Sophomore Brandon Harton gets starting nod at tailbback
12:00 pm November 5, 2011, by Chip Towers

Georgia running backs coach Bryan McClendon (L) talks to suspended starter Isaiah Crowell shortly before kickoff in Saturday's game against New Mexico State. (AJC photo)
ATHENS – Greetings from bright and and sunny Sanford Stadium. But don’t let that fool you. It’s cold here! A strong, cold wind is blowing north-northwest and keeping the flag in the west end zone blowing straight. It’s strong enough that I’d say it will have an effect on the passing and kicking games.
So here’s what I can tell you so far:
- Looks like sophomore Brandon Harton is going to get the start at tailback. No big surprise there. The former walkon was named most promising walkon in the spring and earned a scholarship in preseason camp. In fact, he’d played his way into the rotation in August until a severe ankle injury the last week of preseason workouts sidelined him for the first two weeks of the regular season. He has the most experience of the tailbacks left after the Bulldogs lost four to injury and suspension this week.
- Don’t be surprised to see Nick Marshall line up in the backfield for the Dogs today. Marshall, who is a backup safety and special teams player this season, was an all-state quarterback at Wilcox County, which he led to a Class A state championship. He was actually promised in recruiting a chance to play as the back in Georgia’s rarely-used “Wild Dog” formation. The Bulldogs shut out the media from the teamwork portion of practice this week so there could be all kinds wrinkles we see today.
- Outside linebacker Reuben Faloughi is not dressed out today. No official reason has been offered by UGA but the Athens Banner-Herald reported late this week that his dorm room at at Rooker Hall was searched on Thursday after a student noticed the smell of marijuana coming from within. Police searched the room and no contraband was found and no arrest was made But Faloughi, a sopohomore backup, is not playing today, so make of it what you will.
- Jarvis Jones (mild knee sprain) has been announced as a starter at outside linebacker, so I guess he’s going to go. It was not certain late in the week as he did a lot of exercise bike riding during practice.

I really pity a person so pathetic they would spen a Saturday afternnon posting nonsense on a message board for a team they hate.
How do these wretched nothings like UGA pays or long sordid legacy manage to get out of bed each day with nothing at all to look forward to for the rest of their lifes?

UGA’s best bet for a good bowl game is for USC to win the East and get destroyed by Bama or LSU. If UGA plays in the dome and gets killed it will hurt the bowl game choices I would think. The BSC will not take the loser of the SEC CG if they get killed. the BCS wants the west #2 team of the east #1.

Well it was nice to see Ben Jones not practice gut punches today in preparation for Auburn.
I was nice to see the Dawgs with no personal fouls. Clean game.
Does this count as just a 1/2 game suspension for CROWELL? He would have only played for a 1/2 anyway.

You Dawg fans who keep bashing Tech enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.
UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.
Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a drunken party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is worthless.
J-a-n K-e-m-p exposed the obscene sleazy crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or character.
The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.
So keep on posting your scores all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old janitorial job back before your unemployment checks stop coming.

Do you know the combined record of the teams we have beaten this year? Coming into this week it is 24-31. Not a single one of them coming into this week was better than .500.
We have the easiest schedule ever made. We did not have to play LSU, Alabama or Arkansas. Instead we got the 2 weakest teams in the SEC West. We’re going to win the SEC East with probably 3 or 4 loses. The chances are for the third year in the row the SEC West will put a team in the national championship undefeated.
Turning this ship around? CMR got a gift of a schedule and you think we’re an SEC West team. Guess what, 2 losses in the west and you’re the 4th team in the SEC West. That means right now UGA is the 5th best team in the SEC.
5th. With a weak schedule we’re 5th.
I will say this, we won more games then we did all of last year, 7.

I’d be curious if the NCAA shows up to do the drug testing this week and what do you want to make a bet if they do it the results won’t wait til tuesday… kind of like they didn’t wait to tuesday last week but CMR waited till tuesday… but not until he didn’t have to answer questions and could run from reporters.

@ARDawg, I will take LSU and LSU to win.
Bama’s offense is overrated. That 6-6 tie against UT shows that their wins are built on keeping the other teams defense on the field too long. LSU has a great defense and slightly more weapons then Bama (I think AM is a weak link) and so I think it will be LSU forcing Bama’s D on the field too much and if LSU jumps out to an early lead I don’t see a comeback by Bama.
By the way, Bama homefield advantage is overrated. They scored early against their biggest rival and then from early in the second quarter on they did nothing but wa

tch a 24 – 0 lead become a 28-27 loss.
Advantage LSU.
Besides, go against the talking heads on TV. Their cliche’s are awful when it comes to Bama.
But whoever wins will win the NC.
