This is one of the last shots we saw of Alec Ogletree, getting the defensive call from the sideline in Georgia's Nike Pro Combat uniform at the Georgia Dome. (UGA photo)
Q&A WITH ALEC OGLETREE
Alec Ogletree was the toast of the offseason for the Georgia Bulldogs. Going back to spring practice and all the way through preseason, the experiment of moving the 6-foot-3, 240-pound sophomore from strong safety to inside “Mo” linebacker was said to be an unmitigated success. Coaches and teammates spoke in excited anticipation of the havoc Ogletree was going to wreak playing down close to the line of scrimmage in the middle of the Georgia’s 3-4 defense. “He was practicing extremely well,” coach Mark Richt said. “He was making most of the tackles and he was doing it with some enthusiasm and some physicality. He has the ability to knock people back and he has the ability to run sideline-to-sideline and he has the ability to cover well. He has all the tools.”
But all the air from that balloon was sucked out just two defensive series into the season opener against Boise State. Ogletree broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot in the first quarter. The break was confirmed on X-rays right there at the Georgia Dome and Ogletree has been sidelined ever since.
Make that WAS sidelined. The former AJC Super 11 selection and 5-star prospect was cleared for practice last week. Sunday night, Richt announced that Ogletree would in fact start his first game back next Saturday against Florida in Jacksonville. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham left little doubt that would be the case upon watching Ogletree negotiate his first full-contact practice last week. “It was exciting,” Grantham said with a rare grin. “He looked good. I was fired up.” Here’s a what Ogletree had to say about the injury ordeal and his feelings as he prepares to come back against the Gators:
Q: What exactly happened to break your foot?
A: “I just stepped and tried to turn and run and my foot didn’t turn with me. It just stayed there and popped.”
Q: Do you think it was those new Nike Pro combat shoes?
A: “I don’t really know. It was bound to happen from what the doctors told me. It just happened to happen then.”
Q: I heard you actually played a while with your foot broken. That true?
A: “I played two series with it broken. When I did it, I just started saying, ‘man, I think I broke my foot.’ I tried to shake it off but as play kept going I knew I had actually done something bad to it. I was telling all the guys, ‘I think I broke my foot.’ They were just yelling, ’shake it off, man!’ But I could tell it was bad.”
Q: What was going through your mind when you realized you were seriously injured?
A: “I was devastated actually. I’d never been injured to the point I was sidelined for a long period of time. So it was kind of hard for me. But at the same time I knew I had guys who could back me up and step in and play. And that’s what they’ve been doing, so it really hasn’t been a problem.”
Q: Any concerns whatsoever with the foot now?
A: “No. I don’t feel any pain at all. I just try not to think about it and just go out there and play.”
Q: What did you think of the job Mike Gilliard, Amarlo Herrera, Jeremy Sulek and those guys did in your absence?
A: “I had great confidence in what we could do because of how hard we worked in the offseason and how guys had a different state of mind than last year, the work ethic and stuff. They did a wonderful job as far as stepping into play for both me and Christian [Robinson]. So I give big ups to the guys for that. I mean, I didn’t think ‘Mike G’ was going be SEC Player of the Week, but I knew he could play. So that part wasn’t a surprise. Amarlo stepped up real good for us, too.”
Q: They have played awfully well. Are you worried how you might fit back in?
A: “That’s up to the coaches. Everybody is still going to come out and work hard. No position is given to you around here, so you’ve got to work for it. And that’s what I’m going to do. Each and every day, all four of us, me, Christian, Mike G and Amarlo, we’re going to go out there and work every day, whether I’m starting or he’s starting or whoever’s starting.”
Q: Any discussion of you playing some strong safety with Shawn Williams out for the first half?
A: “No, I don’t think so. I’m just trying to get back into the flow of things at linebacker.”
Q: You and Cornelius Washington both come back this week, but y’all lose Williams and Kwame Geathers for a half. Has it been frustrating not being able to have the full defensive complement on the field for this team?
A: “Like I’ve said, each of the 11 positions on this defense, everybody’s got backups that can step into play any time. So with them coming out I know we’ve got guys that can back them up.”
Q: How eager are you to play again in a real game?
A: “I’m very anxious to get back out there in a game and get going again. I’ve been out so long, right now I’m just trying to work on my conditioning and trying to jell back with the defense. I just want to help my team the best I can.”

Wouldn’t be great to be playing both Boise and SC now that the defense (and offense to a certain degree) have jelled? I think both (games) would turn out quite differently. But I fear this game (Fla) may turn out as usual, for some unknown reason. Let’s hope (and pray) that the tide has at least started to turn, so that we can get back to “owning” them (Fla) like we used to.

Richt has done a good job this season. Grantham will be bobos savior, because all we will need is 2 Tds/game and he will give us 3. Future looks great with this freshman and sophomore class. Vols keep telling everyone to wait, because of their youth but Richt is winning now. Lsu, UGA, tenn, and Auburn will own the next 5 years. Sorry Tide.

“So hopefully we can stay there a while.”
So, now we DREAM to “flash up in the top 25” I mean wow, and hopefully even more wow, stay there just a little while – before dropping back out. We really have lofty goals around here now for the # 11 football program in 1-A wins all-time.

Focus in practice this week and set a good game plan for a dominating offense and defense against the Gators. And …
Work on all aspects of our special team’s play on OUR punting and kickoffs and set a gameplan to cover THEIR punts, kickoffs, and fourth- down play, and we should beat UF this weekend.
We have the talent to do that; we just have to plan and play up to our potential.
Even if we do win out, we’ll need some help from others for a SC loss to get UGA to the SECCG.
We don’t control our destiny, and need that help, but our winning out will help get us there.
Go Dawgs! and let’s beat those Gators this Saturday!

We beat South Carolina all day . Our Defense gave up only 17 point’s in that game.
What’s going to determine the outcome of the Florida game is if Murray came keep his composure and finally beat a team from Florida without turnovers. Murray has got to be patient.
But it will be interesting to see if there were some weaknesses other teams detected in our defense in the second half of the Tennessee game. Something was definitely wrong. Hopefully Grantham knows what it was and has fixed it.

Georgia Tech has the nation’s highest average SAT score for football players, and also the highest average high school GPA.
UGA, on the other hand, had one of the very lowest SAT averages, as well as a very low GPA average. As a result, three-fourths of UGA players are “special admits,” when means that they can not meet the minimum educational and intelligence requirements for admission to UGA, even as low as that is.
Yes, it would be great if Tech was more competitive with UGA, but most Tech fans are proud of our heritage of having intelligent, responsible athletes who go on to rewarding careers and contribute to society.
Contrast this with the very unintelligent t-h-u-g-s that UGA recruits. The 45 arrests over the last four years is proof enough, not to mention winning the Fulmer Cup. Most of these goons are tossed out after their eligibility is over, and many end up on welfare.
UGA is clearly just a football f-a-c-t-o-r-y dedicated to winning at all costs, and most UGA fans are okay with this, with no concern about the embarrassment this brings to the State of Georgia.
Mark Richt is the architect of this situation. With his $3.5 million salary, he will continue to recruit the illiterate brain-dead t-h-u-g-s who he thinks will win. Unfortunately for UGA fans, he’s not remotely in the same league with the top coaches in the SEC.
So the bottom line is that Georgia Tech – win or lose – does so with honor and integrity, while the lowlife gangbangers in Athens continue to embarrass us all.

DawginLex, we do not have a “justice system in this country”. It is a legal system. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.
Go Coach Richt and Grantham. I believe the D will be ready to go. I am hoping that the O side has been keeping things close to the vest. Will we see Boo Malcome this weekend to add the 2nd punch to the running game. I like Thomas but we can’t keep running him up the middle, he needs his space. Wil we be throwing some shorter routs to gain some yards or will it be 2nd and 57 with a running play. Second half of the season starts this weekend. Richt knows how to win and he better put that knowledge to use. GO Dawgs!

It is a shame you share a name with one of our toughest and best Bulldogs. Your negativity is a bit overboard. I have been a Bulldog since 1966 when I started professional school there. I have seen ups and downs in this program and it seems we are on the right track once again. We have problems just like any college program. These are mostly 18 to 22 year old young men who are still learning about life and football. Sometimes they do well and sometimes not so much.
I am no blind homer. We need better special team coaching, better red zone planning and a lot more discipline with penalty situations. All things that can hopefully be corrected.
It would be nice to come to these blogs and not have people like you spewing continual negativity with nothing positive. Having played this game I understand how tough it.can be.
This weekend should start a new era in the series with Florida. I look forward to a Bulldog win.

If the OL does its job, and Bobo calls plays like he did vs SC, we should get the lead. But if we get up by 10 pts, is Bobo gonna sit on it, and start his famous 3-and-outs?

UGA will get a much different Florida team than what showed up to play against LSU and Auburn, so we should temper the talk about blowing them out. We need a win and I don’t care if it’s by 1 point. Brantley and Demps will be back because Muschamp can explain what happened against ALA, LSU, and Auburn, but he can’t let UGA back in this series and he knows it. I still think CMR has to win out to keep his job, but this game Saturday is the biggest so far in his career at UGA.
Also, there is no way you can afford to redshirt Tree with Florida, Auburn, and GT remaining on the schedule. Barring injury next year could be his last year @ UGA and you have to get more than 2 seasons out of a top recruit like Alec.

B U Z Z Z ,
I’ll give you credit for one thing. It takes a lot of guts to come onto a UGA blog, spout the same old poop you always do, and with your team having been exposed as the losers they usually are. Why not stay on your own blogs for techies and offer them some of your divine wisdom as to why they are so good. This is a blog about football. I realize that the concept of good football escapes you, since you must be so buried in your calculus books, you don’t get time to form a good team, but you really need to watch some teams that do play football. Your jealousy is so apparent, it kind of makes you look like a buffoon, to keep spouting your B.S. negative crap about UGA, and not be able to produce a team, worthy of playing even in the mighty ACC. If all your rocket science football players, (and we all know, they are not that), can’t play as a team, perhaps it is your offensive game plan. How many major college programs are running the T.O. this year and winning? Got an answer for that. Don’t use tech. because you have now been exposed by two average teams in the ACC. Maybe it is those so high academic standards that prevent your coach from recruiting athletes needed to compete in your own conference. Maybe, it is people like you, who think you are superior because you go to a engineering school, that sour them them because they know the fan base, thinks they are so superior to everybody else. I keep tabs on a lot of the new scientific things happening at major universities, because, even though I am an old scientist who did not graduate from Tech. (Thank God) and I very seldom see anything new or innovative come from Tech. that makes the news. I see a lot of stuff from Cal. MIT., Standford and a few others but not Tech. Heavens forbid if you lose your ability to brag about Techs. accomplishments in the world of academics as well. You need to concentrate on your own school and stay away from targeting the school, that consistently hands your team it’s britches each game after thanksgiving. People don’t fill a stadium to see supposedly academic all Americans play football as you would like to be able to brag that you do. In fact, they don’t fill your stadium to watch your team, irrespective of academic standards at all. Using your premise and the results it brings, you must really be saying that smart people can’t play college ball. We all know that is not true, so Techs. lack of success for the most part must be do, to 1. Poor coaching, 2. Poor offensive game plan, 3. Smart guys can’t play football, 4. Poor calls by the refs, or most likely, 5. You are a small time school, with terrible fans that do not support their team, in a miserable location for a college.

You Dogs fans that bring up beating Nick Saban are so funny. Heck the East is so weak Ga State could tie for 1st this year. You dogs go and do your yearly choke job in Jax. I have to admit you have that part down. Perhaps Will can get his two smurfs ready to play but don’t dare mention Alabama punter around Demps otherwise he will go get under his bed. Thomas, maybe you could request that the SEC office change the second half of our schedule – maybe substitute LSU for KY? Bama for AU? Would that make you feel better?

Lex,
Having watched a couple of games now of both Bama and LSU, I think LSU will beat Bama. bama has a terrific defense but so does LSU. The difference I feel that gives LSU the advantage, is I think their offense is much more versatile, and it appears to me, if you force Bama. to pass a lot, by shutting down Bamas. hesiman hopeful, LSU beats them.
If UGA wins the East, I think I would rather play Bama. for the conference in Atlanta, and not LSU. They are both fine teams and worthy of their BCS rankings, but LSU to me, looks like the best team in the land right now.

Not only do you owe Florida a whoopin that is waaaaaay overdue, you owe Auburn a whooping too from a nasty game they pulled last year with Nick Fairly trying to take out Murray. They’ll be between the hedges on your turf this time. Florida is now what it used to be even though they have some talent. Go in with the mindset that you are going to win, play hard! In the Vandy game, the O-line missed too many blocking assignments. There were too many unblocked defenders rushing Murray or the RBs. If the O-line does its job, the Dawgs beat Florida. The running game and passing game can roll given the time and good blocking. The defense is sound. Let’s go O-line….FOCUS.

Anybody that thinks we have a good team isn’t paying much attention. Anybody that thinks we really should be in the top 25 group should name at least one team in that group which is clearly not as good as the Georgia football team.

Brantley is listed as probable and will began practicing today according to Muschamp. If you go back until the point Brantley was hurt and left the lineup the gators looked pretty darn good. This is one UGA fan who is worried and suprised that some on here are callling for a big win over UF. After struggling against Vandy and coupled with the fact that UF is getting healthy I think this game is more of a toss up. I hope the players are diligent in their preparation for this game and not looking at UF’s three game losing streak and thinking hey we got this game. UF needs this game just as bad as UGA and will come out with a boost in confidence if brantley is indeed back in the lineup so UGA better watch out.

Fact is, your worries are really unfounded. On paper, UGA sould pound the pooh out of the Gators with or without Brantley. In reality, the paper doesn’t play the game or mix the emotion that goes into this game. The Dawgs should win but, there is a reason they play the games. Yes, his backups have played stellar.
I expect they will all get playing time on different defensive packages during the game, but Alec Ogletree is one of the best players on defense, and if completely healthy and has a good practice week, will get significant playing time and probabl y start.

We’ve reeled off 5 straight wins after the disappointment of being 0-2, beaten by clearly inferior teams. While we’ve won 5 straight, we haven’t looked like even a decent cohesive team. We’ve backdoored in the polls and may very well into an SECCG. Practice, prepare and pound Florida into oblivion. I hope the Bull Dog nation remembers we are playing a team that has beaten us 5 of the last 6, that is coming off getting manhandled by two of the best teams in the nation.and then lost a close one to a pretty decent Auburn team. We don’t show up with our A game and we get beat period. I think we have the horses to win this one if we play smart and control the ball , let the defense get some stops and for the love of all that is hold PLAY BETTER ON SPECIAL TEAMS. The Gators are hoping we don’t take them as the same level of threat as in the last few years..they are, now they are playing to salvage their pride..lets GATA and Go Dogs !

UGA 42 UF 10.
All of the UGA coaches privately want Brantley to play because he has a bumb leg and is NOT mobile to begin with. That allows us to pin our ears back and bring the heat all afternoon. UGA really struggles with running qb’s and that option will be off the table with Brantley. Grantham defends very well against pro-style offenses…it’s the spread he hates. Look for the UGA defense to at least have 6 or 7 sacks. Good luck to everyone and drive safe. This one will be fun for UGA fans.

You’re not the only one that has concerns about playing a healthy FL team. Looking at the dawgs wins this season doesn’t exactly ooze confidence especially the offense and as of lately the way the D and lack of special teams was gashed by Vandy late in the game leaves doubt about the coaches play calling on both sides of the ball. If FL comes out full strength it’ll be the best team GA has played since BSU and they beat GA with the pass. Yes, the D has gotten better and maybe Vandy was just one of those games but a non convincing win like that is not a confidence builder heading to JAX.
I think GA can win but it will have to be the best effort to date by both Offense and Defense and coaching. Cannot stress enough the play of special teams and getting caught off guard w/trick plays that FL is sure to try. Murray must have time to throw and how well GA runs the ball will be another key to winning this game. IC, et al, have to make yards after the hit. Walsh is not dependable anymore so getting in the red zone they must score TD’s and no turn overs!
Score and keep scoring to break FL’s will and keep them down. GO DAWGS!

I Think I will go out on a limb. I think the Dawgs are the thrid best teaam in the SEC in 2011. Yes, you read it correctly. Only Bama, and LSU are better. I think Coach “R” AND coach “G” will put on a clinic the rest of the year. UGA in my opinion has grown up. They trust each other. So, the talking is over it’s time to play UGA FOOTBALL. Only thing is The DAWGS have not faired well in Atlanta. (1) Sugar Bowl loss to “WVA” (2) Kick off 2011 season loss to “BS”. ??? for SEC CHAMPS 2011.

Like the Dawg fans, I hope the Georgia players are thinking they are going to “blow out” the Gators this coming weekend. That would give the Gators a good chance in the game. Frankly, if Georgia does not win this year, the Dawgs may never beat the Gators again. The Gator D is very young, but good. But the offensive line is too inexperienced and the Gators have no playmakers at WR or TE….at least not so far this year. A healthy Brantley gives the Gators a chance in the game. Without him, the Dawgs win by 10 or more points, I think.
But….again…..Richt’s coaching career at Georgia might ride on him guiding Georgia to victory in this game. Lose….and every Dawg fan will want his neck in a round, tight rope.
This game will also speak volumes about Muschamp’s ability to coach up his players for a big game. He has not been able to do that so far this year.

After attending this game for 35 years, I personally can’t or won’t predict who will win. Many a year when we should have won, we did’nt. Tonight our Lord we are gathered as members of the Bulldog Nation and we thank you for the blessings of being a Bulldog.
We thank you for fall afternoons between the hedges, we thank you that we are blessed to hear the Redcoats playing “Glory, Glory,” and we give thanks for the chills we get when the trumpet tones the battle hymn. We give thanks for the smell of ribs cooking on the grills of campus tailgates and we gave thanks for the chapel bell ringing after a victory, and are grateful for the sheer joy of wearing red and black.
We thank you for those moments that we treasure, Tarkenton to Herron, the flea-flicker versus Bama, Appleby to Washington, that kid outa Johnson County running through two men, run Lindsey run, sugar falling from the sky, Butler kicking it a million miles, hobnailed boots that still hurt in Knoxville and Johnson in the end zone.
Tonight we thank you for Aaron Murray, a fine young man who did not charge us $180,000 to play quarterback.
Tonight we thank you that Mrs. Geathers and Mrs. Jenkins allowed their sons to discover biscuits and pound cake at an early age so that we might have a nose guard for the 3-4 defense.
Tonight we thank you Lord for the potato industry in Idaho so that the boys from Boise will have something to do after they learn they know nothing about football.
Tonight we thank you for the new Nike uniforms. We may not like them but we know they look better than a Gator in a tank top and jean shorts.
Tonight we thank you that as we gathered here that we have been blessed, we have been blessed to live in land that stands for freedom, for those who have given of themselves to defend our freedom. We thank you for the blessings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and we pray for your blessings to continue on we who are gathered here this evening that may truly understand that it is great to be a Georgia Bulldog.

Murphy, I dont think whoever is the QB is going to have time to get the ball to Dubose. This defensive line and LB’s should be getting enough pressure against their OL which is not as good as it has been in the past. We have an experienced secondary so I don’t worry a whole lot about their passing game. In the games in the past you could say that UF matched us or had better players at every position. Now you say that for UGA instead of UF. I think UGA has equal or better players than UF has now. UF may have a few track stars but UGA has better football players.

Brantley will wish he had hammed this one up a bit when Ogletree, Washington and Jarvis Jones are done with his corpse. Florida hasn’t been able to handle a balanced offensive attack yet this season. Auburn beat them with nothing more than special teams and a running game. I’m tired of the “Jacksonville Blues” BS spin they’re putting on this game. Vandy is better than Florida this year.

Murphy, what Vandy did was bring in a QB that kept pulling the ball down and running. He did that because he never had any receivers open. We also shut down his running game. When they send the receivers long the middle opens up because the QB is the only one not accounted for. If he pulls it down and runs to open space that has nothing to do with scheme.

bucket, what Mike Bobo is, is a damn fine QB coach. IMO we need to see some type of offense that moves the ball with consistency and scores TD’s in the red zone this weekend. Otherwise he needs to go back to coaching the QB’s and get a new OC. I have actually seen our offense mix it up and score TD’s and move the ball down the field. Then half time hits and we get all conservative and start trying to do clock management where we run the ball three times punt and watch the D go to work. Keep moving the damn ball and score as many as you can because this is the game where you need them.
Murphy, I use to worry about how many yards teams ran up against us. I don’t anymore. I call it a Tech-nical glitch. As long as the other team doesn’t score it doesn’t matter. Tech can run up 500 yards all day long for all I care. It is the scoreboard that counts. Our D is fine. It is our offense and special teams that I worry about. It wasn’t the D at the Vandy game. It was the fake punt, the blocked punt that made that game close.

Are you giving Tennessee the decided advantage over SC then? Playing better teams is an advantage if you put up any kind of production and and glimpses of improvement (see South Carolina UGA/Boise State). Florida got rolled like an FCS school. Could not establish a running game, key defensive stops, or alternate receivers to turn to when they were covered. Neither backup QB goes through their progressions or uses checkdowns. In at least 15 of those 18 losses UGA was just clearly not the better team. When they have been clearly the better team UGA is maybe 3-1 over that stretch. It’s really been the game where no team was significantly better that has been the frustrating part. Losing all 3.
I think the point the earlier poster is making is that unless you think UF is clearly the better team, or about the same, then assuming they win based on any past makes no sense.

@Murphy-we should really worry about Florida’s Qbs
Brantley is 266/431 with 14 TDs and 13 INTs as a starter
Driskel is 16/34 with 0 TDs and 2 INTs this year
Brissett is 13/24 with 1 TD and 3 INTs this year
Murray is 329/540 with 40 TDs and 15 INTs as a starter
The ground shakes for that offensive backfield.

02 for sure. I’d not assume 03. UF had pretty much the same season we did that year. We won that 5th layer tiebreaker to represent the east. I’d group this in the uber-frustrating losses when the team were fairly even.
05′ we had a better team and that certainly qualifies, but obviously we weren’t Chris Leak Vs Joe Cox first start better.
No way we were the better team in 11. that was our worst team in a decade. UF was a preseason top 10 with back to backclaims at somebodies #1 recruiting classes on the field. They had issue but that’s on Meyer. We were not a more talented team or playing any better.
And I certainly have not heard the argument that our freshman INT machine was better than UF’s 06 NC team.

If there was going to be a “mental thing” to worry about, to me its not so much the past. It’s that this is THE game for UF this year. Basically this game is thier season. What can Muschamp do to win ONE game. Richt’s model is more of consistancy over time, But in term of having all the marble in the pot for ONE game, he hasn’t shown that to be his forte’. Of cource no ONE game has ever been his career in the balance.

It held true last year as well. Brantley was 16/25 with 0 TDs and a pick. He is nothing more than a mediocre game manager. If Florida can’t run the ball, and I don’t think they will be able to (I’m comparing our defense to LSU, Bama, and AU here, where we are very comparable) Brantley/replacement QB cannot win a game placed on their shoulders. Could you imagine last year’s game with this year’s D and a better Aaron Murray? That’s what you have on Saturday.

The thing we need to do for Blair Walsh is to stop trying those 45+ yarders. His % is pretty plenty good when attempting a normal FG. He has made more long FG than any of the rest of the leagues PKs have even attempted.
Although I am not really advocating stopping the attempts. I’d rather have him make even 2 out of 3 than punt the ball. Just saying, we lean on him in situations that others don’t, and his stats have taken an unfair hit.

The most distinct Coaching advantage? None of Florida’s coaches have served in a game for Florida against Georgia. There’s no sense of “feel” like Meyer had when making adjustments against us. There’s no handwritten copy of our playbook like Spurrier seemed to have. They are starting from ground zero against a team with A LOT of playmaking weapons (Smith, Boykin, Rambo, Williams, Tree, J.Jones, C. Washington, Gilliard, Robinson, Herrera, Jenkins, Geathers, Crowell, Mitchell, Brown, Murray, B.Jones, TK, Bennett, OC, Aron White, C.Glenn, D.Lee, Figgins, C.Thomas) when was the last time we could list that many BIG TIME dudes in our program? 1969 Graduate…the polls and the computers think the Dawgs are a top 25 team, that’s who.
Oh yeah, and Bzzzzz, et al….UGA has more academic award recipients than any university in the south. UGA has more combined recipients of the NCAA and National Football Foundation Post-graduate Scholarship, NCAA Top Eight Award, and Academic All-American honors than any university in the south. So, Tech might have somewhat higher SATs, but……
Lot of comments saying the game is on Murray. I kinda, sorta agree…in that he can NOT throw INTs and we cannot have turnovers. We need to win the turnover battle.
We also need spec teams to step it up.
We also cannot let 8th-year-seniors Demps and Rainey run wild.
(Well, it does seem like they’ve been there forever.)
So, it’ll take all facets of the game. We put 2 of 3 of the facets together, we have a great chance. We put 3 of 3 facets together, we win. Should be a great game. I don’t care what some might think, if we win it’ll be a “great” win. If you don’t think the winner of Ga-Fla thinks of it as a great win, you don’t know diddly about the UGA-Fla tradition. We both had byes this year, but Fla has ALWAYS had a bye before this game. Heck, Mushamp brought it up his first news conference. I think even Darth Visor thought it was just as big as FSU. Kinda like the Tech game…doesn’t matter the records nor the standings, it’s a big game.

Can we help that Tennessee, Miss St, Ole Miss, and Vandy are all crap teams? Can we help that Florida, Auburn and Kentucky are also crap teams? 7-1 in the SEC is still 7-1 (if we close). Next year is even weaker as we play a non-conference schedule against Florida Atlantic, Buffalo, Georgia Tech, and Georgia Southern. Our pickup game from Miss St will be Alabama, who will be significantly depleated by the departures of Hightower, Chapman, Menzie, Upshaw, Nico Johnson, Darius Hanks, Trent Richardson, Robert Lester, Marquise Maze, WIlliam Vlachos, Dre Kirkpatrick and probably Barrett Jones as well. Alabama will still be ranked (although not as deservingly) and the game is in Tuscaloosa. Other than that, we play the same scrubs as this year. So if we run that table and play LSU in the SECCG, we will be nobodies again. Typical.

The losses to the only 2 ranked teams would mean a lot more had they been recent or separated. This is a team that every expert covering Georgia, both inside and independent, thought would get better as the year went on, so losing the first 2 doesn’t make the same case as you think you are. I think if we had had to play Miss State in week one, we might not have survived it and I think if we could replay either of those first two in Nov., the results would not be the same.

I think that we are going to see the reason why the offense has been playing so conservative over the last 3 games. I think they’ve been saving it for this game in order to prevent FL from preparing for the different offensive attacks. I’m sure FL will have a few plays of their own as well. If we can contain Demps and Rainey from being effective in the run game, we will be okay. That’s providing that the special teams doesn’t have any slip-ups. Blair Walsh could prove to be the difference in this game. I think that it will be a close game.

That’s not really so far fetched. Not sure there has been any planned secrecy, but for certain UGA has not rolled out anything beyond what it took to get to a calculated margin of victory so far. Obviously they have held back somethings, not so much “for Florida” but for when needed. And it wasn’t needed the past few weeks, although I would argue they really havent been that conservative in the past 2 weeks.
Also I am sure every team has things that they feel more comfortable with later in the season after working on it. The bye week would also an obvious factor in adding new wrinkles.

Bhashahahhaha….good lord are there still idigits grinding on with this nonsense. Maybe you fools can ask the SEC to put in a rule which says that UGA only has to count the plays which they like from a game, just imagine how wonderlick your record would be then.
But this isn’t kindergarten so you have to take Murray getting pimped-slapped by the SC DL for a TD, Murray getting pawned for a pick 6 by the SC CB and the defense giving up 140 yds rushing in the last 4th.;
SC made the plays to beat UGA and even throwing everything they could muster at SC, it wasn’t enough for UGA to beat them in your own house.

Our defense will hold them under 20 points (or should)the question is can we score more than 20 with the play calling. That is unknown for now.”
Aaron Murray gave away the South Carolina game ? How about the Florida game LAST YEAR ? What about the Colorado game ? What about the Central Florida game ? How about the South Carolina game LAST YEAR ? How about the Missy State game last year ? Aaron Murray threw 3 interceptions and fumbled the ball vs Florida last year. Aaron Murray threw 2 interceptions vs Central Florida and no touchdowns. Aaron Murray also fumbled the ball vs Central Florida. He threw an interception and fumbled the ball vs Arkansas. He threw an interception and fumbled the ball vs Colorado. I agree Aaron Murray fumbled the ball 3 times vs South Carolina this season and he threw the pick 6, but he has done this from the beginning and continues. He threw an interception in the last game vs Vandie. He threw an interception vs Boise State. He threw 3 interceptions vs Missy State and fumbled the ball twice. He fumbled the ball twice vs Ole Miss. For his career he has 126 carries for 1 yards per rush, yet all these other college quarterbacks all do so much better. Why are we 11-9 with Aaron Murray as the Starting Quarterback and the only Quarterback ever inserted into the line-up every game ? And, all you can do is say he lost us the South Carolina game this year ? For real ? He tries to do too much. He isn’t any good as our Quarterback. He has yet to beat a single team with a winning record. Not 1.

I knew we’d get T.B. belaboring last year; I just knew it.
To think the coaches have been “holding back” is really questionable. Or is that the reason for the oft maligned C.Thomas-up-the-middle play? I know CMR is the antithesis of Steve-RunUpTheScore-Spurrier; but I promise you he doesn’t like down to the wire wins nor ugly wins. Note how CMR and CMB have said quite a few times that they’ve given Murray the whole play book and how he’s always studying films. Believe me, they haven’t held anything back. We’ve tried end arounds and a couple variations on that theme. We’ve even run some spread (a little too often for my blood)…etc etc.
RE: this “weak schedule” thing. Check out the skeds for most top 25 teams; and most former top 25s that are still getting votes. Most, not all. If you looked you’d see that most, not all, play 4 or more “cupcakes”. Heck, even Ala has Kent St, N.Tex, and Ga Southern.

UGA loses on Saturday, but wins the rest, reality is that we end up in some third rate bowl again and I for one, am sick of it. CMR likely would keep his job with that lousy record.
UGA must handle Florida with an injured QB, new coaching staff, weak squad overall or CMR is toast. Period.
Alumni have seen enough over 10. 7 years. Win or else, CMR needs to move on.
UGA class of 71 & 73
Trick plays?

Tampadog…….you asked about when was the sugar bowl in Atlanta……I am disappointed you were unaware that hurricane Kanitra blew up New Orlean and the Super Dome. The NCAA, and the sugar biwl commity moved it to the GEORGIA DOME IN ATLANTA THAT YEAR…….Hey, stay with us. Don’t get lost….

It really is a must win situation for the Dawgs as well as CMR. Fla is not as dominant as they once was and we need to atleast be able to beat them once every 4 years! lol

Murray fate lies in the OL. OL had been on and off all year!1

I like Tom Luginbill. He has S.C. losing to Flawduh and the Dawgs winning out. Thus, he has the Dawgs going to Da Dome.
“…ugab…Murray’s fate lies in the OL…” True, and so does the running game. We gotta run the ball and control the clock.

At least Williams and Geathers will be fresh for the second half they get to play. Alec is back and that will certainly help the midlle. GO DAWGS!

Here is an idea…Crowell and Boykin change jersey numbers so they could be on offfense together at the same time? Any defense would have to account for both of them….dual threat maybe? Any comments?
