tire, Richt’s record against LSU and Alabama is strong . Here are the results during his tenure :
2002 : GA 27 ALA 25 in Tuscaloosa
2003: LSU 17 GA 10
GA 37 ALA 23
2004: GA 45 LSU 16
2005: GA 34 LSU 14 ( SECCG)
2006:did not play either of them
2007:GA 26 ALA 23 in Tuscaloosa
2008 : GA 52 LSU 38 in Baton Rouge
ALA 41 UGA 30
UGA won 6 of 8 contests against these 2 teams from 2002 to 2008, many of them away games
and one of them for the SEC title. My point is Richt has more than held his own against Saban and Miles. How does a 75% success rate show he can’t stack up to those coaches ? Teams win the MNC based on polls ( voting). Richt’s record against BAMA and LSU was not voted on, he kicked their butts 6 of 8 times. Deal with it. This team is loaded with talent, both sides of the ball, and the kicking game. It took them some time to gell, with this nucleus we “should” have the makings of a successful program for the forseeable future. It’s Richt’s responsibility to manage the issues, the players, the program, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. A huge, never ending, stressful job, that he’s compensated for very well. If he doesn’t have the committment and dedication to give it his all, I can certainly understand that. It’s one of the toughest, most time consuming jobs in America.

The win over Auburn was significant because there was something on the line. The SEC East and a spot in the SECCG is still “highly” possible because of that win.
For the record I’m happy for CMR, Bobo, Granthan, Friend, all the Dawg coaches, for the entire team, the alumni, and for the fans. I hope things continue to improve, see my above post, and Mark Richt stays focused on his job. With McGarity there to support him there’s a good chance he continues to build on the recent successes. I lost it after the 2008 AL debacle with better talent we couldnt even score a TD nor FG in the 1st half with 4 NFL starters
I realized then that this staff had the keys to a fine car but had no idea how to crank it.
In my opinion looking at the talent at RB WR QB and Defense thats returning anything less than 11-1 next season in my opinion is a failure

Flat,
Hey couple of questions for ya, and not being antagonistic here.
1) Look at Texas and Mack Brown…would you want the title in ‘07 only to see the program flame out? I think the easy answer and maybe the answer 100% of the time is always take the title, as in Auburn.
Though 4 years later NT aside which prgram would you rather be?
2) You like to look backwards at Richts numbers, but lets just give him the benifit of the doubt for a moment and say he has righted the ship. Recruiting has improved, defense is back to VanGorder years.
What do you see this team capable of? How far in this 10 game window of 2011 can this staff take this team? Whats the ceiling of all this talent essentially in your opinion?

If Flat Tire would look at Richts numbers from 01-07, he would see a winning percentage in those areas comparable to Saban and Miles. It takes a team to win championships. Players can win games, teams win championships. In 08 we started the demise of the team. In 11, we are getting our team back!

Flat Tire, not just against ALA and LSU, but against Saban and Miles, the two coaches you have on a pedestal. I already conceded your point about MNCs and records vs ranked opponents, but you still never directly answered intelligently my point of his record vs those 2 coaches. When they went head to head in the most meaningful SEC game ( Beat the Crap out of Saban’s LSU squad) Richt won. What are you going to say if Richt beats LSU in the upcoming SECCG ? Let me guess :” It wasn’t against a very good LSU team. ” Or, ” it was the players, not the coaching.” Do you think Dooley was a good coach ? I do. Did he have some down years ? Sure he did. Should he have been fired for that ? Numbnuts like you probably would have fired him after the 79 season just before they won the NC and lost only a couple of games over the next 3 years. Saban will also have some down years, if he stays there long enough. He is not loyal enough to stay anywhere for very long, always looking for that next higher paying job. Hell, even know it all LSU fans ( like you) wanted to fire Miles as recently as last year ! So take your hotseat and shove it up your …………

This is for UGA89- Crowell is a top 10 running back. His only problem is strength and conditioning. His attitude is far from apathetic. I have spoken to him and he wants to be great and he loves being a Dawg.
A full off-season in the weight room will produce a rock-toting terror next year.
And everyone who is perfect and has never made a mistake or had a lapse in judgment can keep talking about his attitude, his supposed lack of discipline, and his alleged ME complex. Everyone else should be advised that Isaiah suffers from none of that. He is just an 18 year old kid away from home for the first time and playing football at a major SEC program…all while trying to grow up and find his way.
Give the kid a break. And get his autograph… because he is going to become one of the best running backs UGA has ever had before he’s through.
Count on it.

Grantham is a much better coach than Van Gorder ever thought about being. VG inherited the studs ran out of players left less talent for Martinez….Grantham has developed what we had left, recruited and showed what a real coach is…A developer of talent. VG was a good technician but did not develop anything at GA he ran out of talent and did not develop what we recruited. Go Dawgs!!!!!!!

Mathematics is amazing. Coach Friend has a unique situation. The OL has improved greatly. I know we need more OL but with the small amount of players we have on the OL that means they get more repititions during practice than they would get if we had 15 OL to break in and train. I wish we had more but knowing that the starting five or the sixth substitute are the ones getting more reps they can only get better because of it…..Recruit OL…I know they cannot play special teams and we need the skilled athletes but get the best OL and we will continute to win the LOS.

I will bite. Again Ga may win the SEC. But they ruined their chance at a national championship with the first two losses. period. will be the only SEC team i can remember in the last 15 years to win the conference (if they beat LSU) 3 times yet not get a chance to go to the big dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is what makes me sick. First time (this year) in 30 years to beat FL and Tenn in the same year. that record is unacceptable to me……Show me you can run the table and win a national title……Then GA is back.

Dont get so excited yet still lot of football left to play. I know that alot of you out there wanted to see Mark Richt go but having a soft schedule might have saved his job. Thank God Florida, Tennessee, Auburn are having down years huh?
When was the last time you saw all 3 teams that bad? Im not downplaying our season because it’s not Georgia’s fault its that way but it worked out in Richt’s favor.
No National Championship ahead, Georgia can still wind up in a major bowl. All they have to do is beat Kentucky and Ga. Tech. Right now it looks like LSU in the SEC Championship. If we lose then i think we still end up playing in the Sugar Bowl.
Georgia has alot to play for, Richt has never won 7 in a row so Georgia can finish with a 9 game streak. I think the offensive line played their best game saturday. Isiah Crowell did not. Stay focused and close out the season the right way.

You’re right. This isn’t a season that will bring a National Championship to Athens. The slow start guaranteed that. Georgia will probably play in the Sugar Bowl if they win the SECCG. If the chalk holds and LSU wins, then Bama will probably go to the Sugar, and that’s what should happen.
Still, the Dawgs have made great progress this year and the goal should be to build on that for next year. We’re headed in the right direction now, and we don’t need to look backward.

Auburn Florida and Tennessee all the way back to 1980, combined to have 16 losses only in 1980, 15 losses in 1981 2001 and 2008, 14 losses only in 2002.
Auburn Florida and Tennessee project to 20 Losses combined this season. Combined they already have 15 losses, which only 1980 is worse than. You know Auburn is going to lose to Alabama. I don’t see why Florida would beat even Florida State. And, all 3 figure to lose their bowl games. There is no season in which Auburn, Florida and Tennessee lost more than 16 games all the way back to 1980, thirty-one years ago and with Auburn’s loss to Alabama, they will have matched that as the worst football season for the 3 teams in 31 years.

I really hope Coach Richt is not given an extension. I agree there is a problem of who to replace him with. Why not just keep him on a year-by-year basis. That keeps his feet to the fire and makes sure he has skin in the game (mix metaphors much?).

I for one have seen too many incomplete games to feel that Richt and Co. will EVER win a BCS championship. If you are satisfied with 9-3 or 10-2, you’ve got what you want. Remind me, has Richt and Co. EVER gone undefeated? What is the record against ranked teams? To be the best you’ve got to beat the best.

You’ll tried to say that Mark Richt beating the worst Florida team in 23 years was great stuff. In fact, you went so far as to say how do I know the team is the worst Florida team in 23 years, in your excuse making. Then, you tried to say that can only play the games scheduled. Now, of course, that Auburn is not ranked at all in the Coaches’ Poll and has ZERO votes, you try to say how great it is that we dominated the Auburn team who has the # 97 Total Defense and the # 86 Total Offense. In the AP Poll, Auburn not only is not ranked but has votes enough to only be # 32 before they lose to Auburn and have ZERO votes in the AP Poll too. So, you run in here to tell everyone how wrong the “haters” are you try to label us all, you included. Correct, I submit formally that each of you have said the exact same about Mark Richt as all those you decry this morning as Richt “haters.” I have put your posts about such in this blog. What do you want dude?
Good lord that was a beatdown of a ranked team that has won more in our stadium versus us than we have versus them.
They were confident with their QB just having thrown 4 TD’s in a game and their running game has been off the chart.
We completely stuffed them.
Then after building a big lead, we ran it down their throats.
What exactly do you want if you aren’t satisfied with that??????

Or, if it is not I we are discussing, but your own comments sir – then, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee have not combined for more than 16 losses in 31 years, all the way back to 1980 when they had 16 losses combined. This year they already have 15 losses, before Alabama beats Auburn, which is 16. Is Florida State even going to beat Florida ? Who wins a bowl game out of this group of DOWN teams ?

What do I want ?
Beat teams who end up ranked top 10 which he is 3-10 vs in 11 years to-date.
Not lose to teams who would not end up top 25 teams if they did not beat Mark Richt, which now stands at 17 such losses in 11 years to-date.
Beat # 97 Total Offense and # 86 Total Defense Auburn, does NOTHING to either area I have harped on and YOU SIR HAVE AGREED WITH ME ON. Until this morning, that is, sir.
Now, you say what do I want ?
Rhetorical question, correct ?
Have I not been crystal clear that which I want ?
Beat the top teams better than 3 wins in 13 games over 11 years.
Not lose to 17 teams 11 years who’d not end up top 25 without beating Mark Richt.

Not supposed to hold Mark Richt accountable for the schedule that has seen, for example, Auburn Florida and Tennessee have not lost 16 games combined in any season of the last 30 years, and stand at 15 today before Auburn loses to Alabama ?

Has spewed his venom and countless hours of research being so Anti Mark Richt that he cannot afford to see that this team MAY just be different. He would rather give you the numbers over the past 3-4 years and see this is who CMR is and it is impossible for him to be any different
This 8-2 season is soley smoke and mirrors. The 0-2 start is the only key indicator of who this team is. This is what he would want one to believe. This does not take into account all the young talent that has developed at skill positions and the maturation of our defense.
Nope, it is the old magicians slight of hand trick according to him. We have no hope in this season nor next as long as CMR is the coach. UGA fans do not take into account next year this talent will be one year more seasoned and better prepared to take on a tougher schedule. Nope, we are doomed to fail because he quotes stats that CMR cannot go back and correct.
It is a sad state that you live in. Pulling for a team where you have no hope for. Candidly I cannot imagine why you would not go pull for Alabama or LSU as these are the only teams that seeminly can meet your lofty expectations.

Flat Tire, exile, Old Dog, Thomas Brown…I don’t care what you say, that was a great win against Awbun. This is turning into a pretty good season after a rocky start.
RE Bobo’s play calling: My I offer that perhaps it was more our QB play than play calling? Murray has turned it around…with the same plays that CMB called during the Boise and SC games. He has been a 50% passer and prone to turnovers for much of his young career; with flashes of brilliance here and there. Lately he’s been over 70%. Since you like espn.com/dawgnation and D. AU in ATL, Nov 13 @850pm…thanks for pointing out that CMR is a good coach. Too bad that 4-5 ‘prolific’ posters make it look like Dawg Nation is continually disgruntled. Too bad that writers pick up on a few disgruntled fans and write headlines about CMR being on the hot seat. The majority of us aren’t happy with losses but aren’t necessarily on the ‘fire CMR’ nor the ‘fire CMB’ bandwagons. Some of us see that CMB is a pretty good play-caller but that, especially early on, the team didn’t execute. CMB didn’t fumble and let Ingram run down the field and win the SC game. The Evil Genius bout implanted his visor ONTO his head after that play.
Flat and exile…check out recruiting classes for Texas, FSU, and Flawduh the last few years; and the results on the field. You know all about the other perennial top 10 or top 20 recruiting schools and their records this year, so I won’t list them all. Yep, LSU and Bama are up there in recruiting and results. How ’bout the rest? Shouldn’t they have fired all those coaches years ago, with their records?
“You don’t see anybody knocking down the door the hire Bobo.” So, you overhear all his phone calls and read all his emails? Hmmmm…I wonder if he knows that? I might be ignorant, so please show me the headlines where they’re knocking down the doors to hire Saban and Miles and all their assistant coaches.

Sure looks like an LSU-UGA matchup in the SEC title game. That puts me on the horns of a delimma: Who do I dislike the most? I have detested UGA since my college days at Tech more than 30 years ago, but, by and large, the rivalry has been semi-civil, with just a heavy dose of trash-talking. My single experience with LSU was the Tech-LSU game in the 2008 Chick-fil-A bowl game. The game was a huge mismatch from the start and, when Les Miles, already up 38-3, decided to run a fake punt late in the 4th quarter, his lack of class was indelibly imprinted in my brain and LSU supplanted UGA in the lowest position on my list. I never thought I would say it, but, Geaux Dawgs!

Technically Correct…thanks for the “Geaux Dawgs!” Yes, Miles, Saban, and Myers (and Spurrier@Flawduh) like to rub faces and run up scores. Compare them to CMR and last Saturday; going almost totally to the run game after intermission. I think Murray threw one or two passes. Most Awbun fans and players think that was a class act.
Yep, clean old-fashioned hate and mostly civil. Except the VERY few times Tech has won at Sanford and your players have dissed/vandalized The Hedges. Too bad ’bout the only thing going for Grant Field At Bobby Dodd is the ATL skyline (at night). But, of course our players wouldn’t stoop so low IF there were something to diss. Yeah, yeah, we might ‘excessively celebrate’, but we pay for it on the following kickoffs.

By the way, for y’all that want to compare Richt to Dooley:
yes overall Richt has won 65% of his total games vs. Dooley’s 62%
In the SEC, Richt won 52% vs. Dooley’s 60%
So which one is better?
Also, Dooley looks like he had some down years, but came back the next year.
Richt had a continuous three-year downhill slide.

No bigger fan of Dooley than than right here, but in all honesty it’s far easier to understand a “slide”, and how that happens, than having a bad year, then proving the next year that you got it together, then having ANOTHER really down year right away. You can specualte what slips and how to correct it. But swings from year to year is absolutely no better job of cocaching than letting some things get away from you for some period.
Comparisons are silly anyway. Different era
