ATHENS – Georgia could be hoisting the SEC Eastern Division trophy by the end of Saturday’s game against Auburn on Saturday – or not.
There are three SEC East scenarios that could play out depending on Saturday’s outcomes:
The good news is the Bulldog Nation should know what’s at stake by Saturday’s kickoff (3:30 p.m., CBS). South Carolina-Florida kicks off at noon.
So, like there were a lot of Bulldogs calling the Hogs this past Saturday night, there will be a lot of Gamecocks yelling “War Eagle” should South Carolina beat the Gators.
“If they can win seven SEC games in a row, we’ll congratulate them and go from there,” South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier told reporters in Columbia on Monday. “The only thing we need to think about is Florida.”
Georgia could lose to Auburn on Saturday and still get to the championship game if South Carolina loses and the Bulldogs beat Kentucky on Nov. 19. But if Georgia lost to Kentucky in that scenario, the Gamecocks would win the East based on the head-to-head tiebreaker.
All those scenarios aside, Georgia knows full well that it can afford to concentrate on nothing but Auburn this week. The defending national champion Tigers (6-3, 4-2) have struggled somewhat during this rebuilding season. But they’ve already done something the Bulldogs couldn’t do — they beat South Carolina 16-13 Oct. 1 in Columbia. And traditionally Auburn has always played well in Sanford Stadium, where they are 17-10 all-time.
Meanwhile, the heat seems to have been turned up on this rivalry after last season’s game. In the Tigers’ 49-31 win in Auburn last year, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray was hit late on more than one occasion by Auburn’s All-America noseguard Nick Fairley and the Bulldogs’ offensive linemen retaliated late in the contest. Eventually two Auburn players were flagged for throwing punches and had to sit out the next week’s game against Alabama as a result.
Georgia center Ben Jones, who was in the middle of all that chaos, was asked if he thought those emotions might spill over into this year’s game.
“He’s not there anymore,” Jones said of Fairley, “so it’s a new year and a new start. We’re just focusing on protecting Murray and him not getting hit at all. No matter who’s there, we’re going to try to protect him.”
But the Bulldogs don’t need last year’s antics as motivation. Almost any SEC championship they have ever won has always come down to beating Auburn in November and Georgia is acutely aware of that.
“It’s one of the biggest rivalries in the game, Georgia-Auburn is. It’s huge,” junior wide receiver Tavarres King said. “It’s a game that’s always extremely high energy. We’re going to work our butts off this week to get things taken care of and so we can continue to control our destiny.”
Said Georgia coach Mark Richt: “With the wins that we’ve had and knowing what’s at stake and knowing we’re finally in a position to control it, I think the guys are feeling pretty good about it.”

I’ve been critical of Bobo in the past. However, despite winning some of these games by a more narrow margin than the overall stats suggests, I think the play calling has been good and should have resulted in a more points. He has been exploiting the other team’s defenses down field. Receivers have been running free for potential scores only to be missed by an errant Murray pass. Against NMS, Murray showed improvement and the fans could see the potential of our offense. That will have to continue to win the Auburn game.

Auburn, much like UF is scary with their explosivness with Dyer and McCalebb but I expect the Dawgs’ defense will bottle it up. What I worry about is giving up big plays in the kicking game. Moving the ball on Auburn’s defense will be more difficult than it has been since maybe SC. I think enough plays by Murray in the passing game will get it done.

There is enough to fear here with our special teams and their run game. That being said, Auburn couldn’t stop my high school team’s offense .. Dyer gets his 100 but only hits the end zone once and McCalebb doesn’t even sniff it. He will get his yards too, they are that good in the run game.
I think UGA gets 200 on the ground and 250 more in the air. UGA wins 31-17.

Central to South Carolina’s cause is the health of quarterback Connor Shaw. The Gainesville, Ga., resident was knocked cold at the end of the Arkansas game and was left with a concussion. He’s not practicing the first two days this week and will be reevaluated on Wednesday. Nowadays availability after concussions is usually based on medical tests performed by doctors. So it’s usually pretty cut and dry.

If our defense can come out like gangbusters and commit a turnover or two, just make them do a couple 3 and outs it will be huge. Auburn will have high adrenaline in the 1st quarter and the only way to burst their bubble is to smash it.

Sure wish Bobo would go back and watch his play calling back in 2007 after he had just taken over the play calling. There could be a lot of points scored by the Dawgs if he would look back at what he was doing then. Not near as much UP THE MIDDLE then. Knowshon lined up 9 yds behind the line of scrimmage so when he got the hand off or pitch he had room to find a hole. Crowell may not be a Knowshon but he is that kind of back.

I didn’t read the whole article, zzggyy, but somewhere this morning I read one that said, ft ARK won it’s last 3 games, they will win the West. It went on to say if they win the SECCG, they would get in the BCSCG.
Easier said than done, but it would be funny to see it happen, being that ESPN’s whole world revolves around Bama and LSU.

The Dawgs are fielding a young team Saturday. Young teams have a hard time dealing with the pressure of having an SEC East championship within reach. We will see how much the players have matured following the big win against UF. Getting this young team to focus and take care of their assignments will be a challenge for CMR and staff. CMR did it in 2002 against Auburn (70-X takeoff) and I believe he can do it again this year. If Murray eliminates the costly interceptions and the kick and punt return teams prevent Auburn from making long returns, the Dawgs should win it. GO DAWGS!

Arkansas has won three of the past four games against LSU, including the year that LSU won the NC. They play them very close even when they lose. There is a distinct possibility that Arkansas will defeat LSU again this year.

I think Auburn will win for 3 main reasons:
1- Richt overlooks ranked teams, winless in last 8 games, will be caught looking past Auburn to SEC Championship
2- Murray plays worse against ranked teams, has never won a game yet in his career at UGA against a ranked team, last time he faced one was South Carolina, where Murray committed 4 turnovers.
3- Team is playing poorly against ranked teams, gave up 35 points to Boise & 45 to South Carolina because or poor defense, offensive turnovers, & special teams errors.

It’s easy for everyone to remember last year’s Auburn team (who shockingly were playing a tight game in Auburn against the worst UGA team in 20 plus years last year going late in the third quarter) because of sCam and big dumb Nick. But they forget how UGA beat them 4 straight, with two of those obviously being in JH stadium. Dyer and McCalebb are great backs but it’s not like they haven’t had great backs for YEARS. But against that defense, I think most of us on here could rack up 5 per carry.

Are you going to make an actual point or are you just going to keep going “oh woe is the defense”? Kellen Moore is a heisman trophy candidate and so was Lattimore until he got hurt. That same “porous” secondary and defense has played four of the same teams LSU has and the stats from those games are comparable across the board for UGA and LSU. Try that one.

Another MUST WIN for the dawgs. Regardless of what happens at SC, the dawgs must show they deserve to be in ATL by winning out in the SEC and closing regular season by beating GT. If they can do this they’re a much better team than the one that showed up in the dome at the beginning of this season and earned a shot at the title. @this dawg, yeah, I agree but then again, we are talking about trying to make points against a couple of people who think that in total defense, 21 ypg is a monster difference and that a defense gets tagged with points off turnovers.
Here is the deal, we have seen you trolls come on here all year saying the following:
Can’t beat Miss State and Miss State will win again this year with the Relf going off on the Dawgs.
Can’t beat Tennessee in Knoxville because Tyler Bray is the best in the SEC.
Can’t beat Vandy in Nashville because Vandy’s defense is very underrated.
Can’t beat Florida because, well, Georgia always loses to Florida and Brantley is back.
Yet, they keep coming on here, GT trolls that is, spouting off useless, mindless rants that make no sense to anyone but themselves. So get ready to add this fallacy to the list come Monday.
Can’t beat Auburn because Georgia’s defense isn’t worth the ranking.

These blogs got blasted saying he wouldn’t beat Miss St. Then he wouldn’t beat UT in Knoxville. Then he would be lucky to survive Vandy’s defense in Nashville. Then ALL we heard was how he was going to get beat again in Jacksonville (lot’s of ville’s in here). Yet, there he is helping the team rip off 7 straight. I don’t care what any of you say about the teams because you all think they will beat UGA until UGA wins then you sing a different tune because you’re hypocrites. Give Brickyard a break. He was a lonely child. The other kids refused to play with him, his father hated him and his mother tried to give him up for adoption but they wouldn’t take him. So the only thing he could do was to create a fairy land to live in where he could be smart and good-looking and skinny and popular. Since he was the only person who inhabited this fairy land he had to make up other friends who would tell him how wonderful and witty he is.

thomas,
Once again you post statistics and facts based on of your statistics in hopes that no one will actually check and call your bluff. Concerning this Fulmer Cup crap you like to say that UGA is always so guilty of showing CMR’s lack of control and discipline of the UGA team..
Let’s review the truth instead of the Thomas Brown truth, the REAL TRUTH.
Since 2006, UGA has had a total of 49 Fulmer cup points, leading the pack with 21 points in 2010…
Florida has had 63.
Tenn. has had 37.
Auburn has had 87. and won the cup in 2011. Total points 81.
Alabama has had 37 and won the cup in 2008. Total points 28.
Now this means that UGA won it one year, with the lowest total of points in the year they did win it at 21. This year alone, three teams that finished behind Auburn had more than 21 points, and three others were within 5 points of the UGA winning total in 2010. Th winners that were not SEC members won by a margin equal to or greater than the UGA total for 2010.
You sir are a blow hard, that hopes nobody checks your facts that you somehow come up with in I believe your head half the time.
I had to take a course in statistical analysis for my degree and one thing was made perfectly clear about statistics. Anybody that continually uses them, prefers not to do in depth research, but only enough to make his or her point. In the scientific community, it is known as lazy. All statistical studies can be skewed to prove the persons point and just as easily used to disprove one’s theory as prove it. It is impossible to take into consideration all conditions used or responsible for a particular ending point and statistics are used as only a beginning reference point, not as a valid argument for or against anything. A six year study to arrive at statistical data to prove a point, is not even valid in the real world,, much less the scientific one. I could quote you statistics hours on end about climatology, and Astrophysics and I could skew them, so that you could present them as evidence of the world coming to an end based on the coming ice age theory or the theory suggesting that the sun will destroy us all in a giant flare one day. They would mean about as much as your statistics do. UGA has been playing football for 123 years now, and had a flotilla of coaches. Thank God, there are smarter men than you, that makes decisions based on facts that count for something, other than the rantings of what appears to me to be, a deranged person who delights in always trying to find negative things to say about one team, or class of fans.

It was not a big surprise that they beat ClemPson. They were so overraided. Any team that can run the ball decently will beat them.
VT comes with a whole different defense and will give them fits. They know that and don’t want to deal with it so they come on here living through other schools fans because they know they don’t stand a chance on the 26th either.

Comparing Stats with LSU! Are you Kidding me?
First and Foremost. Outside of the MSU game, every game LSU has played in against common opponents the LSU team played 3rd and 4th team players starting in the 3rd quarter and those games unlike UGA were decided practically by half time. Stats are for losers trying to make a case for an argument that is already lost.
The program at UGA is STILL the 5th or 6th or 7th best program in the conference and without major injuries to your rivals teams we all know that games and results would turn out differently. But that is part of the game. LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, USC, Florida and then Georgia and Auburn. Let Mike Leach take over at Ole Miss and see if Georgia would want to play that helter skelter offense an an annual basis. Do not look over your shoulder but Dooley at Tennessee is going to have a junior laden team returning in 2012 and life may be a little different for some of those teams they play.

Lets continue on:
UGA signed a class of All Stars( according to many on this blog). Some( Mitchell and a Few others have done quite well). Others like Crowell have shown glimpses of brilliance, but on that road, he had been suspended twice, had to be toned down for trash talking and sulks on the sidelines when he gets pulled. All in all one would look at that and say he is selfish and arrogant. Mr. Crowell is not going to stay at UGA more than a couple of years or until he either is dismissed or flunks out. We all hope he does not and gets his act together, but chances are he is just using his current situation to get that big signing bonus and monthly check in the NFL.
UGA has done a nice job of getting some players ready to play and others to play multiple positions to help them in their cause. But anyone knows that playing the easiest schedule in the conference has made this team a “paper champion” and the steps for UGA will become much tougher for them starting this weekend. Auburn, Kentucky, GT, SEC CG, Better bowl game against a top team from another conference. In reality, UGA could go 3-2 or 1-4, that is why some folks are laughing at this trash talking and comparing UGA to the great teams in and around the league.

As the entire year has gone, if Brantley is 100 percent on Saturday, the Gators will be tough for SC to beat. If not, the Gators become easier to beat. But Jacoby Brissett is starting to get the entire offense for Florida, and that is not a good thing for the rest of the SEC. 6′6, 250 lbs., great arm, quick, strong, great instincts, innate QB skills, calm, collected….simply a future star. As I posted before, Auburn might want to start recruiting another outstanding Florida second string (current 3rd strong) QB in Jeff Driskell….because he will probably be looking to transfer (like Cam did behind Tebow) after next year.
Also……Richt probably thought the pressure was over after the Florida game……well…..let Georgia lose to Auburn and SC beat Florida…..and all you Dawg fans will be jumping back off the bandwagon once again….waiting for summer to come around again to rekindle your dreams (or you reoccuring nightmare). But….if the Dawgs don’t win the East this year, they may never win it again.

You cannot talk common sense to some UGA fans, We all have those type fans but some of the UGA dimwits are way out there. They really think they are an elite team and can compete with the 3 best teams in the conference, or the top teams like OKS, Stanford, Oregon, or Oklahoma.
UF/USC should be a good game, depends on who is playing and how healthy they are.
UGA/Auburn should be a good game, if Auburn defense plays decent their offense will keep them in the game, but UGA owes Auburn for last years beat down and physical poundings.

Defense has struggled against strong teams this year, Boise scored 35, South Carolina scored 45, both teams raked up @400 yards of total offense. hopefully, the defense will actually decide to show up this time. Offense has scored a lot of points, but made too many mistakes like fumbles for 6, int’s for 6, special teams have been bad in big games giving up td’s.

The upcoming games against Auburn, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech are important. Heck, they’re really the whole season for the members of our football team, all of whom know what it will mean to them to make it to the big show.
I have my doubts about the coaching staff, but the youngsters on our team have, for the most part, done a pretty good job so far. I’m sure they know – as we all know – that beating Auburn and Georgia Tech is crucial to the success of their season, and will prove whether the wins against lesser opponents really matter much.
Kentucky, too, as losing to them would be a major downer.
I don’t see our guys choking though. They’re not like some teams which start strong and then choke (not mentioning any names, but there’s one just an hour or so east of the state line). Our teams tend to get stronger as the year goes on.
I hope Auburn shows up with the their A Game on Saturday. Given what our boys did in the recent showcase at Homecoming, we may have a team that’s ready for a real test. I hope Auburn can give it to us.
Assuming we play as well as we’re beginning to look capable of, and assuming our coaches don’t screw things up too bad, I doubt even an A+ effort by Auburn will be enough to derail this Georgia team.
Somehow, I have a feeling we’ll be cooking with gas on Saturday. I think even our (formerly) not so special teams play will be good.
It is about one game at a time, so there’s little reason to even read the inane comments by boys who live in their mom’s basement, and wish they’d been smart enough to go to the fine trade school on North Avenue.
If I were LSU, I wouldn’t be making reservations for Atlanta just yet. The Razorbacks love to beat LSU, especially in what looks like a good year for LSU.
Can’t wait for Saturday. Bring it on, Auburn.

Ashlon Jeffries has been the biggest disappointment in the SEC this season. He was fat and out of shape when he came into camp and never progressed. His only goal going into the season was to stay healthy for the NFL. Look for the wheels to come completely off the USCe program with a blowout loss to UF and Clemson. Spurrier is retiring as well after bowl loss to whomever.

This site is slow. Yes 35 to 14 because our offense is ready and our special teams bends but doesnt break. Defense wins the dang game. And the 14 comes late, very late!!!!!!!

We don’t need to be concerned about any other games- the Dawgs control their own destiny and, contrary to what anyone says, the team has not forgotten what happened last year

Amazing video of a high school player from Columbia TN who kicks the ball dead straight 75-80 yards in the air. He was 54 of 54 this year…a perfect 100%. Now he needs a college team. Can you please help?
Watch for yourself…it is unreal!
