Video: Tailbacks, suspensions, character issues and now who totes the rock?

I answer the questions of CineSport’s Noah Coslov about Georgia’s tailback situation heading into Saturday’s home game against New Mexico State. Coslov by the way, is getting married this weekend, so feel free to include your well wishes to him among the comments. Congratulations, Noah. . . .

Ga is one of the toughest schools with the drug testing policies. I hope these players have learned their lessons. People do make mistakes. Hell! I guarantee that half the people on this blog could not pass a drug test.lol

I do not understand the problem. The kid smokes dope. He is suspended. What else can Richt do? THe kid has a big ego and not mature enough yet to handle things. Maybe this will get him on the right track.

A lot of people don’t realize this. One of the reasons Crowell is not playing as hard as he should be is UGA’s failure to follow through on a promise to him that HAIRY DAWG would be replaced by SNOOP DOGGY DOG. Has anyone else heard about this?

LOL .. I think we are already way past that point dude.

Anyway, I still say we do a moratorium on all “Thomas Brown” related activities. We don’t reply, we don’t mention the name unless talking about the REAL Thomas Brown, we just pretend that waste of type isn’t even showing up on our screen. I mean, you get the same amount of value out of it either way .. nothing.

You may be right (or not) ugab, but I do feel as though half the people on this blog could poor p%ss out of a boot (which I question Crowell’s ability to do) I also feel that (perhaps) they may not be self-serving nuts who would jaw after a decent run, but “cry and go home” after a good lick! Don’t get me wrong, and I know the SEC is tough, but my sister could take some of the licks Crowell has taken and go back in! He can redeem himself: follow the rules, quit showboating when you damn-surely ain’t earned the right, and support your ass-bustin’ teamates who don’t run (I mean haul-ass) to the sidelines after a little contact. Character issues, plain and simple. Freshman/young-man mistakes are one thing; consistant screwing up are symptomatic of greater issues………

Weed to a high % of the HS and teen/college kids do smoke it. With a huge % of the pop. it is a cultural issue as well. Smoking weed is simply not considered any big deal.

I do not agree ……………it IS illegal and when punks do it …………they pay.

You teach your boys the difference between right and wrong, and then you discipline them when the choose to do wrong. All 18-22 year old young men are going to make poor choices. Having a lack of team discipline would be not having punishment for those wrong choices. UGA’s problem right now is that they are making poor choice when recruting players with suspect character. Those players come in and their actions are not tolerated then it makes news and they are eventually dismissed from the team.

UGA has two choices if they want this cycle to stop. Not bring these character issues to light by not punishing them (like most teams) or recruit players with better character and maybe less skill.

Memo To Thomas Brown: (a.k.a. Georgia Tech fan)

Take a chill pill, pal. He who lives in glass houses should not throw stones.

FWIW – I’m concerned about Crowell’s prima-donna tendencies, however I must constantly remind myself he’s a freshman carrying a ton of pressure on his shoulders. It’s also far too early to render any conclusions about Crowell. We’ll just have to see how this story plays out.

Who suspected the character of these recruits. Crowell was looked at and pursued by everyone. The same ones complaining about Richt and control are the same ones wanting Muschamp. How’s that working at Florida. They got 2 kids aressted the first week of the season but he only suspended the backup. Got another kid who punched an AL player but never saw a suspension. Got another player that attacked an ex-AL player after the game no suspension what so ever. I think they won the Fulmer cup. Thomas Brown exactly who do you want that’s better?

The strict drug screening policy is a result of the lax recruiting policy.

Can’t we all just pretend that none of this ever happened? If everyone would just STFU, then nobody else will know what’s going on in Athens. If you can’t deal with bad news, then you’re just a troll. True Dawg Fans support Mark Richt – no matter what. He is a man of God. I know it’s true, because he said so.

Anytime illegal drugs or underage drinking are reported on a college campus, the issue immediately falls under the jurisdiction of the university and local law enforcement.

It’s a cultural issue, of course, and an issue in the subculture called major college football. It’s not just UGA overlooking problems in the student athletes they recruit; it would be hard to name a program that does not do much the same thing, other than perhaps Stanford.

However, it does seem fairly evident that some of the problems at UGA can, and should, be placed at the feet of the football program’s CEO, Mr. Mark Richt.

There have been far too many signs of a lack of discipline in the UGA football program under Mr. Richt, and far too much tolerance for behavior, and norms more appropriate to a low socioeconomic subculture than a college campus.

Rap music on the sidelines instead of Glory Glory to Old Georgia! Chest thumping for a minimally good effort on a single play in the midst of a losing effort. Arrests galore. The list goes on and on.

Will Crowell make it at Georgia? How many “last chances” will he be given? Is there some understanding that he has violated the terms of his contract with the University?

I’m not personally a huge fan of the Crowell kid as a running back, but I think it fair to mention that he was thrust into a role which might have been more than he was ready to handle, given his background, and level of maturity.

That does not excuse his behavior.

My guess is this kid is not going to make it at Georgia. He makes too many mistakes, and doesn’t seem to learn from them. Besides that, he seems a good bit too much a “me first” player, and not as talented as he seems to think he is.

Why’s everybody of Thomas Brown’s case? Mr. Brown makes a lot of good points sometimes. Yeah, he’s long winded, not always a good writer, and highly opinionated, but so what? Don’t read his stuff…Problem solved.

Go, Georgia Bulldogs.

it would be one thing if this were an isolated event. seems like there is a constant stream of this kind of crap coming out of athens. these kids have lost respect for the current leadership. all schools have isolated issues come up, after all were talking about 18-20 year olds.but this garbage is happening WAY too often in athens for my liking.

Mr. Crowell, Malcome and Thomas:

You immature self centered prima donnas have brought embarrassment to my great University. If I ran the program, you all would be former Georgia Bulldogs. The University is so much more than your football talents. UGA was here 226 years before you arrived and 226 years from now, you will be a very minor part of our great history. UGA provides you with the opportunity to pursue your dreams. Is it too much to ask for you to stay within the bounds of what is legal? CMR loves you, I don’t.

Regardless of whose fault it is…..we are without proven running backs this weekend…..which is going to put more pressure on our already inconsistant quarterback. Say what you will about Crowell,(and I agree he needs to toughen up, get his act together, and keep his helmet on)but he takes a lot of pressure off the passing game, which has been spotty at best this season. Is this the game where Murray finds his accuracy? Or is this the game where Hutson Mason shows he deserves more playing time? I hope the former, but can’t say that I am not intrigued about the latter……And whatever happened to Orson Charles? Do we see him this weekend? Any thoughts?

Look guys especially you auburn fan. At most any other school in the country (including auburn) this would be a non-issue and would not even be a story. It wouldn’t be a story for the simple fact that they don’t even suspend their players for failing the 1st drug test. Not only would they not be suspended they would be playing in the game this saturday. Just because georgia chooses to suspend their players on the 1st failed drug test and we always make suspensions public knowledge we get criticized for being nondisciplined? That’s sounds a little hypocritical to me… especially coming from an auburn fan. I mean who’s to say that players at Auburn haven’t failed drug tests? You will never hear it because they don’t suspend their players for the 1st failed test. Coach Richt and georgia hold their players to higher standards than pretty much any other institution in the country and he catches heat for it. I don’t get it.
