Georgia tight end Aron White can't say enough when it comes to playing the Florida Gators. (UGA photo by Rob Saye)
To outsiders Aron White may seem like nothing more than a backup tight end with a good academic resume. But inside the Bulldogs’ locker room, there might not be a more influential person. Yes, he’s a cut-up and a mile-a-minute talker, but he’s also a fifth-year senior and a leader and an extremely bright individual who has bought into everything that is UGA. And in terms of being a team spokesman, nobody has embraced the role more than this Missouri native, who might be the only member of the football team who actually looks forward to his weekly media opportunities with the local press.
With that in mind, White had so much to say and so passionately about the Georgia-Florida game during our relatively brief session on Wednesday, I decided to share it with you in full. With White it’s important to note that he speaks extremely fast and almost in a stream-of-conscious manner. Let me know what you think.
Meanwhile, I’m on my way to Jacksonville and will have more for you later. Enjoy . . .
ARON WHITE:
On the team’s attitude the week of Florida game . . .
“People get a little tight during Florida week and that’s the way it’s always been. That’s fans, players, staff, coaches, everybody. Everybody just gets a little more serious during Florida week. There’s not as much joking around. That’s just across the board. That’s everybody.
“Players joke about who will be the first person to get yelled at. And when they do, you’ll hear half the team go, ‘it’s Florida week!’ Because they know, it’s Florida week and there’s no playing around. I get busted a lot for joking around because I talk a lot at practice. Not necessarily bad stuff but I’m just a character sometimes. Sometimes the coaches don’t like hearing it, sometimes they don’t mind. So every once in a while I’ll get caught off guard and they’ll chew me out. I might’ve gotten caught this week once or twice.”
On the lack of recent success versus Florida . . .
“I want to win it because of the fans. The Bulldogs don’t like Florida and they let you hear it whenever you lose to Florida. I want to win it because they’re an SEC East opponent. I want to win it because we need another victory to stay in the hunt to get back to the ’ship (championship game).
“But more than any of that, I’m playing for my teammates, I’m playing for my coaches and I just hate Florida. Regardless if Florida was on the other side of the United States, if they were in the Pac-10 or the MAC or whatever, I don’t care. I’m still gonna hate Florida, I’m still gonna want to play Florida and I’m still gonna want to kill Florida.
“I’ve been around here long enough to see a win against Florida and know how good that feels. But I have yet to do it on the field. I’ve had some good games against Florida and I’ve had some bad games against Florida. But regardless, this is a new year, this is a new day. This is two new teams as it is year in and year out and we’re coming to get them. I don’t care what anybody says; I don’t care if somebody’s out; I don’t care if somebody thinks we don’t stand a chance; I don’t care if all the Bulldogs are behind us; I don’t care if one Bulldog is behind us. I’m still going to come out there with the same passion and intensity against Florida that I do every year and I feel like my teammates will echo that.”
Do you share this passion with the young players?
“I think if they haven’t heard it enough they will by the end of this week. As much as we take everybody one game at a time, this is a game we look forward to every year. Just like we look forward to Tech, just like we look forward to Tennessee, just like we look forward to Auburn.
“I think it’s easy to see here what games are a little bit more important to us. There might be some other games we just need to go out there and win. But I definitely think we’ve done a good job of conveying to the guys who have never played in this game before how important it is.
“I think we echo the frustrations of the Bulldog Nation in general the last couple of outings, because we feel like we have not necessarily been playing to our ability when we go down to Jacksonville. We’ve definitely have made some mental errors and, not necessarily given games away, but given them more momentum than they deserve. You know, Florida has a great program and they’ve played great against us. But last year we felt like it was about time for the tables to turn. We felt like we were playing great and we let a close one get by and that one really hurt.
“For me personally, I’ve always played well against Florida and that was the first year I felt like I did not play well. I made a critical error. I tipped the pass that got picked right before the half when we were going down there close. That’s something I’ve been thinking about all year. That was a game that really left a lot of frustration with me personally. I’ve got a lot of anger pent up about what happened in that game.
“Blood is definitely going to run hot this weekend. I’m sure at some point something will happen that everybody will say was uncalled for or the emotions got the best of us, whether it’s on their side or on our side. We’ve both been caught doing some antics down there. My freshman year we ran out on the field. The year after that they had us blown out by a pretty good lead and they started calling some timeouts late. But all that’s out the window and it’s a new year and we’re going to come and we’re going to play. And while we didn’t forget those things, we’re going to focus on our game plan and we’re going to need to because guys that get caught up in all that emotion usually lose. It’s the players that stay focused and do what they do best, they usually win.”
On when he first realized the intensity of the Georgia-Florida rivalry . . .
“I got my first taste of it when I was coming out of my junior year of high school in a Nike camp down in Gainesville. Me and Logan [Gray] and our running back went down to Florida and we were touring everything. Logan already had an offer and they were debating offering me because they had already signed Aaron Hernandez, who was obviously an outstanding player for them. I remember Coach [Dan] Mullen was recruiting me and Logan and I didn’t feel like I got treated very well down there. Coach [Urban] Meyer didn’t take time to talk to me and that’s something that resided in me. And when I did commit to Georgia, all I heard was ‘y’all have to go get Florida.’ I realized at that time it was a big rivalry, but I didn’t realize how deep that hate was between us.
“Since I’ve been here there’s a lot of rivalries I’ve really bought into. All the rivalries really. They’re all going to stay with me throughout my lifetime. They’re a part of me and I’m a part of them. But I don’t think any of them run quite as deep as Florida. It’s something that I’ve bought into fully. I don’t care if I’m in Missouri or I’m in Georgia, I don’t care where I’m at, if I see Florida on somebody’s shirt or even a license tag, I’m going to slide them a little look. That’s the way it’s going to be. And if they have something to say about it I’m going to say something back. At the end of the day I’m always going to be a Dawg and everybody’s going to know that.”
On whether UGA wants to beat Florida too badly . . .
“I think over the last couple of years we’ve maybe been too pent up about this game. But this whole season has had a different feel to it. I don’t know if you guys see it, I don’t know if the Bullog Nation, the fans out there, have been able to tell, but there’s just a completely different mentality around here. It doesn’t have the same feel to it, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
“I loved the feeling in ‘07. We had a great group of guys then and since then it changed. But this year it’s completely different. I don’t think we’re an uptight crew. Even when we were 0-2 I don’t think we were an uptight team. I don’t think we played uptight. We made some errors, definitely, early on, especially in the South Carolina game. And we’ve made mistakes since then. But we’ve jelled enough to the point that I don’t think we play uptight and get super emotional and where it doesn’t allow the team to play to the best of its ability. We make mistakes sometimes.
“But it is still Florida week and, for whatever reason, guys hone in a little bit more; guys study that game plan a little bit more; guys are in here watching more film. You hear guys all the time say ‘I’m going to the Butts.’ You say, ‘it’s only 1:30,’ and they say, ‘I’m going to go on in and catch some film’ or ‘I want to hit the ice tub again.’ And I love seeing that. I love seeing guys dedicated and there’s no time you see it more than this week and Tech week, in my opinion.”

A comment from the Gainesville Sun by a UF Player – Bulletin Board Material
Florida defensive end Sharrif Floyd said he’s not impressed with a Bulldogs offense led by Murray and freshman tailback Isaiah Crowell.
“We’re obviously focusing on Georgia, but it’s not really just him we’re looking at,” Floyd said of Murray. “It’s the running back and him. But I really didn’t see nothing outstanding.”

Aron White is a lying fool. If their blood was so hot, why do they play like cowards when they get to Jacksonville? Cheap shots, late hits, choking threats are all actions of little pansy cowards. There will be no mercy this year, the smack down the Mighty Gators lay on georgia will end richts career. Good riddence and bring on the next coach and we will beat him down to

“It’s the running back and him. But I really didn’t see nothing outstanding.”
Sharrif needs to learn how to speak. “Didn’t see nothing” is logically equivalent to “Did see something”.
And, with the UF offense looking pathetic, he might want to ease up on the criticism.

A rivalry is when two team try to win but when one team win most of the time it’s hard to think of it as a rivalry. The GA. FLA. game is different. This one is a in your face, in your gut rivalry. It doesn’t matter who win and how often it what it is, A BAD NEWS RIVALRY. I remember when UGA owned Fla. even then it was the same as it is now. I think it has been a while since the UGA DAWGS has had the rare opertunity to take out the gators.10-29-11 seem the best shot…..GOOOO DAWGSSS.

With a defense to back you up, on occassion, you shouldn’t. Nor should you play conservative either. IF something is working stick with it until it doesn’t.
Maybe we should skip halftime in the locker room and stay out on the field. Seems like there have been energy vampires lurking in the locker rooms the past few games.

Love how half of all the red came before color tv’s invention. I will admit that GA really had the upper hand in the 30s and 40s: they certainly were a relevant, dominant factor before and during WW2.

After all the beatings we’ve taken, you figured the fire was out in most players, but these comments from Mr. White get your blood boiling and have you chomping at the bit for 3:30 on Saturday. If all of our guys buy into this, we’ll steamroll Florida, but we still have to be fully aware of what they bring to the table which is a bunch of top recruited fast athletes. Thanks Aaron for getting my blood running real good after reading this, and inspire Crowell and all those other Freshman to come out pumped and mean towards the Gators.
After hearing this, it upsets me even more seeing that picture of Aaron Murray with his Florida State shirt on. I know he’s from Florida, bla bla bla, but when you’re the starting quarterback for another Division 1 football team, you shouldn’t be wearing other teams shirts. If you want to fit into the gameday atmosphere, throw on a maroon Polo shirt or some yellow pants, don’t wear Florida State on your chest. Be more like Aaron White, and be a Dawg through and through, not just on game days.

Even though I’m a Florida fan and I think we will win, Florida BETTER be ready for Georgia’s defense, I saw them play against Tennessee and their secondary was really good… unlike most years. Plus they get that guy back who had the DUI and he’s supposedly one of their top pass-rushers. But I think our running backs will be the difference.

I think it’s important for Georgia to score first… and be aggressive. We haven’t scored first since ‘07 I believe. With the struggles Walsh has had this season, I think we should be aggressive and try to get a TD the first time we get in the red zone.

Turnovers is the key…. seems to be an over used cliche but in reality is vital.
I like what AW said if we do make a mistake there is some maturity to help get over it and keep playing and to not give up.
I think we have placed so much emphasis … and for good reasons… on this game we get real tight and when a mistake happens we cave in.
As painful as the SC game was we did keep coming back so hopefully that was a character builder.

Georgia’s defense is a lot better than last season, I think even Florida fans will admit that… but Brantley looks a lot better too, so we’ll see. If I was coach Grantham, my top priority would be to hang out around the line of scrimmage and stop Florida from throwing the short pass, because Rainey will kill us with it if we let Brantley throw it to him. Watch out for Debose too.

Roll Tide,
We always take the week off before this game and we always win. They know it, we know it. It’ll take a perfect storm of turnovers for them to win. It is clockwork every year and a guaranteed W this year and the next. We’ll only stumble once every 7-8 years. We shouldn’t have lost a game in the 90s: we had a zillion turnovers in one game. I expect nothing less than for history to repeat itself.

I think the thing this year is that Florida just isn’t that good this year, even Jesse Palmer admitted that. It’s not that Georgia is suddenly some awesome team who won’t go out there and make mistakes… it’s just that Florida isn’t what they once were… and Urban isn’t there anymore, Muschamp just isn’t as good as Urban was.

I am not sure how my fellow Gator fans can be so confident this year. The team isn’t healthy, our QB being less than 100% isn’t that great anyway, our WRs are inconsistent, and the defense is still developing. TampaDawg,
I have to agree with you about the lack of class after reading several posts. As a lifelong Gator, I experienced the highs and lows of the 1980s, the great 1990s and the up-and-down decade of 2000-2010. I wish all the Georgia fans and Florida fans good luck on Saturday and safe travels.
As far as fans go, I sat with a bunch of horrible Gator fans at the Auburn game. It almost made me ashamed to say I was one after the way several of them acted. But there are bad fans on every team. I also know a bunch of great Gator fans. Some of my best friends are Georgia fans, some Auburn and some Alabama (as bad as I hate to say it).
This Florida team reminds me so much of the 1988 team, after starting the season 5-0, they lost Emmitt Smith and the offense went anemic, winning just one of their last six to barely make a bowl.
Believe me, every team has its highs and lows. Trash-talking only comes back to bite you in the end.

This game will not be played on using mouth service. I believe it will be played in J’vill 10-29-11. So, I plan to watch the changing of the guard. DAWGS win….by at lest 14 points.

Eric C. they removed some of mine as well. My postion is: Shouldn’t the team be told to avoid these situations. Situations that make players seem not focused on the season. College kids will be kids, but the QB at GA should never pose with a beer in hand wearing a another schools colors during the season. I really think he was trying to blend in and not be seen, knowing it was the wrong place, wrong time.

Not sure if Muschamp is bluffing about Brantley or not. Wonder if they are going to put Burton in that role to throw off our coach staff since they are preparing for Brantley, Driskel and Brissett. Seems odd that they haven’t utilized him thus far. Just a thought…

athdog and north ave. faithful, whatever floats your boats dudes…but I do think the picture is disturbing, assuming that the picture is indeed real, and that it was indeed from this past weekend.
Murray is the leader of the offense and he is breaking the law right before the biggest game of his college FB career? Does someone not have a problem with that? I could not care less if he thows down a few cold ones on the weekend after the season is over, but I sure as heck will care if he gets caught doing it during the season and then gets suspended.
It is almost too hard for me to believe this picture is from this past weekend, but if it is…then Richt has surely lost control of his team. It seems none of the media outlets are making much of a fuss, so maybe it is a fabrication and I’ll just forget it…but this is the kind of BS that keeps the Dawgs from returning to prominence.

Talked to Murray about the FSU matter(s)…on the shirt, well he was trying to pick up on a freshman chick at a tailgate who only would get “friendly” with a QB wearing a FSU shirt (Murray actually told her he was Christian Ponder)….when asked about the beer can, well he it was empty and he was just cleaning up the campus a little to impress that freshman chick…hope this clarifies everything for you folks…glad to be of service…Kenny Powers: out…

You would have to be pretty much dense if you can’t see that these young kids for UGA have a different attitude than last years team. UGA is athletically superior to Florida this year and if Mr. Conservative, AKA Bobo, calls the game right and let’s the DAWGS loose, UGA wins this one handily. If he tries to get a 10 point lead and then shuts down the offense and turns it over to the defense, then he makes it harder for UGA to win this game.
Brantley really doesn’t make that much difference in whether Fl. wins or not. He is at best, a pedestrian QB, and he had better hope his legs hold up all day long, because his OL can’t protect him that well against the DL of the DAWGS.
If UGA runs the ball a lot and well, Florida will not be able to defense it well enough to keep the DAWGS from winning the game. We have a better QB, and surprise, a better OL, as well the ability to control the ball, while moving down the field, and wear out Florida’s defense. Stop their two RB’s from having big games and you can control their offense. I would bet that Florida’s coaches don’t want to be put into a position where they have to depend on Brantley’s arm to win the game for them. We should be able to shut down anything going up the middle and with our LB’s, we can certainly control, the ends, and I think the middle pretty well.
With the talent we have on both sides of the ball, the game really comes down to how well the coaches do in the game. Not worried a bit about the DC but as usual, the OC worries me, anytime the game is in his hands.

Our previous coach left the program in a shambles and we have already proven that we can’t compete against quality competition. That said, we’re playing Georgia – so I expect a comfortable margin of victory.

Now I know Ga is going to get beat. I swear I have heard a similar speech like this for the last 20 years.Usually it is more about how bad Ga is going to beat Florida. Before and during the game, Richt will come up with some gimmicks and act like the players came up with it. Apparently that is what Christians do Then Florida will hit Ga in the mouth and they will lay down for the rest of the game. About the 3rd quarter, Ga fans will be hitting the exits. Sound about right?
Do you think if Florida hired a monkey as head coach they would still win?

So Georgia hasn’t beat anybody? They lost to the two good teams they played – true. However, think about this. Who has Florida beat – nobody that is any good Florida lost to the three good teams they played. So I see this game being even up at kick off. Two teams that lose to the good teams and beat the teams they are supposed to beat. Georgia will be missing three key players at kickoff and Florida will have a gimpy QB with a freshman backup. If Georgia can hold the lead going in to the half and not turn the ball over in the second half they will win. I hate to say it but Richt’s job is still on the line. Go Dawgs – strip the hide off the Gators.

i think treating this game differently is not working (cough cough 3-18 cough). prepare mentally like its UK or vandy…yeah. start believing you’re supposed to win. prepare like you could lose but you’re supposed to win. this year florida isn’t very good while UGA,when they don’t beat themselves, is an excellent team. i hope they spent the last two weeks working with special teams. hey boykin, if you see the entire team shift to make o-line an eligible receiver come up and cover and maybe i dunno… jump the route pass coming from a weak armed punter and take it to the house? belee dat!

Stone Wall Jackson was a Christian and was considered the greatest General in the civil war.

Some of Stone Wall Jacksons Quotations
Always mystify, mislead, and surprise the enemy, if possible; and when you strike and overcome him, never let up in the pursuit so long as your men have strength to follow; for an army routed, if hotly pursued, becomes panic-stricken, and can then be destroyed by half their number. The other rule is, never fight against heavy odds, if by any possible maneuvering you can hurl your own force on only a part, and that the weakest part, of your enemy and crush it. Such tactics will win every time, and a small army may thus destroy a large one in detail, and repeated victory will make it invincible.
—Jackson to General Imboden
To move swiftly, strike vigorously, and secure all the fruits of victory, is the secret of successful war.
—Jackson, 1863
The only true rule for cavalry is to follow the enemy as long as he retreats.
—Jackson to Colonel Munford on June 13, 1862
War means fighting. The business of the soldier is to fight. Armies are not called out to dig trenches, to live in camps, but to find the enemy and strike him; to invade his country, and do him all possible damage in the shortest possible time. This will involve great destruction of life and property while it lasts; but such a war will of necessity be of brief continuance, and so would be an economy of life and property in the end.
Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees.
—Jackson, last words
The time for war has not yet come, but it will come, and that soon; and when it does come, my advice is to draw the sword and throw away the scabbard.
My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. … That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave

Here we go again, every year UGA declares victory against UF, and virtually every year they go home disppointed (except 2-3 out of the last 18 lol). The gators beat you last year with a drop back QB running a spread offense. The outcome will be the same this year.
