WHAT THEY SAID
Postgame quotes . . .
GEORGIA HEAD COACH MARK RICHT
“To God be the glory. I’m thankful for what just happened. I know it was just a ballgame, but it seemed like a lot more than that. Just to see our players and fans celebrate in this place especially was awesome. I’m very glad to be a part of this today.
“Thankfully, we got a couple of turnovers deep in our territory, and both of our touchdown came on fourth down calls. They were very clutch plays. It takes those types of plays to win this ballgame.”
On the SEC Eastern Division race…
“In hindsight, I can say this now that it’s over, but this was more than just another game to win and to keep pace in the Eastern Division. You could see it with our guys, but we didn’t want to try to make it any bigger than it needed to be. We wanted them to focus on their jobs, and I thought they did that. It wasn’t looking good early on, and credit Florida for what they did in their two-week period. But down by seven at halftime, we still had a good feeling. We were in good shape.”
On what was said in the Georgia locker room at halftime…
“I didn’t see the deer in the headlights look. What I saw was a bunch of guys focused and believing. I thought our staff did a nice job of making adjustments to what they were doing. We had a good plan in the second half, and our guys executed well. And we finished the game without the drama at the end.”
On Georgia’s defense…
“Our defense was fantastic. To start the game, they didn’t have a back in the backfield, so they weren’t really trying to run the ball. Quite frankly, we didn’t have many answers early on. We were able to force a couple of turnovers and took care of business.”
GEORGIA PLAYER QUOTES
Sophomore quarterback Aaron Murray . . .
“All of those guys did a great job of going up and making a play when it counted. They went up high in the air and basically wrestled it way from the defenders to make some awesome catches. Those guys were huge for us tonight.” On beating Florida: “It’s just a great feeling. Everyone has been saying how lopsided the series with Florida has been over the years but this team was 0-0 going into this game. And now we’re 1-0. We have been working on a lot of the plays that worked for two straight weeks now and I think us hitting some of those huge touchdown catches changed the momentum of this game.”
Sophomore outside linebacker Jarvis Jones . . .
Freshman receiver Michael Bennett . . .
FLORIDA HEAD COACH WILL MUSCHAMP
Opening statement:
“We had our opportunities in the game. We had two turnovers inside our 25-yard line; gave up 14 points on two critical fourth down plays and a lack of being able to run the football – too many penalties in critical situations. Obviously John went and we got some performance on his part, very proud of him and his effort, he’s a guy who really lays it on the line. We couldn’t get him under center to do some of the things we wanted to do, we knew that going into the game. We felt like we had some things in the throwing game and that’s why we stayed with what we wanted to do in that situation. We have to find some ways to run the football. We cannot be so one-dimensional and that’s something we have to work on. We got a turnover inside the 10, end up with two sacks and we’re out of field goal range. Those are very frustrating to deal with, but we had our opportunities in the last two ball games. We have to close it out and win those games.”
On Brantley’s ankle status affecting the run game:
“Well there’s no question it affects the run and we run the ball so much east and west – we need to be able to run the ball downhill and when you’re in the gun it’s hard to run the ball consistently downhill. So again, he’s limited with his ankle but we felt like he gave us opportunity to be successful in the game so that’s what we went with. I’d do it again, John played well and we just need to figure out how we can run the ball a little bit more effectively.”
On the rest of the season:
“I just go to work. You know you have to go back and go to work, evaluate where we are and figure out some different answers. We had some different things planned in the game, but we stayed with that because we felt that gave us the best opportunity to be successful against this group. They’re big thick inside, we just wanted to spread them out and try to run the ball and we didn’t have success doing it. ”
On Jarvis Jones and rushing the ball:
“Jarvis is a good player, he’s a good rusher – their best rusher. He did a good job, but again, in those situations you have to be able to have some sort of run game to slow down the rush and it’s tough on the tackles to continue to kick out and block the edge rushers. We need to go back and evaluate the run game and figure out ways to run the football.”
FLORIDA PLAYERS
Sophomore Kicker Brandon Phillips . . .
Redshirt Sophomore Center Jonotthan Harrison . . .
Senior Tackle Jaye Howard . . .
On dealing with losses: “It’s tough to deal with, but all we can do is continue to go out and show up every week and just give it our best. Since I’ve been at Florida, I’ve only been through one difficult season, and that was last year. It’s just going to develop a competing edge in me so I can take it to the next level. Everyone’s taking it hard. It’s four games in a row that we’ve lost now. The only thing we can do is keep the team motivated and keep pushing. The season’s still not over. We can go out and win and get a good bowl game, so that’s what we’re playing for now.”

Way to go St. Richt, you beat the worst UF team in 2 decades which was playing with a one-legged QB. Now that’s quite an accomplishment
Truer words never spoken. Toss in the two red zone turnovers, the fact that our QB was taking cheap shots down low all day, and two garbage 4th down TDs that resulted from FL D breakdowns, and you’ve got the league’s most delusional fan base talking about being competitive with Alabama. Pretty funny-enjoy losing 8 of the next 9 now.
——————————–
Less class has never been shown. Congrats on making yourself look stupid. Cheap shots down low? Really? From a UF fan? Come on dude that is just weak and you know it. YOU KNOW IT but it makes you feel better so you say it anyway. 4th down garbage TDs? Seriously?!?!?!? That doesn’t even make sense. But from you, I don’t necessarily expect it to. Especially since you had man on man coverage on both plays, as was called by your DC and both guys were in position and STILL GOT OWNED. That wasn’t a defensive breakdown dude but I guess football knowledge would be needed to see that. Now, UF’s 4th down TD was blown coverage and a bad call on D rushing 6 on a 4th and 19. As for the 2 redzone turnovers, give it a rest dude, because both were CAUSED by Georgia player getting their hand on the ball. Just do the classy thing and give credit where credit is due. If you can’t take the loss with some dignity, then don’t come on here after the game. Some of you are the worst losers since the Russians in the 1980s.

To my eyes Georgia was clearly the better team. Our offensive line continues to miss blocking assignments. Brantly does not understand that throwing the ball away is better than being sacked. We can’t run between the tackles. We make critical penalties and the sheer number of them is mind boggling………..etc, etc, etc…….
Sadly this loss felt just like a Zook era loss. Awful.
Congrats Georgia.

Hey for all those complaining about a WIN, go root for some other team. Yeah special teams needs work, but one of those long returns was due to a missed tackle. Murray is working with basically new receivers. Other than King, Brown has been oth most of the year, and bennet and connley are stepping in for mitchell. The “erratic QB play” is more about communicationthan anything. Grantham made the right call blitzing on 4th and long. You would do the same thing on 3rd and long. The hope is that the blitz prevents the opposing recievers from even having time to get down field. The saftey has to make sure no one gets behind him and in this case that didn’t happen. I wish every player had the attitude of Jarvis Jones. Stand up guy it seems and played a great game. Great game guys, Its always good to get a W. GO DAWGS.

Will, love the post, and agree an all counts except the blitz on the 4th and 19. Yes you do it on 3rd and long, but on 4th and REALLY long, send 4, drop 2 to the middle to deep coverage and cover the end zone (in this case) with 5. The blitz caused Rambo to HAVE to move up as soon as he saw Brantley move up in the pocket in case he took off running because there was NO ONE in the middle and Brantley could have almost ran in the end zone but certainly could have run for a first down. That was the design of the play for Florida.

Fellow DAWGS, UGA just won in Jax after falling 2 TDs behind. That is no small accomplishment no matter what kind of team you percieve FLA to have…If UGA would have lost then everyone would be talking about how wonderful and strong FLA bounced back with a win…I’m poud they could seize the opportunities and convert that to a victory….it is usually the other way around down there…

Nice. Guys. Really nice. I presume that explains away why the worst Florida team in 24 years, and we had all these issues – along with the 31 missing players from the kick-off who should have all 31 been playing.
Excuse Factory gets to work hard, every Monday morning against yet another CUPCAKE like Florida – 6 wins in a row and not 1 of them have a winning record this morning. We have really arrived. I am surprised you did not call for Mark Richt to get a big huge raise and proclaim us NC. Best EXCUSE of the DAY ? Brantley was going to run for a TD.

I thought Georgia was the better team. Special Teams meltdown kept it close. It has become increasingly obvious that Florida is a bad football team. The good news for Georgia is that it won on the road despite itself. Dawgs need to continue to take advantage of the scheduling Gods and run table. I should point out that no one felt sorry for you when you were playing Alabama, LSU and Auburn back to back so we should not be hypcritical of the schedule now. However to stand toe to toe with Alabama, LSU ( Maybe Arkansas ) running game will have to be more consistent. Seems Crowell and Samuel are consistently battling nagging injuries. Revisit the special teams practice sessions whatever coaches are doing does not appear to be working. Good news plenty of time to improve in these areas and time for South Caroling to drop another game. It is what makes SEC football the best.

Look people, regarding the won-loss records of our opponents, all we can do is play the schedule and win. It doesn’t matter if it is by 1 point or 40 points. Coach Richt and the team is doing. All with a lot of young players out there too. Our team, with the exception of last year, traditionally gets better and better as the year gones on. There were a lot of gutsy calls by Richt and the offense out there Saturday. I think that the only people more suprised than me by some of those calls Sat were the Gators. That Conley kid was lights out along with most of our receiving corps, all those guys made catches and moved the ball.

With all the space he had, a first down was likely if he wanted it. But since all you want to do is moan and groan about the team after a win, just find another team dude. It’s ok, we won’t miss you or your negative crap. You would have found crap to whine about during the 13-1 season too I bet.

The only thing that seems to bother me a lot about the continuous B.S. that most of the Gator Fans on here are blogging is this. Exactly, how do you supposedly have a top 5 recruiting class for the last 4-5 years and still lose. Shouldn’t you have enough depth to beat, a bunch of young kids from an upstart UGA team?
even a rookie coach should be able to coach all of these top notch recruits to beat UGA, right? Your coach guaranteed that Florida would beat UGA as did most of your so called Gator Fans. Sounds like he wrote a check, with money he didn’t have. You were beat by the better team this year, so there are no real excuses you can offer. A good team can overcome it’s injuries, especially, one so deep in good recruits as Florida is supposed to be. UGA didn’t have their best WR, had to sit two defensive players for the first half, and our top RB, played at most half of the game, and hasn’t quite learned how to toughen up a little and play dinked. Our coaches adjusted to the flow of the game, and your coaches didn’t. It is as simple as that and the fact that we have a lot of good recruits playing and learning out there right now. And surprise of all surprises, we actually can slot in another player, when a starter gets hurt and he can do quite well, when needed. It was coaching and determined players for UGA that won the game. Not injuries, or any other excuse you care to come up with. Just like we have had to endure loses to Florida, you will just have to get used to enduring this loss. Man up, and quit using fabricated excuses and whining to explain your loss.

Only reason Gators where close in this game…Special Teams…Walsh continues to shank punts…Drew didnt punt well in this game….and coverage teams didnt make tackles. We consistently gave the Gators great field position. Dawgs had to earn every inch of the field..and every point on the board. Still not impressed with Bobo’s playcalling…i contribute the points by players going up and making plays when needed!! Only adjustments made in the game…Grantham went to the nickel defense in the second half…played a 4-2-5…and pretty much shut down any speed, and ended up getting better pressure on Brantley with just 4 d-linemen…and man coverage on their slot receivers. UF’s special teams killed us. Funny how this season has been playing out, our weaknesses are actually our strengths (WRs, LBs)…and our strengths have been our weakness (QB, Special Teams). My DGD awards for this week go out to entire WR core, Samuels, Jones, and Grantham. Thanks for making my monday morning much more enjoyable!!

Bobo..i’m tired of the shotgun RB hand off play!! I dont know how many times you ran this play with only very very little success. If Murray is more comfortable in the shotgun..then implement the pistol package…to give Crowell some momentum towards the line on the handoff. The play develops as he hits the line..instead of it blowing up by the time he get to the line. SIMPLE DAMN ADJUSTMENT…and you better go give some love to the receiving corp for saving your ass this game. they came up with some huge catchs. Not because you got them open…but they went up for the ball and come down with it. DAMN PROUD OF THE RECEIVING CORP THIS GAME!!

John Brantley is a Senior and in his entire career has run for negative yards, total. But, according to YOU
THE DESIGN OF THE PLAY was that he could have run for a TD and certainly a 1st down by DESIGN.
Why did you leave that out ? You are out of your mind if you believe that the DESIGN OF THE PLAY FOR FLORIDA was for John Brantley to RUN THE FOOTBALL (or throw it.)
4th and 19 from the 31-yard line, runs for negative yards for his career, cannot even walk to the sidelines, and you think the DESIGN OF THE PLAY is that he could have run for a TD or certainly a 1st Down (or throw it.)
It was a PASS PLAY you blithering idiot. That was the design of the play and Rambo PICKED Alec Ogletree on the play for good measure. The announcers said that Alec Ogletree got burned on the play. They are wrong on that. It was Rambo who blew the coverage, picked his own man on the play for good measure and then stood there at the goal line looking around with no 1 within 32 yards of him on 4th and 19 with a 1-legged QB you think had the play DESIGNED FOR HIM BY FLORIDA to run the ball for a TD or certainly 19 yards for a 1st Down (or throw it.)
Good one.
Best EXCUSE of the day for our play. Look bubba, we played poorly. It was a sloppy game. Florida is # 120 in penalties, # 114 in Turnover Margin and # 94 in the nation in Total Offense for the season. They had a 1-legged QB who ONLY son, can pass the football.
John Brantley is NOT Cam Newton.
What is WRONG with Georgia ? Fans like you making up or trying to make up EXCUSES for the sloppy play every week against nobody football teams, not 1 of which has a winning record today that we’ve beat all season long.
Florida has NO OFFENSE. Their coach said after the game that he doesn’t have any talent on Offense. And, you run in here to tell the world that you know all and that the play was DESIGNED BY FLORIDA for John Brantley to run for a TD you said or a 1st Down on 4th and 19 from the 31 with him a QB who has NEVER run the football and on this day, a QB 1-legged.

We played 2 teams who have a winning record.
We LOST both, handing the game to South Carolina on a Silver Platter.
We are 16-26 all 11 years vs teams who end up top 25.
We are 03-10 all 11 years vs teams who end up top 10.
We are a team all 11 years who have LOST 17 games to teams who do not end up in the top 25 without having beat us, which we have lost the games against.
I should be thankful that we did not lose to that worst Florida team in 24 years.
I will be bloody well hard to have it proven to me that this means that Mark Richt gets a big raise and that we are going to win a national championship that we have beat 6 teams who today none of the 6 have a winning record.
We STILL cannot beat the great teams. We did not this game lose to a sorry football team, like we have done 11 years a grand total of 17 times. We are not a team which has arrived by beating a sorry Florida team their worst in 24 years, or by beating ANY of the 6 teams we have beat in a row. And, the game is best described by everyone as a sloppy game by UGA, with inconsistent QB play by UGA and a horrid game best described of our Special Teams as REQUIRING Mark Richt to have to hire him a Special Teams’ Coach.
The problem we have around here is that we have fans like you who dream up that beating Florida as bad as they are, means we are great, will soon win the NC, that 2002 was not marked by only 1 other team ending up in the Coaches’ poll Top 25 for 2002 a 4-loss Auburn and that 2005 was not marked by us ending up # 3 of just The SEC teams # 3 SEC in all the polls.
We are a poorly coached team with a fan base that is satisfied if the head coach is a Christian – in fact, we prefer to never beat the teams who end up in the top 10 – or if we do those 3 years to see us actually having 4 losses, or 3 losses or 4 losses and ending up the # 5 the # 3 or the # 5 team of just SEC teams in all the polls.
I love the one RED DOG 77 put up last night that yes he is the 1 who bragged that we would be Great beyond measure for 2010 and that he is proud of that.
You fans trying to make excuses for the 6th win in a row over teams who not 1 has a winning record today, are the cause of our problems. What’s worse ? You don’t even see what a cushy job you then offer up to Mark Richt for his annual total compensation of 3 point 5 million.

I think in ANY professional game, you can pick a apart the game about each individual team’s flaws. Yes, UGA’s special teams has been horrific for pretty much the whole season. And yes, we haven’t beat anyone that’s really worth a damn, and yes, UF is NOT the UF of a few years ago. BUT, for UGA and us fans, this win was HUGE. And the way they did it made it even more special. Being down 17-3 and looking yet like another beating of the Dawgs in Jacksonville, the players dug real deep and came out on top. I thought that Bobo did a pretty good job with the play calling. And Grantham’s only bad call from the defense was calling the blitz on the 4th and 19.
To me, I am just very damn happy we beat the Gators. I said it going in that I didn’t care HOW we beat them (I was off one point on my prediction 24-21), as long as we DID!

So you, Thomas Brown have resorted to this “It was a PASS PLAY you blithering idiot. ” .. Of course it was, but many Weiss plays that are pass plays are designed to open up the middle of the field. The field was WIDE open and Brantley could have done anything he wanted. The pass was thrown ON THE RUN with Brantley MOVING FORWARD and NO ONE to stop him in the middle. So before you in all your “haven’t even played the game” before knowledge start to call out a player like Bacarri Rambo who will never be as inept as you in terms of defense, please consider ALL aspects of the play. I am sure that during the play at full speed with Brantley running forward out of the pocket that Rambo didn’t run the statistics of negative career rushing yards through his head. The mistake was, and still will be, rushing 6 on 4th and 19.

So from I’m hearing, it’s very common for college teams NOT to have a special teams coach. Any one know of any schools that DO have one?

I am so glad I went to the game this year. It is always good to beat Gators. Special teams is killing us this year. MR says its not an issue, but it is. Special teams coach is needed at Ga. The Dawgs tried their best to give the win to Fl. GLAD WE COME OUT ON TOP. GO DAWGS. NOW WIN OUT.
