Georgia’s Jarvis Jones says he’s not considering an early exit for NFL

ATHENS – The Georgia Bulldogs received a lot of accolades following Saturday’s 24-20 win over Florida. Weekly awards and national recognition have been rolling in for individual player performances in the the game.

But probably the biggest treat as far news for Bulldogs fans is Jarvis Jones’ assurance on Monday that he plans on hanging in college for a good while longer.

Jones, who was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, for his performance against the Gators, met with UGA beat reporters early Monday afternoon to discuss that and his recent nomination as a Butkus Award semifinalists. The Butkus annually goes to the player deemed to be the nation’s best linebacker.

As a redshirt sophomore — he sat out one season after transferring to Georgia from Southern Cal — Jones (6-foot-3, 241 pounds) is eligible to enter the 2012 NFL Draft. As was inevitable with the season he’s having, Jones was asked he was considering that option.

“Not at all,” he said without a moment’s hesitation. “I’m going to be here as long as I can. I mean, I love the university, I love the guys here, I love being in Athens. Most of all, school’s going to come first. And I love my coaches, too. Right now I don’t feel like I’m ready to play in the NFL anyway. I’ve still got a lot to learn.”

Jones looked pretty well-versed against the Gators this past Saturday. The outside linebacker and pass-rushing specialists recorded four sacks — the second-most in a single game in school history — five tackles overall and forced a fumble that Georgia recovered and led to an eventual touchdown.

In addition to the SEC award, which he shared with Arkansas’ Jerry Franklin, Jones’ performance also reaped him the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week, the Rivals.com SEC Player of the Week and the College Football Performance Awards National Player of the Week honors.

“It’s been great,” Jones said. “I think I’ve dealt with it well. It was a big game and I expect it was for the rest of the guys around me. It was Florida and we hadn’t beaten them since ‘07. So we’re proud and walking around with our heads held high right now. But we’ve got to keep pushing and getting better every week.”

Jones now leads the SEC with eight sacks in eight games and is ranked fifth nationally. He helped anchor a defense that held the Gators to minus 19 yards rushing and a single offensive touchdown. In fact, Georgia’s defense has allowed just six touchdowns in the past 24 quarters.

Here’s a few other news and notes stemming from the Bulldogs’ victory in Jacksonville:

  • Georgia senior left tackle Cordy Glenn was named the SEC’s Offensive Lineman of the Week. The 6-5, 348-pound native of Riverdale graded out at a team-best 82 percent with three “intimidation” blocks while starting his 41st consecutive game for the Bulldogs. A captain for the third straight contest, Glenn was a part of an offense that racked up 185 yards on the ground and 354 total yards as the Bulldogs have now scored 20 or more points in every game this season. Glenn also helped give quarterback Aaron Murray time to direct a comeback from a 17-3 early deficit. Georgia finished 3-for-3 on fourth down conversions in the game, scoring touchdowns on a pair of them.
  • Also on Monday, senior cornerback Brandon Boykin was included among 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the top defensive back in college football. The SEC has seven semifinalists on the list claimed the last two winners of the award (Eric Berry, Tennessee, 2009; Patrick Peterson, LSU, 2010). Georgia has never had a Thorpe winner. The award is named after history’s greatest all-around athlete, Jim Thorpe. Thorpe excelled as a running back, passer and kicker on the offensive side of the ball, but also stood out as a defensive back. A native of Fayetteville, Boykin has started in 32 career games, including the last 16 for the Bulldogs. For the year, he has recorded 31 tackles and his seven pass break-ups, 5.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions are all second on the team. Boykin has also totaled two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble this year, is the SEC’s active leader and fourth in conference history with 2,393 kickoff return yards (24.42 average) and has returned four punts for 43 yards this season.
  • CBS is now considering the Georgia-Auburn game for its national broadcast on Nov. 12.  The SEC’s primary television rights holder exercised its six-day option on Monday, meaning and it will wait until Sunday to decide what games it wants to televise the next weekend. CBS will choose between Georgia’s home game and Alabama at Mississippi State, Florida at South Carolina and Tennessee at Arkansas. The game could also be played on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. or ESPN at 7:45 p.m.

As great as Jarvis Jones played Saturday, Boykin’s performance was equally critical to the win. He caught a superfast gator from behind early in the game to prevent one touchdown, and later had a diving pass breakup in the endzone to prevent another. In between, he made a lot of other good plays.

@The facts, just the facts If you don’t like it, go cheer for your second rate Big Ten or ACC football program. Every team has players that get in trouble. Why? Because their students and of the same age and maturity of all the others in undergraduate programs. Have you done your research to proove that UGA has the highest number of drunks on campus? Is it highest number total or per capita? Yes, UGA is normally in the top three of party schools, but I’d love to see where you’re pulling these very specifc facts from concerning the number of drunks on campus. My guess is that you’re just an angry northerner. Go home. You haven’t figured out how to drive yet, anyway. Let’s not get into your ignorance as there isn’t enoug room in this little box. Is UGA the perfect school? No, of course not. However, when we make accusations against schools or teams we don’t like, they’re based on facts, not some ignorant a**hole who just likes to whine and b*tch.

CTG has got the defense barking! CMB & CMR made some great play calls at times. The fact that Ga has no special teams coach is showing up week after week. Murray is a great qb, but by my count he has blown 5 td passes in the last 2 games. With all that said, the Dawgs are turnng this season into a special one. The defense does resemble Van Gorders, but they are faster! georgia87

Just the facts can’t even get the facts right.

1. Georgia athletes rate much higher on the Academic Progress scale tracked by the NCAA than does the athletes at Tech. Georgia Football is second only to Vanderbilt in the SEC by one point at 976, 10 points ahead of Tech. Tech’s Basketball program was docked a scholarship for falling below the APR. Graduation rates for athletes at Tech were 11th in the ACC while Georgia ranked fifth in the SEC, four percentage points ahead of Tech.

2. Tech has had three Rhodes Scholars in its illustrious academic history. Georgia has had 21.

3. I’ll compare the arrest records for drunkenness on Saturday night of Athens to Atlanta any time.

4. You can have a party without being an idiot. Just for your information.

People get off the whole no special teams coach thing. 90% of all D-1 teams do not have a special teams coach. The NCAA only allows you to have 10 coaches on staff. You can not even have a volunteer coach or one that is a part timer. As with most schools the coaches split the special teams duties. What needs to change with the special teams is put some of the starters on special teams.

Remember when Richt encouraged the players to run on the field after UGA’s forst TD against Florida? (Don’t know why I asked because everyone recalls it.) After that event, whether you were for it or against it, you have to acknowledge that it infused the team with an energy that had been lacking.

I bring it up because, as an outside observer, (and I don’t mean this at all as a slap against Blair Walsh) I fully believe that the Bulldogs will take a similar energy from Richt’s decision not to kick field goals in J’ville. The rest of the way, I expect to see Georgia play much more confidentally, and as a result, even better than it has at any time during this winning streak.

That Jones kid is somethin’ else, too.

That’s great new from Jarvis. He has a chance to be something special along the lines of Pollack. Duirng his reign Richt’s teams have had a tendency to finish strong particlarly in the last three or four games. I would venture to guess that getting over the Florida hump would really pump some confidence and swagger into the team. It’s going to be hard not to fall asleep agains NM State. Hopfully the Bulldogs will have some pent up energy that will help them put the game away early and give the younger guys some more game experience for the stretch. This is a nice relief from the days of playing Florida and Auburn in back to back games all these years past.

Why would anyone call Florida a cup cake. UF is a class act team and played one heck of a ball game. UGA played them 4 quarters and won. This is the same Florida team that was toe to toe with Alabama before Brantley was hurt. Well he is back now and it showed. UGA still has issues on special teams but the defense is strong and the offense can score when called on to produce. This UGA team could easily upset LSU or Alabama. UGA had AU last year by 24 points but did not play the second half. This will not happen in 2011 look for the Dawgs to put together a complete game and be a spoiler.

A delapidated old stadium, only filled when opponents bring fans, in the midst of hell. Foreign students who don’t know a football from a baseball bat. Yes, you have a great school to compare to all of the real college campuses. I would be jealous too. You cannot tailgate there for fear of your life so there will be limited trash generated by the 23,000 who drive in at game time and leave immediately afterward. Have you ever been to a real big time football game? If you weren’t such a loser you might visit other campuses to compare. THWT

And the three losses were without their senior QB, with one each to LSU and UA, #1 and #2. UF has a very good team, and you should be proud of the victory and the team. Also, Murray has put up impressive performances with plenty of points to win against many highly ranked teams, like #1 last year. It wasn’t his fault we lost. I think that your whole thesis is very misleading. You make some good points, but that one in particular isn’t valid. Just ask most fans if they would trade their QB for Murray. The Bulldawgs are better for one reason… They have a real DC from the pros and runs a superior 3-4 defense. The 3-4 is not run by most college teams because they can’t get the 3 most important pieces. The Nosegauard and two outside linebackers. The Bulldawgs can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. The Special Teams can be fixed fairly easy. At seasons end contact Joe De-Cammila from the pros and make him an offer he can’t refuse. It’s not the players it’s bad coaching. Apparently the dogs don’t have a guy or guys that understand special teams. It has been a problem since Richt got here. Please Richt, pick up the phone and call Mike Smith, get Morten Andersons phone number and call him. Offer him a consulting fee to come help out your kicker. The Falcons did it and their kicker has hit 27 in a row. Hire a OL coach from the pros which will help in recruiting because recruits understand that he knows what it takes to become a pro. Why do you think Saban has surrounded himself with pro coaches? Uga is second only to Texas in yearly football revenue and is valued as a football program more than any school except Texas. It’s time to rise up and become the Team we were headed towards when BVG was allowed to walk. That mistake cost The UGA Aapproximately $100,000.00 in lost revenue. Please hire only proven coaches. UAB Coach with your job on the line!!!!!! Damm Richt you are smarter than that. Get rid of Lilly to make room for our new Special Teams Coach. He is the last Florida State Coach that has no ideal about fundamental football. Not one Bobby Bowden coach has been worth a damm. He could only win by superior talent.

The coverage of the game left out 1 MAJOR fact….the special teams were not just “poor” as the AJC stated, they were reprehensible…totally incompetent. Going into the season I said the Georgia special teams were the best in the country…man, was I wrong. They managed to leave or give 16 points due to missed FG, and returns…UNBELIEVABLE. With the $$$ the Dawgs have is there any reason NOT to have a special teams coach..JUST UNBELIEVABLE…..oh, on a side note…why can’t we just kick off into the end zone…Just a thot..

If it wasn’t for the defense we lose..again…I think Walsh needs a sports psychologist..He is still a great kicker ( even tho he hasn’t shown it)…It’s just between the ears now.

I said after the first two games we wud run the table..If we can get the special teams to play like they shud we will run the table.

Jarvis has been good since day one of this season. It’s about time he got his due. On another note I won’t be able to watch this Saturday’s game. I don’t get CSS or whatever network that is going to broadcast it. Has anyone heard if it’s going to be on ESPN 3? Their site only lists college football but not the name of the teams at that time slot at this time.

@Thomas Brown — has AM been inconsistent? At times. He’s also made some great plays, but let me fill you in on something — football is played 11 on 11. Ooh look at me. I’ll go to the Tech message boards and pretend to be Tech fan and write something clever like Tech beat a Clemson team with a terrible defense (How many did UNC and Maryland put put on them? — oh yeah 38 and 45). And Tech only scored 31??? All is lost. Paul Johnson is a terrible coach. And I’ll end it with something clever like “ramble on!!”

If we are to dismiss all of the dogs 6 wins because of who they played, then lets dismiss all of tech’s except for Clemson. Now, let’s dismiss the win over Clemson because of the 2 defeats to Lowly Virginia and Miami. The point is, Uga played a good Florida team, their nemisis, and won. Murray had to make 2 exceptional passes to Bennet and King to have this happen. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the gators beat South Carolina. Maybe if the dogs win out, some of you haters will stop your whining.

to Still@ the Bar – I usually ignore your kind b/c eventually you will go away – but I have to respond to your post about AM not making good passes – this hust shows that you know nothing about football – the play called for AM to pass behind the receive on both plays – the rec knows this the cb does not – so #1 it takes a spot on throw by the qb and perfect timing by the receiver – that is how football is played

Very proud of the Dawgs on Sat. It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but it was a win nonetheless. This team did not quit despite being down by 14 pts. That is a great sign of what is to come for this team, they have a lot of heart and do not get rattled when losing. If the offense can get going and the special teams work out the kinks, then I feel confident that they can stay on the field with any team in the country. I am happy that Jones plans to stay at UGA his final year. He is a DGD and we are lucky to have him. GO DAWGS!

This is some of the best news I’ve read in the past three years about UGA Football. Jarvis Jones is true to his school. He’s a true blue Dawg. So is Richard Samuel. This development is significant. This is evolution from the ignorant dumb inner city gangsta types who just wanted to hang in long enough to qualify for NFL. JJ and RS want diplomas! They love Athens and the Bulldog Nation. This could get infectious! Hope so…

I’m thrilled that the Jacksonville demons may have been exorcised last Saturday against a lousy UF team. We won, but it was ugly–because of poor coaching mainly, but also poor execution. Grantham and the defense is becoming spectacular. The win in Jacksonville should not make Richt’s Penny Stock increase at all. Nor Bobo’s. Richt could resign tomorrow, we could make Grantham the acting coach, and we would be much better all around–including recruiting. Kids want to join a winning football program, not a missionary outfit.

Our next challenge is Auburn which plays smashmouth football. South Carolina will lose a SEC game this year. If we can get past Auburn, we will be playing in the Georgia Dome again this year!

BE CAREFUL. This is the easiest schedule UGA has ever had. Even a trip to Atlanta should in no way save Richt and Bobo. They gotta go.

But… GO DAWGS!

Since AM beat another team with a winning record, now 2-9 or whatever, how long do we have to be reminded of this record?

Or how many victories does UGA have to run off to stop being reminded of the past 22 years?

Talk about UGA fans living in the past? Haters and losers live in the past. The players and coaches get paid to have a short term memory and right now this team is 6-2 and can make some noise the rest of this year.

Some of you need to put your big boy pants on and accept the fact that you haters of CMR did not get your wish. No Mullen, no Petersen so all your rants and supposed inside information was a bunch of bullcrap.

“Back from the dead: Good luck in finding anybody outside the players and coaches on Georgia’s football team who didn’t think the Bulldogs were dead after those back-to-back losses to open the season. The only buzz surrounding the team following the 45-42 loss to South Carolina on Sept. 10 centered on coach Mark Richt and whether or not he was going to make it. Well, with two games to play in the SEC, the Bulldogs are alive and well in the East race and have won six straight games. There’s a mental toughness about this team that wasn’t there the past couple of seasons.”

This was posted in a Halloween themed write-up on ESPN. This was the excerpt about the change we have had this year. I particularly love the part at the end about this year’s team having a different mental toughness and comraderie. Glad to know many more than just myself are seeeing this truth…and it’s finally showing on the field. Go Dawgs!

Our special teams fiascoes are plain and simple coaching. When Fabris was there we sucked. When Belin arrived from Vandy we go from like last to first is kick off coverage. Now that he leaves for the pros we majorly suck again. The numbers don’t lie. Time to give up one of the other position coaches for a top notch special teams coach. As badly as I feel for Blair, Bogotay deserves as shot at field goals, enough is enough. I am grateful for the win against FL and will take it any way we can get it. Let’s run out the season men.

Why do so called “fans” get on these blogs and bemoan the fact that UGA is 6-2? Would you have rather lost the last 6 games and be 0-8? What more do you want? They very easily could have and should have beaten South Carolina but did not. Okay…so they just went out and won the next 6. Is that a problem? I mean, is that not what every Dawg fan wanted? Did they look great doing it? Not all the time. Could they help the fact that each of those teams is having the year that they are? NO! Were they perfect in each of their wins? NO! But, as any championship team can tell you, it takes some luck along the way. Do I think UGA is a championship team at this point? Who knows. Defensively–possibly. Offensively–doubtful. But how does the old saying go, Defense wins championships! Okay, be thankful for where they are right now because there is a lot of football to be played and anything can happen. GO DAWGS!!!!!

The D loses Brandon Boykin and DeAngelo Tyson, both hard working give it all players, that will hurt. But everyone else back plus the redshirts and a couple newcomers defense should be really really good next year.

Offense will miss the 3 starters on O Line, Figgins and depending on what Charles does. Otherwise receivers, 2 4 or 5 star RB’s coming and a couple O-Lineman capable of backup Dawgs gonna be hard to beat next year.

Course we still got chance for some freat wins left this year also. Future bright for the Dawgs!

1- players have overcome much….(bad coaching, stupid examples of conduct, terrible play calling)… good for them
2- special teams leaves alot to be desired
3- kicking — (see number two)
4- defense — pretty good
5- offensive line — starting to improve
6- Samuels — where has he been all season, best running of the year against Florida
7- Murray — look good last year, hasnt been what we expected this year
8- defensive head coach — good pick up
9- offensive play calling —- CMR needs to jettson Bobo now, like he did Martinez
10- Hire a sports psychologist — send Walsh to him daily, his problem is the 4 inches between his ears
11- Cromwell needs to follow his blocks more

I’m sure this gets buried in this blog – so I’ll probably post it up top again soon – but does anyone realize the Dawgs depth in 2012?
QB – Everyone is back, and Christian Lemay just became a threat
RB – Crowell, Samuel, Carlton – all back – and you better believe we will add a bad arse Freshman
WR – Tavarras, Marlon, Malcolm, Conley, Michael Bennett, Rantavious – all back – Justin Scott-Wesley yet to play
TE – Even if Orson leaves early – which I don’t think he will – We’ve got Arthur Lynch and Jay Rome (2011 #1 TE prospect)
G – Dallas Lee, Kenarious Gates, Chris Burnette rotation
C – Andrews
TACKLE – That’ll be the issue – Theus will start fo sho

Defense
DE – Abry Jones and Garrison Smith have been great – and Lott is moving people off the line
DT – Jenkins and Geathers return
LB – Cornelius Washington, Jarvis Jones, Christian Robinson, Mike Gilliard, Amarlo Herrerra, Chase Vasser, Ramik Wilson, Ray Drew and… oh yeah – Alec Ogletree
CB – Branden Smith, Sanders Commings
S – Shawn Williams, Rambo.

The University of Georgia is Motherhumping STACKED for the future. I’m not crazy about Bobo’s playcalling either – but let’s get behind what’s happening right now. We have a winner on our hands for the next 2-3.

Thomas Brown, you cannot add the 12 victories Georgia won against those poor teams. They did not have a loss to UGA when they played UGA. So really those teams had a record of 45-65 which is not good but it does say AARON MURRAY WON 12 games against those teams……Who else on the team would have won more than 12 games the last two years…… Why not say BEN JONES was the reason we lost all those games. It is a team effort not AARON MURRAY WINS AND LOSSES….You cannot have it both ways either he won 12 games or he lost 9….Regardless of what the other teams records was. He has won 12 games now….I guess we should just talk coach Richt into sending him to Alabama State and start over with another redshirt freshman or sophomore. Get over it……

BobDawg,

Which is it sir ? We are great because we beat Florida, an unranked team who does not have a winning record who does not have an Offense, who cannot pass the football, who leads the nation in penalties, and who nearly leads the nation in turnovers with the # 94 in the nation total offense. Or, Florida is no different from the other teams we have beat since Aaron Murray was made our Starting QB ? A team with a losing record. A team who is not ranked. Of the 12 wins with this Starting QB, none have a winning record. None are ranked. We have Lost all the other Nine (9) games in which Aaron Murray was the Starting QB for us. It is not all Aaron Murray’s fault, but it is clear that in those 9 Losses, the better QB on the field that day head-to-head was not Aaron Murray all 9 games – while the coach who gives us this guy as our Starting QB, averaging 1 yards a carry for his career here which started December 2008 practicing for the bowl game 2008, on Saturday lined up 31 fewer of the Scholarships he handed out for Kick-Off.

Of the 3 of the 31 who went to the NFL, 1 flunked out, 1 failed the drug test at the NFL combines, and the 3rd was suspended for 4 games for selling a Shreveport bowl game Jersey for $1,000. The other 28 are even more egregious. Our special teams are marked by walk-ons and no coach, and we wonder why they are not stellar while we watch every opposing team, actually line up their best players for their special teams, instead, by direct contrast. Our offense for 11 years consecutively now for Mark Richt, average the # 52 Total Offense all 11 years. This year it is # 56. We have stayed in the bad press daily, for (1) not beating the great teams we have played with our 3-10 record vs teams who ended up top 10 all 11 years and (2) for off-field issues such as 31 players – just Gone – to which each DISNEYdawgs.com said Good Riddance, players who could have played at Kick-Off Saturday and did not. Our Offense, starts out slowly and then fizzles out altogether.

We promote a S&C guy up in S&C who has been here since 1982, worked nowhere else ever, and pronounced we have fixed our S&C which is not obvious watching our offense whatsoever : Joe Tereshinski II. We are a pass-happy offense and have been 11 years and running and will be next year, too. Why do the top running backs in this state who go on to Stardom at our Opponents’ schools, choose them and not us ? For 11 years, we have had bubbles at OL where we just don’t sign players, or sign players who were injured after we offered them, when every other school withdrew their scholarships to them, only to watch them never play here either. We are outside the top 25 after 2005 in winning percentage. 2005 was 7 seasons ago. 7 seasons ago, way back then, we ended up the # 3 SEC team in every poll. Back a decade ago, 10 years ago now, Mark Richt found but 1 other SEC team who ended up in the Coaches’ poll top 25 a 4-loss Auburn. And, for good measure Mark Richt has Lost to 17 teams in 11 years, not 1 of which ends up in the top 25 had they not beat Mark Richt. Our recruiting coordinator have left us with glaring holes while stock-piling other positions to run up his recruiting ranking : Rodney Garner. Our running backs’ coach has failed to keep his players motivated to play running back for us since he was handed that job by Mark Richt which has been 5 years now, a guy whose Dad was a great RB for us, but who was a WR himself. Our WR coach was a great RB. Our TE coach was a QB. And, our OC we stole from JAX State, who there was their quarterbacks’ coach. Why has our Offense averaged # 52 all 11 years of Mark Richt in NCAA Total Offense ? And, if the decision on the 31 – just Gone – for Kick-Off last Saturday, was Good Riddance – that they were just no good and bad apples; then, BobDawg, sir, why in the world would you expect anything different from the next total group of 85 Scholarships to have 31 or some number thereabouts who are – just Gone ? We play favorites.

There is no doubt that Aaron Murray had his worst game ever Saturday; well, he has had a ton of bad games; yet, we haven’t put in the back-up and have not developed a back-up QB every year of the 11 years with the sole exception of DJ Shockley whom Mark Richt promised his Dad football coach Donald Shockley, that he would play him in every game early in return for him accepting the Redshirt 2001. We haven’t evaluated the talent well around here for 11 years. We have run off – just Gone – players whom Mark Richt gave Scholarships to, who never were given an opportunity. Is Christian LeMay better than Aaron Murray ? We are not going to know. Not. Aaron Murray will take every snap no matter how poorly he does, every game last year, every game this year, every game next year and every game the year after that. And, what with 22 Seniors 2011 and 23 Juniors 2011, are we going to do next season ? Go ahead, you can say it. We are going to miss the 31 players – just Gone – for the Kick-Off last Saturday, next year, just as we will the 22 Seniors now gone after this disappointing year.

Back into The SEC Championship Game. Are you kidding me ? We get our noses bashed in by the likes of Alabama or LSU. Arkansas would too, although neither Arkansas nor South Carolina are that great. Still, we are right on track for my 11-3 for this season, which I said pre-season would mean we would have beat nobody. We have played 9 teams with a winning record since Aaron Murray was made the Starting QB, and Lost All Nine (9.) We are not great. We are not going to be great. BobDawg, sir, you said 1st that both the vols and us are mediocre this season. Beating 6 unranked, none with a winning record, teams in a row – does not, all of a sudden – make us great. Getting a great bowl opponent for the 1st time in 11 years and beating them in a bowl game, would make us great. Beating a team like South Carolina would have meant the world to this program right now, a ship lost at sea, rudderless, and with a fan base content to have Lost every game to every top team and beating only the hapless, the unranked, the teams without a winning record. But, we handed them that game on a Silver Platter. It is what we do. South Carolina, like us, has an easy schedule 2011. USCe Lost to Auburn. Auburn, otherwise has beat no one. Climpsum Farmers are great ? Georgia tek is # 23, obviously not going to end the season a ranked team. Auburn is already not ranked in the Coaches poll top 25; and obviously is not going to end the season a ranked team either. Back into The SEC Championship game, and get our hats handed to us as the booby prize, is not my idea of Great. May be yours. Is not mine, BobDawg.

Mark Richt is too loyal to Aaron Murray. I agree with Tomas Brown, Murray will start every game for the rest of his career no matter how poorly he plays. Lemay will probably transfer so he doesnt have to sit behind Murray, who is clearly just average. David Green never looked as bad as this kid.

1) Talked to an insider that wears one of the headsets and walks the sideline. Bobo from the booth, “somebody go tell Crowell this is the f’n Florida game and to get back in there.”

They did. He did.

2) Most of us have wanted Bobo on a train out of town and his play calling can at times seem transparent. The best thing to happen to him is Walsh getting the yips. He can’t call a series thinking he has a guaranteed 3. The result – he’s developing a solid receiver corps and solidifying the line for years to come (finally), If Murray were on his play calling would show signs of genius…his comment to tell have someone remind IC “this is the f’n Florida game” and for winning when not on all cylinders deserves some long overdue praise from the Dawg Nation.

Weel if he hangs in there at least one more year he improves his draft status. Go this year and he is in the middle to late rounds at best. One or two more years making a name and he is in the higher rounds for sure.

Hey Boykin, if you want to win that Thorpe award you need to hang on to those INT’s that hit you in the hands. Just kiddding but keep up the good work (and return a few more kicks for TD’s).

You don’t “back into” any championship game. You beat who you need to beat to get there regardless of their record or who they have played. IF the other guy didn’t beat everybody that he needs to beat that is his problem. All you can do is go out beat the team you are playing each week.

“Back into” a championship game is just about the dumbest saying about a season as you can get.

Gotta love Gator logic

Winning 34-31 in overtime is a beatdown
Us winning 24-20 is a fluke and only happened because of injury
The last 10 games, 7 being decided by 7 points or less with Florida winning 5 or the 7, equals a beatdown and no more rivalry exists.
The only way we can win is for something to be wrong at Florida, never because we were just better.
Even if Muschamp fails, the enxt coach will be better than ours and florida will always win.

I know the reason that a person goes to college is to get an education and/or job skill that enables them to make money to support themselves for the rest of their lives. Therefore, you can’t blame a guy who leaves early when they know they can make millions in the NFL. However, if you look back over the last several seasons, we have lost just enough of the early departures every year to really put us behind the 8 ball. Stafford and Moreno; Curran and Jones; Green and Houston. I am hearing that several of the NFL eligible players have made a pact to return next year. As a Dawg fan I hope that is true.

Vince,

So what would be your choice. Do we just say, give the SEC championship to either LSU or Bama. and not even play the game. How about this scenario:
S.C. loses this weekend, and UGA beats, Auburn and Kentucky, and wins the SEC East.
LSU and Alabama play this weekend and of course one wins, but the winner has a key injury to an offensive player and it will have a direct affect on their ability to score points. UGA decides to play in the SEC championship, because they have earned the right to play in it. UGA plays and loses the game but shows they can play with the team, even in defeat. UGA actually rises in the polls and finishes out the season with a good bowl win, that catapults them in spirits and each player looks forward to next season, and will be much improved. Let’s even take out the injured star for the other team, and our defense has a great game, and the game ends close. Any DAWG fan would be satisfied with that scenario. The DAWGS will not feel any added pressure for this Championship game because, nobody expects them to win. Suppose the DAWGS keep the game close and respectful, or by something short of a miracle, given the fact that we are such a young team, actually win? Does that get them back on the national radar and help recruiting for the next year and probably a few years after that?
I am reminded of a saying, my Drill Instructor used to yell at us, in basic training. “Losers Never Win, and Winners Never Quit”. I for one, am darn proud of what this team of youngsters has accomplished. I have the time to sit around and pick apart every little thing I can find, that I would like to see improved, but unlike some others on here, I choose to accent the positive. These kids are playing hard, want to win and serve the support of DAWG fans. There will be time, to plug in some holes and solidify others after the season is over and recruiting becomes serious as signing day approaches. Right now, UGA does have a few problems, but has anybody noticed how, these DAWGS always seem to find a way to plug in another young body, and cover the injury, and if needed, replace an individual that is not performing as well as he should? This is a team, very much together, and playing like a team. They will establish a legacy for themselves, and in a few years, we will all be saying how great this young group of men played and look how far UGA is up in the food chain of football, in the SEC and country.
I think now is the time for all true UGA fans to get behind their team, and not be so darn critical. Some supposedly dedicated DAWG fans that comment in these blogs, can’t wait for each game to end, win or loss, to point out all the negative crap about the team, game and anything else they can. Me personally; I don’t give a darn about all of that, because I see improvement in this team each week. The DAWGS won, they performed pretty well in most areas, and they don’t need any of the negative commentators on these blogs to point out all of their little faults or supposedly faults. A “W” is just that in the record books and if it gives them a chance to play in a better bowl or in the SEC Championship game, either support your team, and if you can’t do that, change your allegiance and find a team you can.

Our program stunk last year. We played flat against Boise. Our O and special teams handed the game to SC. The way you start rebuilding is by winning the games that you are supposed to win. And get better doing it. Richt is doing that. Grantham is showing why he is getting paid the big bucks. If Bobo picks up his share of the load, and the Florida game showed a lot of promise on the play calling, then we are looking pretty good the rest of the year. I don’t care what SC does or doesn’t do now. All we can do is win the games that we play. If we don’t end up in the dome then that’s our own damn fault for screwing up against SC. If we do then great, we either win or lose can’t ask the kids for much more than getting back on track. Anybody can get beat on any given Saturday, that’s why you play the games.

Everybody does realize that we have major talent that will be coming back and coming in. We are a young team right now. I will gladly take 11-3 record this year. Sure as hell beats 6-7.

I really enjoy reading up on the Dawgs on the AJC and getting the latest news, but as for Thomas Brown, my god you are just depressing my man. Do us all a favor and root for somebody else. Your negative outlook is draining and exhausting. Just smile and enjoy life bro!

Hope he stays. We’re losing too many key players to the NFL before they’ve run out of eligibilty. If he stays, the Dawgs could truly have a great team, and perhaps challenge for something big! For the most part, the ones that leave early, are ready. It’s been terribly frustrating having these talented players, knowing they won’t stick around for 4 years.

Georgia would have just, as much chance at winning, against LSU, or Bama as they would losing, that’s the reason they play the game, we have one thing this year, we didn’t have last year, and that’s a Defense, if Georgia can get their special teams going, and our Offense clicking the sky’s the limit.

Is anyone besides me tired of Scott Howard? He’s still doing color instead of broadcasting the play by play. And that screeching he does when he gets excited. Also I never thought I’d miss Loren’s sideline coverage, but Chuck D is a true simp. Sorry…..but that’s my take.

JJ was similarly low-key when he transferred to UGA and during the ensuing year. A former 5 star recruit who originally chose USC over UGA, I recall him saying that the limelight was unimportant to him and he simply wanted to spend the transfer year getting healthy, getting better and getting ready to play in 2011.

Sounded like a very mature guy then and sounds like that now. He carries himself quietly letting his on-field play do his talking for him. A huge talent and a great character guy as well. We were very fortunate that he decided transfer to UGA (Lil Kiffey may have given him a push). For that we should be grateful.

Jones is prime example for GA HS kids being courted by all the prime time universities. USC was the sexy choice at the time, but not the right choice. I hope future UGA recruits look at his position. Jones came back home..and has shined all year!! Sometimes these current successful colleges like Bama, LSU, USC, etc…stockpile talent…and its possible to get buried in teh depth chart. Its important to look at schemes and depth chart when choosing a school. Just shows how a just a couple of key recruited playmakers can significantly change a program for the better!!

Finally a talented college player who recognizes there is a big difference between having a few big games in college and a pro career. I wish more of our players the last few years had recognized that and stuck around their senior year. I know Georgia would have benefitted from their leadership and the kids could have had another year to learn the game and improve their draft stock. There will always be the exceptions like AJ who everyone knew had the talent to play in the pros, even as a freshman, but that happens rarely. I guess some guys just really hate going to class is all I can figure. Thanks for making the smart decision, Jarvis. Damn good Dawg.

jarvis is now my favorite player. I already loved what he did on the field but a guy who wants to come back to school and admits he has more to learn has his head on strait. I love ya Jarvis!!! Keepin be a model for your teammates! and about Isaiah come on man you have so much talent and i love ur style of play (when ur on the field) we need you stop smoking dope. It cant be worth losing the chance to be an all american and 10 years pro. Just start hanging out with better people!!!

Yeah… right. My little niece is not considering an early exit for NFL either. Of course, she’s only in fourth grade. JJ is not a draft prospect on anybody’s radar. What a goofy article.

Jones had a whale of a game vs. UF. If he can stay healthy, he should finish with 12-15 sacks. I’m hoping the Dawgs get an early lead & allow the 3rd & 4th string players to get some reps…helps to build depth.
