Richt: Harrow’s hit ‘most impressive play of the game’

Transcript, provided by UGA, of comments from coaches and players after Georgia’s 45-7 victory over Auburn:

GEORGIA

Coach Mark Richt:

“We just played great. I’m trying to think of another game where we played this well in a situation that was so important to us. We knew South Carolina won its game, so we had to win. We played a top-25 team, a very good football team, and we played solid. I am as proud as I can be of our coaches and players. It’s a great night to be a Georgia Bulldog. … We had tremendous execution. I know we haven’t done that for an entire game like we did tonight.”

“We finished well. We had a lot of first downs when we decided to run the ball and chew up the clock. First downs like that are a tribute to the offensive line, but it also takes the fullbacks and the tight ends, everybody. To have two guys go over 100 yards is a tribute to everyone.”

“I thought the most impressive play of the game was when Quintavious Harrow had that knock-’em-back, get-everybody-in-the-stadium-excited tackle. That ignited our football team.”

“Our fans had a lot to do with our success definitely. They created so much noise. When you see a quarterback walk to every player on the team, you know it’s loud. It slows them down, and it creates a little confusion for them.”

“(After this season’s 0-2 start), I was really hoping we’d continue to improve as the season rolled along. The guys are gaining more confidence and they’re playing hard and they’re playing smart. … After each snap, we want our guys to play hard and play physical. We want each guy to win his 1-on-1 battle. We challenged each guy to win down after down.”

Quarterback Aaron Murray:

“It’s a great win for us. We got off to an 0-2 start, and sometimes the offense was playing great and sometimes the defense was playing great. It seems like it all kind of just clicked for everyone today.”

“All three facets of the game played great. The defense was making it impossible for them, special teams played great and the offense was clicking. It all starts with the offensive line giving me time and opening up huge holes.”

Tailback Carlton Thomas:

“We’ve been working hard. All the coaches and players have been behind each other, and it’s an awesome feeling to come out and do what we did. Everyone was playing tough.”

“Obviously, I got a lot of carries and I was just trying to make them the best carries of my life and make the best of the opportunity.”

“We’ve got great depth and it’s all starting to show late in the season. We’ve just got to keep working. I’m really excited to see where we’ll end up in January.”

Safety Bacarri Rambo:

(On his interception return for a touchdown:) “I saw Abry (Jones) waving for me to come that way, so I did, and those guys just helped me into the end zone. We played great today. It’s a great day to be a Bulldog.”

Linebacker Alec Ogletree:

“Offense, defense, special teams, everyone played great today and it showed. We wanted to come out and play a full game together and that’s what we did. We just worked hard all week and it paid off today in the game.”

AUBURN

Coach Gene Chizik:

“There isn’t a whole lot I can tell you that you didn’t see. It was a disappointing loss for us. We got beat at every phase of the game tonight. We didn’t cover many people all night, couldn’t stop the run and turned the ball over. That’s why we got beat 45-7.”

“Georgia made some good plays and is a very talented team. With the exception of the first drive, they flat out stopped our offense. We couldn’t get some of the perimeter pass game under control. It was pretty evident what we couldn’t do.”

“Hopefully we can fix some of the things that happened. Week in and week out, we look at what the defense gives us and design our game from there. Georgia is tough to defend. Murray threw tonight with great accuracy, which he has been doing all year. We just didn’t do a good job defending the perimeter pass.”

“We’re playing with guys who have the most experience for the last 10 weeks. Tonight, the outward appearance was that we got physically dominated on both sides of the ball. Maybe when we watch film, we will find something different.”

Quarterback Clint Moseley:

“I really can’t put a finger on it. I messed up too much, and this was a big team loss. They got too many yards, and we didn’t get any. It was bad.”

(Comparing LSU and UGA): “Both teams know how to play defense. I don’t want to cause anything by making a prediction, but it will be a great game.”

“I really thought this was the best week of practice that we’ve had all season. We are a young team but that doesn’t make it any better.”

Wide receiver Emory Blake:

“Next week we need to go back to work, watch film and fix our mistakes.”

“I’m a little shocked. I thought we were prepared. We made too many mistakes. They are a good team, but we played poorly.”

Linebacker Corey Lemonier:

“They had a good game plan and came out and executed, and we missed out assignments. They dominated us. We’ll come back next week and try to prove something.”

Let’s keept the crowing in perspective… Most of the Mark Richt “haters” didn’t hate Richt just for the heck of it… They’re Georgia fans. They see themselves having lost so many games the last two years, still losing every year to Florida, now losing to a paper team like Boise State… What do you expect? We all want to win. We all love Coach Richt. But if we have to choose, we’ll choose winning. No one’s happier than me to know he’s still our guy. I don’t want a posturing, lying phony on our sidelines like some teams keep hiring.

The Dawgs just beat a border rival by 38 and you wanna come on here and try and defend your stance? As each week passes and the streak grows, no matter the opponent, it is making you more irrelevant.

Just hope you are never in that fox hole with the Richt haters. I agree with Lou Holtz that Richt is an outstanding coach and UGA is lucky to have him. I’m betting Penn State wishes he had been their coach for the past ten years. When the trolls can’t find anything substantive about Rich’s coaching to criticize, they attack him because he’s a good man.. That says volumes more about the trolls that it does about Richt. I hope he coaches at UGA as long as JoPa was at Penn State.

Coach Grantham is the best thing that has happened to UGA in a long time. UGA can play with anyone in the country. The FG kickers (Walsh) still needs to regain some confidence but we look good.

Don’t overlook Kentucky.

Destroy GT.

Beat LSU.

Murray’s continuing progression means that whoever we play in the dome will have the second-best QB on the field. Love this group of young receivers and the lack of a reliance on forcing the ball into AJ. Figgins rolling in to the cries of Bruuuuccee! is a play that’s going to be there a lot. Little Tree came in later for him and made some nice blocks, running all over the field after the game. His bigger brother and JJ are legit Sunday linebackers and both lines are now starting to dominate. To the earlier commenters points, I too left the dome downheartened after Kellen Moore carved us up, but this is not the same team with the gelling of the 3-4 and the growing confidence of Rambo. The fg kicker alternation seems to be working, and again the steady improvement of Murray is raising the ceiling on this team’s future. If Blair Walsh gets his mojo back and this defense keeps playing junkyard mean whoever ends up in the BCS title game better be praising the Saints they didn’t have to survive a playoff.

Pipe down Larry……Guess what, the haters you refer to are very happy about this win,but in all honesty, the team hasn’t looked this good in years. There has been every reason to be concerned for a while now under Mark Richt’s watch. Hope we destroy UK, GT, give Richt a nice contract, and I believe we have a chance in the DOME!! Go DAWGS!!! And recruit, recruit, recruit!!

@professor,

There is NEVER justification for leaving a game early. None. If they run all rushing plays, you stay. If they are losing 50-0 you stay. This is our team. You walk out that door early and you are a spectator not a fan.

The only reason a fan should leave early is:
*there is a bomb threat to the stadium and everyone is evacuated
*your wife is going into labor
*your friend/son/daughter/etc. just got arrested for some dubious charge by the Athens/Clarke police and needs you to post bail and get him/her out of jail
*you’re a doctor/nurse//fireman/EMT and you just got an emergency call that you are needed

Go DAWGS. That was one of the most complete and dominating games I have seen between two SEC teams all season. Well done. Our coaches and our players have done a great job.

I’ve been a Richt fan all along. My dad, who tought me how to be a Dawg fan, soured on Richt early on but I told him to keep the faith. I think Richt was such a GOOD coach coming into the ‘08 season that his “seat” was so cold he had frozen in place. Sometimes turning the “heat” up helps a GOOD coach become GREAT!

GO DAWGS SIC ‘EM!

Clean, hard hitting everywhere last night – I think Richt fibbed a little (”Iast year’s game doesn’t matter…”) . . .

Is there any way the Dawgs can play 4 more games this complete?

If so, we may hurt lots of feelings in Atlanta and New Orleans . . .

@Joey YES! Every post. Don’t care what he has to say.

Great win and finally a complete game by all aspects of the team. IC proved he is a freshman running back and I noticed that after every fumble he sat and watched. In the end he looked as if he got the message and ran as the running back Georgia recruited. Hopefully a year of seasoning will allow him to grow and mature.

Another point. When Georgia was crowned with the Fulmer Cup last year all I read her was that being mercilessly brought up. Who won it this year and why the down play?

Enjoy the win fans and lets get ready for the blue cats.

4. I WAS WRONG TO DOUBT RICHT. SORRY!!!

Looks like our youngsters have grown up. Fewer mistakes except for Crowells fumbles and looks like they understand they have to play the whole game cause you’re in the SEC not high school. The DAWGS D can stop LSU or BAMAs offense and I’m more confident that the O can score on either one

Somebody, anybody please get on the Murray bandwagon with me. No, he doesn’t have Matthew Stafford’s cannon arm, but he’s got toughness and durability in spades. This guy is a BALLER and I think his toughness rubs off on the rest of the offensive squad. The offensive line and the receiving corps have a nastiness to them that I haven’t seen in a few years. His intelligence and game preparation is also way underrated. My man got LAID OUT yesterday on the qb keeper, and he POPPED RIGHT BACK UP. I guarantee that crap hurt like crazy, but he just walked back to the huddle. Teammates feed off that kind of stuff, and he deserves alot of credit.

Wow, what a beatdown! Georgia just beat on Auburn like a borrowed mule. And they deserved it after last year’s low class, cheap shot Auburn game.

This ranks in my UGA Sanford Stadium memories with shutting out Bama 21-0 in the 70s and whipping LSU in the 2000’s. Now we need the same focus so as to avoid the “we played a perfect game” letdown. Coaching and player leadership can make this like 2002 or better. What a perfect day in Athens!

Crowell took some big hits early, and I wondered how he would react. Seemed to make him run even harder.

Great to see the toughness, and hard-hitting all over the field. And smarts. I noticed a half dozen times a UGA player pull up when a pass was dropped, or an opponent ran out of bounds. In the past we sould have smacked em and got a PF flag. Ogletree pulled up twice himself. I don’t know if y’all watched ‘Tree yesterday, but he and JJ are near unblockable.

Honestly, it’s been a while since we’ve had a team like this – not ‘07, because they amassed lots of penalties.

Maybe ‘05?

Great game Carlton. It appears you woke up Crowell in the second half. Great play Figgins. We have been waiting for that one. Ogletree….you looked bad at there tonight…..and that means good. Receivers…..fantastic game!! We appear to have the best group in the country. Murray, it is great to see you on. This is the one complete game we have all been waiting for. Special teams, you rock.Walsh, smile. Rambo, you took it to the house. Don’t let down men. Dominate next week and pad your stats. I want the Jackets down 14 before we make that trip over there. LSU/Bama, time to walk the walk. There is a new Team in town that is better than both of you! We can score on your defense and your offense is pitiful. We are fixin to make so cough medicine with some honey. Choke on that! Great job Grantham. Great job Bobo. Proud to have you at the helm Mark. Glad your back 26. Boo who? Now that we have that out of our system let’s get on with the players that want to play. Great job Boykin. Hey B. Smith, it’s time for a breakout game from you. Thought you would get a pick last night Williams. Jones, you are the man! Both of you. A complete game Can you believe it? WE have more talent than all those other guys…….we put it together against the defending NC. Not so bad boys. Keep it rollin!!!!

Unbelievable performance. I’m still in shock at how well the Dawgs played. I had a sense that they were peaking (even predicted a 2 TD margin), but I didn’t see this coming. I had my doubts if CMR could get it going again, but they’ve been erased. This is the best coaching job he’s done at UGA. Amazing what a little desparation and some coaching maturity can accomplish at UGA. Dawgs might be starting a 3 or 4 year run here. Hey! I’m a Dawg optimist at heart. Go Dawgs!
