NASHVILLE – Georgia’s Marlon Brown said he’s still not 100 percent recovered from the ankle injury that sidelined him for two games. But he proved to be pretty good at 90 percent.
The junior split end from Memphis had a career night in the Bulldogs’ 33-28 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. He finished with a career-best 121 yards on four catches and recorded two touchdowns, including a 75-yarder.
“It was great having Marlon back,” said quarterback Aaron Murray, who registered career highs in attempts (38), completions (22) and yards (326) and threw three touchdowns. “He’s been banged up the last few weeks and still isn’t 100 percnet. He told me before the game he was like 85 or 90 percent and he had a great performance today. Hopefully by Florida he’ll be 100 percent.”
“It feel pretty good right now,” Brown said with a laugh shortly after the game concluded. “But I really can’t take any credit for it. I have to give most of the credit to the offensive line blocking, the running backs blocking and to the quarterback making good throws.”
Brown played only sparingly in the previous two games and none against Coastal Carolina and Ole Miss due to his injury. But he and Michael Bennett were being counted on Saturday to fill in for leading receiver Malcolm Mitchell, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Bennett, who got the start at split end, also had a career night with 7 catches for 89 yards.
But Brown’s 75-yarder proved to be the difference in the game. It came on third-and-10 with 13:57 remaining in the game.
“You live for games like this, close games, hard-fought games,” Brown said. “We just made a few more plays then them and we won.. That’s always good.”
Meanwhile, Murray didn’t care much for talking about his record-setting night.
“We knew it was going to be a battle and we’re just happy to get out of here with a W,” the sophomore quarterback said. “We’ve won five games in a row and we’ve got a lot of work to do still. So that’s all I’m thinking about.”
Busy night for Walsh
It was another up and down night for Georgia kicker Blair Walsh.
On the up side, the senior from Boca Raton, Fla., booted a 53-yard field goal and added successful kicks of 44, 36 and 28 yards. On the down side, he missed two more tries, upping his missed-kick total to eight for the season. He’s 12-of-20 on the season.
I just got off to a slow start. The 20-yarder off the post was just unlucky,” Walsh said. “I came back with a 53-yarder and made three after that so I can’t complain.”
Special teams struggling
It was another tough night for Georgia’s special teams play. The Bulldogs gave up a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, a 43-yard gain on a fake punt on fourth-and-13 at the Vanderbilt 22 and a blocked punt with seven seconds left in the game that could have been disastrous.
“Five SEC wins in a row is good but it’s time for us to get re-focused get our feet back under us and be focused and ready for this Florida game coming up,” said punter Drew Butler, who had two punts for a 46 yard average. “We enough talent on this team where if we just do what we’re supposed to do we shouldn’t have breakdowns like we did tonight.”
On the positive side, Georgia’s Orson Charles also blocked a punt and it led to a Bulldogs’ touchdown.
Etc. . .
Bacarri Rambo hurt his leg at the end of the game but Richt does not believe it to be serious. . . .Georgia’s five-game winning streak is its first since 2007 when it won seven in a row to end that season. The Bulldogs won their first four in 2008 for an 11-game streak. . . .
Brandon Boykin ran a play as the quarterback in the “Wild Dog” formation in the first quarter. He was tackled for no gain on the play. . . . Rambo, Boykin and Shawn Williams each had interceptions. . . . Vanderbilt’s kickoff return for touchdown was the first Georgia has allowed since Auburn’s Demond Washington in 2009. . . .

ok, so here’s my take – although this game was extremely painful to watch and altogether unenjoyable, you gotta think that maybe it’s good that the dawgs almost got beat tonight. because that will hopefully make them realize that they have to work a helluva lot harder to win out the rest of the year…and with the week off, maybe it can help them refocus?

Two things:
-I hope this game will serve as a wake up call to the Dawgs. Just because the Crockodiles are down this year doesn’t mean we should expect to win that game in J’ville.
-When Mark Richt decides to leave UGA, I hope Grantham is given a chance to be the head coach. He’s got that fire!

“Just like at the end of a play. When a play’s over, it’s over. Go to the sideline. We didn’t do a very good job of that at times. Tempers do get flared up. I don’t mind our blood getting hot but we have to be able to get excited or maybe even angry but not foul.”
I read Todd Grantham’s lips saying clearly “That is B.S.” He wanted a piece of James Franklin who is an offensive coordinator quarterbacks’ coach at Kansas State and Maryland – not exactly a stellar background, now is it ? After Gus Malzahn turned down the Vandie job, along with everyone else, he backed into the job. He has not beat anyone. His Vandie offense is # 116 in the nation and his defense is not in the Top 25, either. He nearly beat us; what does that tell you ? Our net punting is # 85 in the nation. Our punt returns are # 66 in the nation. Our kick-off returns are # 40 in the nation. Mark Richt thinks he does not need special teams’ coaching, right and can use all walk-ons, right. Our QB is # 70 worst in the nation at being sacked. And, we are for good measure # 48 in the nation at sacking opposing quarterbacks. Our head coach continues to blame everyone on his own team for what happens as the storyline of the game : today it was the melee at the end of the game about the dirty play of Vandie throughout. Well, that and Mark Richt settling for 6 field goals against a cupcake – I guess we blame that on Aaron Murray who is now # 71 in the nation at 3rd Down Conversions. Isaiah Crowell had double-digit carries for 3.5 yards per rush, in yet another attempt by Mark Richt to hide a SUSPENSION this year. Look Mark Richt, that was CUPCAKE and your coaching and not backing up your players, which is legendary now, as about the sloppiest football game I can ever recall seeing. You’re fortunate that with their wide receiver wide open in the right corner of the end zone on the final play, that your defense hit Jordan Rodgers’ arm as he threw – otherwise you lose your job with those post-game comments – you wuss.

After watching the last few minutes of each of the last 4 SEC victories, I need a week off. At times watching UGA is very painful. To paraphase Dickens,”these are the best of times and the worst of times”. UGA has shown flashes of good play and some down right ugly play.
Samuels…must have played his heart out and you cannot help but love the guy’s efforts, but he is a straight line runner. It’s painful to watch him run for negative yards.
Why with 7 seconds left in the game,4th down and Vandy with no time outs remaining, UGA attempts a punt?
Why not let Murray or somebody with good hands run around for 7 seconds? If the ball carrier hangs on to the ball, these is no way Vandy could run an offensive play in less than 7 seconds. So you attempt a punt and give Vandy another opportunity to score. So much for 20-20 hindsight.

This is another example of poor coaching!!! This game was way too close and it should have been over at halftime!!! No killer instinct EVER!!! The reason we are not a great team is we never put anybody away early so we never get our backups in the game. So when a new year starts we have no game experience. You want your guys too play hard then coach like Grantham and stick up for your players!!! Richt is just too laid back!!! My worst fears for this season looks like it will come true!!! Richt wins enough games to keep his job!!! But as long as Richt is here i am sad to say we will never win another championship!!! For all you guys that want to keep him just remember Auburn fired Tubberville and he won them a national championship and had a good record also. But they was smart enough to see that they had come complacent!!! I think that turned out for them ok!!!

Bacarri Rambo intercepts the football with 1 minute 20 seconds to go and 30 yards of open field before he has to knee the football, with Vandie having 2 time-outs only. 1st Down. Substitution PENALTY – our 11th Penalty in the game leaving us # 85 in the nation in penalties this season, none worse than this 1. 1st and 15, now, Richard Samuel sideways for minus yards. 1st of 2 time-outs. 2nd and 17 now, Richard Samuel sideways for minus yards. 2nd of 2 time-outs called. 3rd Down and 21 yards to go, Richard Samuel straight forward – wow, who thought up that play call for his coachless OFFENSE ? Time-out UGA 15 seconds 4th Down at our own 45, having started this “drive to win the game with these Offensive Geniuses calling this offense and our Starting QB not checking out of them or if he did, to these wondrous plays on Offense yet again.” Walk-ons nothing but walk-ons on the Punt Team and the nation’s best punter, who should be kicking field goals too as he will be doing in the NFL for the next 15 years, has the snap to him and # 11 walk-on Connor Norman just stands there on the edge all 5′ 9″ of him from Peachtree Ridge the year before last, and lets the Vandie defender blow by him. Turns around like well I don’t have anything I can do now. Just stands there, the walk-on. Probably 1 of the walk-ons given a Scholarship by Mark Richt with his 29 players who should have been playing last night and did not, who are just GONE, opening up these – aren’t these great stories about all our walk-ons getting Full Scholarship – replacements for the Good Riddance 4 and 5-Star players they replace on Scholarship for the 29 GONE. Connor Norman # 11 just stands there. Knowing full well he just gave Drew Butler a blocked punt, and instead of turning to go after the ball with 7 seconds remaining – leaves it to just only Drew Butler to save the day, as Drew Butler dives like a wild man into the pile and stops Vandie from winning the game. Connor Norman. No, we are not running out 15 seconds, but we MOST ASSUREDLY have our OFFENSE once again to thank for these awesome play calls with our CUPCAKE opponent having only 2 time-outs and us with the ball having kneed it at the Vandie 48 with 1:20 and called THESE PLAYS and penalties, or checked off to the them at the line. Just awesome offense, fantastic, won 5 games in a row and 6 more cupcakes to go including our cupcake bowl opponent for the 11th time in dispirited from birth Mark Richt’s tenure. Oh we’re great.

Thomas Brown…..although your hindsight observations are interesting and somewhat accurate. Gues wha? THERE’S ANOTHER TEAM ON THE FIELD DOING ALL IT CAN TO BEAT US AND KEEP US FROM US FROM MAKING THE PERFECT DECISION AND PERFECT PLAY EVERY TIME! You are a moron. Yeah, the 18-20 yr. olds don’t always do what we want. Yeah, sometimes the opposing coaches earn their pay and make strategic decisions that thwart ours. Yeah, it’s disappointing to see us lose the Special Teams battle game after game. But, that is why you play the game on the field and not on a computer. Things happen in the heat of battle that you can’t always control. Reading stats and watching replays of games is a cop-out.

UGA is the worst coached team in the SEC. Hell now Vandy’s coaches can out coach them. The sad thing is this McGarity puppet will do what Adams wants and after UGA goes 7-5 he will allow Richt and this ovepaid coaching staff to perform it’s mediocrity for 3 or 4 more years. Congrats Richt, you have proven once again that you can’t outcoach anyone in the SEC, not even a first year head coach at Vandy. UGA had the worst game plan i’ve ever seen. The Vandy defensive and Offensive lines dominated UGA’s fat ass linemen. For Vandy to rush for 200 yards is a joke, and for Vandy to score 28 points shows that this UGA defense is a joke, and it had good numbers against 4 terrible offenses. This Vandy team had not scored a t.d in 2 games, yet it runs over UGA’s defense and scores 28 points. Florida and Auburn will embarrass this defense, and tech will run for 500 yards again. But UGA fans, you can celebrate the fact that your wonderful A.D. will renew Richt’s contract and keep this mindless head coach around for more ass whippings by the 7 SEC teams that have passed UGA the past 3 years. One last thing, how many times does this pathetic coaching staff watch as another team fakes a DAMN punt on them. That is all anyone needs to know about this inept coaching staff, that and 11 penalties, my GOD, the nightmare will continue in Jax. in 2 weeks, and go on and on for 3 or 4 more years. UGA is geting what it deserves, the worst coaching staff in the SEC

My only Q of Thomas Brown was the Crowell situation – if he violated a team rule and got benched for the 1st qtr., that’s news to me. I think his wrist injury had more to do with his PT, otherwise we would have seen him late (because you are right, Samuel can’t run off tackle and turn the corner). Like Mitchell, Richt wants him healthy for Florida. Otherwise, good post, dove tails well with Drew Butler’s comments which were, essentially, special teams guys were blowing assignments.
I can’t believe we fell for another fake punt, especially in light of the fact their 2 punters both stink. We should have been looking for that at any position on the field. Coaching.
They chop and cut blocked our big boys all night which is why Geathers threw a punch and Grantham had some words for their coach. If you taped the game go back and watch some of their running plays. I agree with posts re: CMR has to have Grantham’s back in that situation. “We have to act like grown men.” Please. Make your players want to run through a wall for you, Coach.

UGA under Dr. Adams, has the goal of being a U of North Carolina. They do enjoy sprestige academically all over the USA. To some extent, UGA for many years has too, but on a much lesser scale. We can argue on and on but UGA within the SEC is a top drawer school, along with Florida and Vandy. Kids do desire to attend UGA from all over the nation BUT NOT like UNC has enjoyed for most of my 63 years …………..NC does enjoy that academic prestige and THAT is what Adams really wants for UGA. Dr. Knapp started UGA on this course about 25+ years ago, when he was UGA President after Dr. Davidson.
Under Adams, football is a sport that can raise some MEGA money from. He much prefers basketball ( like at UNC ) to be the dominant sport. Look at how he got so involved in hiring that Jim and Jim Harrick Jr. clown crew a few years back.
If the UGA Athletic Advisory Board deems it necessay to dump CMR, then it will be done. Adams does not want to offend the big money contributors. 8-4 season with losses to Boise, SC and say to Florida and AU or to Florida and GT? CMR will be gone. Right now at best CMR is on the firing line. Right now and last night was bad for him in MANY ways.
CMR now must run the tbale to survive. Last night caused those deep down in the belly rumblings for us UGA alumni. CMR must win vs Florida and all the rest for him to keep his job and LAND UGA IN A NY Day Bowl. Period. End of story.

I agree with the earlier comments, hopefully this game will provide lots of things to think about and improve on before heading the Jacksonville. This was a game that we played without Malcolm Mitchell and essentially without Isaiah Crowell, not to mention Cornelius Washington, and we still found a way to win despite being exhausted. It’s better to have things to work on in the off week then be too confident heading to a game where we always struggle. Let’s go dawgs!!! Keep working hard!

I can’t wait to see how the Grantham thing plays out. One thing is for sure, it is disturbing that Richt’s immediate reaction is to worry about decorum instead of defending his coach and players at least until he could gather more complete information. How do you think the players are going to feel (especially the defense) if Grantham is defending them against direct verbal attacks from the opposing head coach and their head coach verbally “spanks” the guy that is defending them?
I hate to say it, but Richt is losing me. Maybe I’m wrong and this is all on Grantham. It doesn’t appear to be but we’ll see.

Not the first time UGa has gone to vandy and had a gight on its hands, Hats off to Vandy for doing a good , job but why you people think one coach does something well he is out coaching another coach. Vandys fake punt was a good play, hats off to them, A win is a win and at the end of tthe year no one will care what the score was. And @ a couple of comments Mark Richt will be a t UGA next year unless he decides to go somewhere else, your speculation has no basis in fact. I think you and Thomas the “We suck even though we are winning” Brown are the same person. Go to the Tech boards and moan over a team that actually lost a game – we’re winning and a win is a win. Vandy is not a doormat – they were undefeated at home, have a new coach and were pulling out all of the stops to get a win. They had nothing to lose. We were on the road for the 3rd time in 4 weeks and all of those wins were SEC games – no mean feat. We played without Malcolm Mitchell, Crowell was not allowed to play much for whatever reason and several key defensive players are still out. We were sloppy and Vandy was motivated – a combinationn that usually results in a loss but we overcame all of that and yanked out a win. It’s amazing how so many supposed fans on this board bi##h and moan after a win as much or more than a loss! 5 WINS IN A ROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1953dawg….Of course Vandy’s coaches are so stupid that they did nothing to correct their mistakes and weaknesses from the games against their previous opponents. And of course, they changed nothing in their blocking schemes to face our 3-4 defense. They changed nothing to attempt to improve their running game. ( Sarcasm now finished ) Actually, they had a pretty good scheme, and added to their blocking style ( similar to the “cut” blocking used at Denver and at Georgia Tech ), their backs had some pretty good holes. I am glad that we faced that type of blocking, because we will see plenty of it in the last regular season game.
SiddyBoy…you are partially right, but why were we in a formation with only one “protector” when our usual protection scheme has 3 of them? I think that is the question. Did we not think they were going to try to block the punt? Did we think they were going to try to have a great return?
This win required some luck to overcome the players’ and coaches’ mistakes.

Every team has bad games. Even Bama, LSU, Florida, Auburn, and South Carolina, if you look back at everyone of the Championship seasons of Bama, LSU, Florida, and Auburn, they all had bad games against teams that they were suppose to blow out, winning is what counts, even when its an ugly win, what’s different this year, is they are winning those games, not like last year, in which we would have lost these games. I can live with a ugly win, better than a ugly loss.

I really don’t see what the big deal is. People need to get over this idea that we’re just going to blow Vandy out of the stadium every time we play them. We go through this every year when we don’t beat them by 6 touchdowns. Everybody pushes the panic button. We’re not Bama or LSU. I’m not at all surprised how it went last night. We’ve been winning sloppy from the get go this year. Vandy had a good game plan and we’re a little dinged up after a 7 game stretch without a break. We’re going to get healthy for Florida. I know its Florida and we will probably lose, but they are not very good this year and its a very winnable game. Relax.
We barely beat Vandy in 2007 and went to the Sugar Bowl. We beat them 43-0 last year and went down a toilet bowl. A win over Vandy is a win these days. This really isn’t the Vandy of the 90’s that would pull a groin in warmups.
Relax.

@dawgfan – good point. In fact in that 2007 game, Vandy fumbled while going in for the winning score. That was against a UGA team that won the East and won the Sugar Bowl convincingly. One must take the negative comments, including many of those yours truly has made, with a grain of salt. We didn’t play great last night. Vandy clearly played an inspired game at home. Yet we won. While this game was extremely ugly to watch (I think the receivers would be our lone bright spot), the fact is we won. I wouldn’t truly call it a win, more like a lucky escape but all that shows up is the W.
Special teams need some serious work. If we can get healthy enough and lay off the stupid and disgusting cheap penalties, then maybe we can get back to where we were. I still do not understand how they were able to gain 200 yards of rushing offense against this defense from the past four games. The coaching staff did not do a good job of preparing this week. I’m looking forward to the off week.

I think Thomas Brown is right ON the money! Also, Bug Killer, Jeff Schultz alluded that IC missed the 1Q due to some academic infraction (e.g. missed a class or tutoring session ??, and if you review CMR’s tongue in cheek comments at the halftime interview about IC being out and him answering “it is because I love him” with a wry smile on his face, one can only deduce that something happened during the week and CMR was making an example of IC. I do agree with you though that his wrist must more banged up than being reported with the PT he got. Maybe, the staff was afraid he could not hold onto the ball securely with the wrist issue?

When Boykin comes in in the reddog formation, isn’t it kind of obvious that he is going to run it? Who does Bobo expect to fool on that play when he only does it once every other game or so. The Vanderbilt coach was very creative last night. Bobo does not have a creative bone in him. He is too predictable. He has to go.

Man, that was a close game that made my stomach hurt in the end. At the end of the game I was left scratching my head over so many of our offensive play calls that I started to consider Bobo may have taken some acid right before the game. Special teams needs help, but they know that. I think we all need to realize that 4 of the best 5 players on our team all our true freshman and they all came to Georgia to play under Mark Richt. Further, we got some really good 4 and 5 stars looking our way that have publicly declared they are out if Richt leaves. He is building a team but a young team is going to make stupid mistakes and then look absolutely brilliant on the next play. Give them time and a couple of years and we are going to be real special. I think so many of us will be back on the Richt bandwagon by then. Thanks Richt and GOOOOO DAWGS!!!!!!!

You gotta love Richard Samuels for his unselfish attitude of team first; but if I see BOBO call another play that involves Samuels running laterally instead of straight into (hopefully) a hole between the guards, I think I will have a stroke. He is not a lateral runner. If you want him to carry the ball, point his arse north or south and turn him loose.

I believe that Coach Richt is a very good human being…..but he is paid a lot pf money to win football games. I can find no reason to support what is happening in Athens at the moment. I watch LSU and Bama and I see UGA as a very poorly coached football team. Give the Vandy kids credit they played hard. Their coach gets the most out of them. If you were a big time recruit in the state of Georgia why on earth would you go to UGA?? You will not receive the coaching you are looking for, go to Bama or LSU or maybe Vandy??? Our new AD has to address these issues asap!!

I’ve seen a couple people say, in defense of this staff, “We are not Bama or LSU.”
Exactly. That’s the point. In a state with more football talent than Alabama or LSU, with comparable resources at all levels, we cannot compete with Bama or LSU.
If you find that acceptable, you have a loser’s mentality. UGA can and should be better than this – than all the sloppy efforts this year against sub-par teams.

Richard Samuels played very well despite having to play through pain most of the game. We couldn’t have asked any more out of him.
Isaiah Crowell; I know he was is playing hurt, too, and has the break-away speed to gain some good yardage through open holes, but as consistent pound it up the middle runner, I’m not so sure he can do that.
We need a good compliment to Isaiah.
Keith Marshall, we need you. Hope you see that need and choose to play for UGA. .. Go Dawgs!

In preparation for the Florida game, I hope:
- our players can all heal up these next two weeks and stay healthy and injury-free during practice;
- stay focused and out of off-the-field issues where they can all practice and play;
- put all our Vandy poor performance issues behind us and resolve our ST’s play; and
- develop a good game plan for UF and execute it on the field of play.
If we do those things, we should beat the Gators.
Would be a nice and necessary win for UGA. ..
Go Dawgs!

jp @ 3:22, my recall is this. UGA has great field position and the football. A little over a minute left in the game. After 3 plays, and lost yardage, UGa is faced with a 4th down. Vandy has no time outs remaining. The game clock is down to 7 seconds. The decision how to eliminate the 7 seconds without giving Vandy a opportunity to score. UGA attempts a punt, which is blocked, Vandy recovers the ball and would have scored and won the game were it not for Bulter’s tackle. This is my recall and I’m sticking with it.

Georgia’s playing like the Falcons. Is there a possible way to look twice into your dimented “Special Teams” that looked atrocious against a seemingly easy competitor? wHO THE HECK IS SENDING CHEERLEADERS IN DRAG on special teams?
If it isnt the OL one week then its another. Is Georgia being cheap and not hiring a Special Teams Coach? That alone can cost you 2 games a year.
Now the field goal kicker is having panic attacks everytime he gets ready to make a kick. Do that against Florida and youve got major problems cause theyre FAST! Watching Georgia play SATURDAY was crazy, i mean Vanderbilt ran over those front defensive linemen. You best believe that Florida is gonna get those tapes and expose Georgia’s Front Four.
Im not sure what Grantham is teaching during the week but it seemed like Georgia was only focusing on the pass. Dont need more Dr. Jekyl Mr. Hyde week to week, this team has got to put things together and improve weekly.
You’ve had your fun and now things are gonna tighten up with Florida, Auburn and Ga. Tech next 4 games. You might have put 5 wins in a row but those were sub par teams and the next 3 of 4 teams are above average teams such as Tech and we’ll see what youre made of.

I really do believe Mark Richt is bout the money more than winning this past 3 seasons. He allowed an un-proven whiney Mike Bobo to slot right in to Offensive Coordinator spot because he didnt want to spend the money and took a gamble.
At Best, At the Very Best……. Bobo should be coaching in the Div2-A league. Richt should just go and get the equipment Mgr. and ask him to coach Special Teams. Seriously…. i mean if youre gonna give up points on special teams why not appoint someone that you can point your finger at.
Richt in all seriousness should give back 1 million dollars of his money for bad performances. Are they that under staffed that they have no time for developement?
Attitude is Latitude and it starts there. Richt couldnt motivate a dog to chase a cat muchless get players up like Spurrier does a S. Carolina.
Sorry folks but Mark Richt has lost his Mojo and im afraid these next few weeks will propell people to ask that Georgia fire him and his band of gringos.

The lack of discipline, sportsmanship, and leadership from both players and coaches has really become a distraction. Under Richt, it appears that the football program at UGA has become a NFL wannabe program, NOTHING TO DO WITH GETTING A DEGREE WHERE THE PLAYERS WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO FALL BACK ON WHEN THEY CAN NO LONGER PLAY — like … at age 35!!
Would be interesting to see the graduation rates of Richt’s players, and the academic disciplines they pursue. This program is in dire need of leadership — which is sorely lacking under Richt!

If Murray doesn’t self destruct against Florida we win. Last year if Murray doesn’t turn the ball over we would have easily won the game. It’s just like this years game against South Carolina if Murray doesn’t turn the ball over we win the game by 2 touchdowns.
The defense has been great since the Boise State game except the second half of the Vanderbilt game. With it at full strength for the Florida game hopefully they can shut Florida’s offense completely down like Auburn did.So the key to win or losing will be Murray’s ability to play in the state of Florida without making any mistakes.

Vandy was what could certainly ended up a trap game. Vandy was hungry for an SEC win against a team better than Ole Miss. They were up and lying in wait for this game and they almost pulled it off. They didn’t but Richt convinced nobody that he isn’t asleep at the wheel. The game should have been a rout. Georgia has so much more than Vandy in all aspects. This game could have easily been yet another catastrophe but, it wasn’t.
Get the bad taste out of your mouths and the numbness out of your heads Dawg fans. A winning season is often fraught with such victories. History indicates we are in for a let down. If Saturday’s performance is any indication, we are. Coach, something is amiss. Find our killer instinct please

I have questions! Why are we still not kicking the ball out of the endzone? We have done it several times in Athens. I do not trust a bunch of non starters on kick off coverage! The good teams have their star players on kick offs too. Why is MR playing so soft with a small lead? If we need a 1st down to close the game away, MR should throw the darn ball. bobo. A safe throw. Bobo just runs it up the middle with all 11 defensive players in the box. ?????? WHY DID THE DAWGS CHANGE THEIR PUNTING FORMATION? THEY TOOK THE 3 PLAYERS WHO USUALLY PROTECT THE PUNTER AND PUT THEM ON THE LINE.? MR made changes this year. MR has to get a special teams coach. How many years have our special teams been killing us? I believe we can be great. I believe we are young in certain places. We do have upper classmen on the team also. We need a some changes on special teams. We need a DL coach. MR has to learn to keep scoring. Put them away. We will lose to Fl. We are not playing good enough to beat Fl. They will have speedsters on kick off. Fl will run trick plays!!! Why is MR not running trick plays? No class at all at the end of the game.

There is no reason that Richt would have to do anything on the “cheap” Grantham is paid what, 500K- 1 mil? One of the many shinning stars at UGA is we have the money to do anything we please. Thus, we can pay a losing coach 3 mil a year. No, it isn’t about money, it’s all ego

ugab, Grantham should be the DL line coach. He was pretty darn good with the Cowboys. Good for him for standing up for what he believes is right. Regarding the language that is just football. He was wrong for addressing the fans in that manner but on the field the language has been harsh for years. This PC crap is getting old. Good for Grantham IMO. Finally somebody that shows some fire on the sidelines.

Okay–a couple of things:
Every team should try a fake punt against us at least once a game. For some reason we almost never pressure the punter and try to set up the return. We used to set up the “return” even with Logan Gray who, as everyone in the stadium knew, was going to fair catch. The ultimate irony, because of our great athletes, we have an incredible high percentage of blocks the few times we try to block the kick. Incredibly high percentage. And we all know how a blocked can set the tone in a game. Put pressure on the kicker every time and this would also stop the rugby kicks that the opponents are using so effectively against us because they have so much time to punt.
Richard Samuel is not a tail back. He’s a great kid, bright and strong but simply not a running back. He’s proven that over and over. Let’ s stop that charade.
Crowell has great talent, but something’s missing. How can you be that out of shape? Also, think he missing the “eye of the tiger,” clearly not a tough guy. If he gets his head on right, he’ll be a great one.
Finally, let me join the chorus. We are never going to be a great team as long as Bobo is OC. Take that to the bank. How can a guy so young be so vanilla, so predictable, so bland? When you look around the SEC and other conferences and see what innovations other OCs are doing with their play calling and then watch Bobo’s calls, you can see that he is simply a mediocre game planner and incapable of making instant adjustments during a game. Sorry, that’s just the way it is and CMR will be on that hot seat as long as he sticks with Bobo.
Finally, hats off to Grantham. He’s got the D playing really well and they are actually showning some swagger on the field. That’s what we’ve been missing the last few years. CMR is so mild and Bobo so vanilla, our guys have lost their swagger. Grantham has instilled a spirit on the D which is missing with the rest of the team.

Abe, I agree with that last paragraph. When Geathers got clipped the ref’s evidently thought that a punch was justified or they would have thrown him out of the game right then and there. The only way that #60 ends up under Geathers is if he was going for the knees. They didn’t show the clip or chop block but it must have been a nasty one. I noticed that the Vandy coach didn’t say anything to his player about it.

UGA looks far from a finished product – but we are winning the games we are supposed to win.
Next up is Florida!!!!
UGA could absolutely run the table.
Florida is suspect – has QB issues that may not be resolved before the UGA game.
Auburn is impressive in that they are finding ways to win – but look as suspect as UGA and Florida.
UGA is right there with them – the winner of the Auburn/Florida/ UGA sweepstakes will be the KING of the Mediocres!!!!

Good job of these kids stepping up when they are called upon.
I read some of these posts and some of you folks must have joysticks in your hands. You think plays should be run to perfection yet there are a bunch of 18-21 year olds running around out there, many who are unproven freshmen. If you watch Alabama or LSU they make plenty of mistakes and have blown plays on their side all the time, but since they are VERY good teams with 5 Star players at every position, they make up for it during other plays in the game, mostly by taking advantage of the opponents’ mistakes. Some of you with this video game mentality have probably never played football at the college level or even performed a serious “team” task in your life. Grip…get one.
And you Georgia Tick fans on this blog….VIRGINIA called, they want you to come back to Charlottesville and clean up your wet spot.

win p it was 15 seconds remember after the punt was blocked vandy had 7 seconds left on the clock.and ran 2 plays. we changed protections ( which we should not have done) should have kept the swinging gate with 3 blockers back in case some one breaks through. You teach the backs to lie or lay if you wish ,on the ground for a few more seconds on the last play and maybe murray can throw to the end zone with 6 0r 7 seconds and end the game
