Auburn-Georgia set for 3:30 p.m. kickoff

CBS will televise the Auburn at Georgia football game this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Sanford Stadium.

This will be Georgia’s second CBS appearance this season and 66th in school history, joining the Bulldogs’ victory against Florida two weeks ago.

Although Auburn (6-3) is coming off a victory against Ole Miss, the Tigers have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses in five consecutive games. The Tigers have lost on the road to Clemson, Arkansas and LSU but defeated South Carolina by a field goal.

Georgia (7-2)  has won seven in a row after dropping its first two games of the season. The Bulldogs control their destiny in the SEC East, needing victories at home against Auburn and Kentucky to clinch a berth in the SEC title game in the Georgia Dome on Dec. 3.

Methinks the writer is trying to suggest that dogs are due for win, if the logic of a win, lose, win, lose, win, _______ sequence of events holds form.

This is a REVENGE game. Everyone should be ready to play and the atmosphere should be electric. Last year UGA got shoved around in the game. Nick Fairley was a punk. Now it is time to knock’em back off the line and show some aggressive play. I expect 4 quarters of payback. UGA may not be wearing black for this game, but it should be a funeral. We need to bury them for all the crap from last year.

@Destin Dawg,

Agree with your assessment on the coverage, especially of wheel routes. We’ve been burned by several teams this year on this play. Don’t see us implement this play on the offensive side of the ball, either. Bama utilized it several times last night.

I think Dooley was a great coach, even though he had some bad years. My freshman year (1979), the Dogs were 5-6, including a 31-0 homecoming loss to an awful UVA team. Lucky we didn’t have blogs back then, as these goofballs ( Richt-haters) would’ve demanded Dooley be fired.Even Erk had a bad year every now and then, yet he was a gread d-coordinator. Great coaches can have a bad year or 2, but have a strong body of work over time. That is the case with CMR, so you CMR haters need to just find a new team to deride, and stay the h away from UGA !

Auburns only strength is running game. UGA’s strength is running D. Auburn’s D hasn’t stopped anyone. Don’t see them doing it Saturday. If UGA plays up to their potential, the game will never be in doubt. UGA wins and blows away Kentucky and strolls into the dome Dec. 3.

Also Albarn is due a serious payback. Dirty football team. Blow them away dawgs!

A lot of if-ing, but if Georgia’s starting offense and defense, and hopefully it’s revamped special teams, plays with as much focus and intensity as they did against NMSU, we should beat Auburn.

As others have said, you can throw the records out the window when these two teams play, and you never know which team will play their best.

But I don’t look for a let down from my Dawgs; not this year! This team can beat Auburn.

It’s payback time! It’s our time this year!

Win this game and move forward towards the SEC Championship Game. There’s just too much to play for to not play focused and intense for four complete quarters. Everything has fallen in place to give us this chance.

Players, practice hard this week, coaches get us a good game plan, and let’s go play hard and Beat the Tigers! .. Go Dawgs!

Let’s not get on my bandwagon yet. Auburn will be the best SEC team we have faced all year. Given that I didn’t have the team ready to play week one and Boise plays a weak schedule, Auburn may be the best TEAM we have played all year. I’ll find a way to lose this one, but thanks to a weak SEC East and UF’s down year, the administration will renew and extend my contract. I love being UGA’s coach.

UGA: Remember when 10 years ago, the SEC East was the best division in college football, and you were third, in a three team race? Well, now it’s almost like the ACC or Big East, but you’re still second in a two team race and the new team ahead of you is USC EAST?

If revenge is what drives you, that should be enough.

Don’t know about “Richt haters,” but I’d like to see Mark Richt improve to the point where our teams are serious SEC championship contenders, with national championship aspirations, most every year, never settling for mediocrity. Either that or leave.

As I see it it, this means being far less wedded to lousy assistants. It means more discipline. It means including character as a factor in recruitment. It means focusing on winning games, too, rather than winning souls.

It is possible that our football team will end up playing for the SEC title. Winning it is possible, too. That’s great, but, if it happens, it has come about through backing into the championship, rather than a frontal assault.

I’ll take it, but we won’t have the chance to back in all that often.

There’s a lot to like about Mark Richt. I don’t see any particular reason to think he couldn’t improve, and accomplish what I hope all of us believe can be accomplished given the resources available.

It’s not all about Mark Richt though, as the University has to demand a very high quality football program, and support the coaches, and the team in every possible manner, to increase the chances of success.

So far, we’ve really not beaten anyone of much note. All wins are great, of course, but we have to beat the teams that Mark Richt has had so much trouble with, and that means the teams with the winning records, the ranked teams, and the teams we’re not supposed to beat.

Will we ever win the championship every year? Of course not, but settling for a late-starting, not so well disciplined team, and crummy play calling is not likely to get us to the championship on very many occasions.

I hope this year we get there, but, if we do, if will be partly because of our weak schedule, and not so much an accomplishment of our coach as some Kool-ade drinkers would like to believe.

What’s his record against ranked teams?

What’s his record against SEC teams with winning records?

What’s his record against the heavy hitters of the SEC?

Can Mr. Richt improve? Will the University demand it?

Beat Auburn, Bulldogs!

To all the Richt lovers…I am for UGA not Richt. Did you watch LSU/Alabama last night? Are we anywhere in that league of play? We are going to win the weakest SEC East division ever and have not beaten a ranked team. I’m not saying Richt should go, but we as a fan base need to demand excellence.

It is funny: all the folks who claim that UGA has this great defense – running or otherwise – under Grantham need to list the great offenses that UGA has shut down this year. Boise? Uhhhh … no Boise shredded UGA.South Carolina? Bad offensive team, and Lattimore had a great day. Coastal Carolina? Please. Ole Miss? Riiight. Mississippi State? Sure, really? Tennessee? Nope. Vanderbilt? Get … real. Florida? They aren’t more than their 5′7″ 170 lb. scatbacks Demps and Rainey when they’re HEALTHY, which they weren’t. New Mexico State? Nada.

Auburn will easily be the best offense that Georgia has played this year. They will also be more battle-tested. Auburn has played Clemson, South Carolina, Arkansas and LSU, all on the road. That’s why they’re the only top 25 team with 3 losses. Against Auburn’s schedule, Richt is 5-4, unranked, and on his way out the door.

By the way, Auburn, who has Emory Blake back, put up 41 points on Ole Miss. UGA only scored 27. If Ole Miss plays Randall Mackey against UGA (Mackey was the #1 JUCO player in America in 2009 … Cam Newton was #2) instead of Zack Stoudt (some guy who couldn’t crack the depth chart at WEST VIRGINIA) Ole Miss has a chance in that game.

Sorry, UGA, but Auburn has a real shot at that game. Auburn is better than any team than UGA has played this year. (Yes, that includes the frauds Boise).

Gerald, not sure where you get your info but, Randall Mackey did play against UGA. He was 3 for 7 78 yards 1 TD and 1 INT plus 4 rushes for -13 yards. 38 yards and the TD pass came on one play which was a pass of a reverse.

Also, do some research sir. Zach Stoudt never played at West Virginia. That would be Bary Brunetti.

The next good team Georgia beats this year will the first. A rout of New Mexico State proves little except that Georgia could beat any high school team in the state. By whooping up on patsies, some of which were paid to come here and take the beatin’ of the week, Richt may have saved his job for 2012 — and even greater depths. He should be fired immediately after the Georgia Tech game.

Auburn fans treated UGA fans and players pretty badly last year. Usually there’s some genuine hospitality between these 2, despite the intense rivalry (and I’ve been to plenty GA-Auburn games). I hope that UGA fans don’t go that route and hope they treat the Auburn fans and players with respect and a welcoming attitude.

If I were to have told you – before the season started – that heading into the Auburn game, which is CBS’s feature game of the week – the following statements would be true….. I wonder what you haters would have REALLY thought…

- UGA would be 7-2
- UGA had a top 10 nationally ranked Defense
- UGA beat Tennessee and Florida in the same season for the first time since 1988
- UGA has knocked FIVE opposing QB’s out of the game
- Bacarri Rambo is 2nd in the country in INT’s
- Our “Dream Team” class of Freshmen has produced a RB who will get 1,000 yards, a gamebreaking WR, a great possession Receiver, amazing depth at LB and Secondary and the best 1-2 DT tandem in the country besides Bama and LSU
- We beat Auburn and Kentucky, we go to the SEC championship game

… if I told you all that before the season, wouldn’t you have been pleased to project it coming true? Mark Richt Haters – STFU.

Wow…

The haters are out today…

UGA’S schedule is what it is… They did make a move to play Boise State and got ran out of the dome… And I’m sure many of you haters actually believe it would play out again if the two teams met today. It would not…

Georgia out played South Carolina. Spurrier (in a rare moment of humility) admitted this himself. That horse shoe stayed in place just long enough to beat Georgia. Remember, we were w/o out best player on the defensive side of the ball – enough to make a difference in the game – likely… Why bring that up? Because if the two teams played today – Georgia beats South Carolina by 10 or more.

Is Georgia better than LSU and Bama. No… And right now, they still have to prove that they are better than Auburn and then need to finish the drill against Kentucky… But I do know this – if they are the East Champion – they will likely surprise a LOT of people of just how good of a game they give either of these teams…

Wishing everyone a good week…

Unless it’s to get spanked by Boise State again. With Auburns extremely young team, almost our entire team will return next year and with the quality of their recruitment team, we’ll have talent building up for years to come. @ Aarh – Auburn beat SC and UGA lost to them so it’s a pretty easy jump to say that Auburn is better than them and UGA, while they outplayed them they lost to them, may not be. Both played them with Lattimore but UGA had them at home while AU won on the road. As for the QB’s during the UF games Auburn did win against the backups but as crippled as Brantley was in “The Party” I would say he was as much a hindrance as an asset. He was truly awful in that game and you beat a one legged QB where we beat a couple of true freshman QB’s. I call it a was except for the fact that we were never in danger of losing.

Been following the GA fans discussion of how they think the Dogs have already won this Saturday’s game and are talking about their chances of beating LSU in the dome, but they better focus on the business at hand this Sat between the hedges. While their recent run has padded their stats they have yet to beat a quality opponent on the field this year. South Carolina 45 points vs the dogs, 13 point vs Auburn. I know the special teams gave up many points vs SC, but their play against Fl did not leave the impression that this problem has been solved. I don’t know how history will rank this team, It certainly won’t be anywhere near 1980 or any other championship team, Georgia has won 7 in a row Simply because of a weak schedule, The only ranked teams Ga has played resulted in losses, Auburn is in a rebuilding year and a Ga victory will prove nothing, If Georgia wins the east it will be by default and will be followed by a sound trashing by who ever wins the west.

ARE THE DAWGS FOR REAL?

Regrettably this question will not be answered even with wins against Auburn, Kentucky and GT.
It will take a win or a great performance in The SEC Championship to answer that question.

The fact that many of us in Dawg Nation must still ask that question is a result of the first two losses / poor play and incredibly weak subsequent schedule.

In all fairness however, they did win them all (so far).

So it comes down to winning the last three and performing well (win or lose) in The SECC.

Bottomline in my opinion.

I’d love to see another Dawg win over The Auburn Tigers or Eagles or Plainsmen or whatever they are calling themselves this week but I have a feeling Auburn is juiced and ready for a roll.

The flaw in your comment James is that accusation that Richt supported are somehow putting a man ahaed of thier interest in the school is completely discredited by the fact that they supported the last guy, and the guy before that and the guy before that just as much. In short, people support Richt because the is the coach of thier school’s team, and THUS, they are the ones who actually care less about the man, and more about Georgia, than those that seem fixated on the him and seem to view it as “his” football program.

I would also venture to say that these are also the people who would support the school, in thier decision to either keep Richt or go another direction just as much. AND it goes without saying, support the new guy more so than the folks who make such egotisticaly claim that they are the ones looking out for the rest of us loyal fans. because as we all know, it would be just a mattr of time before you and others will be down on the new guy despite him being the coach of UGA.

The Game Plan - UGA: 2011 SEC Champs

November 7th, 2011
2:56 am

Defense Wins Championships:

But LSU and AUB offense really sucks. Niether should be able to run or throw much on UGA. UGA’s defense is faster than either offense and can be more physical. (It is great to see that Junkyard Dawg Defense is back. Jones-Jenkins-Boykin-Smith-Ogletree-Rambo and several others are next level -just as good as LSU.)

Auburn will eventually fizzle and we should win: 34 – 14.

However, LSU’s defense really is also great. But the UGA offensive line is big/good enough to handle them and both UGA FBs are blocking machines. Crowell should have just enough room to keep them honest, but rushing yards will be tough to come by though. Also – We don’t need to challenge those LSU corners much.

UGA’s edge – Our Top Tier Tight Ends (Charles- White) and Murray” We can eat beat them down – 6 yards at a time – across the middle and once they pull those safeties in -THEN BOOM: Over the top to TK and Mitchell.

Practice That against Auburn and perfect it against LSU.

Our kickers will come through – Last week’s (NMST) game was just what they needed. But God Bless our kick and punt coverage teams They improved some this weekend, but maybe we should just kick/punt out of bounds. Yall know I am the BIGGEST UGA Fan, but I fear that area may haunt and hurt us (against LSU).

However, ever the optomistic, I’m still picking UGA over LSU: 24-20.

Question for those who want Coach Richt fired. Who could we get that would be better. Looking back at the records of some of the very best coaches stretches like we have had the last few seasons seem to be a common thread. If we win out we should be OK if we play LSU. Richt has a good record against Coach Miles. This would be a tremendous turn around. I am not saying this will happen but it could. Just look at what Northwestern did to Nebraska last weekend. Anything can happen in college football.
Coach Richt seems to.be building a solid core of players for the next few years. I say let this play out. For all of you who think we are not going in the right direction give me someone who might be better and be specific with facts.

What gets me with all the Richt haters on here, granted most of them are from other teams pretending to be UGA fans, is that after an 0-2 start it takes some serious coaching, regardless of how easy the schedule is, to keep a team focused to put together 7 straight wins. Some of y’all need to open your eyes up to that.
I admit, we are a long way from being in the same caliber as Bama & LSU, but I like what I’m seeing over last years team. There has been much improvement. DawgPounder

Auburn’s vastly superior coaching staff wins this one with defense and a varied running attack that Georgia can’t stop. The week off means they’ll be healthy and UGA will be overconfident after pushing around an inferior opponent. Should be a good game for the Tigers. When somebody claims to go to the game as a fan, but is on the computer before the traffic even clears Athens to tell everybody how unacceptable a 63-16 victory was, scolding anyone who dares feel good about winning, you know that’s beyond the pale. NO WAY does that person talk like that in the presence of actual real people.

@karma…not upset at all. In case you haven’t seen the news reels, we’re still in the BCS hunt. We dropped to number 3. Once OKie State loses a game, we’ll be right back on the throne at #2. Where are you ranked and WHO have you beaten this year? Oh that’s right….nobodies. Georgia who? Georgia SEC Least. lol!!

@ Bama Yo Daddy …. UGA 3 of last 4, we OWN you red necks. We’ll show you how to score on Auburn, and I was going to say we’d show you how to score on your girlfriend, but she’s given it up so much this year she is dead last in the rankings, and she is “RANK” !!

Hey Nova Roars I remember the 86 game too. You are not telling the truth.

Well, yes….UGA could win this Saturday because I haven’t heard of any arrests or suspensions this week….but then again…it’s only Tuesday. I love it how the dirtiest school in the SEC calls Auburn dirty. “Hello…Kettle, this is Pot” Woops..didn’t mean to mix UGA and Pot in the same story…Freudian slip

Don’t forget the Trooper Taylor show from last year as well. Oh and the Gene Chizick fist pumping like he was Hulk Hogan or something. I would make every Georgia player watch the last quarter of the 2010 game as a reminder of who is coming to town.

Seriously?

UGA is the most over rated team in the country. Richt has benefited from a schedule that is very weak. Lost to USC, who is proven to be over rated, Lost to Boise who gets little respect for being unbeaten. Who else have you beaten or played? The worse Florida team in years, but had to come from behind…Miss St? Ole Miss? Vanderbilt …that was close? If you would have played the schedule that Auburn has played (or nay other SEC team) you would have 4 or 5 losses right now and no one would be talking about the defense or Richt other than who will replace them both.
This team is fools gold….I hope that they do win out and go to the SEC game…see what they do against a real team….and then see if they can play a good program in a bowl..Central Florida might be available again.

Absolutely the schedule is weaker than the other temas in the West. But guess what everyone gets to rotate their schedule. Next year is our year to play Alabama and we pick up LSU soon. We play the same the rotation that everyone else does so whats your point? We do play the same rotation of schedule that Auburn or anyone else plays in the SEC. Where were your comments 2 years when it was our turn in the barrell with Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Auburn? You will get your chance to play Vandy and Kentucky at some point so until then STFU.
