WHAT THEY SAID
Postgame quotes . . .
GEORGIA HEAD COACH MARK RICHT
“To God be the glory. I’m thankful for what just happened. I know it was just a ballgame, but it seemed like a lot more than that. Just to see our players and fans celebrate in this place especially was awesome. I’m very glad to be a part of this today.
“Thankfully, we got a couple of turnovers deep in our territory, and both of our touchdown came on fourth down calls. They were very clutch plays. It takes those types of plays to win this ballgame.”
On the SEC Eastern Division race…
“In hindsight, I can say this now that it’s over, but this was more than just another game to win and to keep pace in the Eastern Division. You could see it with our guys, but we didn’t want to try to make it any bigger than it needed to be. We wanted them to focus on their jobs, and I thought they did that. It wasn’t looking good early on, and credit Florida for what they did in their two-week period. But down by seven at halftime, we still had a good feeling. We were in good shape.”
On what was said in the Georgia locker room at halftime…
“I didn’t see the deer in the headlights look. What I saw was a bunch of guys focused and believing. I thought our staff did a nice job of making adjustments to what they were doing. We had a good plan in the second half, and our guys executed well. And we finished the game without the drama at the end.”
On Georgia’s defense…
“Our defense was fantastic. To start the game, they didn’t have a back in the backfield, so they weren’t really trying to run the ball. Quite frankly, we didn’t have many answers early on. We were able to force a couple of turnovers and took care of business.”
GEORGIA PLAYER QUOTES
Sophomore quarterback Aaron Murray . . .
“All of those guys did a great job of going up and making a play when it counted. They went up high in the air and basically wrestled it way from the defenders to make some awesome catches. Those guys were huge for us tonight.” On beating Florida: “It’s just a great feeling. Everyone has been saying how lopsided the series with Florida has been over the years but this team was 0-0 going into this game. And now we’re 1-0. We have been working on a lot of the plays that worked for two straight weeks now and I think us hitting some of those huge touchdown catches changed the momentum of this game.”
Sophomore outside linebacker Jarvis Jones . . .
Freshman receiver Michael Bennett . . .
FLORIDA HEAD COACH WILL MUSCHAMP
Opening statement:
“We had our opportunities in the game. We had two turnovers inside our 25-yard line; gave up 14 points on two critical fourth down plays and a lack of being able to run the football – too many penalties in critical situations. Obviously John went and we got some performance on his part, very proud of him and his effort, he’s a guy who really lays it on the line. We couldn’t get him under center to do some of the things we wanted to do, we knew that going into the game. We felt like we had some things in the throwing game and that’s why we stayed with what we wanted to do in that situation. We have to find some ways to run the football. We cannot be so one-dimensional and that’s something we have to work on. We got a turnover inside the 10, end up with two sacks and we’re out of field goal range. Those are very frustrating to deal with, but we had our opportunities in the last two ball games. We have to close it out and win those games.”
On Brantley’s ankle status affecting the run game:
“Well there’s no question it affects the run and we run the ball so much east and west – we need to be able to run the ball downhill and when you’re in the gun it’s hard to run the ball consistently downhill. So again, he’s limited with his ankle but we felt like he gave us opportunity to be successful in the game so that’s what we went with. I’d do it again, John played well and we just need to figure out how we can run the ball a little bit more effectively.”
On the rest of the season:
“I just go to work. You know you have to go back and go to work, evaluate where we are and figure out some different answers. We had some different things planned in the game, but we stayed with that because we felt that gave us the best opportunity to be successful against this group. They’re big thick inside, we just wanted to spread them out and try to run the ball and we didn’t have success doing it. ”
On Jarvis Jones and rushing the ball:
“Jarvis is a good player, he’s a good rusher – their best rusher. He did a good job, but again, in those situations you have to be able to have some sort of run game to slow down the rush and it’s tough on the tackles to continue to kick out and block the edge rushers. We need to go back and evaluate the run game and figure out ways to run the football.”
FLORIDA PLAYERS
Sophomore Kicker Brandon Phillips . . .
Redshirt Sophomore Center Jonotthan Harrison . . .
Senior Tackle Jaye Howard . . .
On dealing with losses: “It’s tough to deal with, but all we can do is continue to go out and show up every week and just give it our best. Since I’ve been at Florida, I’ve only been through one difficult season, and that was last year. It’s just going to develop a competing edge in me so I can take it to the next level. Everyone’s taking it hard. It’s four games in a row that we’ve lost now. The only thing we can do is keep the team motivated and keep pushing. The season’s still not over. We can go out and win and get a good bowl game, so that’s what we’re playing for now.”

@ Still at the bar. Do us all a favor and drink yourself to death. You sir did not have the conversation that I did with John Theus. He has already said that as long as Richt is coach he is coming to UGA. He was wearing a Georgia shirt and discussing his recruitment in a casual “down to earth” conversation. No reporters, no crazy screaming fans. Just he and I discussing how ugly that Notre Dame campus will be in two months.

UF will decline for the same reasons as FSU and Miami. There are far too many high profile college programs recruiting in the state. UCF, FAU, USF…all tickle the top 20 and offer HS footballers a chance at glory. UF’s program will slide to mediocrity.

Dawgs beat Florida!
Nothing else matters…..
God will give favor to those who serve him. He might not favor a team, but he certainly will favor an individual with knowledge and wisdom and bless his work and come through in the nick of time….He is rarely early, but always RIGHT ON TIME!
You think He was going to let Richt go down the tubes?!
You know thousands acknowledge God after a good play or after a win in some way. RIcht does it and people start trash-talking….jerks. Pachoo, you are the ignorant. You dont get it do you? You have no idea why athletes thank God after a big play or win do you? That is being ignorant…..!

@StillattheKool-AidBar——We are going to beat you….AGAIN! Why did you put up the records of who UGA beat? Before Clemson, the teams GT played SUCKED. UNC was the best that you beat and if it was in NC, GT loses. Tech played NOBODY and then lost to who Virginia? LOL. Clemson has a weak defense…..UGA DOES NOT HAVE A WEAK DEFENSE BABY! WE ARE ALL DEFENSE! UF was LUCKY they scored 10 on our D! They got a TD on our D. It broke down on the 4th down play….Otherwise…they got what? a kick return and some field goals? Yep!
Come on Techsters! You KNOW when you play on the road against a half way decent team you will lose! When you play against a team with a really good defnse that also score 20 or more, you are gonna lose…..home or not …..
Who is ranked 18 and who is ranked 22? One team on the way up and one team on the way DOWN….Good thing VT is a home game….VT defense is BETTER than Clemsons. OH and by the way VT is a BEAST against the run! Unlike Clemson giving up 200 yards a game on the ground, VT gives up less than 90 yards a game on the ground….UH OH….True they havent played a hard schedule but neither has Tech, and Techs toughest games on the road…they lost. It is gonna be close…GOOD thing Tech is at home…..
No way Tech beats UGA Defense. Best defense and total team Tech will face all year….UGA. UGA does have to stop giving up big returns though, Killing us cuz the D isnt giving up jack!
Hear that Tech? Not giving up JACK! Heck I smell GT being shutout at home come Nov.26…! LOL

So, what you are saying – despite all the issues with special teams all season long and despite all the play-calling issues all season long, and despite all the issues off-the-field with 31 players Mark Richt gave Scholarships to to line-up at Kick-Off vs FL none of the 31 of whom in fact did, and despite the fact that Shawn Williams made the play of the game recovering Chris Rainey’s fumble which did not look like a DUMBa** to me again, that since it is Aaron Murray who has NEVER beat a team who finished the season with a winning record, that it is in your opinion, all Aaron Murray’s fault and Mark Richt is just awesome. Just look at the RECORD BOOK
17-26 record all 11 years vs teams finishing top 25
17 losses all 11 years vs teams who would not have finished top 25
03-10 record all 11 years vs teams finishing top 10
Does that about cover it for your opinions ? That it isn’t Mark Richt’s fault, but Aaron Murray’s ?

“You did not mention the Colorado game which I consider a major embarassment. The Arkansas game was there for our taking but we cannot make 4 yards in 2 downs because we decide to send all receivers long instead of running the ball or tossing a short pass; we get sacked. After all the mistakes and turnovers on Saturday, we are tied 31-31 with a minute to play and possession of the ball and what do we do? The same style of play we have shown all year. Instead of playing to win we play to not lose. Our BEST chance to win the game was to use our 2 minute offense to gain 25-30 yards and let Walsh have a chance to win the game. But we decide to run into the line for no gains and letting the clock run out. Urban Meyer was stunned and called his own timeouts to get the ball back with 25 seconds so they could try to win it in regulation. That’s the difference!”

WTG Dawgs, defeating the demons that haunt this game. Well done.
Wretched job by the Gators, having a big lead and blowing it. Their offense utterly sucked.
I recall one series where they started in UGA territory and took 3 straight QB sacks! They
have to be so mad about that game and no one to blame but their own ineptitude.
Well done, UGA.

Way to go St. Richt, you beat the worst UF team in 2 decades which was playing with a one-legged QB. Now that’s quite an accomplishment
Truer words never spoken. Toss in the two red zone turnovers, the fact that our QB was taking cheap shots down low all day, and two garbage 4th down TDs that resulted from FL D breakdowns, and you’ve got the league’s most delusional fan base talking about being competitive with Alabama. Pretty funny-enjoy losing 8 of the next 9 now.

To my eyes Georgia was clearly the better team. Our offensive line continues to miss blocking assignments. Brantly does not understand that throwing the ball away is better than being sacked. We can’t run between the tackles. We make critical penalties and the sheer number of them is mind boggling………..etc, etc, etc…….
Sadly this loss felt just like a Zook era loss. Awful.
Congrats Georgia.

Does this hypothetical rant sound familiar?
The program is out of control. Absolutely no leadership from the head coach. He doesn’t have a clue and the team reflects his incompetence. 14 penalties for a total of 106 yards. Just no discipline from the top down thus the players act like T H U G S. The offensive coordinator is a dud. This bozo needs to be fired. He’s overpaid and over his head. Only 1 first down in the second half. Negative yards net rushing. QB only completes 35% of his passes. The defensive coordinator hasn’t a clue. Wasted a 17-3 first quarter lead. The guy needs to be fired. 4 losses in a row. Haven’t won a game since September. We get all these top recruiting classes and the coaches do nothing with the talent. Our head coach should be on the hot seat. I hope the AD cleans house after this season.
No, we’re not talking Georgia. We’re talking Florida

So all we hear from Gator fans before the game is “Florida always beats Georgia”, and “the Dawgs won’t be able to handle the speed”, or “the Dawgs will choke this away again”. Now that ALL of those were proven to be crap, this is the EXCUSE factory now.
Listen Gator fan (not necessarily the classy ones, because we do get those on here sometimes), talk all the excuses you want about your one legged QB and being the worst team in 2 decades but it’s just that, an excuse. You have had top recruiting classes for YEARS. And your one legged QB didn’t look too bad moving up in the pocket to complete the 4th and 19 for the TD now did he?
And keep this in mind, UGA didn’t have their top WR for the entire game and had two of their better defensive players missing for the first half. Just live with it. You got beat.
