What they said: Richt, Bulldogs pleased with effort, performance
7:23 pm November 5, 2011, by Chip Towers
Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt:
“I thought our guys played very hard. We got an awful lot of guys in the game. It’s gratifying to see that many guys who don’t normally have an opportunity to get in the game. We got to spread it around, so some of them scored for the first time in their career, and that had to be a lot of fun for them.”
“Aaron Murray was very sharp, there’s no doubt about it. He was on the money and made really good decisions all the way through. When you have five TDs in a half, you’ve played pretty darn good.”
“Brandon (Harton) played extremely well and (Kyle) Karempelis had his moments. (Branden) Smith was spectacular on that first touchdown. It was good to see those guys play well.”
“New Mexico State ran the ball better than I thought they would. You have to give them credit. They kept banging away. They got 400 yards of total offense, which is pretty darn good against our defense.”
“A lot of guys got opportunities that they don’t get often. We told them at halftime, ‘Show your coach that you deserve more playing time.’ I thought we were solid in the second half. It was a good victory for Georgia, and I’m so thankful for that.”
QB Aaron Murray:
- On the running backs — “We had a lot of faith in Brandon (Harton) and he played great. (Kyle) Karempelis also had a great game for us. We felt good about their running ability and about their protection. Those guys were one-on-one with defensive ends and were holding their own.”
- On the offensive performanc — “We started off a little slow, but then exploded in the second quarter for 42 points. We definitely got better today. The whole offense did great a job, but it all starts up front with the linemen.”
TB Brandon Harton:
- On the game — “It was a little nerve-racking at first, but as the game went on I got more comfortable. The coaches did a great job all week of preparing us so we knew what to do. My teammates really picked me up, and made me feel like I could do it.”
- On getting comfortable — “The first run after the fumble I felt pretty good. I saw my whole and hit it and knew that as long as I just did my job I’d be fine. I put a lot of trust in the line, and they did a good job of helping me out.”
CB/KR Brandon Boykin:
- On the defense — “I thought we got off to a pretty slow start, but really played pretty well in the second quarter. It’s always good to see a lot of guys get playing time like they did in the second half. We’re going to keep working as a team to get better”
- On his participation on offensive side of the ball — “I didn’t know exactly what we were going to do coming into the game, but I knew I’d get called on, and it ended up playing out pretty well.”
CB/KR Branden Smith:
- On the defense — “I thought we played pretty good. We still need a little work, but we’ll get in the film room and work together as a team.”
- On 56-yard touchdown run — “It really felt good, and I’m just waiting for another opportunity to come my way.”

Ok, it’s playing out just like I said it would in August and no one would believe me. UGA runs the table…lets just say….and plays LSU for SEC CHampionship…Let’s just say Lady Luck shows up (for the first time since 2005) and we sneak past LSU and head to the Sugar Bowl. In the mean time, Bama has continued to win, LSU is in the top 10 still, but so is Arkansas (having barely lost to LSU in Nov.) Who gets to golden ring between the remaining three leftovers? not Bama, even if they end up close to the top again, they won’t get to the 2nd game in NO after the Sugar Bowl. They didn’t even win their DIVISION! LSU? they didn’t win the conf. championship. Arkansas? really?
I hope this happens if for no other reason than to blow up the BCS and their mythical National Championship.
It could happen…

forget about the other teams in the country……what if OK State is undefeated and Stanford is undefeated, then the SEC will be on the outside looking in if LSU loses to ARK or to the SEC east champ, which while dog fans are already acting like it will be GA because of course Ga, who has not beaten anybody this year, is automatically going to beat Auburn

Well, maybe the light bulb is starting to illuminate in Mark Richt’s brain. Now it’s time to launch Bobo out of here and seal the deal with some real offensive coordinator. While Grantham’s defense has improved, am I the only one to notice that pass protection yesterday was abismal?

what if the only unbeaten team left is Boise State? How do they get denied a chance to play in the NC game, especially if GA wins the SEC and Boise State has a win over the SEC champions.

@ Don…….to answer your question Bama would most likely get the nod for a second BCS bowl even though they didn’t win their division. Just like Uga did in 2007 when we faced Hawaii. We didn’t play in the championship game that year and went bc we were the next highest ranked team.
@ Hairy Dawg……please stop posting! You sound as if you’re typing using broken english. How about proof reading your post? Btw, its “running the table”, not “table running”!

I’m surprised Ray Drew didn’t play more in the first half… in fact I don’t recall seeing him in the game until the 4th Qtr. I wonder what’s going on there, because he’s played well for us all season.
We’re going to have our hands full next weekend with the WarTiggers. Our special teams played a lot better yesterday and they’ll need to play even better. Our D gave up way too many yards to the Aggies, so it’s back to the drawing board and buckle down in practice.
I hope we’ve saved our best of the season for this coming Saturday.

I wish Crowell had Hartons heart or Harton had Crowells Skills. And Crowell you need to watch the ESPN 30 for 30 story on Ricky Williams.
The TEAM needs to pay Auburn back, for how dirty they played, last year.
The Bulldogs are just two SEC wins away, from the dome! The “experts” will not give them a chance, but remember these two games, this year. Texas Tech at Oklahoma, and Northwestern at Nebraska.

Just win these next 2 games, and get to the dome. That’s our “chance” to make a statement. Defensively I feel at this point we are very much on par defensively with the Tide & Tigers, and will get better over the next 3 games. Barring injury, we could give LUS (as the late great Justin Wilson used to refer to them) problems just as Bama did. Offensively, well that’s another matter. We have o-line issues that could make it a very long (and painful) night for Murray.
But just by getting there, it is an accomplishment in itself.,…. That quite frankly was something that 7 weeks ago many didn’t believe possible……I know I didn’t.

I love the Dawgs, but I still don’t trust Bobo.We are just a couple of bad calss away from blowing this.I think Crowell,Thomas should sit the first half and let them think about how they screwed up and heck if Harton and the other backs are doing great let them sit the whole game.

NIce win. We played 75 guys. Yes, we gave up 400+ yards to the Aggies; but it was a with a lot of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string players.
Some of yall still hate on Bobo even tho we scored 63 points?…with subs playing TB the whole game; and with a lot of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string players playing the entire 2nd half? It’s similar production to what some top teams do to their ‘cupcake’ opponents. It’s like saying fire Saban because Bama only put up six; two FGs for the entire game. Still saying fire Bobo? I don’t get it. I know, I know; some are gonna fire back that it was ‘high school’ NM St…etc. Still, 63 points against even NMSt isn’t bad considering the players we used.
I also can’t understand the hate for Crowell. He’s just a freshman; he’s young. Plenty of young players make mistakes. Give him a chance. Before the ‘recent unpleasantness’, he was our leading rusher. I for one hope he gets his act together; learns from his mistakes; and turns into a DGD. He just may do that too. Cut him a little slack.
Wasn’t it great to see Harton and Karempelis shine? I also thought it was great to see players that haven’t played be able to play. They were thrilled to be out there. I’m really glad for them. Plus, we might need some of em in the future.
Don’t start talking playing in the Dome, playing Boise in a bowl, etc…just yet. We still haven’t beaten the confused-Awbun-war eagle-tigers yet (nor Kaintuck). One game at a time please.
Go Dawgs! GATA against Awbun!

Yes, we needed help from AR in beating SC to even have a chance to move towards the SECCG, and must continue to beat AU and KY to get there, but I like our chances.
Though it was only NMSU, but they were next on our schedule and we beat them soundly. CMB called a good game and it was great to see nine different Dawgs get a TD; some for their first time.
Great win and good job all; offense, defense, and special teams.
The haters will post their vitriol as usual for UGA, CMR and CMB, and the trolls their same inane drivel, but it won’t change the fact that UGA is now playing focused football with good play-calling and coaching and is in charge of their own destiny going forward.
I’m not saying we will beat Auburn or Kentucky to win the SEC East or even beat GT, I’m just saying that UGA is playing some good football, and now that we have control of winning the East, I like our chances.
Good to see the Dawgs win as convincingly as they did yesterday with no significant injuries.
If Brandon Harton and Kyle Karempelis both have a good practice week, I’d like to see both get some playing-time against Auburn, and wouldn’t even mind seeing BH get the start; earned it.
At least to this point in his career, IC may have more ‘RB skills’, but he certainly doesn’t seem to have the heart that BH or KK have. For their size; stellar running job both of you guys!
Go Dawgs! and let’s move forward and beat the Auburn Tigers!

That’s a lot of talent to lose if they all do. If we have them all, we should just be even better on defense next year.
If we lose some or all, we’ll just have to coach ‘um up and hope the younger guys can play with as much knowledge, skills, and ability as those you listed do. .. Go Dawgs!

We got to beat AWful Burn because there players and fans is Bammer and UGA rejects. And Coach Richt setting up some payback for all the War Tigger cheap shotting last year. Dawgs put on Champ Belt this year from winning East while Awful Burn is second rate chumping to LSU, Bammer, and Booby Peturdos Arky. Cheese Whez won with Tommy Ts players and highest paid rent a QB in league. Now Awful Burn goning pay price to Piper for that cheating and dirty play on field by Un-Fairly and Newtons. Dawgs coming together on both sides and will embarrass Awful Burn 42 – 10. They gets our Swaggering On and helps to show why Coach Richt is better coach and more Christian.

Bogatay was kicking the ball deep on kick offs. MR has to make a coach decision and play the best kicker or player. I would like to see Bogatay kick a few field goals. Walsh is not getting it done. On the PAT walst was off. Ask alabama about kickers

BlabbyDawg…those “miscues” are a little skewed by all the missed FGs…by Walsh, not the team. EG, IF Walsh were having the year he was expected to have, UGA would have a much higher ranking.
ugab…CMR planned to alternate Walsh and Bogotay on FGs, but we didn’t need to kick any. I hope we don’t need to kick any again against the Plainsmen Kitties; just put up 7s. We don’t need to ask Ala; we’ve seen our kicker already…lol. I reckon CMR will alternate them again, but I also have every faith Blair will get it straightened out. His impressive body of work indicates he will; just like a good batter in a slump eventually gets his swing back.
Crowell has not lost his starting job. And he shouldn’t. Let him tote the rock about 25 times and see what happens. We’re gonna have our hands full stopping Dyer. And, MG, that Lickenspeeger guy?! Makes one-handed catches…just palms the ball, like it’s a nurf ball or sumthin!
If Murray has a day like he did against NM St, and we do well in all phases of the game, we have a good chance. Gonna take a total team effort. That includes us fans being in the stadium on-time or even early and gettin’ loud. That really gets the team fired up.

I’m exited to, but I don’t think Auburn is going to come in and lay down. I do believe we have enough on both sides of the ball to “TCB”. Too much “D” and the “O” is getting healthy, and better.
