This Vandy team, although void of a ton of talent, is full of “belief’ from their coach they can beat somebody. Richt better put the hammer down on these guys. I believe Bama only had them by 7 heading toward the end of the first half AT Bama. They will HIT back also.

SC is heavy favortie. Gators are 2nd most likely since they always beat Richt. UGA is 3rd most likely in SEC East.
Look for UGA to lose to all the good teams left, Auburn, Florida, Tech.

In a year that the East has never been so weak…..it would be embarrassing to fail to win it. That said, it’s just not smart to look ahead. Ga has failed to put 4 qtrs together this season, has keep much inferior teams in the game til late…… I think it is better to think about just putting together 1 full game and let the season take care of itself.

King Tony- Murray may have went 6-7 w/ Greene & Durham, but AJ missed 4 games do to suspension. So, it’s not like he even really had Greene for the whole season, remember? Oh, & I believe Durham had some injuries & had to miss some time as well. People say every week that UGA is going to lose & they haven’t the last 4 wks. Then when they win everyone says the teams they beat just aren’t any good. At least they’re beating who they’re supposed to beat, which is more than they did last yr. The defense & running game are much better this yr. I know they haven’t put together a complete game yet, but they usually start the season slow, & play better later in the yr. I believe they have a chance to put it together & have a pretty good team.

I don’t believe Texas has beaten a ranked team in a while either so every team goes through cycles. I personally like what I see from this UGA team. “Prohibitive favorites?”
Did I miss something? The Dawgs have already lost head-to-head to South Carolina, and have yet to play Florida. Divisional ties are broken by head-to-head wins. The Dawgs have to beat Florida (for the fourth time in the last 22 tries), and hope for some third-party help against South Carolina.

KingTony- I know hat you’re saying, but if you’re going to argue that he couldn’t even win w/ those 2 receivers, then I’km just saying that it’s not like he even had Green for a good part of the season. He’s still a young QB, & he hasn’t had the best O-Line, & the receivers are young this yr. It’s kind of hard for the QB to win sometimes when they haven’t always had the best team. Sometimes the other team is just better. I’m sure he’ll beat a ranked team eventually. Don’t bury him yet.

The brough a lot of corner and safety blitzes that we picked up and were able to hurt them passing so I expect Murray to have a nice day passing. I was surprised at the Rogers kid ability. Not Complacent is right, we don’t need to be doin’ any ‘big-doggin’ so long as South Carolina has the win against us. All any of the three, GA/SC/FL, have to do is ‘win out’ their remaining SEC games and they’ll be the SEC East champs, and South Carolina, with the new, apparently effective, QB, Shaw, clearly has the most overall talent. Sure they’ve got to beat Florida and Arkansas, but we’ve got to beat FL and AU, so to me it’s a toss-up at best.
Meanwhile, and since there doesn’t appear to be anybody around to ‘blog’ about Georgia basketball, wonder how Leslie and Thompkins feel about their decision to ‘jump-ship’ a season early now? In fact, wonder how the NCAA, given the mess that is the NBA, would feel about allowing any ‘early departees’ to return for their final year of eligibility – assuming they give back any money they’ve received from teams or agents – doubt it. Plus who knows if there’s even scholarships available for ‘em?

Expect Vandy to play as hard against GA’s offense. D is the strength of their team. Dawgs cannot be too over confident and take commodores seriously. AL wore them down in the 2d half and Ga has the weapons to do the same. Get them tired and take control of the game and don’t let up.

UGA clearly has more talent but Vandy will play smart and hard. Vandy has about 20 players on the roster from the state of Georgia and Coach James Franklin will have his team motivated and ready. Throw out the 2 games against Ala and Sc (and last years rout in Athens); this will be a close game. I fully expect vandy to keep this game close and in in a position to possibly win especially if qb Jordan Rogers plays well. This coaching staff is nothing like the previous Vandy staff(s). UGA fans should be careful to not dismiss this vandy team. If the Vandy O-line plays well, then they will beat UGA. Surprised that so many UGA fans are expecting a UGA rout. Vandy is anxious to win a “statement game” and this could be it; and would also throw a wrench into the SEC east race. UGA better be ready for a very good Vandy defense. UGA fans should stop expecting to rest thier starters by halftime. The key will be Vandy O-line vs the UGA defensive line. Go Does !

Here is the prohibitive favorite likely REAL WORLD scenario. UGA loses most likely to FL, SC beats MSU and Tenn and goes to Arkansas with the game meaning nothing (just like last year) and loses. All 3 teams have 2 losses. East is decided Nov 12th when FL visits columbia. Ga will have lost to both SC and FL and will be irrelevant. Next likely scenario has UGA beating FL but losing to Auburn while SC secures East with win over Florida. One thing of sure, UGA will be outcoached the next 2 games (excuse me, next 3 out of 4 w/Chezik and company visiting Athens), with high energy coming from both opponents benches. Vandy is undefeated at home. UGA will not win all of remaining conference games. East was decided on Sept 10th.

The problem with this is that Georgia never wins anything unless its a down year in the SEC east. Unlike programs like Florida, LSU, etc., these programs have very bad years from time to time, but then emerge as one of the best in the country and win national championships. Georgia stays the same year in and year out (average), so in bad years they emerge as top dog in the east. Then in good years (for the rest of the sec east)they end up 6-7. This won’t change anytime soon under the current coach. Georgia was only relevant before because the rest of the SEC sucked. It pains me much to say this, but I guess our glory days will always reside in the down years of other programs.

How in the world can Georgia be a “prohibitive favorite” to win the East, which in reality means they have to WIN OUT in the SEC (Fla/ Auburn/ as well as Vandy, Ky) AND have S. Carolina lose again, since they own the tiebreaker? At best, Ga. is “hopeful” to win the SEC East – and we are obviously extremely lucky to miss out playing Bama, LSU, and “the Quitter”(Petrino-Ark) GoDawgs

“ ‘You can stop defending a guy with an 0-9 record against winning teams.’ ”
“I haven’t defended Murray. I’ve corrected your factual inaccuracies.”
Then, you do not defend the fact that Aaron Murray threw 19 of his 24 TD passes last season vs 9 teams all of whom had a losing record, and threw only 5 TD passes vs the 5 teams who ended up Top 25 ranked teams he played last year, and has yet to beat a team this season who will end up in the Top 25 either ? That he is the dead last worst in the nation at converting 3rd Down Conversions last year, and has actually done even worse this year ? That he averages 1 yards per carry his entire career, and he has been here on campus since December 2008, while all these other college quarterbacks are doing so much better than he at a lot more than 1 yards a carry for their careers ? That he ran to his Twitter National Account prior to the Boise State game, and bragged pre-game that he was heading down to the Dome that moment to go kick him some a** ? Just what is it that you are not defending ?

He is no spring chicken. He throws behind his receivers. He gets sacked. He says he doesn’t care. He makes his worst mistakes at the worst possible moment. He is not close to being the best QB in The SEC as all your bragged to me and you know it. You know (1) that you told me he was. (2) that I said he was not. (3) that now you know he is not. How can we be the favorite when S Carolina controls it’s own destiny? Everyone says we have a easier schedule, but I don’t see that much difference. We have Vandy, Kentucky, Florida, and Auburn. South Carolina has Mississipi State, Tennessee, Florida, and Arkansas. South Carolina could win them all, but I admit Arkansas will be a test. But, UGA will have their hands full with Auburn, and Florida always give us trouble. UGA will have to win them all and South Carolina will have to lose one. Could happen, but I sure don’t buy into the “we’re the favorite” crap.

I do not think that Richt will let the team suffer for one player to keep his playing time, IF there is a better alternative on the bench. You forget that the Dawgs had AWFUL pass protection last year, plain and simple. It doesn’t explain all of Murray’s int’s but it doesn’t help either. Even Stafford had a lack-luster year in 2008 when our 0-line was killed with injuries.
Let’s just sit back and watch what happens. In the end, we have no control over it anyway and no manner of railing on a 19 year old will change that.

Folks, for all of you that are mad at King Tony, Murray cannot for his own life hit an open receiver, downfield, on a regular basis. We should have beaten TN by 3 more touchdowns. He throws too many interceptions, and loses his cool when he gets regular pressure. By the way, I am a UGA fan, who is a realistist. UGA will only go so far with Murray. Mason needs to be given some play time. Murray has regressed this year, and was only at times impressive last year. Yes, I have watched the same games you have. When you look at the tenn fla game every time the vols passed the ball down field the gators had to pull or hold the receiver almost like they were coached to do it. If they played real ball that game may of had a different turn out not saying the vols would have won but much closer. I believe fla had 6 pass interference calls in that game.

How can a team led by a leader Quarterback who never takes charge win The SEC ?
Heck, he sends Twitter Tweets to opponents before the games telling them how he is going to kick some a**.
He lets the rookie RB jaw at opponents and never says a thing to him. Nothing.
He checks off at the line to his own number.

“Prohibitive” is totally the wrong word here…a favorite, maybe, but not the “prohibitive” favorite. SC is still the favorite, because they have to lose an SEC game at least once more for UGA to go (providing UGA doesn’t lose another SEC game)….SC is in the driver’s seat for now, unfortunately. King Toney: Ok guys, I think we need to look at things in a different view. King Toney sounds like to me that he is a passionate Georgia fan who wants us to win. He is just pointing out what he sees as Murray’s weaknesses. You have got to admit: Murray missed some wide open receivers in the MSU game — or were we watching two different games? I like Murray, but he did miss some receivers who were open. Instead of putting the beat-down on Toney and being so defensive, appreciate the fact that like me, he just wants what is best for UGA football. I think Bobo is a decent at best OC — he is great as a QB coach — but we will NEVER win a SEC championship with Bobo as the OC. Richt has hried the right defensive coaches….he needs to get rid of some of his offensive coaches.

1. Can’t see how UGA’s remaining schedule is really any easier than South Carolina’s. Plus, SC has already whooped up on UGA due to incompetent coaching…
2. UGA is handicapped the rest of the season with two major problems and one minor problem.
The two major problems are Richt and Bobo. The minor problem is Murray. He isn’t walking the talk.
3. Florida, even in a down year, regularly beats down UGA. If your kid is a student at UGA, the Dawgs have only beaten UF once or twice since he was born. Florida fans look at UGA like UGA looks at Vanderbilt.
4. My how far we have fallen… Look at all the concerned blogs fretting about how Vanderbilt might actually beat UGA. It is very possible because the Vandy coaches are competent where ours are not; and also the Vandy players are MUCH smarter than the UGA players. Brains wins football games.
5. I have noticed that ‘troll” is a word in vogue by those UGA losers who are constantly defending Preacha Man Marjoe Markt Richt. If you see that word, just scroll down to the next intelligent blog.

The UGA Bulldogs may be the prohibitive favorites to Win the East Now! However in the big picture( not playing LSU, Alabama, Arkansas) where does that really put UGA in the pecking order?
The truth of the story is that any team that plays a team after LSU or Alabama is given a distinct advantage as both defenses have for 3 straight weeks knocked key players out of games for their next opponent.
The facts are is the UGA Bulldogs( no fault of their own) are reaping the benefits of one of the easiest schedules of any BCS conference team.

South Carolina’s schedule is pretty favorable down the stretch. They might lose to Arkansas, but I just don’t see them losing to UT and Florida, and one of those losses would have to happen for the Dawgs to get into the title game. Dawgs should beat a lousy Florida team, but if they lose to Florida and Auburn, you can kiss the SEC Title game good bye.
An honest evaluation: I think South Carolina is a little bit better than us. They’re certainly capable of choking, but I just don’t see that happening with their schedule. Dawgs have some good young play-makers, and they can get into a decent bowl game this year( Outback or Chick-fil-A), but they’re just not an elite team. Neither UGA or South Carolina are in LSU’s or Alabama’s league. The SEC East is like a subdivision of the ACC: just a bunch of mediocre teams.

Plus, ya boy Crowell can’t take the beating the LSU would hand out…Tennesse almost made him quit…LSU 41 UGA 14…stick to beating Coastal Carolina and Ole Miss and leave the heavy lifting in the SEC to those who don’t choke in the spotlight…

The BCS Computers as of today have UGA finishing 31st. That number will shall drop as they beat Vandy, but the games against Florida with Brantley back and Auburn will be major indicators of how UGA finishes. No that is an opinion. Richt beat UT in 2001, they finished 11-1. They drop kicked two talented LSU teams in 2004 and 2005. During Richt’s good years( 2002-2005), Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss were as good if not better than they are now. In fact if anything you can make an argument that the SEC overall was stronger then than it is now. Richt lost to eventual National Champion is LSU in 2003 and a 14-0 Auburn team in 2004. The Dawgs played anything but cream puff schedules back then, and to state otherwise is revisionist thinking.
P.S.The Dawgs of the early 80’s would have beaten all of those Bear Bryant teams in 80, 81, and 82. Those teams had great NFL talent beyond Herschel Walker.

Once again, they are only favored due to their cream puff schedule. Besides the 1st 2 games of the season (which they LOST) – UGA has played no one. And look at the remainder of the schedule – Vandy (yuke), NMS, KY Jelly team, Auburn (yea – got beat by an ACC team), and Florida – which is just a shadow of its former self. IF UGA can’t win these games then CMR SHOULD BE FIRED. In a way I hope UGA does win the East – that way AL or LSU will EMBARRASS UGA on National TV.
Have fun little doggies – because either way – your team can’t beat a top 20 team.

I like coach richt. I think he is a good coach all programs go threw up and downs, our defensive staff is showing great strides. The team that i see is improving every game and they want to win and it’s a team first mentality. Richt is changing the way things are done cause you have seen players leave some known for bad attitudes but not all of them, things do not change over night but things are changing for the better. Uga is not at the level of a bama or lsu right now but not many teams are but I think coach richt will change things around and get back to winning.

I am glad that we now know that Any team( LSU and Alabama) are required to get permission from UGA before they can be good unless it is UGA’s turn. This according to ” SEC fan”. The last time anyone checked there have been 5 straight BCS winners from the SEC and they all must have been on the rotation system and recieved that phone call from UGA to win the title. What happened 7 years ago or so when UGA won the SEC and they were not in the BCS title game? Did the other conferences not get the memo and win too many games to keep UGA out of the title game?
The next time UGA is primed to play for a national title, please try very hard not to get blown out by Tennessee.

Many teams would have easily gone 10-2 with Georgia’s 2011 schedule. Unfortunately, Georgia isn’t one of them.

King Tony must be a tech fan! What has tech done other than struggle with unranked teams as well! Ga was beat by a very respectful Boise State! We gave SC the second game and have been rolling ever since! Tech hasn’t play a worthy team yet except for maybe UNC and half of their players were either kick off the team or suspend! Look if you don’t like UGA then that is fine! GO TO THE GA TECH SITE!!!!!! Go Dawgs!

I realy don’t believe the Dogs will win the East, After watching this team for the last several seasons I just don’t have confidence in this program, The defense has certainly improved, The offense still lacks something that is hard to put into words, lack of Confidence maybe or as some insist the problem lies with Mike Bobo’s play calling, What ever the problem, I don’t think it is a lack of talent, Richt has recruited enough 4 and 5 star players, Almost as many as Ala or LSU, But they are a long way from playing on the same level as those teams, I think the Fla game will tell us a lot about this team and Richts’ future, A loss to Fla will be devastating to this program.

If UGA is up for the game, UGA wins easily. Why? Vandy cant score on our defense and our offense is much better then their offense. No turnovers and UGA should win 24-9. Go Dawgs!

No. 4 Carver used a huge game from tailback Marquez Holloway and a rugged defense to knock off Callaway, 28-14, Thursday night in a matchup of the region’s last two unbeaten teams.
Holloway finished with 296 yards on 21 carries, while the Tigers’ defense limited the Cavaliers to only 23 yards of total offense.
Some people said Holloway might be as good as Crowell….interesting to see where he ends up in college….

All this talk about UGA winning the East and being “back” will come to an end just as soon as UGA loses their next game. It won’t be this week against Vandy, but UGA will lose to either Auburn or Florida or both.
It happens every year. UGA fans get all excited about “this year’s team.” Then they want to slit their wrists after a couple of loses…then they get punch drunk on Kool-Aid after a few nothing wins, then lose another game or two and it starts all over until spring practice.
Same story…2011 edition.

“I think the Fla game will tell us a lot about this team and Richts’ future, A loss to Fla will be devastating to this program.”
Why would you say that. They lose to Florida every year. If you want to know about Mark Richt’s future, you should ask Mark Richt. He’ll quit this gravy train job when he gets good and ready. Georgia is afraid to fire him, because they don’t believe a good coach would accept the job. They may be right…

UGA is more ikely to lose to Vandy than win the East. Vandy coach is fired up, Vandy is undefeated at home, UGA is over confident, CMR will certainly get out coached this game (and Fla and Auburn). Better be careful, doggies!

Murry is incapable of putting the team on his back with 2 minutes to go and driving the length of the field for the win. He is not a big time sec quarterback. CMR threw that guy off the team last year.

It’s amazing what we have come to accept. I do hope we win the east and some how beat LSU or Bama but I still have feel like based off the last couple years……..Murry will do something to cost us the game against Fla or AU…….he just can’t beat teams in the sec with winning records……really hope he proves me wrong…..folks if we can’t beat Fl this year then we need a new head coach!

For some reason we’re leaving Flawduh out of the equation. They could be “prohibitive favorites” too. They have: Awbun, Ga, Vandy, and SC. While SC has Ms St, Tn, Ar, and Fl. Looks like Fl vs SC and Fl vs Ga are pivotal in the east. Just sayin’, don’t leave Flawduh out just yet.
ThomasBrown, I see you posted your usual negativity (nay flogging) even at the Chat TimesFreePress; but under “Idurham”. I invite you to forsake the Bulldogs and go over to LSU or Ala as a “fan”, since they are such perfect programs with perfect QBs and coaches.

The most likely outcome is for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina to all end the season with 3 SEC losses. In that case, Florida will probably represent the East in the SECCG.
Probable SEC Losses:
Florida – Bama, LSU & Auburn
Georgia – SC, Florida & Auburn
South Carolina – Auburn, Arky & Florida

all this nonsense will come to a screeching halt when the dawgs get beat by the Gaytors once again and hopefully put the nail in the coffin for richt’s career at uga.
it would be very SMART if mcgarity starts the process asap for KIRBY to become the new head coach.

IF McGarity makes a change, and right now that’s a big IF, I’m not sure Kirby Smart would be his first choice.
I think he would go after a proven coach, with head coaching experience.
Someone like Chris Petersen perhaps, or at least someone with whom he has past personal knowledge and experience.
I may be wrong, but I don’t see him bringing in an unproven whose defensive minded.

Quit complaining about Murry…..Georgia….not beating a ranked team….win at vandy…..a win vs UF….and still probably no winning team….What goes there. I think there are 85 other scholorshipped players that are also in that deal….Who else behind the center the last year and a half would have done any better? If UF has a losing record when we beat them are you still going to complain? Good Greaf!!!!!!!

101 wins in 11 years! who is a better solution? u get what u wish 4! there is not alot of choices out there that r the answer to this excellence that the bulldawg nation seeks! get over yoyur selves and realize that a team that averages 9.5 wins a season is doing well in the grand scheme of things! think of all the programs that CAN NOT do that year in year out! A couple of subpar seasons i believe even DOOLEY had, actually he did have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HALL OF FAME!
