Video: Tailbacks, suspensions, character issues and now who totes the rock?

I answer the questions of CineSport’s Noah Coslov about Georgia’s tailback situation heading into Saturday’s home game against New Mexico State. Coslov by the way, is getting married this weekend, so feel free to include your well wishes to him among the comments. Congratulations, Noah. . . .

@Chip .. Don’t look for me to submit one. I woke up this morning wishing the whole thing went away or it was just a bad dream. I just thought it was a little much to look for a news source to dig that deep to try to uncover scandal at a university a couple hours away. Not cracking on you at all. As well, I have been harping on here and the GT blogs about HIPAA and Privacy Act guidelines being a key reason why test results just don’t “magically” appear.

ARdawg, I think is additionally stupid for an athlete where lung capacity and stamina is so important would smoke weed- even once in a while. They might as well smoke cigarettes too.

Crowell’s thinking NFL. He’s one and done. Lattimore and Samuel’s injuries got his attention. No way you get 100% from this guy, ever. You might not get 50% from him. Richt should have given more respect to Ealy

Chip, Any idea why the Dawgs line up in the spread so much when we have an offensive line that is larger than most NFL teams? Why not line up in the “I” and run right at these teams? Did I mention we have a 260lb fullback who appears to acutally block? I like Richt but have questions about Bobo’s playcalling.

tide roll, you can’t be one and done, can you? It thought it had to be at least two years. Plus with his problems and attitude right now he wouldn’t get drafted. IF he grew a pair and and started acting like a man the he could possibly go out after his junior year AFTER he has proven himself worthy. Big IF there.

I don’t disagree with you there one iota. That doesn’t make much sense to these kids though, they think they’re iinvincible. Quite honestly, maybe for this bunch may be not, but pot is ingrained in the culture they grew up in. They are desensitized to the harmful effects. The only bad aspects of they know is when they can’t find any….L

Okay, if drug use is so rare in college sports, there’s no reason not to let the NCAA enforce the drug testing, and establish standard suspensions for violations.

It should have no impact if this is true.

You gotta point, Rebel Yell. When you have a state world renowned for running backs and can’t get one that can do anything, you may have a (God forbid!) coaching issue…..our battin’ average ain’t too hot lately on running backs! The greatest backs, whether at S.C (see George Rogers) Auburn (see Cribbs, Andrews, etc.) or many other schools came from Georgia “High” (no pun intended) schools! Now, we can’t even get one that can grab his ass with both hands? I’m anxious to see the walk-ons. Sometimes, they will suprise you! They just may make plays, and then show back up for work! (Remember Nate Taylor?) A walk on who was as good a linebacker as there was….he WANTED to play!

T. Brown,

You said that the NCAA doesn’t have any jurisdiction when it comes to drug test, enforcement. Take the time to read the below document published by the NCAA rules committee, provided to every school and a copy of which the athlete must read and certify that he will abide by the rules, by his signature. There is also a separate UGA document, stating how they will further be dealt with, if they don’t comply.

“It’s my motivation now,” Jones said. “Every time you get on that field you’ve got to give everything you’ve got because, it’s like they say, you’re only one play away from not playing, and football can be taken away from you.” From Chip’s article on LB Jarvis Jones. We can use as many guys like this as we can get. Read it Crowell, Malcome and Thomas. Take it to heart or just go home.

As big a fan of UGA as I am, I feel its in the best interest of the team for Crowell to be gone. Granted, he is exceptionally talented – but it appears that he is more interested in himself than the team – and doesn’t realize that his antics can cost him more than a spot on the team. After all, what teams would take a play who has been kicked off and whose character is less than questionable (that may not be a good question, after all look at FL and LSU…)? He is a cancer tot he team…

It seems rash to be jumping all over UGA about the timeline and the punishment. I read that UGA was one of only TWO SEC schools that suspend for the first offense. Vandy is the other. Most of the other schools leave it up to the AD and HC’s discretion for the second offense. Mississippi does the same for as many as the THIRD offense. LSU had this problem and they were suspended for the next game, just like UGA’s. Some of you imbicle’s act like that it’s only going on at UGA when it is going on everywhere. Kids fail drug tests, get DUI’s, get arrested for public drunk, etc. Is it OK? NO. But fertheluvagawd, you don’t sweep the department clean for such as this. If that were the case, athletic departments would be vacant all over the nation every other week. So here’s something that the other schools tell all of their detractors, shut up, sit down, know you’re role. It’s the scool’s business, they will deal with it. You support the program or go find some other school. End of discussion.

Who cares its NMST! UGA did not even need to test these guys. CMR did it to prove a point and hopefully they will learn from it. Most of you dbags act like you have never done anything wrong in your life. Crowell will be fine and he will be a great RB for the program. Funny how LSU did the same thing leading up to the UA game and nobody says a word.

Who will carry the rock this weekend? I’m 57 years old and an ex-fullback from the dinosaur age, but I’m available.

I’m not overly concerned since New Mexico State ranks 111th in the country in rush defense, giving up an average of 214.4 yards per game on the ground. I could run on these guys.

Against the eight teams presently comprising the WAC, UGA is 5-0 all-time, with three of those victories coming against the Aggies. Georgia played New Mexico State in 1995, 2000, and 2002, winning by a combined 118-23 margin.

They do have quite a passing attack however our secondary should be up to the task, especially seeing as how they most likely have not seen a defensive front as large as ours. Time in the pocket will be limited to say the least. No need to discuss the deer-in-the-headlights look they will have facing the largest offensive line in all of football.

Who will carry the rock? Does it matter? This game should be ugly but won’t be as bad as it should.

For you Tide Roll:

There is one thing that brings even more fear to the Crimson Tide faithful than a 24-point lead at home over Auburn—the NCAA.

The Death Penalty is openly discussed as a possibility for “flagrant and willful” violators.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions released a statement last year calling the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa the following:

A “serial repeat violator,” with an “abysmal infractions track record” and an “extensive recent history of infractions cases unmatched by any other member institution in the NCAA.”

Wow. Back on top again after all these years.

I will leave the silly comments to you…..here are the facts:

This is the school’s most recent major NCAA rules violation. It has landed the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa (UAT) a three-year probation that will last through June 10, 2012, their second major NCAA violation in less than 10 years.

Unmatched by any other member institution in the NCAA……..
