@Georgie – Take a look at the disparity in disciplinary policies and standards among D1 football programs. Simply put, this isn’t even in the news at every school in the Big 10, plus 50+% of the rest of D1. Why? Because UGA continues to have the harshest penalties for drug and alcohol related offenses of any school in the country.

That doesn’t make UGA a joke. It makes those that criticize UGA for holding their athletes to a substantially higher standard the joke.

Matthew Stafford is the lone reason why New Mexico continues to be a State. One time, he was in Civics at UGA and was asked why he thought New Mexico should be a state, he responded ‘because I said so’. And so it was. For a celebration he took the entire civics class (65 people) to Amicis in Athens for some buffalo chicken garcheemar, which by all accounts was delicious.

At least now we understand why Crowell had to come out of games so frequently. It wasn’t for water breaks, it was for snack breaks. Trying to play football with a severe case of the munchies must be tough.

If we can get the running backs clean and sober, maybe they will finally live up to expectations on the field.

I’m happy for the chance Harton and Karempelis will get this weekend. I hope the UGA fans will support them, and cheer for them, like they are the second coming of Herschel Walker. Obviously, they are the guys who are working hard and doing the best they can for the program. They deserve our respect for that.

Richt is telling the truth. It takes anywhere from 24-36 hours to receive results from a drug test. By that time, they were already suited up in Jacksonville warming up with no chance to receive news about the failed drug test. Richt haters are just mad we’re 6-2 after a 6-7 season last year. All I can say to them is HAHAHAHAHA. Richt is still gonna be here and I happy for that.

Drug policies are obtained through public records requests or from the school’s official website.

Very interesting how this just happens to come to light after the big football game this past weekend. Mr. Richt seems like a good guy, I personally have always liked him, only thing is he is to soft on his players. I think the game this weekend with or without the suspensed players is going to be an easy win. Let’s look ahead to the Auburn game and keep focused.

Well, based on your reasoning, Steve Spurrier should be questioned for recruiting Garcia. Reality is nobody really knows for sure how a young man will turn out. I think UGA has done a pretty good job trying to shy away from kids that they feel are going to be a problem. Likewise, they have gotton rid of some that, even though they had talent, failed to behave or make the grades. It’s so easy to pass judgement on what you would do, but coaching this many young kids has got to be a challenge. Perhaps, those that just love to criticize, were indeed saints, and made dean’s list, and never did anything wrong as a teen. Truth be known, most of the ones that are so critical, have never accomplished anything and probably never will.

The story is believeable. I happen to work in the medical field (Emergency Room). You can get a stat drug test back within an hour. However this is very expensive to do this way. Normal drug testing is sent to a outside lab and results are back in 2-3 days. The article says it was repeated by another lab to verify results and this could also take a couple of days. So if test was actually performed on Thursday the timeline is very believable. All the doubters need to get a life. I personally am for the 3 strike rule though and if Crowell screws up again, do not care how good he is, pack his bags for him. My donations and tax dollars are giving him a chance for a free education. All he has to do is keep his head straight and play a game. I would have given certain parts of my body for the same opportunity that these young men are being given.

Hairy Grandmother so Richt tested his running backs before what was probably the biggest game of his life and when they failed said test he covered it up until after the game. Wow, you really are a loon aren’t you. First off, what kind of idiot would have his players tested randomly or not, two days before such a big game? There’s not a single coach out there from high school to the pro’s that stupid. On the other hand, if the testing was done by someone from outside the school and the player’s tested posivitive for some drugs, wouldn’t you think that it would be up to them to report the results to the school?

Kids are getting crucified for what easily got by in the ’70’s when the legal age was eighteen! (Any bulldogs out there remember seagraves?) That being said, besides mistakes that young men make, Crowell seems to have other issues as well. Doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of regard for anyone except himself. This is just a temporary launching pad to the NFL in his mind. However, if he doesn’t quit layin’ down everytime he gets hit he will never make it! I have a question. Who is going to run the ball this weekend? I no absolutely nothing about any of the runners we have left. Shoot, I thought that was our only 4 half backs that we had. I suppose that it will be run the FB’s up the middle and Murray will run the end runs, with Smith and Boykin running an occasional reverse. I got an idea. Sense Murray is a much better runner than passer, start him at TB and give Mason a shot at QB.

Spaceman Spiff…………..not true as well. Probation Officers do a drug test and know the results 5 minutes after you zip up. There are different Dipsticks that test for illegal drugs. If the samples is positive it is then sent to a lab to check the LEVEL of drugs. UGA and RICHT could have known the players were using before the UF game and then sent the failed tests to the lab for detailed confirmation.

Please stop blaming the coaches for these kids getting in trouble. Blame the coaches if they ignore the infractions or try to cover them up but they are in no way responsible. This is a reflection of these kids decision making and values. The flawless and feared Nick Saban recruited Crowell too and chances are Crowell would have smoked weed at Bama as well. Maybe blame the coaches for a lot of other things but not for how a kid behaves.

GT/UGA Dad………….as I said if the test were done on site then all the samples would not have gone to the lab. Why pay for tests that are not needed if the Dipstick Test shows CLEAN from the start?
I understand the time and chain of custody on a sample if said sample is a Failed form the dipstick. We had heard all of the blogs on Friday that Crowell had Failed a Drug Test. To me that means the Dipsticks were used or the lab had the results already.

Tech folks don’t care about all that. They hate us with every ounce of their soul and just live for something like this. They stay in a lot of trouble themselves, and when in their little nerd mind think those hillbilly’s in Athens have messed up, they pounce. I seem to remember that about half of the UGA posters took up for them on their last little dust up with the NCAA. don’t ever expect that in return.

Still@ – tell me anyone who would make a preliminary decision to hold out a player on the results of a screening test that is known NOT to be 100% accurate. It is not even for certain that a screening test was done initially.

No AD or coach is going to punish a player immediately for something that may be proven wrong.

Half the problem today is people insisting on calling deliberate acts of misconduct, mistakes. There is no such thing as a deliberate mistake. They knew what they were doing and they have let down their team mates, their school, their parents, the fans that support them, the tax payers and maybe worst of all, themselves. I would put all three on a very short leash and let them know, that the next time is the last time, you will be associated with UGA. Yes, the team might suffer, but the remaining members of the team, would still fight hard to win, still be part of a future team, that could still be good, and at the same time, be free of three headaches. It should be grow up or say goodbye to these three players.
I feel fully confident that CMR did not know about this before the Florida game. Even his most vocal critics on these blogs, will have to admit, he has and will always be honest.

The rumor mills were spinning last week on failed drug tests.

So either Richt delayed the suspensions, OR he ordered a “retest” just to “confirm” the results, knowing that a retest would buy him a few more days.

Kinda like getting a paternity test which is 99.9999995% accurate, and then asking for a retest to delay the child support hearing…

I liked what Richt said and I believe him. He could have saved a lot of wild speculation if he had addressed this at yesterday’s pressor. Always better to get in front of something than to let if fester without any real facts. Perhaps he didn’t have the official results until after the pressor. The reason it takes as much time as it did is because any positive result must be independently verified by an outside lab, the same way that it is with most employers…You need confirmation before you punish someone, because of issues legal and otherwise. Pretty standard stuff, regardless of the venue; you CYA legally, and then take if from there…

To the people who say you can get a drug test result in five minutes, that is only if your Mama called you up from the basement and handed you the cup. The universities do not do any of the actual testing procedure, other than collecting the urine. Those samples are then placed in a sealed container to be picked up the testing laboratory. The samples are delivered to the laboratory and placed in line for testing. The testing is then done on the samples and if any positives show up, that sample is retested to ensure it is not a false positive. At that point the results go to the transcriptionist to be typed and delivered to the university. That is not done in five minutes, it is not done in two days, it takes as long as it takes, usually 7 to 10 business, not weekend, business days. If the test was done last Thursday I am surprised they got the results back as quickly as they did. As to the rumors circulating around, probably one of the mental midgets that indulged told somebody he thought was his friend that he probably just failed a drug test, from there to Twitter or Facebook in a matter of minutes, and the urine has even left the university yet. Our talking head bobblehead 790 the Zone Mayhem in the a.m. hosts, all bald, transplanted Yankees by the way, then pick up the hue and cry because they “heard rumors” of a failed drug test and will not be satisfied with anything less than a lie detector test and Congressional committee to determine whether or not McGarrity and Richt are telling them the truth. Other universities do not have the problem with out-of-town, no-skin-in-the-game idiots covering their universities and are given the benefit of the doubt. Our group of know-it-all jerks salivate at the thought of something being wrong at the University of Georgia. Quite frankly, I hope they take Dimino off both the Georgia postgame show and off the Falcons beat. Not only is he a jerk, his monotone voice is enough to put you to sleep. Anyone who watched their Georgia postgame show after the Florida game will understand. He spent all his time telling Will Muschamp what an idiot he was to lose the game, with little time left to address Georgia winning the game. Georgia is not perfect, but it does not have to prove anything to the bunch of losers on the radio and the idiots that post on these blogs.

It’s beyond hilarious to watch GA internet fans defend their coach’s morality. If this were ANY other program that had done this the week they were playing GA the entire internet would be lit up with their protests and condemnations of the offending coach and team. There is no fanbase on the earth that is quicker to pull the blame trigger than UGA. AND I’m a GA fan, just not a fan of GA fans b/c they consistently embarrass us defending UGA while tearing other programs apart.

There is no doubt in my mind that UGA played fast and loose with these results, but my ethical outrage is tempered by the fact that UGA is one of only 2 SEC teams that even have a punishment for a first drug offense. My opinion though is that UGA should have the toughest penalty after the off field embarrasments from the last several years. Either way, Richt carrying around his torch of “love them and they will get better” is seriously scary. It’s like a cult leader. I’m not on the fire Richt bandwagon (yet) but hopefully someone is making sure they aren’t all buying white Nikes and building bunk beds in Butts Meier.

Oh, I said many times in here, I gave up my season tickets some years ago. Raising 3 kids, very demanding business, and living 5 hours away. I go to which games I can, 2-3 a year. I used to go to more, but I go when I can now. I don’t know, hundred, hundred and a half at this point? Not sure. Always AU game if it’s Athens.

From what I read Mettenberger also exposed her breast. If it had been one of my daughters nothing short of jail time would have been enough punishment. Mettenberger should be a convicted sex offender. He was very lucky the girls father was not me. As many daughters as CMR has there was mo way he was going to be able to stay at Georgia . It seems to me that the WRONG people are upset and mad.

It is UGA fans who should be the most irritated with this latest example of undisciplined and unfocused behavior.

The administration surely felt that they were pretty safe in administering the test during the stretch prior to the UGA-UF game when surely the players would be the most focused and on their best behavior. But alas even that was not enough.

Not even the death match of UGA-UF could deter the players from smoking dope and risking suspensions? What are you going to do when smoking dope is more important to them than the games or even football in general?

And we wonder why our teams seldom play up to the intensity with which the fans want them to? It just isn’t that important to them.

yes Roget Dinasaur- It is very common fact that the cannibas plant was planted, and cannibas oil was rubbed onto his grave. I really think CMR is telling the truth. I don’t care for him as a coach but I think he is a truthful man.
As far as Larry, Moe and Curly-How stupid and undisciplined?? The University System is paying for their educations and they are going to screw that up doing whatever they did!! They knew it was wrong but they did it anyway. Again goes back to recruiting players who are undisciplined (but great athletes) who when given a decision to make don’t know wrong from right. This is an all to common issue with UGA recruits!!! I say let’s recruit “lesser athletes” who are coachable and actually have some sense.

Everyone saying our program is a joke remember this what comes around goes around and worry about your own program that is perfect bc just when you think everything is perfect the bottom will fall out see USC and Ohio State. Some of you must do no wrong well good for you but remember most young men think they are bullet proof especially athletes and i know tech fans might not understand what i mean by feeling bullet proof. Guys 18-24 do not think they will get caught and most think nothing can stop them in fact most young guys are like this unti about 30. Thats the way guys are. I hope they learn from this and i hope Kyle takes someone’s playing time he has the heart and the talent he lacks size but i bet he does not worry to much about that. I saw Kyle in the Ga dome against Ealey’s team in the high school playoffs Kyle was younger and Ealey was committed to us and Kyle straight up out played Ealey in every facet of the game. He hustles and has the heart of godzilla. Check out his highlight tape. If all of UGA players played had the heart of a walk on we would never lose bc walk ons are a different breed they love their school and the sport they play so much that they get up and lift at 5:00 am go to class go to meetings go to practice for four yrs and some never even get a sniff of game time but they f-ing love the game they play. This kid will give everything he has and more so will the other guy that use to be a walk on. These guys will run through walls for the coach. I would love for one of these guys to take Ken Malcom’s place on the depth chart bc he certainly does not deserve it. Leaves and then comes back has a great opportunity for playing time this weekend but blew it what a f-ing moron. He does not deserve a scholarship make him a walk on and i promise you he would leave.

Some of you say they should be kick off the team or suspended for the yr or miss the bowl game when your school probably does not even make them miss a game and never mentions this stuff to the news. I played for coach Johnson at GSU and i know his testing policy and trust me he does not give a crap about this and you do not miss a game it has to be a problem for him to care about like continuously failing drug test or it being obvious that you are on something. Some say why is it random if it was not random and the whole team had to be tested and every program had to be tested there would be no college football 20-60% of players would fail the drug test and oh by the way most football players are addicted to prescription pain pills too. They are easy to get in college when you play they practically give them out. Dont believe me ask someone who played in the NFL. Most NFL players i know cant get out of bed without an opiate pain killer. Look up the story on the Tennessee QB from a few yrs back i cant remember which one it might have been Ainge or that Compton guy or Crompton something like that anyway whichever one it was says it does not even remember the games he played at Tenn. He could get painkillers from the team doctor once he quit giving them to him cause he was getting obvious he got them from alumni the cops caught him one night instead of arresting him and making a big deal about it they put him in rehab google it you will find out. These kids on your team are no different. What comes around goes around. I never point the finger found that out along time ago. It is just bad Karma.

I have had season tickets since 97 but I do know that what I have as an opinion will never be listened to by any one at the athletic dept positive or negative just like any business all they see is green and all they hear is money jingle!

No flat tire, I am a typical proud supporter of the University of Georgia, trying to see the bigger picture than a score from a ball game 2 or 3 weeks ago, with a vested interest well beyond what you pay your uncle for a couple of his tickets every year. You are nothing more than a typical consumer.

I don’t know anybody (when I was younger) that didn’t try harder drugs after starting with Dope. I didn’t try dope until I was 21 and I stopped(26) when I got a Job that drug tested.
